I personally choose accounting as my profession and I have been learning it for the past 4 semesters (2 years) for the purpose of earning a degree in this field of discipline and eventually earn professional license through taking the national CPA board examination in the country (Philippines), and it was really challenging and requires great hard work and patience, but I have seen myself grow, but there are also times when I doubt myself if this is truly for me, if this is what I really want.. Hello James. I would like to say a big thank you for uploading these videos on RUclips. I have finished my ACCA studies and currently aiming to pursue a career in audit field to work my way to become an ACCA member. I had to take a break after graduation due to mental health and depression after my father passed away during my studies. Your videos have helped me refresh my knowledge and find confidence in pursuing a career as an auditor. Thanks again.
This is one of the first accounting videos I have watched and it has been a great one to say the least, very well put together! I am looking to study accounting after being out of high school for 4 years. Well done and keep up the great work!
I’m not in the accountancy industry at the moment but I really enjoyed the learning and progression as I have been top notch at maths and it’s something that I enjoy when you enjoy something you tend to put more hours in the learning which is always great
I really needed to hear this, and I’m glad that I stumbled across this video! I’m starting as an Audit trainee soon at a pretty large firm, and although it was difficult to get the position I find myself still worrying about whether I’ve made the right decision. I’m glad to find someone who’s more upbeat about accounting, and your point about it being your rock so that you can take a risk is very relevant to me. Especially with the current climate, I think people are beginning to value job stability more! Thank you!
dude, your videos are probably the best accounting videos out there. im only now finishing up my AAS in accounting, and now im thinking about applying to a university and get my bachelors
I was working two jobs one a house keeping/care giver job and the other part-time at a bakery. I also had to make the decision to homeschool my daughter during the COVID-19 situation, for this year as of right now. I enrolled at college before I had made the decision to homeschool her. Decided to go back to college (online this time) and get my Bachelor’s in Accounting. I want to have financial stability. I have always been a physically hard worker, now I want to use my brain to make more money instead of my body. I feel a bit overwhelmed as classes start in 6 days. I hope I am smart enough to get through it and make a better life for my daughter and myself. Your videos are absolutely wonderful and will be very helpful in the near future. Thank you for your hard work in creating them.
@@royharper2003Two thirds of all accounting majors NEVER get their CPA. Only 1/3 of all accountants are CPAs. You don not have to be a CPA. If you can that's great. But it takes 1-2 years, thousands of dollars on study materials, 1-2 years of work experience, permanent ongoing educational requirements, and 150 credits. The biggest misconception in accounting is that it's drilled into you that you have to work for the big 4 and you have to get a CPA. Just not true.
@@witnesstothestupid I'm curious, are you an accountant or do you work in the accounting field? Where is your data on potential earnings of accountants with their CPA and accountants without their CPA? Where is it said that CPAs have to work in Public Accounting? In private industry, corporate America and governmental accounting, persons with their CPA can get promotions and positions that persons without their CPA simply cannot. I've seen it too many times to count. Certain positions, such as CFO, require a CPA because they have to sign off on their financial statements. I've been an auditor/accountant/CPA for 28 years and I've never worked for a CPA firm. A person with only an accounting degree will, most likely, hit a ceiling in their career that persons with their CPA or other licenses (CIA, CMA, etc.) can climb past. Of course, you don't have to get your CPA or any other further education which takes more time and money. However, doing so will more than likely only help your level of success and earnings in the field. You're complaining about CPEs? Are you serious? Attorneys have to maintain CPEs so are you saying that's a reason not to become an attorney?
Hey man, just want to say your positivity is infectious. Recently left a job I wasn't happy at and I'm almost certain I'm going to pursue a career change into accounting. There's so many positives to the field that you don't hear people talking about online, it's mostly negativity. The spiritual aspect to accounting you talk about 100% resonates with me. It seems like a beautiful career path to me and this video helped ground me by reminding me that I'm not alone for being drawn to accounting. It's not for everyone obviously and I know there's going to be lows, but my gut tells me my brain and personality are that of an accountant and I'm excited about what the future holds. I know I'll come back to this video at some point again during my studies to remind myself that attitude and ability to think long term are everything with this career path, but also in life. Much love man

