Them little turbo Sonics are cute
if you tune it and get the gtx turbo that little sonic can put down 240whp and almost 300torque not bad for a little 1,4L.

I installed one on my 1.8L Cruze and the only difference I noticed was a lot more intake noise. I took it off and put the factory intake back on since it sucks air in from behind the bumper on the 1.8.
Yep K&N loves guys like yourself, they really cash in on your hope of tiny HP numbers. The air filter are ok because I know they can flow more air easier but that’s really the most advantage I think a person will get from anything K&N sells.
Ya definitely overpriced for what it is. I wasn’t after hp numbers anyway. Just wanted that turbo sound lol.
Who cares what the gains are, most people know the small gain going in. It does 3 things, hp gain, sound and looks, what's the problem 🤔🙄

GM performance CAI DEFINITELY the nicest looking. Seen one on a SS Camaro around 2013 or later it was blk in colour.
Engine light finally went out for good with the air air straightener as it sits it will do. Ps if your pipe has a larger ID , then a rubber gasket the right size from and oil filter will work , I have photos anyone wants to see. Or I went to an hydraulics place to get a seal I think more like/ possibly neoprene with a graduated wedge on one side. USE crazy glue to mount seal to straighter then whole thing to end of pipe. My pipe ID is 2 . 7/8. Larger then K&N .
Discovery.... For the Sonics K&N is the only one to supply a glue in air deflector directional part that certainly does NOT have the honeycomb look mess. More like 2 v flaps that mount vertically in respect to the horizontal position of the mass sensor.....so if this part is what I need, if the ID: of the K&N pipe is the same as my similar looking GM PERFORMANCE pipe I will order theres.

The funny thing is... the stock air box is definitely pulling cooler air than this stupid thing. If you notice, the stock box has a port sucking from the inner fender area. LOL

Hi all I'm in the process of replacing the turbo on my 2013 Sonic maybe with a high flow turbo I'm researching at the moment and adding a shot ram intake I want the sound as well. The sound of your Sonic is way cool.
Sound mostly too but if it gave up gains it's a bonus. Sick can't get aftermarket because of warranty

Ya it’s my car. It still has low mileage so I haven’t had any issues yet. All the leather is still like new. Do you live in a hot climate? Hot weather can speed up the leather deterioration under normal use. We’re in Canada so we get some pretty cold winters.

Well finally installed my super expensive GM Performance $774 cdn CAI. Is it worth this much NO WAY. Is it worth 400 like others systems maybe. IT IS THE EASIEST TO INSTALL , it uses only the 2 stock inner fender mounts to install nearly a full box. Not headlight or engine mounts or brackets of any kind. Best looking as said but ONLY K&N comes with the air straightener/air flow part. Don't know how to post photos on here sorry. Apon General Manager at dealership suggest I did not get it calibrated to my 2017 SONIC RS / LT TURBO. So not getting any if any performance gains. But BUT the sound is so so much better. Instead of bees buzzing in a can sound it's more inline with guys and there high tech 4 cylinder turbo and there blow off valves. Exhaust and blow off sounds awesome loud. Sorry don't know how to post sound videos either. Very impressed with sound. There are one or 2 other guys on U TUBE with sounds. But no comparison to actual sound. Nothing esle done to perfomance yet til lease is over.
QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS. HELP REQUIRED. okay to correct something. Yes I can hear very much quite loud the sound of the turbo as if I had a blow off valve. Yesterday to windy noisey to hear it. Sounds great and exhaust sounds. So looks great sounds great. No performance gains because dealership manager and service manager suggested not to recalibrate it because it was not listed for my yr of Turbo Sonic. Now I just noticed today and it could have been and do bel6it showed up yesterday sometime after installed that the outline of an engine is showing. Funny too it went away after car was turned off for about haft hour. Then came back on after 5 klms or so. Now I don't believe there is actually a problem. What do you think folks. Is this outline engine symbol on because my CAI has not been recalibrated or because of something esle. And can and how do I turn the light off permanently. I know disconnecting battery will do it but only for a while, til any problem is fixed. So I am also reading about if all these makers of aftermarket CAI don't come with this like factory honeycomb CAI air straightener pieces or like K&N have , is it the likely reason our check engine light comes on. Hope that is what my problem is. Sucks but not too expensive. Ebay aluminum ones that fit snug they say. But they also say they can be glued in etc. Hope they fit tight enough not to deal with gluing mess. More work to buy plastic stock like and cut it down etc.

Sounds GREAT! I do like these little cars. Think the are pretty cool. Would love to hear it while driving. I do agree with you though, the kit seems a bit overpriced for what you got.
Mostly issues like having to install the air flow guide and even how big the gap is around the filter entrance. The way that bracket comes apart could be annoying in the future too.
My guess on why you had to glue the part in yourself is that they designed and manufactured the part first, realized they needed to guide the airflow, and then added that part and new instructions rather than redoing manufacturing.
In the end though, it is definitely more quality than a lot of kits. At least it comes with the heat shield too. Cool video though and good luck with the channel!
Thanks a lot man! I agree that’s probably why the air guide needs to be glued. I’m hoping to do a follow up video in a little while to show the long term quality of the kit. Then I’ll do some in car shots.

