He was only mentioned in Live and Let Die.
Didn't realize until now he wasn't in Live and Let Die
@@ichabeezerebenezer8561 he was filming another film at the time of filming Live and Let Die, but was able to find time to film his scene, but Broccoli told him to not come and film a scene, and he was disappointed, because he really wanted to be in the film.
He’s only on screen for 30 minutes over 36 years, but Q became as much an icon as Bond himself!
Not unlike the original Moneypenny, Louis Maxwell.
Her total screen time as Moneypenny in 14 films was less than two hours, and she spoke fewer than 200 words.
To say Q is as iconic as Bond himself is pretty ridiculous, to be honest.
@@ppuh6tfrz646 but he is
@@mracke47 But he isn't.
@@mracke47 he isn't.
Desmond was perfect in this role. In spite of his limited screen time, he became a legend. I get the impression he really loved the role. He is certainly missed.
He did say he had no intention of leaving the role despite the retirement banter in his last appearance, and that he would always come back to the role as long as "the producers want me and the almighty doesn't."
@@aleksandarvil5718 that's fucked up man don't joke about that stuff
The irony of his role was that Desmond Llewellyn in real life was actually quite awkward with technology.
"Need I remind you, 007, that you have a license to kill, not to break the traffic laws." Best Q line ever.
"I wouldn't think of it."
From the moment Q says, “Now pay attention 007” you’re in for classic moment
Yes, a classic Q line. Others include, "Don't touch that - that's my lunch!", "Made one of these for the kids last Christmas.", and my all-time favorite, "I never joke about my work, 007."
The only time "Q" addresses 007 as "James" is in On Her Majesty's Secret Service. What a touching moment. It's kind of like Father - Son talk.
I reckon after Tracey's death, Bond was crying on Q's shoulder since Q clearly cares so much about him, but won't say it to his face
Maximum Bond Fanatic detected!
*Respect*
And also license to kill. He called James Bond " Bond ".
“I have always tried to teach you two things...”. 😢😢😢
1. Never let them see you bleed
2. Always have an escape plan
Same feelings...
Sadly (NTTD spoiler alert)...... in NTTD, Bond failed to follow both advice....
He wasn't talking to Bond when he said that. He was talking to the audience
@@andrewchung2940 Well to be fair, we " lost" a cheap ripoff of Bourne, not James Bond.
So no problem at all.
According to John Cleese, Wilson and Broccolli were planning on bringing back Llewelyn for at least four more films and Llewelyn himself stated he would happily continue playing Q "as long as the producers want [him] and the Almighty doesn't." His very sad and unfortunate death in a car accident prevented this.
But personally, the final scene he has in The World is not Enough is THE perfect, most subtly beautiful send-off for the actor who was in this series for thirty years. It wasn't overplayed, yet every ounce of sentiment was there...
1) announce of retirement and impending successor
2) Bond asking him "you're not retiring anytime soon... are you?" - the pause gives an intimate layer to their relationship as if Bond is genuinely taken aback by this Q leaving, especially if Licence to Kill is considered wholly connected to the Brosnan era
3) the way Llewelyn says the last line is somewhat of a fatherly approach
4) "always have an escape plan" is a perfect way of making a farewell a classic Q gag as he descends through the lab doors, another brilliant use of mise-en-scene
It's very bittersweet and beyond fitting for the great man that gave Bond his gadgets as well as being a great rival in the one-liners. RIP Sir Llewelyn, forever the definitive Q
Well said 👏🏻👏🏻
I've been on a spree rewatching Bond from Connery to Brosnan and the one constant that has me smiling is Llewelyn's portrayal of Q. He is most sorely missed.
He did car accident to put himself out of misery.
Better than on death bed and wasting so much money on pills.
"My god, what is bond doing?" "I think he is attempting reentry sir." -Q's best line, had me in
stitches. :D
Moonraker had the best soundtrack of all Bond movies.
He was a naturally funny man. He got funnier as he got older. M.
I’m in no mood for your juvenile quips! Lmfao
Yeah, it dawns on me that he was funny in kind of the same way that Maggie Smith is. There's something about an older, stiff-necked British person (and I say that respectfully) that is just somehow ripe for comedy, especially if they've got wonderful vinegar-laced dialogue to deliver.
Yes that’s true. It’s rare for entertainers to accomplish that,
Last year marked twenty years since Desmond died on that horrible day, but let us think about the many laughs and incredible moments from our favorite Quartermaster, Mayor Boothroyd.
Fun fact,
Desmond Llewelyn was an officer for the
Royal Welch Fusiliers, he was taken as a prisoner of war and was kept as a prisoner of war until the camp was destroyed, they had attempted to tunnel out once before
"I never joke about my work 007!"
RIP Desmond Llewelyn (September 12, 1914 - December 19, 1999), aged 85
You will always be remembered as a legend.
