The animation of Arcane is still beautiful. However, I'm tired of the music videos. The characters have changed from S1 and then change often in each episode of S2. I feel they condensed to many seasons into S2 because the writers (ect) want to overcome onto other projects. It's sad.
I've looked up the writing staff of both season 1 and season 2. And based on the imdb information, two of the writers of my favourite episodes in Arcane season 1 ( epi 01,03,09 ) aren't participating anymore ( Ash Brannon and Conor Sheehy )
Episode 1 and 3 are personal favourites of mine. 1 made me fall in love with that world while 3 had some of the most powerful and emotional moments. If these two wrote an entire third of the previous season, then their absence is sorely missed.
I echo most of what the panel had to say about Arcane S2, but I would like to point out the one scene that made me lose my shit and essentially give up on this entire season: Vi tailing Singed outside of Victor's settlement (I almost wrote 'Hippie rehabilitation center') only to be caught and jumped over by Caitlin. Not only is it a lame reunion for the show's power couple of sorts, but isn't Caitlin supposed to be the head of Pilltover, if in name only?? What would she be doing working as a mere sentinel on the outskirts of her plan?? This season feels so rushed as to make you think they didn't bother rewriting their first draft... It's such a shame that the writing would be so amateurish when the animation is still so gorgeous :(
And Vi and Caitlin make up within minutes of talking, even though they should have VERY deep beef now, given both their actions (Vi working with Jinx, Caitlin gassing and "oppressing" (can't think of a better word) Zaun). I got massive shellshock when the final scene of Act 2 had Jinx and Caitlin just standing around together. So, Caitlin is just fine with that? I was wondering whether I missed a scene or something.
Nietzsche didn’t get run over by a horse and die. The anekdote is just that he saw a horse being hurt by its owner and he ran to the horse, and hugged the horse crying. After that he lived for years, but syfilis destroyed his mind and he ended up in a wheelchair until some years later he died. Whether the horse anekdote even actually happened or not and is an urban legend is still debated🍻
1:03:57 it is worse with Game of Thrones than you think. Not only was it a decade. Not only did people change. Not only did people get married and have children. They named their children Khaleesi.
I wish people would quit being conned by Ridley Scott. Whoopi’s he directed Alien. Well, Dan O Bannon wrote Alien AND Total Recall. Where was his “people gave him truck loads of movie to produce/direct/write” total shitte?
Unfortunately Scott was at the tail end of “director’s films” era of the 1970’s where it seemed like the director and director alone was the sole auteur, when in fact they all had help at many stages of production.
The very ending of episode 6 when I didn’t feel a thing absolutely confirmed that this writing quality has nothing to do with the quality of the first season. I know that that was supposed to be an emotional scene, but I felt absolutely nothing. The animation here is also praised but I think that’s a huge stepback too. The action scenes are way too fast, flashy, and there are just too many over stylized music video switches. I am very sad about this show.
I’d be surprised if wicked doesn’t destroy at the box office. You underestimate the amount of ppl who love that play. It’s all my wife talks about going to see and we’ve already seen the live version.
My prediction is that Wicked will make a good amount of money. Grace Randolph is more representative that anyone wants to admit. The millenial female demographic is usually shockingly undiscerning with their media. Assuming of course that the movie isn't somehow actually good.
Syphilis bacteria may just be congenital to the human population as a whole, in the same way herpetic viruses are. All populations may have had it in some form.
Second season has all the ambition and goodish plot but not enough talent to make it work I mean we need the kid to have 3 gems in the final so Vi just drops her gauntlets at the entrance
I dunno, Platoon is probably the best-equipped guy on the platform to interpret it correctly because he has a classical education (instead of being a reddit scifi filmbro or a gender studies weeaboo) but I'd be really pissed if he came out of it with generic movie essay takes about transhumanism and existentialism and all that junk. He probably understands the more high-brow references that go into it, but you can't take that film at face value, there's a bunch of homework involved, you gotta be familiar with Oshii's bag of tricks and know the manga (and its many spinoffs) well enough to spot everything that was changed or removed from the original story. He already spent like 2 years working on that Dune review, he can't just whip reviews out of his ass. I mean, he can when it's something like Madame Web, but this isn't something like Madame Web.

Shared universe is not the problem. How many different stories did Tolkien include within the greater world of Middle-Earth? It's bad writers, not a problem with the concept.
Yal honestly gave more fair justice to ArcaneS2 so far. I know the show is flawed but its not as bad as others r making sound. Like the latest EFAP breakdown on Act1
Efap was misery porn. Mauler gets lost in his own arguments and rags just never gave a shit. Arcane still has cool things in it, but the meat is not there anymore
It's worse. The only people that like it are either those who likes anything, or the lore geeks that thinks having easter eggs all over the show makes a good story, ie Necrit.
@mstrikerwildrift What ddnt you like that's making it "worse"? Besides the rushed scenes & forgotten plots & forced character inserts. I have couple more but I'll hold on those jzt to see if ur catching on onto the flaws. Overall, my points are minor, or rather not a BIG deal like the rest of others r making out to be.

Arcane season 1 is on an excellent level of quality in comparison to most shows we get these days. Season 2 is on a level of quality which makes it easily confused with most of them. That's the difference. I watched season one about a year after all the hype had died down, as the hype annoyed me at the time and I mainly wanted everyone to shut up. I was pleasantly surprised that it largely lived up to the glowing reviews. Not without its own issues, of course. I thought the shoe-horned brothel scene was forced and made little to no sense, mainly just being there for fan-service which is, y'know, whatever. I didn't think any of the race-swapping was particularly necessary but, again, whatever. I don't have a problem with strong female characters- particularly since Jinx and Vi, both powerhouses in their own way, are nevertheless masterclasses in how to make a character compelling and badass, yet flawed. On the other hand, they were definitely trying to push a bit of "social progress" with the sheer amount of powerful women on the city council, the strong general lady from noxus, having Cait's mom be the crack markswoman while her dad is more on the domestic side- none of it is a big deal, but what they're doing ain't exactly subtle either. Still, despite a few instances of plot armor and some contrivances, I'd be comfortable calling the first season a masterpiece. So many elements came together between the art direction, the music choices, the dialogue, and the writing. Unfortunately season 2 seems to think that it can get by on just the pretty visuals and killer soundtrack, and who really cares about the story and dialogue. Which, uh. Weird choice, that.
When Season 1 came out, it wasn't a case of, "Well, at least it's better than 'X'". I think the vast majority of people who loved it still stand by their initial feelings. Why do you dislike it, and why do you think it's overrated?
@@seancallaway5204 Not comparing it to anything, at the release time i really enjoyed the 3 first episodes. Arcane was supposed to be more than two seasons. Due to high cost producers likely decided to try to fit many seasons into one.

He had the nerve to release Alien Covenant. F- that movie.
Director has usually been more important to producers than the writer. Also, most of the blame for a bad movie goes to Director over writer.
Scott also directed Blade Runner.
So you guys are all saying his best work was at least 20 years ago?

That’s an exaggeration. Joker 2 actively shits on its audience for liking Joker. Arcane S2 has it problems but it isn’t as bad as that.
Nowhere near that bad.
