I found it very odd that HFM didn't include MauLer/EFAP in this and I wonder if he didn't want to include them because he thought that they would respond but none of the others would.
That one is a bit of a head scratcher. It's not like the EFAP crew didn't have a go at Rings of Power. They made a series of long videos critiquing ROP, all of them getting 100-200+ thousand views even though they're around 6 to 11 hours long. Platoon of the "woke bros" also joined them in those videos. So how in the hell did HFM not even mention EFAP? I very much doubt that he's not aware of them. The only reason that makes sense is that he deliberately decided not to acknowledge them for whatever reason.
@jeremyusreevu237 not policing, just squashing common mistakes... EFAP is hosted by Mauler Fringy and Rags, anyone else is just a guest. Also they don't do "woke" commentary, they try very hard to avoid politics in their story analysis unless its unavoidable, so it makes sense that they weren't brought up. Also Also, he seems to take most of his clips from edited videos not podcasts, again, not EFAP
There's no way it's because he doesn't consider them a part of the wokebros. Rags has said a lot of things that could get him considered a wokebro, especially since the stuff he says about trans people would absolutely get him canceled by the kind of people who hate JK Rowling. I think he's scared of getting EFAPed, so he hopes to avoid it by going after associates of EFAP instead.
I think the reason they have stopped going after EFAP is simply that they are such a diverse bunch. Rags is an open (massive) homosexual, Jay is "Trans", Fringy is black and Mauler being from wales represents people with learning difficulties.
Jay wanted Matt Walsh and his kids denied healthcare because he (Matt) doesn't want kids taking hormones and chopping off their bits. Jay can go kick rocks.
I think the reason he deleted that section is because he found out that his assumption that people on the internet just stay in their echo chambers is incorrect. He was probably unpleasantly surprised to find out that a lot of his viewers also watch the "Woke Bros," or at least empathize with that perspective, and could see the flaws in his argument.
That's very unlikely, seeing as he was explicit about not wishing to make anyone feel bad for following these creators. He has stated in the comment section of his video that he had mental health difficulties after the publication and also that he didn't deliver his criticism as kindly as he thinks he should have. Considering his history on RUclips, both of these statements seem genuine and believable.

@@eralfion5316 I think most people who are against that type of diversity also come at it from an emotional perspective rather than a rational one. I remember the outrage when the character of Hermione Granger was played by a black actress in that Harry Potter play, but I don't remember anywhere near that type of outrage (and certainly not by the same people) that Hermione in the film was much more beautiful and didn't have overlarge front teeth (which both are plot points and character building in the books), or that her hair is different from the books.
@@Casutama That time not that many people reaad the books, also those are two completly different things. Was the black actress an ugly duckling, or was she too aestitacally attractive? And beside the plays, what movie do you know where the main characters doesn't made more attractive than in the source material? Also being protetic about characters and settings we like is of course emotional, but perfectly valid. It is just a bigger slap on the face when it's not just altered but made so disregarding the setting, etc. Going back to Hermoine she is bullyed either way because she is a "mudblood" so it doesn't matter much wheter she is beautiful or not, also I thought her parents are dentists, why is her teeth weird in the first palce? But if she were black then her paernts were too,a nd she would have grown up in an entirelly different way and culture. Like when and how did her ancestor got into the Uk, did she experience rasism growin up (almost certantly), how did this affect her attitude and personality? Wouldn't there be a paraller with her treatment as a "mudblood"? What would change that this is not the first time she encounters some kind racism? Would Draco point out her skin colour too? What would this do with her confidence and social skills? Did she hoped that in this new magical world everything will be different only to get dissapointed? Doesn't she interested about African magic? Etc. I hate when people race swap charqacters or insert new diverse ones and act like nothing changed, without addressing racism, discrimination, cultural differences and possible racial tensions and history (especially in fantasy where this change the setting but not thought through how). Like why are they black dwarfs in Rings of Power? Doesn't dwarves been created by some god or something? Why did they make black ones? Doesn't they live underground? Why the extra melanin? And if their colour doesn't matter how did the colours persist and not avarage out throught the geenrations? Do black dwarves usually marry about themselves? Why? Do they have different culture? What is their relation with the other dwarves? How preverent is racism and why? How was it historically? etc.
I like how one of the alternates he gives to these channels is Overly Sarcastic Productions who let their politics bleed into their analysis quite frequently 😂
Indeed. Red is openly christianophobic and notably made a poorly-informed rant about modern economics in a video about Robin Hood. Blue's a lot better in that when he let some factually incorrect information with a political bent slip into a history video, he released a corrected version when the error was raised.
@@TheRealHosty Ah that is a standard left wing take on it. Am I mad or in the story isn't Robin Hood 'stealing' taxes from corrupt government officials and giving it back to the people?
@@Don9872 More or less as Hosty said. 'Capitalism bad' without nuance or regard for the time period. May have been some anti-monarchist tripe in there too, but it's been a while. Speaking of hypocrisy. Correct me if i'm wrong, because i only watched HFM video once and can't remember the details, but i'm pretty sure he mentioned channels he likes/is friends with as an alternative to watch, instead of all the channels he criticized. And the channels he mentioned were Daniel Greene and Lindsay Ellis, both of whom have made videos hating (instead of entirely giving constructive feedback) on JK Rowling speaking on women's issues as it relates to the whole trans thing.Tim criticizes the supposedly anti-feminist channels when he himself doesn't realize there is always another side to the coin and that the channels he recommends many women (and men) would find offensive and, dare i say, anti-feminist as well. Tim also says "don't be quick to anger" like Shad and Nerdrotic etc, watch these other people who are quick to-...I mean, always right and can never be wrong instead. I just found that funny :D
and even to play devil's advocate for them would require the concession of saying that comparing reasonable outrage in response to something that is intolerable & mental-illness isn't a false equivalency and obvious strawman.
