  • The SsangYong Rexton Ultimate is the features-packed top-spec version of the two-pronged Rexton range that’s easily one of the plushest ute-based four-wheel-drive SUVs on the road.It’s also the most affordable range-topper in its class with a relatively low fixed drive-away price of $54,990, which is several thousand dollars less than rivals such as the Pajero Sport Exceed, Isuzu MU-X LS-T and Toyota Fortuner Crusade. And it’s about $20-grand less than the Ford Everest Titanium.If you’re looking for something to haul your growing family everywhere from school to a camping holiday in comfort, this seems to represent a great bargain. But, as David Bonnici finds, there are a few things you need to know.

    Having owned an ELX for a year now, I can’t be happier. I used to drive Lexus NX but I like the Rexton better overall. Refined and quiet diesel engine, buttery smooth transmission keep the cabin very serene. Far more upscale inside out than all the other ute-based 4x4s. I don’t understand why the Prado has to cost twice as much after driving this amazing Ssangyong.

    This car is quiet, very very quiet. The NVH work, as well as the styling interior and exterior, was done by Pininfarina in Italy. That’s why the Rexton looks so much better than past Ssangyongs, because an Italian designed it! They are THE experts in NVH. At 80km/h the Rexton inside is 57 decibels. That’s BMW 7 series territory to put it in perspective. The Land River Discovery 4 is 64 decibels. My mate has a LR4 and it is definitely not as quiet as the Rexton.

      @@davidmurray5926 Dave - I bought one 5 months ago, white ultimate with the 18 inch rims and it’s fantastic, I love it. It’s so well built, the quality of how it fits together is very impressive and it’s so smooth and quiet. My wife also loves it now she has got used to it’s height, as you sit tall. The kids love the rear heated seats and the recline, and the window view (no window pillar, the only one to not have it). No faults so far. If you walk past the car to auto unlock it and then stand near the rear boot, it will open up after beeping, so you don’t have to put your shopping down. The front headrest have 3 adjustments, backwards and forwards. You can mute the welcome and goodbye chimes. A lot of adjustment through the menu screen. The auto high beam is very smart, no mistakes so far. Anyway, good luck, very safe buy imo.

    What 7 seat 4x4 has a lot of 3rd row room? Not many.... so that wouldnt be a major factor in my decision. Particularly if comparing to the Pajero Sport etc. They're all much of a muchness. If you need a lot of 3rd row room best off getting a Patrol or Landcruiser.
    But in terms of value this thing is quality. I couldn't justify paying another 10-20K for a Pajero Sport Exceed or Prado.
    Rexton owners seem very happy with theirs. 7 years unlimited kilometre warranty is also great.
    Extra bonus is that it's Korean and not made in China.

    The ride that all reviewers seem to complain about is because of those 20inch rims that have tyres with a recommended pressure of 42psi. I drove an Ultimate and it was a bit harsh over bumps and then drove the ELX with 18inch rims and tyres with a recommended pressure of 34psi. Night and day - the 18inch rims and tyres give the car the compliance over bumps that the car deserves. Ultimates are sold in other countries like the UK with the 18inch rims so come one Australia Ssangyong - ditch these silly 20inch rims. It’s like a football player being dressed in high heels trying to compete with other players dressed in footy boots.

    Owning an Ultimate 2020 model, love driving it super quiet and smooth. If you get the Ironman upgraded suspension it does ride better. Off road it is as capable as a Pajero/Prado/Everest with a better towing capacity. For their price the are a great vehicle.

      @@matthewdenham1949 Yes and comparing it to stock it’s much firmer and controlled. We also have a Bullbar, winch driving lights so the heavy duty front coils. The rear we also added airbag man airbags as the Ironman kit isn’t the strongest rear coil for heavy weights 250kg. The engine is Euro 6 compliant, unlike all other competitors that are still Euro5, and that includes the latest MU-X. So it spits out 67% less NOx and that is a big deal, especially for parents who idles in school car parks waiting to pick up their kids.

    I test drove an Ultimate this weekend and was very impressed with how quiet and smooth it is, even on UK roads which can be very bad. The . The down side is no spare tyre which is probably due to the adblue resevior sitting where the spare would be. in the UK It only comes with 7 seats which is a waste of storage space. On the 2017 onwards model here in the UK, if you had a towbar fitted the spare wheel had to be located inside the car again taking up boot space - kind of odd when most (and there are many) Rextons in the UK are used for caravan towing.
    would i buy one - yes, when the company finishes it financial restructuring

      @@kyferbushejones hi, thats interesting to know. I will push the dealer on this. Our friends had a towbar fitted to thier 2018 and the metal work prevents the tyre from fitting underneith, plus the 2021 model as the adblue reservior slung under there aswell. As we tow a caravan a full size spare is essential.

      @@kyferbushejones Hi, a ssangyong dealer as confirmed that fitting of a spare wheel is not possible due to the location of the adblue tank....its ironic that a car built to tow large loads and go off road relies on a puncture kit. they have also removed some kit from the UK spec such as adaptive cruise control, wireless charging and memory seats...i guess to keep the car below a retail price of £40k or we have to pay around £400 a year road tax upto 6 years old.

      Ssangyong has traditionally made strong automobiles since 1954. As a company that has grown on the basis of Japanese technology, its reliability is considerable despite its small scale.

  • @cy6377
    @cy6377 Год назад

    Honestly it's a solid bargain given its price within that segment which typically costs more than 60k as base price for most 🤔 I mean how many of hours do you actually spend driving a car in a day unless your constantly driving on job which then a company would normally provide its own car to supplement. Car at the end of the day is a consumable and personally I'd chase a bargain. Definitely one of the vehicle my list.
