      Moore took a slightly aloof position on the Bond character which miffed the old Bond, played by the more one-dimensional Connery, who then came up with this contrived nonsense about Moore relying too much on technical devices 😂

    • @michaelbarlow7777
      @michaelbarlow7777 Месяц назад +7

      @Hallands. Although the overemphasis on gadgetry in the Bond film franchise started in the Connery era with "Goldfinger"(1964) (the modified by Q-Branch attache case and Red Grant's hidden wire wristwatch in "FRWL" ,although forms of gadgetry, were more practical and believable than the absurd gadgetry in later Bond films), the really outlandish gadgetry devices went "beyond the pale" in the Bond films in the Moore era! Moore's Bond, as Connery accurately pointed out numerous times in interviews, relied way too much on gadgets to extricate himself from tough situations (e.g., the C4 type explosive in one of Bond's wristwatches and the armor-piercing and cyanide-tipped darts in Bond's other wristwatch-type device in "Moonraker "(1979) )! In the Moore era of the Bond films, Bond seemed to be "just along for the ride" to operate the gadgets rather than relying on his wits to get himself out of tough spots!

    The truth is that Seltzman and Broccoli wanted Roger Moore as James Bond in their first movie, but Moore was under contract for the TV Series "The Saint" and the producer didn't release him... that's why they went with their second choice Sean Connery... Something similar happened with Pierce Brosnan when the producers of Remington Steele" didn't let Brosnan out of his contract for the American TV Series and they went with their second choice Timothy Dalton... in 1973 they finally got Roger as the 007 Agent because he was able to not renew his contract for "The Persuaders"...

      Brosnan was actually released from remmington steele as the network cancelled it.
      However the press about Brosnan being bond meant that the network recommissioned the series and the contract meant Brosnan had to return to the show and the rest is history.
      Dalton got somewhat screwed by the legal dispute and they went back to Brosnan when they resolved it all as Dalton had refused to continue.

    Sean Connery, for me and for many more, is the greatest James Bond. Albert R. Broccoli and Harry Saltzman were absolutely correct in selecting Sean Connery as the first Bond. Others put their own twists on the character, but the base of the character was created by Sean Connery. Initially, Ian Fleming and Sean Connery were not impressed with each other. However, that changed once Fleming saw Connery in action, so much so that he gave Bond a Scottish heritage in his later books to match Connery's own. Connery's sophistication plus the edge and danger that he gave the character has always rung true with me. Sean Connery was and is the perfect Bond character for me.

    If you read any of Flemings books, you get a deeper portrait of the Bond character. He's smart, trained in his sophistication, a former special soldier or Marine as I recall, and a bit of a thug. Takes someone with a dark past to fill that bill. Connery had that. I not sure about Moore however. But Connery's take on the series is well considered. The gadgets and trick technology seemed to have overrun the story lines. The Saint was built around Moore, and I thought it a pretty good watch. The Bond movie character, by the time Goldfinger was released, was built around Connery. My pick for best Bond; From Russia With Love. Less tricks, more story.

    After researching the true and accurate description of Bond from the Ian Fleming novels, the one actor that many believed fitted that description almost perfectly was British Actor: Lewis Collins, who portrayed the role of Bodie in the Hit UK Spy show, "CI5: The Professionals" from the late 70's and early 80's. Unfortunately, for Lewis the auditioning process for the role of Bond, led him to have to contend with the obnoxious, pretentious and power tripping attitude of American movie producer 'Cubby' Broccoli, who behaved like a typical Hollywood elite of the time, smoking cigars and thinking he was 'king shit' over everyone and everything. It ultimately led to Lewis not receiving the role, much to the annoyance and anger of many influential people that had strongly backed him for the role. For millions of fans around the world, Lewis Collins will always be regarded as the: "Bond that Never Was, That Should have Been".

    I don't know, but I must say Connery seems to be the most loved Bond of all. I guess it comes down to the old saying, " the original and the best"
    For me personally I think Timothy Dalton delivered a bond that was far truer to the character that the author had created. Dalton was great, in fact Timothy was great at everything he did.

      His role as Sir Malcolm Murray in the great series "Penny Dreadful" was fabulous, and he did it with other great actors like Eva Green, Harry Treadaway, Rory kinnear (Ms agent) Billy Piper, Simon Russell beale, Helen McRory (RIP)...the Living daylights was the only Bond film that made me buy a newish car and drive from England to Vienna for three weeks to see the Living daylights iconic places in 1989

      @@mikedestiny4122 Wow, you are quite a fan then, so am I actually. I think Timothy Dalton was an extremely talented man, yet one that was rather underrated as an actor. In fact, I don't think HE even knew how good he was. He was far too humble in my opinion.
      Thank you so much for your response.

      Dalton's first Bond movie was the equal of any of the Bond movies, he preferred stage acting and quit movies.

      Agreed, Dalton was amazing as Bond, having read and insisted on being more faithful to the novels. I think he had a hard time with fans who wanted the camp and cheesy style of Roger Moore instead of the much darker Bond Dalton portrayed.
      Interestingly, a lot of people are unaware that Dalton was offered the role of Bond when Connery refused to return for "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" but turned it down feeling he was "too young to do it justice" at the time.