I was actually a big fan of Lindsay Ellis...'s videos... some of them... when she was criticizing Phantom of the Opera and Cats, and stuff like that. She's a talented, skilled, and passionate film critic, and her videos about movies are entertaining, funny and informative. Her videos about political and social topics, however, are as blunt and unsubtle as it's possible to be. She's a perfect example of what people are accusing Critical Drinker and Platoon of doing, drawing people in with a comedy video about a Disney movie and then sneaking in a lecture about "problematic portrayals of marginalized groups" or whatever. This is all okay, of course, because she's a leftist and not a "right wing extremist." It's a perfect example of what they talked about in the video- "What we do is heroic activism, what they do is political grifting." Creating an echo chamber and radicalizing your audience is only evil if you're on the wrong side of the political spectrum. Otherwise, you're just "educating your audience."
I am not saying Lindsay Ellis has nothing of value to say about media, but any time anyone mentions her as a recommendation it's a big red flag to me. It's like mentioning Quinton. These people are overtly political and rarely have I come walking away from conversation with their fans without thinking they care more about the politics than the medium. Man I just want good writing back, less overt politics and more justification for worldbuilding.
What bugs me is that, as someone with a large channel, who specialises in Fantasy writing, HFM could have been a really powerful voice in criticising Hollywood's abysmal attempts at fantasy from a left-wing perspective. i,e.: The Witcher could have been great representation for Slavic actors + culture The Wheel of time could have shown how racial profiling is generally a bad thing (like it does in the books). etc Regarding his response to the comments (about mental health and masculinity), I'd point him straight towards Greg Owen, Master Samwise and Pilgrim's Pass, all of who openly champion positive masculinity
@@examiningkubrickphilosofia1530 That is....literally the opposite of what I'm saying. I'm saying he has far more in common with the "Wokebros" he criticises than he does the Hollywood elites he is accidentally running interference for. @cursedcancersurvivor I mean to me he sounds like the generic British gay voice, kinda like the American Lisp that some american gays adopt but for British people.
I'm sorry if this sounds like a cheep shot at Hello Future Me, I just need this off my chest. It is extremely hypocritical of him to say all these creators are being political to mislead young men when his political bias comes out very explicitly. Like when he starts saying we shouldn't say a revolutionary's stance is invalid when they start acting violent (or something) or how a movie is bad because of "white savior" tropes. Which that last one is ironic, sense it seems like he himself acts like his higher education make him oh so helpful to everyone watching. My heart sank when HFM chose to delve into attacking you and the critics. While I knew HFM's personal politics were left leaning, to his credit he mostly stayed out of commenting on social issues or if it was political; he made sure to make separate videos and not tie it to anything story or entertainment related(Japanese internment camps for example). But this bit really was a mask off moment. Talk about a void of self-awareness. Saying folks like you are trojan horsing politics and social issues into the entertainment sphere and yet he did it with ROP. On top of that, he was making horrible broad generalizations of you Platoon, RFTs to Shadiversity and Nerdrotic. I have issues with Shad but his criticisms, and others, aren't wrong about ROP. The social element of girl bosses and stuff do exist and they are surrounded by horrendous writing. Case in point, I doubt HFM was aware of Drinker praising series, like Blue Eye Samurai or Arcane, female led/ driven series because that would pop his narrative. Folks like HFM disgust me. Strong words but they try to act reasonable and centrist but they are no better than the folks they criticize. In their eyes, their political views are the only thing correct and anyone else is a heretic. And if I am to really delve deeply, I suspect he maybe a bit jealous. It's no shock that Drinker is near 2 million subs. That's insane for a movie channel and it shows he has a lot of reach and pull. HFM isn't small either with his fanbase. But while Drinker isn't perfect/ infallible; I think the fact that catchphrases like "The Message" are so widespread has folks like HFM terrified. And that's just sad. We all have relatively the same conclusions of ROP being bad and share mostly similar points. But can't be associated with us because tribalism and audience capture. It's why I unsubbed from him after leaving a lenghtly comment. I do like his older videos but it's clear he's changed for the worst.
I was just going to write a comment in a similar vain. I've been watching HFM's channel for years because of our shared love for Avatar: The Last Airbender. I really appreciate his takes on worldbuilding. I was really surprised and disappointed that Nerdrotic got a shout-out early on in the Rings of Power video and that... there's the whole conclusion. I don't think any of his 1M subscribers expected such a turn from him. The title of the video is deceptive not only for "RUclips travellers" but for HFM's regulars as well.
@@adam.e.nowakowskiCorrect. And to call Nerdrotic spreading hate and negativity is just false and disingenuous when HFM himself is the one using his critique of the ROP as a vehicle for spreading his hatred. Nerdrotic actually sheds light in a dim tunnel as he makes an effort to reach out, talk, and meet up with actual people like his fans, other RUclipsrs, and lately even Piers Morgan. He's also open to discussions with people who have opposite political views, as long as they have something in common to talk about.
Exactly. HFM has multiple videos on how topics of religion, politics, etc are COMPLICATED, but then has such a black and white take on messaging in media. I was very disappointed.
That's just the thing. I've gotten so many good recommendations from people like Drinker. Who does this future me guy expect me to watch? The liars who shilled rings of power? If I have to choose between some guy who might be lying to me or the people openly lie to me every week while hating my guts, the choice is obvious.
I have typically enjoyed Hello Future Me's work for many years. He has some good insights into story and world building. It was a shame to see him let his need to defend his political camp cloud his reason like that. I actually am one of the few people left who enjoys hearing the viewpoints of people of a variety of political background. How dull a place the world would be if I only heard my own echo.