A $50 green filter will give you a similar sound benefit
Am I the only one of the GM PERFORMANCE CAI on 2017 to 2019 body style. These from GM are only listed to fit on last body style which was sure 2016. But all fit perfectly.
Thats because nobody wants to pay 500$ for an Intake when everywhere else is half the price.
Spectre sells a short ram intake for 180 and is easier to install and Jesus I love the sound my Cruze makes
Good price for sure. Their site doesn’t offer one for the Sonic specifically. Wonder if there would be a way to make it fit. Definitely improves the sound 👌🏻
I wonder if this will fit on my 2018? it would seem compatible, only concern would be the bolt locations methinks.
Hard to say without comparing the 2 cars. K&N has up to 2017 on their website. Not sure what changes there were (if any) to the engine between 2017 and 2018. It’s a pretty basic setup so would think it wouldn’t take much to make it work.

Nope, nothing yet.
Appears Engine light is out and on at no particular time. So installing the straighter but $3.99 usd from Mazda specialist shop in USA. Shipping alot lower too. AEM sells straighteners too so likely one with there CAI kit. I read on U TUBE a car will reset / recalibate after 50 miles or so....But a K&N air straightener deflector fits 2.59 inch ID pipe. My GM pipe measured close to 2.78. I ordered 2 of the parts just in case. $7.09 usd. I will see if I can modify them to fit my bigger ID. Maybe a flat o ring or round o ring ???? Or stiff rubber strips sticky on both sides . Sure I can find something. Hope it gets rid of my engine light. Or will I end up needing that recalibration. Question GM built this or offers this for Sonics. They didn't have engine lights come on in testing . Why not ??? Ps the design of the K&N AIR STRAIGHTENER / FLOW system is BETTER MORE EFFECTIVE then the honeycomb design. Look up HIGH BETA FLOW CONDITIONER video or CS power series intake system video. Those are the basic same design as K&N use. Think about it you would loose air pressure or if it was water water pressure if you trying to push it threw a screen. The flow slows down behind the honeycomb design. While K&N , CS and HIGH BETA FLOW CONDITIONER let flow and pressure remain high yet still direct it straight.

Haven’t run the scanner on it yet. Definitely the next step in diagnosing the problem.

It’s been pretty good for driving to work and back. A lot more fun than the old SX4. I’ve had a couple occasions where it grinds into 2nd gear at higher rpm. I’m going to have to look into it further before I can determine the problem. Other than that, it’s great. And I love the added blow off sound now. Only thing I’m thinking of doing yet is a trifecta tune. And I’ll have to find wheels for winter yet too.

Dumb question but how does this filter draw air into the turbo? I am asking since it doesn't connect underneath like the old air box does where the air comes in from outside of the car.
Read a little on how a turbo works. Exhaust gasses spin the turbine and the other turbine compresses air from????? You got it, the air filter.
You’re right, the new cone filter doesn’t attach. But I left the factory air tube installed that would have drawn air into the factory box. Only now it directs it towards the cone filter instead.
It pulls hot engine bay air into the cone filter because it's stupid that's how. Save your money. You want HP numbers? Buy a tune and turn up the boost, remove the Cat and restrictive exhaust (make sure you run a resonator and a high flow muffler like a magnaflow because if you dont... it will sound like garbage half way up the Rev range)

Nice man! We’re in Manitoba. Ya warranty is a tricky thing to mess with. Luckily I don’t have much left on mine anyway lol. With trifecta and bnr they basically send you the calibration software and an obd2 to USB cable. Then you just plug your laptop into the car and let it do it’s thing. I’m sure GM would hate that tho lol
So here is the scoop. General Manager at my GM dealer said he could get the things for free to do a ECU recalibration for the GM PERFORMANCE extremely expensive CAI $774 cdn. Honestly I think it is the best looking one well filter box wise anyways. He suggest even though from his findings that the engines are the same from a 2015 to my 2017 but because it was not actually listed for my year he suggested to be on the side of caution just install it but do not do the ECU recalibration. He thought based on what GM told him chances of have a bad effect recalibrated or not is not likely but to again air on the side of caution with no recalibration. Me installing it and no recalibration would not void my lease warranty he said. What do you think of all that ???? I noticed your K&N did not get a ECU recalibration. And believe watching the ZZP they did not do that either ???? DDM's CAI kit says no need for recalibration etc. I mean these CAI kits / systems for Sonic's all contain the same kind (not style) of parts. I most want the look and sound. Hp gains would of course be a bonus.
Ya they’re all the same concept, a pipe with a filter on the end. I know dealers love to be on the side of caution, that way if anything goes wrong, they aren’t liable. In my opinion, a recalibration isn’t necessary for just bolting it on and driving. As a rule on turbo cars, you need a tune if you’re planning on adding more bolt ons and actually wanting them to work efficiently ie) power gains, fuel mileage, etc. I will be getting a tune in the future to ensure I’m getting the most out of my 1.4, bit it’s not mandatory.

Do u think this cold air intake will fit onto a buick encore with the same engine?
It would be a risk. Most of the time an intake like this is designed for a specific vehicle. Though the engine may be the same, different parts on the the engine could be mounted differently, and space in the engine bay would be different. I’d do a lot of research before trying it.

Didn’t notice any difference in fuel economy. They claim better fuel economy and power increase, but I was just in it for the sound.

But but got ind ordered sitting at GM dealer but unless I can find out SOMEHOW from SOMEONE that my ECU on my 2017 can be recalibrated then they are reluctant to sell it too me because with out recalibration they say it could void my GM warranty. So far I can not find anyone who knows and or anyway to find out the manuafacture of it is to contact them. So far they are only listed for 2012-2015 the first problem they see more then I do. God i hope someone can help me and i will take care of that person. 😉👍
Ya man, I dunno about any actual performance gains.. but sure sounds good. As for an ecu calibration, it shouldn’t be necessary if there’s no gains, but I know trifecta tuning can tune them, also a company called bnr. Might be worth contacting them.