Starting this channel was an excellent idea in my opinion. I think you do an excellent job breaking down concepts in a clear and engaging way. So glad I found it!
Good video, I liked the part at the end about taking risky ventures. It's true that accounting is one of the more stable business professions, so it does draw more risk adverse individuals. However the reality is accountants are business men and women, so taking risks is still necessary to go far. It's through risk taking I was finally able to break out of unemployment and land a tax position with a middle market accounting firm. In order to get hired I agreed to work in Boise Idaho instead of my home city of Los Angeles, I will relocate after COVID. A scary venture but also an entrepreneurial one, given the booming nature of Boise.
Honestly, thank you. I watched another persons "What I wish I knew before I Got Into Accounting" and she really scared me. I actually started to freak out about this choice. I'm older and like you, have tossed around ideas on what I should do with my life for so long that I just picked something to benefit my current company and my own understanding of finances so that I can make better choices... You just gave me hope and relit the fire in me.
Hey dude, I wanna send a big thanks to you. I have an idea of moving to Canada this morning to change my living environment. This is a very big plan taking several years of experience because I am still studying and applying for some accounting positions. But ya know, as you refer " accounting profession is a rock". Your video is cool. Thanks a tonnnn.
In Chinese, we called "the rock" as "steel rice bowl" due to clay made can be break easily. Fruther elaborate as, when it comes to laying off employees, the first one asks to go when the Co is not doing well is from the operations, such as the engineers, chefs and etc. It makes sense because operation made up the revenue for production of goods and services. There is production but no sales, thus unable to cover their labour costs. Especially now, we are facing a huge pandemic crisis, the economy goes into recession/slow down. I'm seeing my peers graduating with no job offers from other fields such as architecture and graphic design. Accounting wise, corporations still have to generate financial statements required by accounting standard, audit, tax filing, listing compliances and etc. Accountants are necessary cost centres as the Co will be going concern. A great video, really enjoyed it.
Thanks for your insights! I'm sorry to hear that some of your friends are graduating without any job offers. I hope things take a turn for the better soon. Stay safe!

Hi James!! Best accounting/ bookkeeper video!! I work as an account assistant/ bookkeeper & I hope to move out of the UK to work in finance from home with the experience I have 😙 stay blessed ❤
Man, you have some great video editing skills! Great video. Question: do you have to be a Certified accountant to work for a firm or can you also be self-taught? How is the pay in the UK for an accountant? any specific accounting software you'd recommend? courses/books? Eager to hear from you. Tks!
Hey Gregory, to work as a Financial Accountant you don't have to be Certified. However having some formal training will make job applications much easier. Pay depends on where you live, the industry you are in what role you have. Accountants can get anything from 20,000 GBP to 100k + (for CFO's and Audit Partners). I recommend reading the 'Accounting Game' for anyone starting out. All the best!
I think being an accountant would be good for me. I have OCD so I naturally am drawn to making things efficient. I am very good at math and it doesn't bore me too much. And I love working with money and percentages.
Hmmm... I feel like bookkeeping is already becoming automised. But there will always need to be someone who's in control of the software, and who can interpret the information that it spits out. That's when accountants come in
16ty32456t rr46435t33t may I add that interpreting tax code isn’t something that can be automated. It’s extremely complex and constantly changing. Will attorneys be automated too?
Hey i’m a high school student and your video gave me some hope that accounting is a solid direction but my main thing is does this practice make you happier in life?
That is a tough question. I don't think happiness is determined solely by your career. That being said, it's really what you make of it. You can have massively different experiences doing the exact same job at different companies. The challenge is to find a role that suits you and the lifestyle you want to live. You might not find it first time. But as time passes you can switch positions and companies until you find something that works for you. Hope that helps

