  • (Note: the day after this video was shot Ron came up with the idea of just taking the mechanical fuel pump out of the picture and putting in a fuel pressure regulator for the Dupree electric fuel pump setting it to spec of 3 psi it runs and Idles and revs up perfectly)
It has now been one year since I bought this 1952 dodge for parts truck. It does have the original odometer reading of 22,917 miles on it. The Army did not sell this as a running driving truck it was sold as a parts truck. Sold as is where is for parts so it stands to reason it has a multitude of problems the ARMY didn't want to waste their time on. Not economically feasible I think the words were.
All original parts now only the coil has been changed wiring has been gone though gauges all work original generator charges builds up 50 psi oil pressure. Now we start this again the float needle having been changed but there is a break in the videos 2nd time running without the electric fuel pump only the original mechanical one 6 hrs to change the coil out and get the distributor realigned to top dead center. I cut off the exhaust then re installed it since no trouble with back pressure noted. In other words Many Many hours of work. I did have to buy a drive shaft this one was missing. but it will run and drive. Not to mention replacing the upholstery interior seats replaced, electrical work, Fuel line , oil pressure gauge, Brakes and master cylinder and still lots more work to be done. new Tank, Benches and side boards to be rebuilt pull out broken windshield and replace and of course paint. Another year worth of work.

Larry I would use the electric fuel pump and install a good pressure regulator with a gauge.

Yes already ordered the fuel pressure regulator and we will test it both ways. May crank down the fuel pressure and try again. We will get it right.

Does it rev above idle Larry? It sounds like it's not transitioning from idle to the main jet. Accelerator pump not working or something. Why it the timing set to TDC, shouldn't it be set before TDC? I can't tell what is happening from the video, I'm just musing 😊

Exactly timing is set correctly and it does idle and the carburetors have been gone through exhaustively. It does idle and I can accelerate. Because of the video cameras proximity to the engine the video camera does shut out some sound. It has taken hours and hours over the last year to get this engine running the way it should. Thanks for watching.

To me it sound pretty good Larry and Ron. Do you still have the exhaust off? Thnaks for the update, Slim.

The muffler I put back on but it does have a couple holes in the muffler. So that's why it's not real quiet but it runs

How smoothly are these engines supposed to run Larry? Hard to tell from the audio

Pretty much like it's running now. Just needs a little bit of adjusting. Doing to get a gas regulator so I can cut in the electric fuel pump when needed.
