Everything with this album hits me. From the Jesuses and the semen stained mountain tops to the tomatoes and ashes raining from an aeroplane. A masterpiece from the beginning too the end

Sucks that Oh Comely, easily the most impactful and moving song on the album, isn’t even mentioned. If you haven’t heard that song, do it. The lyrics give me chills.
I always thought it was about Sophie Scroll a 21 year old college student and core member of the German resistance group the "White Roses;" hence the line "white roses in her eyes"
@@kylemedlin3268 Jeff magnum said in an interview the line "white Rose's in her eye" was written at a time before he knew the white rose resistance movement, if I remember correctly
@@fred2796 just because it references Anne Frank doesn't mean it can't reference anyone else. I don't recall Anne Frank ever being a boy in Spain, but hey it is called Holland 1945 right? Clearly she's only historical reference that could be in the song and everything else is random words without any meaning.
For some reason I don't like the fact that most of what was animated was just verbatim images from the songs. Maybe I am over interpreting the intentions of the tracks, but I feel like it isn't so cut and dry like that.
What a beautiful video. NMH is my favorite band and I am so thankful I got to see them live in Cleveland in 2015. One of the best days of my life. Thank you for this!
Spectacular! Thanks for transporting me to a new take and perspective of this beautiful album. The animation alone speaks volumes to your talent as an artist! That was delightful😁
Robert Peterson is a Linalg professor at my college and I just found that out today. I'm still in awe of the genius of all the people who put that album together
Strange how a publication known for not liking anything, especially if its experimental, unless its universally praised, made a whole video deticated to one of the greatest albums evee made, with visuals that actually match the music. Pitchfork, for this video, i award you, a W.
That album is an indie legend! It's a timeless and unique piece of art. (Not to mention the overload of 90' nostalgia!) Weirdly my favourite song from it (beside title track ofc) is "Communist Daughter", it's soo melancholic, comfortingly gloomy, and way too short.
for fans of this album - try jeremy enigk’s album return of the frog queen. it actually predates ITAOTS by two years and foreshadows much of its sound and vibe, even the lyrics are similarly surreal and dreamlike, with a very majestic, whimsical, rustic sort of vibe. the songs feel like strange fairytales or fables much like this album
Also Jeff performed for the Occupy Wall Street protestors! He's super turned off by the "meme" image his work has take on, but still is a fantastic guy.
I saw their 2nd to last show ever(apparently). They blew everyone's fucking minds. Their sing saw player has so much charisma and Jeff seems just as mysterious as his lyrics make him out to be. But Damn,, that sing saw guy is rad.
okay... cool video. It's nice that I've learn about the lucid dreams and reading of Ann Frank's book by the lyricist. But.... I think the lyrics, and how they relate with the music, could have been explored more in depth. HOW HEARTBREAKINGLY sad and beautiful it is all. "Two Headed Boy" is probably the most beautiful and saddest song I've heard in my life: this whole story of a malformed kid trapped in a glass jar and the main character trying to console him talking about a wonderful future (that might not come) and acceptance and love
Maybe I'm unfamiliar with this channel but don't tell me you're giving me an animated look at my favorite album of all time with some dude talking over it the entire damn time.
Really dropped the ball not mentioning Oh Comely which literally ends with someone in the studio screaming Holy shit at just how amazing the song was
