Chinese airlines grab market share from US and European carriers who have to fly around Russia

  • US and European airlines are banned from Russian airspace, and so must route around the world's largest country. This is causing much longer and costlier flights between North America and Europe, and destinations in Southeast Asia.
Chinese, Korean, and Indian airlines still enjoy Russian overflight privileges, however, and can thereby offer shorter and less expensive fares.
As a result, Chinese carriers are gobbling up markets and gates across international markets. Chinese airlines already operate with 30% lower costs on a passenger-mile basis compared to US- and European-flagged carriers, and their cost advantages only multiply after adjusting for the issues involving Russian airspace.

As a Russian, I would like to note about Canada. The An-124 Ruslan aircraft, owned by the Volga-Dnepr company, was stuck at Pearson International Airport in Canada on February 27 2022 year. It was noted that the aircraft arrived in the country to deliver a batch of rapid tests for COVID-19. At the same time, Canada introduced a ban on the use of its airspace for all aircraft registered in Russia. The crew of the vehicle returned to Russia. Since then, the plane has been regularly fined for parking. How can I officially pay for anything in Canada? Obviously, pay in Canadian money, which is in Canadian banks. Thus, transactions in Western banks are blocked for Russia. Do you understand that this is a criminal scheme? Try to guess who this cargo plane was given to? Canada is a thief state!

As a Chinese American, I travelled with United Airline for business trips for 30 years and until recently I only travel with Asian Airlines including Taiwanese, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. I like Asian Airlines far more than American ones, not because of the prices. The food and courteous service are far better. Asian people are physically smaller, making sitting more comfortable. Tough luck for USA and EU airlines. You brought the war to Russia by encroaching its territorial borders. And now your airlines cannot fly over Russian airspace. And you’re crying about it tough luck. I used to fly United airlines to Beijing. And it would cost between US$1200-US$1500. Last year I flew United and had to fly to Hong Kong, and pay a Chinese airline to fly to Beijing. The United flight cost me US$2500, RT. United Airlines took the opportunity to gouge all of us passengers. My next flight to Beijing will not be on United Airlines.

Been to over 40 countries. Whenever I visit Asia, I prefer to fly Asian airlines bc: 1)young, QUICK, and hardworking flight attendants 2)they put on gloves and actually wipe clean toilet floors periodically which I have NEVER SEEN American staff do 3) no obesity, no risk of whiplash or traumatic brain injury when an obese attendant runs into you passing through the aisle 4) attentive even in the economy section where our USA staff will go MIA between meal services, they tend to hide in the gallery and socialize instead of taking care of customers 5) lastly, even pre-pandemic, Asian carriers are usually cheaper
So, even without the Russian airspace issue, I dislike flying US carriers
Oh, in general, Asian carriers have NEWER planes vs USA. Especially Cathay Pacific and Singapore
Almost forgot, FOOD and entertainment programming are MUCH BETTER with Asian carriers! I have NEVER been impressed by the food on board U.S. carriers…

The one problem is the US imposing these sanctions. We Europeans need the Russian energy, the materials and the markets, as well as the airspace.
The US cannot provide the energy (only at a prohibitive cost for LNG) cannot provide the raw materials because of the closed mines, is a shrinking market with a shrinking middle class and its airspace is nowhere in between Europe and any developing markets. The pivot to Asia is going to be world wide ... we do not want the sanctions, the wars, the ideology or the NGOs of the US ... we just want to live in our own countries and work and live well. Which we can do without America's meddling.

The new virulent strain of Monkey Pox is transmitted via touch or touch material such as aircraft seats which have been contaminated. Flights to Europe could be cancelled soon if a pandemic is declared, as previously organized.
Will the airline cancel all flights to Africa until such time vaccination programs 8 months can have an effect.?
UK and European authorities will insist on all verified vaccination certificates for all passenger coming from Africa. The staff strongly advise cancellation of any flights from the effective countries before it kills staff and kills the brand. This was done before so this is the likely outcome of UK, European, and US governments?