@@MagcargoMan calling out specific creators is a different beast than just discussing the ideas... especially when he largely agreed with them. They had a lot of common ground on this subject, and I thought Hello Future Me would have appreciated that. People of all political alignments can make reasonable points.
I just love how demeaning and dismissive HFM was, intentionally or not, toward these other RUclipsr's audience, regarding them as vulnerable young men who are being manipulated. I'm many things, but young isn't one of them!
"Lonely/vulnerable men" is how they use pity to demean a group of people to the point that they can step in as the saviors and "protect" them via indoctrination. HFM is duping himself into being one of these saviors. It reeks of snobbery, and you both are examples of why it's nothing but pure hubris.
I like Hello Future Me, mainly his book stuff, but I didn’t agree with a lot of his Rings critique. Rings was not mediocre, it’s was pretty terrible. I’d rather watch Xena, and that cost ridiculously less to make. Galadriel’s slow-mo horse ride on the beach was actually the worst thing ever put to screen
I actually agreed with most of the part of his critique that was actual critique. I didn't think I would when he started out by saying that Elrond and Durin's story "had heart". Since he later clarified that it was the characters and not the plot with heart, I let it pass. The Dwarves truly did have a lot of heart as characters. Even Disa. I expected to despise Disa when I saw Nomvette's publicity appearances, but now I am a fierce advocate for Disa after watching the show. Specifically, I advocate for her to get competent writers to give her a proper non-Longbeard backstory. That way she could actually matter to the story in her own right instead of borrowing significance from the Durins. Such a waste of a magnificent potential. His opinions of Elrond, on the other hand...well, he's entitled to his opinion, I guess. He lost me when he called Arondir's dilemma over felling the tree "interesting," though. It was a painfully clumsy and obvious attempt to borrow from PJ's interview and tell the audience, "See? Tolkien cared about trees. Our Elves care about trees, too!" They clearly didn't think that through when they were designing the Elven costumes to include giant slabs of felled tree with the Green Man (who may or may not have been intended to represent Fangorn...a nasty visual taunt if ever I've seen one) carved into them.
In one of his earlier vids he said galadriel in rop was not a bad/stupid character (I don’t remember the exact wording, but that’s the gist of it). Since then I never watched his vids for any writing advice. That was either dishonest or dumb.
@@samipersun9995 I think maybe you shouldn't stop watching someone based off of _one_ sentence. You should watch that ROP critique video; even if you don't agree with everything, it's still a useful and perfectly good critique.

The problem with that is Gary’s M-She-U comment is true because it’s an accurate way of describing the current state of Marvel. Whereless, HFM’s “Woke Bro” comment is a lie because your average viewer would think “these are people who promote woke values”.
Woke Bros is a complete inversion of what the term would mean. HBomber and HelloFutureMe and other cucks are what that is. But cuck is just an allround better word.
Wait was this why I suddenly got recommended his ROP video a couple days ago?😂 Audience overlap I had only gotten to the hour mark so I had no idea all this went down
It's worth noting that he posted one of the best takedowns on RUclips of why the Wheel of Prime was bad, and although he included the usual handwavey "other people online are criticizing it for the wrong reasons, but it's still bad" shibboleth that people in his corner of the internet are required to include when they're actually being honest about bad media, I feel like he suffered a lot of pushback against that video, and resented the fact that other, less desirable detractors of the show were using his video as evidence in Reddit debates. He probably overcompensated with the Shibboleth this time.
Why would they be "required" to include that? It's not that uncommon that people like or dislike something for very different reasons and you don't want people to misunderstand your criticism. If I wrote an article titled "The case for selective migration" I would also make clear that I think other people, whose stance on migration I don't share, want that for the wrong reasons; not because I'd be afraid to get cancelled and therefore think I'm required to include it, but because someone misunderstanding my intentions might prevent people who share my opinion from engaging with my arguments, or assume I have a hidden agenda that I don't. HFM has always been honest about pieces of media, but also always generous. He tries to go in with an open mind (as far as anyone can tell), he gives the benefit of the doubt or expresses hope that a piece of media might improve in the future, but he's open about when something is bad or disappointing.
I hate to say that I am not too surprised that HFM did this. I will say, I would genuinely love a conversation perhaps on EFAP with Mauler as a more neutral party to occur between you all. As Platoon alluded to a bit, I feel like overall you'd all agree on what makes a given piece of media bad. I just imagine HFM does not like the strawman version of your audience they have created, as well as the fictitious versions of you all he's created in his head. I genuinely do not know how individuals like Organized Chaos can escape this criticism, whereas all these channels get it perpetually. Either way keep up the great work, always happy to see more vids from you all. I find your videos on storytelling quite motivating as someone who is very much enthralled with the craft. Still continuing to work on some video script ideas, and even took another crack at outlining a novel. Granted I am still nowhere near where I want to be before putting it out there.
He definitely removed the "wokebros" section AFTER the pushback. I watched it before the removal, and there were already hundreds of comments on the videos, many of which criticizing the bad take.
I tried watching a couple Hello Future Me videos about 4 years or so ago. I've also seen him on Overly Sarcastic Productions' stuff here and there. And after nearly cringing out of my skin each time, I've kind of avoided his content and anything to do with him. This kind of stuff from him doesn't surprise me, though.
I watched his video and got very annoyed when he started talking about you guys because everything sounded completely made up and he had no reason to include you in his narrative about the Blings of Powder. I was debating unsubscribing and now after hearing that he edited the video because of the backlash I'm absolutely done with him.
And I was already fed up with him after he made a plot armor video where he didn't say anything interesting about plot armor and just told his viewers if they want to hear anything interesting about plot armor, they have to pay for it on nebula.
