I’m an old dude who’s been riding and racing in multiple brands of boots for over 30yrs. That being said, the Gaerne SG10’s were by far my favorite boots when it came to fit, protection, and longevity. I have wider feet than some and the multiple pairs of Alpinestars I’ve owned always seemed too narrow for me. Even after being broken in. My SG10’s lasted me over twice as long as any other boot I’ve ever owned. They break in but they don’t break down. I’ve also torture tested them by wadding hard on many occasions so I can attest to their protection. I was concerned when Gaerne released the SG12’s that the changes to the new version may have diminished what I have grown to love in the SG10. Thankfully, this was not the case and the changes made to the SG12’s only improved on what was already a great boot.
Recently my situation dictated that I purchase a second pair of riding boots and because top-tier equipment is not inexpensive I did a lot of research and tried on the best offerings from the most popular manufacturers over the past few weeks to see if I might prefer something different… I just ordered my second pair of SG12’s last night.

To be honest I thought I made a mistake when I bought my first pair of Gaerne SG-12s, the break-in was a little rough but now I feel they are one of the best boots I have ever owned.

One downfall about my gaerne’s is if you have pretty small calves like me, and bigger feet. Your gonna have a pretty big gap on the top of the boot, which will make less tightness around the ankle, even with knee pads.

Brother great review, SG12s Italian made 100 less than Chinese made designed in Italy, don’t like ankle brace, still not convinced with the amount of leg and foot injuries in APStars boots, Herlings twice in 2 years an example, other pros wear em because they are sponsored, I trust G and long lasting is unbeatable.

Tech 10's are made in Europe as well, Croatia to be specific which isn't too far from Italy. The rest of the Tech series boots are made in Thailand. As far as injuries in tech 10's when 90% of the racers are wearing that boot of course they're going to have the most injuries.

Get the SG-12's. The more you wear them the comfier they get having memory foam inside them and the flat soul is awesome. having flat soul mud doesn't stick to them as easy. Best thing though is you wont be disappointed or wishing you bought a different pair. You will always be saying 'They are good enough for me'.

lets be real- if you contact Alpinestar about a sole replacement and even offer to pay theyll tell you to order a new pair. They do not replace the soles. I tried to replace mine but took their advice and ordered the SG12s. Solid boot, over 2 years of hard enduro abuse and theyre still in great shape, only parts I replace were the metal toe covers. Plus the SG12s have hard plastic covering the whole front top part and sides of the foot, ive have guys spin their rear tires rolling down boulder on to my foot n bounce right off

Tech 10's offer incredible support due to being stiff and that stiffness is engineered to absorb impacts much like a ski boot while still having superior feel on the pegs. They also provide a more fine tuned fit around the ankle that really gives you the feeling of being totally locked into the boot. They also offer better impact protection at the sole and heel for when you case a jump. All these things add up to a feeling that increases confidence on the bike.

Just went to SG12 from Tech10. TCommentary here is spot on - I've used Tech10 for 2 years, the inside sole of the right boot gets eaten away if you are kickstarting. The stitching at the top inside wears through from gripping the bike. The boots are really durable and long lasting, otherwise. Very little peg/brake feel in the Tech 10. Looking forward to testing out the SG12s.
