Do you know...this is a BRILLIANT question. Accountants in practice/the profession help advise companies on the best way to grow/manage/sell their business via expert interpretation of financial data...often from inside the co, but sometimes they generate it themselves for the client. Tax, payroll, insolvency etc are areas they cover that 'in house' accounts often don't. In house accountants, bookkeepers, financial controllers etc look after the day to day running of all things money related
Hi there, your A levels are very appropriate, well done...you do not need to do an accounts related degree at Uni, although it might help...economics, business & management related degrees are very good choices. Look on the ACA or ACCA websites for access to the profession...good luck & well done. Graham
Such as paying bills, dealing with cash flow forecasts, balancing the bank accounts, invoicing, collecting cash/money etc etc. All roles are unique but accounts functions especially...does this help? Graham
I have been trying to get into accountancy and I have applied for jobs for about 9 months but to no avail. I got 3 exemptions from CIMA, I did plenty of internships and voluntary work as well as temping but employers have not been interested and they do not seem very impressed by my CV. I have considered getting into another career but don't know which one. The UK job market is not a nice place right now.
I'm leaving school soon, looking at A Levels and then where to go from there. I'm almost certain that I want to be an accountant, what A levels should I take and where should I go from there?
Is a level RS,Maths good and I don’t know if I should pick economics or business for this accounting degree at uni. Also what is the pathway to become a CHarted accounted in the Ik and what’s the entry level salary for a accountant?? Sorry for so many questions x
This is for you Andrew & Tony...you really do need A level maths to go on to Uni & study a related degree in accountancy or business & accounting...or GCSE maths & do a relevant BTEC...research AAT, CIMA, ACCA, ACA qualifications. There are LOTS of ways of approaching the profession...do a basic bookking course and get some relevant work experience..either with an accountancy firm or within an accounts dept. of a firm. Hone your data entry & mental arithmetic skills. Read Accountancy Age
Hi there. Well I am confused! are you hoping to work or study during the summer break? Anyway...plan ahead, apply NOW for summer 2014! Seriously...apply to KPMG, PWC, Deloitte etc BUT also local independent accountancy firms in your area..ok? email me direct for MORE advice, ok
2nd part of message - I don't hold a degree and would like to work toward a higher Qualification. Please could you advise on this matter if possible as I am having a seriously hard time figuring out what to do. Thank you kindly Greg
Though many of these individuals are already good with their finances prior to working as an accountant or CPA, a perk of the job is gaining even more financial knowledge, which can help accountants and CPAs with personal financial matters.
Thanks a million. You've helped me a great deal, was unsure what career to pursue after uni, was thinking along the lines of accountancy but was unsure, but after watching this i'm positive that is what I wanna do. Thanks.
I have an degree in bachelor of business in accountancy. Do I go really need to go to audit route first ? Or I can start as AR/AP in a corporate company ?
Nice information but the interviewer Mr. Williams spoke too low in ocassions so it was diffficult keeping up with him. Also, how much is what you can earn 12,000 pounds is changed into dollars?
Hello, I am looking for work experience in financial accounting or internal auditing. What advice would you give to obtain successful intern-ship for students who are studying during summer break? Kind regards, Agnieszka
Yo boss, I'm going to college but I don't know what courses to pick to become an accountant. But I have narrowed it down to 5: 1)Accountancy 2)Maths 3)Finance 4)Economics 5)Further mathematics Any good? I need to drop one of them by the way!
I have a bachelor degree in accounting and one year experience in accounts payable only. What job position should I look for next to become an accountant and not a clerk?
Dear Sir, I am 34 years old with an Administration background. I am quite interested in Accountancy but I have slight doubts on whether it is a career that I wont find extremely boring. Im looking for a career with potentially more prospects and am considering accounting. Can you please advise me on how I could figure out whether it is for me - as theorizing is just running me in circles. My other consideration is Marketing.
High school Accounting may help but it is not compulsory for University entrance, only thing you have to do is to get at least 60% in pure mathematics (not mathematical literacy), and you must have 33 points excluding Life Orientation, but the entrance requirements different from university to university, these I stated here are valid in UKZN
Accountant jobs are the mean job type that brings on Dementia .A friend of mine worked in a dementia unit and most of the old people there had accountant jobs when they were young . I think this type of work really stresses the brain out .
There IS a correlation between high stress positions and dementia, but that does not mean that a low stress position will ensure that you ESCAPE this dreadful disease.
It depends on where you work. I used to work at macdonnalds and the managers there just made me do other people's jobs for them while letting lazy people get away with doing nothing. It wasn't particularly stressful for me, but I left because it was pissing me off. Those lazy people really enjoyed it there until I left and they were confused and lost on what to do when the managers pushed jobs onto them more. After that they hated working there and felt very stressed out all of a sudden. Gee I wonder why... If your employer puts too much work on you then yeh, you'll end up overworked and stressed. But if you can do the job well and handle it with little pressure then it won't really effect you that much. Everybody's different.
You can be an accountant with a 2.0 gpa. Sometimes you can tell. cpa are not as good. Be very careful who you choose, they can destroy you, as an individual or company.
Greg, hook up with me via email, and we'll have a more detailed discussion, ok? Accountancy Marketing...so very different! help at the recruitment guy dot com

cicci uzzu , make course of AAT level 3, which is the most required and requested in The UK and be sure you'll find a job.
Very good video, good knowledge on how to get started. Thank you

Attention to detail is key for an accountant.

what do accountants actually do? That may sound a bit stupid I know, but everybody talks about 'managing accounts'. What does this actually mean?
Thank you
