what a fantastic idea! I am 72 years old and would you believe, still have a large sheet of cartridge paper from High School! And have just made a folding sketchbook from it.
your paperclip idea is fantastic. But having it recessed by carving out only top layer of carboard... is GENIUS!!! thank you for showing us how to make this clever journal 😊
What a beautiful and useful watercolor sketch book you made. Thank you for such clear and concise directions. I do outdoor sketches and am so anxious to make this book. Thank you so much for making and sharing this video.😊(I may put a pocket inside the back cover.)
Amazing video, beautiful finished product! You are a calming voice as you teach, will I try this, perhaps! I don’t think I’ll be as calm! Thanks, Karen Dirmish, learner
I have made a few of these over the years using different sized papers. I love working in them and when they are full, you cam lay them out flat and see them all at once! You can use the pages singly or unfold as man my as you want. I discovered that I have lost track of what to cut, so makinga practice one out of copy paper first saves me frustration and paper! You can make them portrait or landscape, depending on which folds you cut.
I have made these books before too but not with the band, very clever. This year i just made a few extra as I have a few friends I want to give some too. This will give them a finished look, thanks for posting this.
I have made these books and used them on a Plein air trip. Love the idea of the built in elastic band and have them already. I use them on my sketchbooks. Thank you for sharing this!
Thank you so much for posting this tutorial! You make clear & simple. I've made small one page books for writing but never thought to make this as a sketchbook. I suggest an alternative binding. Hedi Kyle's non-adhesive binding is great. You will "lose" the first and last panels of the book, however you can use watercolor paper for the covers and have 2 surfaces to paint on. I have so many new ideas for art (not specifically for writing) books. Thank you so much for the inspiration!
Brilliant tutorial! Made perfect sense to me! I have made accordian books before without covers. So now I can go ahead and create sturdier ones with covers. ❤ TYSMFS! I am saving this video for reference.
Thank you for this tutorial! I made one these and I love it. I made a few personal adjustments, like I covered mine with gel prints instead of fabric. It is perfect for what I wanted. Thank you!
This is such a clear, simple and pleasant explanation and video. I’m finding myself obsessed with concertina or accordion sketchbooks lately. I had never heard of such a thing until I came across one of Karen Stamper videos. I made a book yesterday following another video but it didn’t go well, due to less than clear instructions. Your video is fantastic and I especially love the ponytail elastic idea and how you attached it to the back cover. Brava! Can’t wait to make them for myself as well as for gifts! Thank you so very much! 💕👩🏻🎨🥰🌺
Hi. Great video and info, thanks. Question though, is there a right and wrong side to the watercolor paper when using for this sketchbook? One only sketches and paints on on side?
Thanks, I'm glad you liked the video. You can paint on both sides of watercolor paper. The only difference is the texture is more subtle on the back. Usually, the paint will behave the same on both sides.
The folding, and particularly the way you cut the paper is brilliant! Thanks so much for this!

I love this. It looks super nice and well done for something so simple!
What a great little project!
I find it easyer to fold the paper if I spray the back with water and I use thinner paper on small books

Maravilloso trabajo! Ya me pongo a realizar el mío. 🏵️

very good thanks
Why not interleave sheets of cereal bag non stick plastic between covers and paper so it can be pressed?
Oh thank you! What did you glue the corrugated cardboard with? 💛
Thanks for watching. 😊 Any white glue will work.
@@beebearts-bethfranks3766 thankyou!
