I made a similar booklet on A4 printer paper a couple of months back, & on showing our neighbours’ son he then made & decorated with tape littbooklets for myself with numbered pages & a huge “V” on mine, “P”, on my husbands, & 2 with “S” on ( for his parents, he made dad pay him a small sum too), & one for himself! So, we’re spreading the joy! Booklets forever!
That was such a surprise. The art on the big sheet of paper looked a bit like a dog‘s breakfast, but once it was folded, the individual images were lovely! I have a talent for making big art with no redeeming features. Normally I cut them up into sweet little bookmarks. But this is so much more rewarding. Thank you, because I have way too many bookmarks! 🥸
I bought one of these at a sale. I can’t remember where, but I absolutely love it. These are Great to journal in or put a picture book together, little cookbook, phone numbers in to do list, prayer book. Absolutely a beautiful way to spread your love around for the crafty people in your world. I was thinking about putting some together with a few pens a good pencils and erasers in a little bag for gifts. Seriously everyone would love that. My grand kids have a little book to write in so I was going to make them one and leave it blank so their art could be put in in then we could keep the art work forever…name and date it and put it on their shelf. 🙌🏻🙌🏻❤️
Wonderful tutorial, thank you. Looks like a great idea for repurposing watercolor practice sheets. Might use them for writing little poems or favorite quotes in.
I gave it a try with the dull side of a bakery box and am delighted with the results. I had difficulty thinking of designs, but hope I will become more creative
I love this idea Helen. You’ve inspired me to make one from an A3 sheet of cartridge paper. It’s turned out so cute. I’m going to take it with me on my walks for impromptu sketches. Thank you for sharing.
I can’t tell you how much I love this little book Helen. You’re right - it looks so tactile. And such fun seeing different sections of the piece on each little page as you flip through!
What a lovely experiment,it turned out great,I really like it. Thanks for the end demo on the thinner paper,it became much clearer for the folding and glueing😅.
These are my favorite "happy projects" whenever I find myself in a rut. It doesn't matter how many I do, they never fail to astound me. This one is gorgeous! Please do make more!
I do make mine with the thicker paper though. It feels so tactile and comforting. I am trying a few different ways to cut and assemble the folds so it doesn't get weird when turning the corners. My methods are dubious at best😂!
This is wonderful! It would be so helpful to have a sketchbook or even a journal with background already made. It would also be a nice exercise to play with a limited color palette! Thank you so much for sharing! 💕
How fun! I've seen that fold and cut for sketchbooks but what a lovely way to play and create. I can imagine writing some of your favorite quotes on each spread and giving it as a gift.
I’ve wanted to create some of these for a while but laziness prevailed. Now I am truly inspired! I also appreciate your extra tutorial at the end. Thank you so much!
I think if you fold and tuck what you wrote “font over” on in behind the “back cover” you would have a self-sealing/binding book. I think…! Your abstracts came out so good!
Thanks for sharing your organic and honest process of your abstract art book. I'm thinking pale watercolors would allow for notes to be taken, or quotes written. I especially am thankful that your voice is low and warm. Although I find music distracting, I manage to mute it then unfortunately miss some of what you say.
Love this video. One question, wouldn't the book work fine if you don't glue the pages? I think it would make it a nice puzzle artwork...but maybe I'm completely wrong😂 I'm going to try it
Thank you, yes - it's a heavier weight, quite smooth paper, that's usually better suited to dry media (it's not as good with liquids as watercolour paper).
The one I have is called an Scotch ATG (Advanced Tape Glider). I'm not sure if they still make this one. You could also search under 'tape runner' for possibly something similar.
@@helencryer Not really, no. Ok, the donkey part, maybe (I feel sorry for the donkey 🤣); but you’re not one to say brill. At least you don’t come across as one 😂.
Aren't you asleep yet?! Hmmm... I definitely use brilliant a lot in real life, maybe brill less so. I've been a bit traumatised today, finding out I need glasses for the first time ever, so maybe I was just in shock...

Fabulous creation. Thank you. For sharing….😊
Thanks ever so much!
Love this idea. And maybe write some personal messages och inspirational quotes om each page and give to a friend ❤
Yes, they'd be ideal for that!

😂 Most my art looks like a dog's breakfast at some point (and sometimes still at the end!) Hurray for no more book marks!
That was great. Thank you. Love it. ❤️

I absolutely love these ideas - thank you!!
I don’t think it needs a thing. I too was surprised how great the pages looked. Much better than the full sheet. Love it.
Thank you!!
Oh that’s cool! I have enjoyed seeing your abstract art book! Thanks for sharing this! 🥰
Thank you!

Oh that's lovely!!
Gorgeous artwork! This little book turned out beautifully! Thanks for doing it again more slowly with the plain sheet of paper. So helpful! 😊
Thanks so much!

What fun! Going to have a play this evening. I’m so inamorata of your work, your content is so diverse. Thanks!
Thanks - that's so kind!

Fun idea!

Who's a clever artist , then ???? Always learn a lot from your videos , Helen , Many , many thanks to you , Mike in Exeter xx
I think that's debatable!! Thanks Mike!
This is so good, such a gorgeous tutorial ☺☺
Thanks ever so much!
Your abstracts are lovely!
Not too bad once divided up!
I’ve wanted to create some of these for a while but laziness prevailed. Now I am truly inspired! I also appreciate your extra tutorial at the end. Thank you so much!

This is beautiful Helen! You are a very good teacher. 😁🍏🍎
Hello Panda!!!! Thanks! We need to meet up!

I especially am thankful that your voice is low and warm. Although I find music distracting, I manage to mute it then unfortunately miss some of what you say.
Thank you!! Sorry you don't like the music!
Great little book! 👏🏼
Thanks!
It’s really pretty and a lovely idea x
Thanks!
Definitely going to have a go at this! I’m considering posting some videos myself soon. But imposter procrastination is stopping me 😬
Go for it! I'm not sure the imposter syndrome wears off though - I definitely have it!
@@helencryer my first post is up. I’ll be trying to do a video soon!
I absolutely agree, it came out wonderful. Wasn't sure how it would turn out but at the end, I was pleasantly surprised. Nice work!
Thanks!
Love this video. One question, wouldn't the book work fine if you don't glue the pages? I think it would make it a nice puzzle artwork...but maybe I'm completely wrong😂 I'm going to try it
Thanks! I felt like the structure kind of flopped about a bit before I glued it, but definitely no harm in trying!
I love it! So cute. ❤ I will be trying this!
How big is the paper?
A bit bigger than A3 sized. I can't tell you exactly, sorry.
Forgive me but what is cartridge paper?
Heavyweight drawing paper
Thank you, yes - it's a heavier weight, quite smooth paper, that's usually better suited to dry media (it's not as good with liquids as watercolour paper).
Thank you
Hi, could you tell me what to look for to find such a „glue machine”? :) how is it called?
The one I have is called an Scotch ATG (Advanced Tape Glider). I'm not sure if they still make this one. You could also search under 'tape runner' for possibly something similar.
@@helencryer ok, i will check thanks! I thought it is like a hot glue machine 😅🤔
This looks like a fun project. Thank you for sharing it!😊I love how it came out. So did you mean that you don’t need to paint the back of the paper?
Thanks! I had a great time with it!
Yes - the back doesn't need painting - just the front and back covers will need something.
@@helencryerThank you!
7:34 Cool device! Is the tape acid-free?
I've had it for donkeys years and it's brill! Yes, the tape is pH neutral.

@@helencryerI know. I shouldn’t have. I’m sorry @awatercolourist.
