This is a similar situation to where I got screwed out of $1,000+ dollars during the 2020 NBA shortened season.
One of the best bets I made all time was Lakers O 50.5 wins. This was LeBron and ADs first season together. They had around 26 games left and 48 wins when they called the season. They came back, played 8 more bubble games and they got to 51 and I still lost because of a games caveat even though my ticket didn't state any caveat.
They take a lot of your money away when a game gets voided too. I remember a couple of times. I had a parlay at 4,000 and something. They drop it down to 2,000! I’m like it’s just 1 damn game! The only sportsbook that does it too.
Problem is books angleshoot on how they interpret their rules to suit their action.
In the first scenario, yes, it sucks when your total goes over, but the game is terminated and does not go the distance. But those are the rules. The bettor should read and be familiar with the rules, so they will know if the site is following the rules or not. But hardly anyone reads them.
The bigger issue is the flip flopping over months. They should have voided the bet from the start and stuck to it.
In the first scenario nobody got screwed even with one less game. The people that bet the under 7.5 would still lose the bet and the people that bet over 7.5 won anyways. I know why sportsbooks put these rules in place because the reverse can happen but in this situation the one less game didn't affect the bet.
You make a good point here. The terms and conditions do say the bet is to be voided, however maybe these terms could be reworded to say if the cancellation of one game doesn’t have any effect then the bet will stand. People would and will be mad either way. Also then what do you do void other bets that had alternate win totals? As a Sportsbook it doesn’t benefit them to cancel it necessarily, and usually this is done as protection for the users (in this case the under bettors). If this wording was in the T&C prior then the over bettors would’ve been paid out and the under bettors would’ve not been refunded. One party is always gonna be happy and the other will be mad.
MGM might not care but the risk management algo, team member or trader might. Billion dollar corps have pulled all kinds of shady shit for peanuts.
There’s only 2 X-Files episodes I remember. The glowing red eyes and the crazy inbreds that beat the sheriff to death. Those two were creepy as hell.
If the user had withdrawn the money when he was paid out, then upon the resettlement of the bet, the user would have a negative balance. I don’t believe betmgm would go after the money unless it was a very large amount, but if the user deposited in the future the negative balance would be applied to the deposit.
I don’t like their website some of their tactics are miss leading and deceiving with their bonuses which I never got. I won money and still ended up with a negative balance they had to be paid which they applied it towards it which I don’t know how I ended up like that in the first place