I used to watch Hello Future Me. His video about how to write fight scenes I thought was particularly good. I unsubbed a couple years ago because I felt the quality of his work was degrading. It's sad to see him sink to the point of throwing baseless accusations at smaller creators like this.
He hasn’t apologized per se. He has played the mental health card as his explanation as to why he’s deleted his hypocritical/ignorant “exposition” of certain fellow YT-ers.
@AmeliaBodilla I genuinely hate folks who play the mental health card as a defense whenever they put out a bad take. Hello Future me should have known better, given his reach and just what he was doing. Nobody is free from criticism and considering like a coward, he tacked on that last bit towards the end of his ROP video instead of making a separate one; it shows how out of touch he is. So I have zero sympathy for him. His type always preach about doing better and collective responsibility. I say, look in a mirror. RandomFilmTalks has 40k subscribers. HFM video clearly will have left an impression on some never to check out his content. A shame, given, he's a fantastic content creator.

On the topic of EFAP getting left out, it reminds me of Fresh-and-Fit's beef with Aba and Preach. Preach makes fun of Fresh for being a boneheaded redpiller who can't even keep a girlfriend; Fresh gets super alpha-mad and challenges Aba and Preach to a fistfight. Aba says "Nah fuck that I'm not gonna bother with a response" but Preach accepts the challenge and is ready to actually punch Fresh IRL at a time and place. Fresh chickens out. Next thing you know, Fresh starts challenging Aba to a fight next time they make fun of him; but _no one_ says _anything_ about Preach, the guy who's still waiting on the last fight they promised. They go for people they think won't defend themselves. JackSaint and Taxxon tried to double-team MauLer and they got nothing on him, and everyone who does a discussion 1v1 with him ends up neutral. Of course the thought doesn't cross their mind that MauLer and the people like him are innocuous and apolitical; they would still go after him if they could; they just see him as an armadillo that won't be worth the inordinate effort needed to break him down; so they pick on smaller proxies instead.

If you want an actual channel that is dishonest, crap and tries to sell you propaganda watch Wisecrack.
I didn't mind Wisecrack back around 2014 and early 2015. However, once the election rhetoric started ramping up, they and some other channels become political commentary channels with a heavy bias. I tapped out and never looked back. It was like someone initiated the order 66 command.
I remember years back when Moviebob attacked similar content creators for the same thing, but instead of taking clips out of context, he quoted them and just slapped on made-up racist statements claiming that's what they are saying. EFAP covered it in one of their earliest episodes.
It is actually VERY interesting that he did not mention Mauler and/or EFAP. It is possible he elected to leave Mauler out to avoid EFAP panel from responding to his video. He might not be aware that EFAP has covered creators who have attacked individual channels that have been on EFAP in the past. They made a whole EFAP with YMS when he made a video/stream painting Drinker in a way he is not. Which always bugged me because YMS is friends with EFAP and should of know Mauler and Drinker work together. Seems strange to make the video he did instead of just asking Mauler if he could get in touch with Drinker for him. If Hello Future Me pals around with Organized Chaos then his woke bros stuff seems par for the course. Organized Chaos is bad faith incarnated as a person. Many of you probably know of his infamous response to Maulers Dr. Strange review. I am sure Wolf has the clip on the highlights channel, it is truly something to behold someone do. The purest essence of bad faith.
Has anyone considered that this was meant to be HFM’s Hbomberguy moment? A comprehesive take down of a problematic section of youtube. And the reason he has deleted that section wasn’t just the push back but the fact that it gained no traction among the wider audience. It didn’t become a “moment”.
I don’t know him that well personally, it seems to me the only reason HFM deleted that video is he was getting a massive amount of heat and pushback. It wasn’t because he was sorry based on the fact that he waited this long to release a ROP review and tried to delete the evidence in a reupload. I view this similar to the YMS “drama” to where he was clearly threatened by a new voice gaining more prominence than him while he is on the decline.
He said it was because he wasn't as kind about his criticism as he could have been and because of mental health stuff, both of which tracks with things he's said over the years, so I see no reason to disbelieve him.
@thelittleplatoon JSG is one of the biggest detractors of the Rings of Prime, and is openly against Guyladriel. The fact that HFM assumes from that how his politics align with Shad's or with Gary's is just a testament to how much he's out of his depth on the subject.
I have to say, I'd checked out from the quartering because I found him to be a bit the guy who cried woke, and the reason I got into "the woke Bros" is that I could actually relate to the critic because it was about pointing out what's bad about this revisionist entertainment while making it fun and entertaining. And I also love the fact that there is so much variety of opinions and different takes on the same issue instead of being an echo chamber. I'm counting on you for the acolyte 😂
RFT is top tier. I was one of his very early subscribers and I'm happy to see how his channel has grwon and progressed. Here's to hoping his channel will grow exponentially more.
I watched the video because I liked his videos and also RoP bashing is a lot of fun, but when he got to the RUclipsr bashing, I was not okay by that especially with Random. I did not like how he misconstrued Random so much and I had to stop watching. I didn’t follow him and I guess I won’t be following ever.
For many people, the notion of objective quality IS a right-wing talking point. It doesn't really matter if you're trying to be neutral if every traditional and normal concept is being continuously shoved rightward.