From the You Only Live Twice segment...the fact that Bond doesn't even consider Tiger's offer to use his helicopter instead of Little Nellie says a lot; Bond may relish giving Q a hard time, but he's got faith in the man's work.
I’m never certain whether Roger Moore interfering with the camera in Octopussy was written into the script, or if it was Roger trying to mess with Desmond. Roger admitted he often did things that messed with him, such as changing a cue-card held by a stage hand from a complicated word to ‘Bollocks’
Hehehe. Cheeky Rog
lolol.
I remember Desmond saying Sean Connery used to play with the gadgets to wind him up at that point they were going for a 'Frustrated Teacher and Naughty school boy' dynamic between Q and Bond
Time stamp?
Q - Definitely the best Bond character.
"Something we're making for the Americans...it's called a 'Ghetto blaster'" LMAO!!!
Drops the sick beats, and Tanks!
Desmond Llewellyn is my favourite actor to play q I am currently on James bond film marathon I Always look up at the screen when Desmond Llewellyn is on the screen
I wholeheartedly agree
To me Desmond Llewellyn is to James bond is what Bernard cribbins is to doctor who two absolute gems of human beings who steal the show consistently and are both sorely missed
26:05 DON'T TOUCH THAT! It's my lunch.
Classic!
I was honestly expecting that sandwich to shoot out a poison dart or something.
The scene I like most Is where he says “I think is is attempting re-entry” is hilarious
My favorite Q moments is during the Moore, Dalton and Brosnan era, mostly because that's where he's at his funniest and it seems like Desmond Llewelyn loves to joke around.
I always loved this guy's, iconic scenes
The very last scene is kind of heartbreaking. 😪
Yes, John Cleese in a Bond film.
We all missed him very much.
Q: now pay attention 007 There's only two things I've always tried to teach you ..
1st .. Never let them see you bleed.
Bond: and the 2nd ?
Q: always have an escape plan .
(Gawd I miss him )
I saw this in theaters and it broke my heart as a kid. I couldn't believe Q left.
Yes but poetry❤
Q was just as a good as Bond, every movie I was always excited to see what new gadgets he had for Bond.
I love how he only calls him 007: Strictly business.
Except at his wedding which is pretty fitting and understandable.
There's a few extra scenes in Licence To Kill (1989) that you missed... e.g. Q as a chauffeur, Q helping Bouvier & Bond in framing Krest, Q reporting Sanchez's position with his garden sweeper...
Yes I was also looking out for those.
Plus, he was at post-victory party celebration in the end of movie.
I think there are to more scenes missing from octopussy 1 He is disguised as a priest 2 vijay Reliefs q in guarding the palace
Rest in peace, Desmond Llewelyn. We will always pay attention.
Just the look on Bond's face after Q tells him about the ejector seat during Goldfinger... you know Bond wants to have some fun with that.
Add in the smug look when Bond does use it later on in the film
The scenes with Pierce seem the most fun. Pierce looks genuinely honored to banter with Q.
Breaks my heart that final clip.
Name 2 things that made the 007 franchise amazing?
Everyone else : the cars and the girls.
Regular fans: the action and the gadgets .
Me: the og Q and a good Bond . TwT
Its all 6, francly
I was very sad with his last appearance...it was the end...a farewell of so many years in several films of the franchise
Q is the only man who can talk smack to 007 and live.
M would like a word with you.
I think there's always going to be a feeling of something missing in future James Bond films without Desmond Llewelyn around.
His role in Licence to Kill was awesome, he did an amazing job.
That reentry line cracks me up
His name is major boothroyd because the real boothroyd wrote to Ian Fleming saying that bond needed a better gun in his novels instead of the beretta that bond was previously using , he recommended the walther ppk and bonds famous gun was used after that in all films . Fleming was so impressed by boothroyd he named Q after him
People asked how the rebreathers in Thunderball worked and the producers said “As long as the actor can hold their breath.”
Its 2021 and I am still a Bond freak, thanks to Q(Desmond)now pay attention.
Same Here !!!
Bond: Q, have I ever let you down?
Q: Frequently.
As Bond squeals off in the new Lotus Esprit! lol
I feel like you can know how good a Bond film is in how good it’s Q scene is. (Excluding Casino Royale ofc)
He had starred in Bond movies a lot more times than any Bonds .
the only time Bond feels dumb is when hes talking to Q lol
There has not been, is not, and will never be another like the original Q. Desmond Llewelyn...may he rest in power. There is no other.
the last scene is so touching
If I were an agent, i could of always relied on Q for my weapons and equipment. Miss him dearly
He was also present at the Ascot scene in A view to a kill, only a minor detail
Now that is a final scene. Awesome.