Well your talks and your channel made me to put in my consideration to take accounting course after completing the medicine 5 years in pharmacy department
Update: Now I'm in my final year of Marketing degree, I didn't choose accounting because its too hard and boring but I admit, sometimes boring work is more doable like 3:44 repetitive work feels like a routine and I'm not saying accounting is easy but I think studying accounting is hard, once you learn it you will do it every single day which will become easy. In marketing, everyday is different, no work is same, no project resembles the old one which is exciting but hard too! You've to come with new and out of the box ideas every single time!
I have been in the industry for 10 years....the last 6 years as an auditor at a Big 4 public accounting firm and now currently 4 years and counting in the commercial private industry....honestly after watching your video, i believe now that accounting profession is always needed in any kind of organization. Honestly I always want to be an engineer at the first place because it seems so cool but becoming an accountant is cool too...
Hello everyone! Here's my turbulent story about how I got into all that :)) I majored in Humanities, and all my life I thought I was going to work with texts and people. But then I discovered I do not like to write commercial text (SMM, content management, marketing) at all, and I would prefer a job where I have clear tasks. Yes, stressful at times maybe, but at least clear and straightforward (to release my creative side, I have my hobbies :)). Recently I got curious about IT stuff, had a few career consultations, and considered system analysis and data analysis. Free courses allowed me to get a taste of what it's like to work with numbers and spreadsheets. Surprisingly, I discovered that it felt so calm and clear (compared to everything related to marketing and journalism, - many of my ex-groupmates work in those spheres, but I guess I have a different type of personality.) Also, I think accounting as an area has been there for much longer than that whole IT stuff, and I’m not sure I would take my chances with the latter. And, as someone has already pointed out, there are many various firms, companies, and corporations that need accountants, so it doesn’t necessarily have to be an IT one, you’re not limiting yourself in such terms. I know that in my city, Big4 offers summer internships (I even have a friend who took one and then worked there for 7 years), and my current plan is to learn everything I can about accounting and then apply for the internship. I didn’t have good Maths teachers at school, so I never really had a chance to get interested in all that. I guess I have a lot to catch up on there :) The months of internship are going to be really hard money-wise (because these internships are either unpaid or very low-paid), but if I get a job offer after I complete the program, I hope it will become easier.
Your videos are so helpful, thank you so much! I’m currently majoring in accounting at university and your videos have helped me in my introduction to financial accounting class, so thanks so much!

Thank you!
Congrats with landing your job in Audit! I was an Auditor for 3 years. It was hard work but I learnt a lot. Best of luck with it all!
IT's been almost a year! any updates as an auditor
How is it so far
You made me emotional at the end of the video 😭 I believe your channel will grow more and more as you deserve it 💜
Thanks, I appreciate your support!
Why am I watching this? I have been a CPA for 10 years.
Do you like it?
Do you recommend it?
Woaah! Congrats Sir!

Nice one!
dude, your videos are probably the best accounting videos out there. im only now finishing up my AAS in accounting, and now im thinking about applying to a university and get my bachelors
Thanks Luis! Great to hear that you're pursuing accounting. Hope your studies are going well :)
Accounting is my dream subject & I wanna be an Accountant in future.🙂 Your videos are the best in RUclips.
Great to hear that you're interested in Accounting!!
Thanks for the feedback, really appreciate it and I hope my interest for accounting increases as the course develops throughout the next three years
No worries, I hope so too!
Hey Jessica, it sounds like you've been hit hard by COVID-19. I hope you enjoy your course, I'm sure you'll do great! Best of luck with it all
@Jessica I would advise getting your CPA because these days it is so competitive and your CPA will also open doors that a bachelors cannot.
Attorneys have to maintain CPEs so are you saying that's a reason not to become an attorney?
dude your DEALER accronym helped me thru my core accounting classes. one more semester to go
Nice one, best of luck with your final semester!
Much love man
Best of luck with your career change! I wish you great success :)

It's one day I was watching RUclips and one of your videos appears, I had no idea why because I didn't watch any accounting videos on RUclips before. As I was curious why the video appeared, I watched it, and it's you who makes me start getting interested in it! Cool!
(I was major in accounting in University, but in that four years I didn't study hard at all and found it was super boring.)
And after watching your other videos, I quitted my job, because I finally found a thing which is really hard, professional, and I am interested in. Thank you super much James!!

But i have a question that I'm confused about.. i want to study animation also, and want to do animation job.. I'm confused can i do two jobs together? Like ACCA have this flexibility that you can do another job with it? Like doctors can do two things together, they can run their own clinic.. Accountants have something like this to start their own and also do another job with it?