It also highlights the idea that they are so used to living in their bubble where everyone agrees, he just assumes that other people are the same way. Finds out that one of the people he criticises are part of a “protected group” and removes his video. It’s so transparent
I am a 27 year old man, I am not being manipulated and funneled toward anything. My political views have remained rather stable for the past decade, and agreeing with a movie critic about poorly implemented diversity pushes aren't likely to change it. I like my decades long lore to be well thought out if they decide to change things, and it damn sure better be well executed. I like new characters, not ones taking the mantle of established ones while making the legacy character completely inept. I like character arcs that aren't just the new one learning to accept they are inherently stronger and more virtuous than anyone who came before. If liking good storytelling that doesn't shit on the established worlds they have decided to take over makes me a nazi at least give me the dope ass uniform. I am so fucking sick of the left's holier than thou rhetoric about fucking everything, because odds are I would likely agree with alot of their points if they weren't constantly smug pricks about everything. In the grand timeline of human history I would probably have been considered radically left until like 2014 where the people I used to be on the same side as went off the rails. But back to the main topic at hand. It wasn't ever about media criticism, it never has been. If you genuinely believed these people were wrong, though this one seemed more designed to assure his audience he wasn't one of those evil guys, You would actually point out the flaws in those critic's reviews. They never do that because they don't have points to make about media as a piece of art. They are the kind of person that can only judge art on its ability to push their very specific worldview.
He _did_ point out the flaws in the reviews, and before you think about whether or not HFM can only judge based on pushing his worldview, I genuinely recommend watching his very nuanced video about ROP (or, if that's more your thing, about the Avatar live action film, or the more recent one about the series), you might enjoy it.
I went to his comment section and pointed out that I think just shattered the world record for most agrumentative fallacies ever in 5 minutes. Probably also the one largest amount of diffetent fallacies in a single argument. I started counting but it was pointless, we'd run out of numbers before he runs out of fallacies. He poisoned the well 3 times, made 5 of 6 strawmen, at least two Red Harrings, moved the goal posts and several No true Scottsman. This was just the first 5 or 10 minutes or so. I just asked him is he was aware of a single one he might have missed... Cuz I couldnt come up with one. I dont think he brought in Appeal To God. He DID Appeal To Authority tho, which is technically the same fallacy, just toba different degree. When I was doesn i took alot of prize and joy in reading his comment section. I probably read a hundred of them. Not single one that supported him, also not a single one tht *_didnt_* call him a pathetic hack, lier, indoctrinated m0r0n or some colorful variety similar messages.
It's sad to see HFM go down the same path as Nando V Movies. I watched Nando for years and while I suppose there were signs he was left-leaning, he generally kept his commentary apolotical. But in the last couple years, for some reason, he's suddenly decided he needs everyone to know he stands against what he calls the "chuds." Since then, he has had portions of a couple videos openly criticizing them in much the same way as HFM, and I think he's even avoiding giving negative coverage of anything because he associates negativity with the chuds now. Hello Future Me has similarly, as far as I've seen, never focused on sociopolitical issues before, aside from the occasional comment implying he might be left-leaning. Now he suddenly feels the need to denigrate the chuds? And over a show where he probably agrees with most of their criticisms? Why do they feel the need to establish teams? This just alienates part of their audience. Like you said, if you don't like the chuds, then just make better videos.
But with the regular bashing of "woke-ism", many other channels also don't keep their channels apolitical, also establish teams, and also aleniate part of their audience. Are your criticising them for those reasons too?
@@Casutama Lily Orchard, Pillar of Garbage, Organized Chaos and the other Fandom Initiative guys are all channels that have deliberately positioned themselves in opposition to a particular set of other RUclipsrs. They have dedicated videos, or portions of their videos to calling these other RUclipsrs out, not just as individuals but as a plague. Not just as bad reviewers, but as bigoted grifters. They are not subtle in doing this. Mjtanner, Shady Doorags, and Literature Devil are all anti-woke I believe. When issues of wokism come up in the media they are covering, they will address it. But unlike the channels from the previous paragraph, they never seem to be on a crusade against other RUclipsrs. There may be a group they tend to agree with, and another they tend to disagree with, but they are not concerned with where they stand between those groups. They focus on the media and what THEY think of it. There are others, like the EFAP hosts, who will often post or stream responses to creators they disagree with. They do this not to make an example of a perceived enemy, but to explain that they think the person made bad arguments. I don’t see them or any of their friends drawing a line between themselves and others and trying to tell me they’re on the good side. I don’t see them ascribing ill intent to people who disagree with them. EFAP has friends on both sides of the political spectrum, because they have never been concerned with what “team” anyone is on. TL;DR No, they are not the same. Anti-woke reviewers don’t concern themselves with teams, not the ones I’ve been watching. And there are left-wing reviewers who don’t either. I don’t have a problem with Nando or HFM having politically informed opinions. I just wish they would continue to express their honest opinions without comparing themselves to creators they don’t like. What I have a problem with is vilifying others to make yourself look good.
@@DuneStone6816 I don't watch any of these channels, so I can't say much about that, but consider this: You make a video going in-depth about what you think about a new show. This show has been heavily criticised by many online creators for many things, but a big focus of many people's critique was that it has, let's say terrible pacing. In your video you explain all of your own criticisms of the work, but seeing as the "terrible pacing" criticism, which you don't (fully) agree with is so widespread, you feel like you have to address it and say that you disagree with it, and why, and maybe also provide an explanation for why you think so many other creators _do_ have this criticism. On the other hand, the creators criticising the bad pacing might largely agree with your critique, so they don't have a need to put themselves in opposition to your video. If you and many other creators suddenly started making videos specifically _gushing about_ the pacing of the show, that might be different and they might make videos to disagree with your points. I'm not saying that's how all of these channels operate, or that that was exactly what was HFM's with his segment, because I can't know that, but at least I think there's a reasonable partial explanation for why the dynamics might be the way they are.
"Someone who doesn't watches his (HFM's) channel wouldn't expect it (the call out) to be in there." I don't actively watch his channel, but I do watch it every now and then... It's not what he usually does, of course he could've leaned towards it more as I haven't watched a lot of his channel recently, but it came as a surprise to me, someone who watches him.