I like Desmond Llewellyn as Q
From his wiki:
His last appearance as Q prior to his death was in The World Is Not Enough in 1999. During his briefing of 007 in the film, Q introduces John Cleese's character, R, as his heir presumptive, and the film alludes to Q's retirement, to which Bond, after seeing Q, expresses his hope that it will not be any time soon. Q's response is to admonish Bond to "always have an escape plan", after which he lowers himself through the floor of his lab. Llewelyn had stated not long before his death that he had no plans to retire and that he would continue playing Q "as long as the producers want me and the Almighty (God) doesn't."
I guess God decided that He wanted him.
I think I've seen Brosnan make some comment about that scene - Llewelyn had died just 3 weeks after the film released.
RIP Desmond Llewelyn *(1914 - † 1999)*
"What are you doing? Oh cut it out! We haven't time for that! Later perhaps."
Since Desmond LleweLyn R.I.P. no longer in James bond, that's when James bond went downhill. I loved Character Q in it. Sometimes people forget he played big of success of James bond franchise. They actor Desmond LleweLyn R.I.P. he will be missed.
My favorite bond character, even more than Bond himself.
@5:15 They kept out a line Desmond had wanted to add. "Well there is another way, but you may find it rather uncomfortable." LOL
Ahh such a shame, that would've been genius
I never understood the suitcase being so secrety full of hidden gadgets... only to be filled with a massive gun in plain sight.
“The Ghetto Blaster” 😂😂😂
3:51 - my favorite
"it's waterproof of course,"
"but of course"
Q looks at him like Bond's comments and shenanigans happen every day on the microscale hahaha
Haha @ 12:48 I like the "easter egg" (for lack of a better term) that the filmmakers for For Your Eyes Only added there... not the first time they've done that in the Bond films.
I swear to god I could listen to q list down spy gadgets all day long
Not many actors get to go out in such style
Now THAT is how how you exit a franchise. Desmond was a great Q 😊
I would have liked to have seen Desmond make a guest appearance in “Star Trek:The Next Generation” as a senior “Q”who would show up to give John DeLancie’s Q character a galactic ration of snark.
12:48 nobody does it better is the keypad sound
17:00 'We haven't time for that.' Q Brain Recalculates 'Ok maybe later'
What a king.
12:48 the code was the notes to Nobody Does It Better 😍
Amazing
...THE ORIGINAL Q is missed,he was a character!!!
It's amazing how tech was pretty much the same up til around 2000.
Not gonna lie In the first three Brosnan Movies it felt like Bond and Q were like a Father (Q) and a Son (Bond) I love that detailed in the Brosnan Movies
Best Q of them all
The best legendary Q ever in James Bond history!! He is better than Ben Wishaw Q in all Daniel Craig movies
he was so greatfully pictured in animation movie Despicable Me and portrayed through Dr Nefario.... whole time watching that cartoon was thinking of him as of Dr Q. : ) Rest in peace Doc....
The Writing's on the Wall.....a few years later, the song for Spectre.....
You missed one scene in For Your Eyes Only. Q meets 007 in a confessional.
Bond: Forgive me Father, for I have sinned.
Q: That's putting it mildly!
But still, a lovely montage. Thank you so much for sharing.
Desmond Llewelyn hated the role and was more than happy to leave after The World is Not Enough after nearly 30 years playing Q.
Q was an awesome field operative in LTK.
19:40 i love the way he says Ghettoblaster!
This video should have been titled, "Q being done with 007 for 31 minutes."
As a kid he was the best I loved seeing him and the gadgets he would bring
excellent
14:56 - forget James Bond, that’s Boba Fett!
The relationship between Q and 007 is like a father contending to a rebellious and very curious son with college boy flirty tendencies and teenage wit.
And Desmond, your son hasn't learned his lesson for returning the equipment in pristine order and keeping away from the ladies.
Big actor. Nostalgia for yor films james bond 007
The best Q reminded me of Xmas for some reason
Nice work!! The only one I noticed missing was from ‘Diamonds Are Forever’ where James compliments Q for the false fingerprints
Q made James Bond. Period.
22:30 - Fun Fact:
In the actual SIS / MI6, _"cousins"_ is a term for the CIA.
26:05 Don’t Touch That, It’s My Lunch
Sean Connery the best 007 for me
Desmond Llewelyn the best Q
AND a record 37 years in the same rool.
In 37 years were interpreted 4 actors as 007 excuse my english . Its not muy native lenguage. Thanks. Greeting
With special care
I much prefer “in pristine order.” But that is just me.
Q Branch has some great safety practices. 19:35 'Hey how late should we wait to move everyone out of the way of the boombox-mounted rocket launcher?'
'They can just duck out of the way once it's already started its firing sequence, no big deal.'
'What about a special testing chamber for it?'
'nah, the office where everyone else is working at their desks will do'
He was the best
7:57 just imagine Q in the movie Casino.
gotta love those gadgets
The Greatest Quartermaster........
My firsf heoes rest in peace
11:53- "Oh, THANK YOU, 007... 😳😒"
