Hey guys! I'm Alexandra Gater and I show you how to do rental-friendly upgrades and DIY projects on a budget. Welcome to my new series, Making Over My Childhood Home, where I make over my parent's outdated home in Canada. In today's episode, I'm making over the entryway. There will be a new episode every Saturday in May. In the last episode, I'm revealing the whole makeover to my parents who are flying from England to see it!

The entryway looks so much brighter with that partial wall down, and I love the inset shelf. My only question is can the front door actually
open all the way in? It looks as if it is going to smack right into that peg rail since it was hung so close to the door? I ask because the freshly painted door will get damaged as will the pegs and it will limit how far the door can be opened when moving things in and out.

Amazing use of such a narrow space! As someone who needs to use the handrail, I am hoping it is just the camera angle that makes it look like it doesn't come down far enough to grab from the bottom step.

Everything turned out just beautiful 🤩. Warm family, warm house. May I suggest something? Don't forget a doorstop behind your front door so it won't bang against the wooden pegs. Alexandra you're one of the best!!!! Thank you for your great videos👍

This is such a good transformation. Can't wait to see more. I know it's too late but the peg rail is too long. It should have gone from door to end of partition wall. Perhaps 10 pegs. If you fill this with so many coats, purses etc. it's going to look cluttered and messy.

The coat hang pegs next to the door would smash into the door glass panes; I think it should have started at the open end of the door when fully open.

Looks so bright and cheerful!! That arch is sooo cool. It helps open up the narrow entrance a lot! And the outlet to charge the phones, so functional and convenient! I would place a narrow, low rectangular basket next to the outlet and place a beautiful patterned (and pink) textile folded on top to disguise the technology, making that space another decorative moment!

Oh gosh love that your dad took that entry wall down and then took it up to the ceiling, that archway is perfect and it really opened that space up and made it much more useful. Love that runner going up the stairs and that beautiful pink door is also gorgeous. Also like that you took that fireplace out. Oh I am so excited to see part 2 of this makeover. That cabinet that you got for the entryway is so beautiful. I really love all of the inspiration that you give me to get started on my livingroom makeover. Thanks again Alexandra and of course Graham, you are so amazing. Have a blessed weekend and then week and I will really look forward to the next video, sending love and hugs, bye! 😂🤗😻👏🙌👍💜💜💜

Many people don't get that privilege of kind and loving people being their parents. And as usual love the video. Keeps getting better from day 1! And Graham is a god send and so skilled and talented; adore you Graham😊. I've watched all your videos so many times and you have taught me so much.

I would have put a floor to ceiling open bookcase where the wall is.. used wicker baskets on the bottom shelf for shoes which just looks like pretty storage ..then I would take some shelves out..put a wood back with a big painting on it on living room side and hooks for coats on front door side. Etc
But great.. you must be exciting your parents are moving back to Canada.