I've been subscribed to Hello Future Me for years and have enjoyed his writing/worldbuilding advice and Tolkien videos. So, I was interested to see what he had to say about Rings of Power. I really thought he would be more than "disappointed" with it, seeing as he's a big Tolkien fan. But, I was completely sidetracked by the whole woke bros segment of his video, because as far as I remember, he's never been overly political in his other videos. But, on the positive side, I found Random Film Talk's channel via his response to HFM's video. And I then binged his ROP videos and thoroughly enjoyed them.
Well, if you don't like political media criticism, you shouldn't watch any channel that criticises "woke-ideology" and the like, because that is definitely political
I never said I didn't like watching anything political, I just wasn't expecting it in HFM's video, and especially not 1/3 of the video. I've been subscribed to his channel for years and didn't recall that in any of the videos of his that I've watched.
@@KellyBeam I think he commented on it because it was such a huge part of the criticisms aimed at ROP. The media HFM has reviewed in the past (which he doesn't do all that often) usually don't have this kind of "this is woke" backlash, and I can imagine that he felt annoyed that in many cases, that was the focal point of the criticism, because screaming "woke" in itself is a lazy critique. Of course some critics go much deeper than that anyway, but I've heard people say things like "I hope they won't make [some new show] woke and make everyone gay". If you're really just concerned with the writing quality, why not just say that? Because there's absolutely a way to write high-quality shows where everyone is gay.
The "wokeness" in the show is stupid from a purely worldbuilding perspective. Secretive, nomad hobbits who don't deal with anybody else yet they come in all shades. It would have made MORE sense if they were all darker skinned. Same thing with numenorians. One of the key features in most fantasy settings and ESPECIALLY Tolkien is that you can tell different groups apart by SIGHT ALONE. Arondir would have been fine, but why the fuck did they give him that hair cut when elves are all usually longhaired😅
That's what happens man. I've come to see that the whole paradigm has been flipped on its head and the right seem to be way more accommodating and tolerant than the left who preach about that stuff all the time, it's madness. Hope you find some new mates soon.
I enjoy all the "Woke Bros" content with a passion, that said a number of them do take turns bashing the blatant political messaging (justifiably so). However, having absorbed all their content it stood out to me that Random has the absolute LEAST amount out of any of them. Bordering on none at all. I respect wholeheartedly the reservation he shows in critiquing the media he does on its own merits honestly. He above any of them, in my opinion, gives Hollywood the most credit and leeway to tell their story how they want. And to that end, proves beyond a shadow of a doubt how outright crap they are at telling stories. While he does roll with the crowd that does bash woke crap, to include him in the list of people who do so proves HFM has not seen his content or is a bad faith actor.
I was a long time subscriber of HFM, back when he was doing How to Train Your Dragon stuff regularly. He was following a very structured approach to writing and it felt like I was getting lectured by an expert basically. Then, his opinion on Avatar Legend of Korra and other stuff later on made me realize he is pretty much woke and his professional opinion is shadowed by ideology. It is so sad to see someone you see as a mentor go down a road you cannot follow.
I've never watched any of your videos, and I was not aware of this drama. I have watched a couple HFM videos, but I will admit that at first I was shocked he said these things and then when I looked up his channel I was thinking of the wrong person lol But I really enjoyed this conversation and I will be checking out all of your channels, and have subbed to this one.
To be fair, AZ and Nerdrotic are probably the worst offenders of what HFM is talking about, but HFM made the mistake of casting too wide a net. He included people who aren't even guilty of criticizing "wokeness", and he also included people who are legitimately and overtly political like Matt Walsh. If he had focused on one or two channels, he might have been able to make a stronger point and not use the same tactics he accuses his enemies of using
When he used the clip from 12 Angry Men and put the Drinker's avatar over the one-note racist juror's face while the rest of the jury dramatically steps away and turns their backs to him. Then he put his own avatar on the one-note detail-oriented juror who tells the racist to "Sit down and don't speak again." Yeah, those particular choices really provided us a clear window into his self-aggrandizing delusions. He _wants_ to be that guy. He wants to have a real moment like that. And reality just won't cough up the kind of caricature that he needs in order to have a moment like that. So, he has to play make believe in front of a million(???) subscribers in order to kinda sorta live out that fantasy moment of a flawless victory due to complete moral supremacy.
Sorry for the double comment. But what you are describing really sounds very similar to what happened recently with "Never Knows Best" and his video accusing Bethesda youtubers of slander, lying and what have you. Basically, "Hello Future Me" and "Never Know's Best" could have the same intention behind their actions. Creating Drama with channels growing very fast at the moment to drive engagement. Maybe I'm reading too much into it here, but I believe both of these channels are basically dead and only have inactive subs, so acting this way makes kind of sense from their pov? Apparently this type of behavior is now a trend? What a weird world we live in, wow...
I don't know why you think HFM is basically dead? View counts and number of subscribers have been growing steadily, I think it's a decently healthy channel, and I genuinely don't think Tim would do that anyway.
And George the giant slayer praised him for not collecting money for i think either Netflix Avatar or prime rop "review"... To think he tossed him under the bus without even knowing anything about him ..
I find this whole conflict very interesting, because I’d consider myself pretty stubborn and maybe even narrow minded but folks like Echo Chamberlin, just some guy and Overly Sarcastic who I sometimes disagree with make good, funny content. I know there’s no real chance of me convincing them, so I just enjoy what they make and occasionally pray for them.
I love you Platoon, youre just flat out adversarial, almost antagonistic at times and in the lovely snooty way only British people can manage, its fakking glorious.
Quite some time ago (a year or two?) I was subscribed to Hello Future Me, but he got increasingly condescending and pretentious in the way he'd talk and started to annoy me, so I unsubscribed. 😋 The thing is, anyone listening to you guys for any length of time can see you are not as advertised/criticised by these other RUclipsrs. I'm not sure why they want to attack other channels. It doesn't come across as professional and is very off putting. But I think if he named you in such an unprofessional manner, it deserves a response. It is interesting to me that my previous impression of this guy has now been completely vindicated by his actions.