2. At the highest position you make a shit ton of money ( CFO are at the six figures ..... even seven )

I feel to old reading through the comments they are soo young im here in my 20’s starting accounting 😕😔
Julissa Rodriguez what are you taling about? I’m 22, gonna have to make a “Berufsmatur” wich will take me 2 years. and then another 3-4 years for my Bachelor and another 2 years for the master...I’ll start working in management and accounting by the age of 30 so what? don’t let your age be a excuse. Even if you’re there by 40...you got a decent job in wich you can grow and get promotet. You’ll earn handsomely for 10 years and then you’ll be just 50....

Starting this channel was an excellent idea in my opinion. I think you do an excellent job breaking down concepts in a clear and engaging way. So glad I found it!
Thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying the videos
Congrats on landing your job!! Hope you're keeping safe and well :)
Honestly, thank you. I watched another persons "What I wish I knew before I Got Into Accounting" and she really scared me. I actually started to freak out about this choice. This is a very big plan taking several years of experience because I am still studying and applying for some accounting positions. But ya know, as you refer " accounting profession is a rock". Your video is cool. Thanks a tonnnn.
Hey there! It's great to hear that you're considering a move to Canada. I love it here
Holy crap I just discovered this channel. Hey fellow Vancouverite!
Stay safe!

I went for my passions, fashion design and then childcare, and I found out too late I’m not fit for them. As an introvert with social anxiety & self doubt, do you think this is the right choice? If so, what kind of accounting work is for “the non-ambitious yet wanting to make a happy stable living” person should go for? Sorry if this is long, wanted to be through 😅

Hey man, I’m super confused about wether to go down a maths career or engineering career for university. For accounting, what do you actually do on a day to day basis? What are the salaries? How’s the social life?
Hey John, Maths and Engineering are both great options. You won't need either for accounting as it only requires basic maths. The job and salaries can vary hugely depending on where you work. As can the social life.

I really hope that this channel will help me improve my skills, especially on international level.
Is job security as an accountant becoming less secure with technology, accountancy apps, software etc?
I think that many bookkeeping jobs will eventually get replaced by AI. Although, highly-skilled accountants will still be needed to operate and interpret the new technology.
Accounting Stuff what do you think makes someone a highly-skilled accountant that is qualified to interpret new technology?
@@yoeri7004 I think it would help to do additional reading beyond the scope of your normal job. Also, if you can get a Financial Controller role where you see the big picture then that would be ideally. However it takes a while to build up that experience

Hey Sabrina, I hope that works out for you! All the best :)
Won't accounting be automatized in the future ?

That is a tough question. I don't think happiness is determined solely by your career. That being said, it's really what you make of it. You can have massively different experiences doing the exact same job at different companies. The challenge is to find a role that suits you and the lifestyle you want to live. Honestly I always want to be an engineer at the first place because it seems so cool but becoming an accountant is cool too...
Glad to hear it mate. Props for making it through 6 years in audit at the big 4 - that is hard work!
This was probably the most helpful and interesting video for teaching me about accounting
Cheers Asha, glad you enjoyed it
The analogy is cool, but rocks erode slowly over time
Hello everyone! Here's my turbulent story about how I got into all that :))
I majored in Humanities, and all my life I thought I was going to work with texts and people.
Surprisingly, I discovered that it felt so calm and clear (compared to everything related to marketing and journalism, - many of my ex-groupmates work in those spheres, but I guess I have a different type of personality.)
Also, I think accounting as an area has been there for much longer than that whole IT stuff, and I’m not sure I would take my chances with the latter.
I guess I have a lot to catch up on there :)
The months of internship are going to be really hard money-wise (because these internships are either unpaid or very low-paid), but if I get a job offer after I complete the program, I hope it will become easier.
I was so excited to get my MSA but been discouraged by these articles about accounting becoming obsolete or automated. Maan!
Your videos are so helpful, thank you so much! I’m currently majoring in accounting at university and your videos have helped me in my introduction to financial accounting class, so thanks so much!