Maybe HFM just wanted to make a video about RoP and how awfull it is. And then he assumed that he could be canceled by the woke crowd for not being a good Ally in RUclips. Consequently, he tried to seperate himself from the "bad RUclipsrs" who made some Anti-Woke comments in their Reviews about RoP. However, he did not much work on this topic as he even put "Just some Guy" into the " Bin of Rightwingers". HFM stupid take gives me some "Rewriting Ripley" vibes.
I've gotten so many good recommendations from people like Drinker. Who does this future me guy expect me to watch? The liars who shilled rings of power?
For the record, all of the very much left-leaning media criticism channels I watch were very critical of ROP and very sceptical beforehand, so if your requirement is "no channel that liked ROP", that gives you lots of options of every imagineably level of integrity and political viewpoint
This guy seems to have ridden the "game of thrones hype" around S7 (2017) I think was the first video youtube served me of his... and subsequent "let's fanfic ourselves a better ending, than what we got" timeframe back in the day. I think that is where most of his subs came from. Pretty similar to others, at the time, but most of them vanished as quickly as they came to prominence. I haven't watched or heard of the dude for years at this point.
It’s frustrating when the more (previously to my knowledge) apolitical, culture war unengaged channels I do hear decent analysis and writing commentary from decide to get involved and make a fool of themselves. I saw a little of the video in question but didn’t reach the part I will apparently never hear. He’s not a complete imbecile with no understanding of storytelling (I like his book on world building) so it’s sad he would drink the Kool-Aid
HFM has never even pretended to be apolitical. Not all of his videos are extremely political, but I think it's always been clear that he's left-leaning. I don't think he engages with the culture war though; that's what he criticised these channels for after all.
Nothing is more radicalizing than Little Platoons vaguely classical liberal well thought out film reviews.
And a pipeline to Andrew Tate, which must have made LP spill his drink.
Right? How dare he have such a way with words and a nuanced take on media?
Educated and well thought out is very radical for this day and age.
He's not a classical liberal he keeps dishing out fascist views non-stop
He managed to make Madame Web about .... "communism"?? HUH???
I love little platoons dry humor
I found it very odd that HFM didn't include MauLer/EFAP in this and I wonder if he didn't want to include them because he thought that they would respond but none of the others would.
Someone reminded me that they responded to one of his vids before.
Don't mess with EFAP
That one is a bit of a head scratcher. It's not like the EFAP crew didn't have a go at Rings of Power. They made a series of long videos critiquing ROP, all of them getting 100-200+ thousand views even though they're around 6 to 11 hours long. Platoon of the "woke bros" also joined them in those videos. So how in the hell did HFM not even mention EFAP? I very much doubt that he's not aware of them. The only reason that makes sense is that he deliberately decided not to acknowledge them for whatever reason.
It's especially weird given how 90% of the channels he discussed were members of EFAP.
Right on, Sir... Right on
Fringy isn’t black. He’s green.
@acedetective7280 he identifies as black.
Rags is the worst. He brings nothing to the line up beyond being gay. Always wondered how he gets on.

The whole thing felt really disingenuous, like he was trying to take cheap shots at channels he sees as competition.
This is all okay, of course, because she's a leftist and not a "right wing extremist."
It's a perfect example of what they talked about in the video- "What we do is heroic activism, what they do is political grifting." Creating an echo chamber and radicalizing your audience is only evil if you're on the wrong side of the political spectrum. Otherwise, you're just "educating your audience."
Holy shit and he had the gall to call the “woke broes” a right wing pipe line XP
What bugs me is that, as someone with a large channel, who specialises in Fantasy writing, HFM could have been a really powerful voice in criticising Hollywood's abysmal attempts at fantasy from a left-wing perspective.
i,e.: The Witcher could have been great representation for Slavic actors + culture
The Wheel of time could have shown how racial profiling is generally a bad thing (like it does in the books).
etc
Regarding his response to the comments (about mental health and masculinity), I'd point him straight towards Greg Owen, Master Samwise and Pilgrim's Pass, all of who openly champion positive masculinity

Well said. 👏
And yet you're on a video about people getting triggered about the right-wing pundit echochamber being pointed out.
@@MagcargoMan calling out specific creators is a different beast than just discussing the ideas... especially when he largely agreed with them. They had a lot of common ground on this subject, and I thought Hello Future Me would have appreciated that. People of all political alignments can make reasonable points.
Seems like HelloFutureMe really said "Goodbye Past Me"
I just love how demeaning and dismissive HFM was, intentionally or not, toward these other RUclipsr's audience, regarding them as vulnerable young men who are being manipulated. I'm many things, but young isn't one of them!
And in my case a man isn't either.
"Lonely/vulnerable men" is how they use pity to demean a group of people to the point that they can step in as the saviors and "protect" them via indoctrination. HFM is duping himself into being one of these saviors. It reeks of snobbery, and you both are examples of why it's nothing but pure hubris.
I still consider myself young, but in reality I am far from it. Nor am I that naive.
@@Casutama Nah, I'll pass. I have other sources for both tv/movies critique and writing advice that don't irk me.

Great seeing Random Film Talk on here with you guys. I was hoping you all knew each other. Love the work you guys put out. Always thoughtful, insightful and often hilarious.
But for this tempest in a tea pot, Hello Future Me was unknown to me. I believe he may have succumbed to the “burn the witch” bandwagon and named and shamed without doing his due diligence. Shame on him and anyone who helped him with the tar and feathers.
Just read the (now deleted) comment he left. Platoon is an absolute legend for that 😂

It feels like HFM was trying to coin “Woke Bros” because he’s jealous of Gary’s “M She U” nickname taking off
Sounds like that South Park episode where Randy becomes a "N_word Guy"
The problem with that is Gary’s M-She-U comment is true because it’s an accurate way of describing the current state of Marvel.
Whereless, HFM’s “Woke Bro” comment is a lie because your average viewer would think “these are people who promote woke values”.
@@NathanCassidy721 yeah, "woke bros" would be a better name for a group of breadtubers
Woke Bros is a complete inversion of what the term would mean. HBomber and HelloFutureMe and other cucks are what that is. But cuck is just an allround better word.
Wait was this why I suddenly got recommended his ROP video a couple days ago?😂 Audience overlap
I had only gotten to the hour mark so I had no idea all this went down
It's worth noting that he posted one of the best takedowns on RUclips of why the Wheel of Prime was bad, and although he included the usual handwavey "other people online are criticizing it for the wrong reasons, but it's still bad" shibboleth that people in his corner of the internet are required to include when they're actually being honest about bad media, I feel like he suffered a lot of pushback against that video, and resented the fact that other, less desirable detractors of the show were using his video as evidence in Reddit debates. He probably overcompensated with the Shibboleth this time.
youre right
Why would they be "required" to include that?
It's probably because OC isn't worth the finger strength to criticize.
The "Woke Bros", "The Fandom Menace", and the "Hatemongers of the Toxic Brood" Unite to destroy stupid youtubers.
He kept using “these people” and “media literacy” like bro curb your elitism

All of them talk like that. Little Platoon literally does this in this very own comment section to a commenter he got triggered by.
@@David_the_Psalmist Yeah. He's getting to a point where is five shitty videos for each decent one. 😂

Me: "Have you ever heard of a breadtuber or are they fine since they probably align with you politically?"
Its like this guy saw what in praise of shadows did, and the aftermath of all that, and said "Lord.....why cant that be me?" Lol.
Or the reverse.
He wrote why he deleted it, he vaguely admitted he was being a cunt
The reason why he called it the "woke bros" is that he knows the tide has shifted, so he's using that title as click-bait.
Of all the people to accuse of having subtext in their videos.......
HelloFutureMe is a prime example of someone making Lindsey Ellis their entire personality.
HFM has made good videos in the past, I'm sad to see him go down this path.
@thelittleplatoon JSG is one of the biggest detractors of the Rings of Prime, and is openly against Guyladriel. The fact that HFM assumes from that how his politics align with Shad's or with Gary's is just a testament to how much he's out of his depth on the subject.
Wait wwwhhaaaatttt? He deleted the second half of the video!?
Glad I saw it before it got memory hole'd.
Random Film Talk and the Little Platoon is the chat bromance of the new Millennium!
For many people, the notion of objective quality IS a right-wing talking point. It doesn't really matter if you're trying to be neutral if every traditional and normal concept is being continuously shoved rightward.
Yes, but something only a crazy leftist could believe in a world where everything is sliding to the left.
That guy is a hypocrite and his video is a bait and switch. Rather than doing a good ROP critique, he actually went his way to attack other youtubers.

Omgosh Little Platoon and Random Film Talk together! Wow
Unsubbed to him after learning of this issue.
Genuinely a conversation between you guys and Tim would be great.
I just got ostracized from my whole liberal group of friends for questioning the trajectory of the party. So tolerant.
It’s hilarious that these people literally talk about anything else but respond to what yall “wokebros” are actually saying about the product.
Y’all are hilarious! 😂 god bless keep up the good work.
Damn after that little comment, now I really want to see Platoon review V for Vendetta
If he had focused on one or two channels, he might have been able to make a stronger point and not use the same tactics he accuses his enemies of using
Yeah, but then his whole point was precisely to say there's a huge chunk of YT that's a problem and a threat to young men's very minds.
You know it was kind of nice of him to list all the best channels to go watch
What a line to end on. Perfection! 😂
what was platoon's deleted snarky comment in the woke bros video?
It’s on his twitter as a screenshot
Does BSUP have a regular schedule or is it just whimsy? I'd like to put it on my calendar but the day of the week seems to change
It’s usually on a Monday night, but it isn’t set in stone as far as I know.
I used to watch hello future baldness….i don’t particularly enjoy doing that anymore.
And George the giant slayer praised him for not collecting money for i think either Netflix Avatar or prime rop "review"... To think he tossed him under the bus without even knowing anything about him ..
You guys are all fantastic. The way "Hello Future" painted you, was not an accurate depiction AT ALL. Keep rocking your videos. Cheers.
Exactly. I like Overly Sarcastic a lot, even though I disagree with them a lot. I _live_ for Red's Journey to the West series.
Fkn yaay, Finally I can just subscribe to this channel and find all the episodes.
I love you Platoon, youre just flat out adversarial, almost antagonistic at times and in the lovely snooty way only British people can manage, its fakking glorious.
Excellent response 👏
Quite some time ago (a year or two?) I was subscribed to Hello Future Me, but he got increasingly condescending and pretentious in the way he'd talk and started to annoy me, so I unsubscribed. 😋
The thing is, anyone listening to you guys for any length of time can see you are not as advertised/criticised by these other RUclipsrs. I'm not sure why they want to attack other channels. It doesn't come across as professional and is very off putting. But I think if he named you in such an unprofessional manner, it deserves a response. It is interesting to me that my previous impression of this guy has now been completely vindicated by his actions.
16:16 Pipelines to a hard boiled egg 😂
remember when shad and hello future me collabed?
HFM is a backstabber.
Iv followed HFM's writing stuff for years and i completely miss him being so bad faith
That was so much fun live, great clip
Keep up the fight against our wokest overlords and maintain debate integrity my dudes!
Love Random Film Talk!
