This is a really unique channel. They are lots of channels dedicated to locomotives of auto restoration but there is a real lack of channels talking about uk wagons. I like these classic wagons, there very charming.
Thank you very much! I do hope to one day have my own loco but for now wagons are very much the priority and I have plenty to be getting on with!
Hi Ollie...In my day, many, many years back, I remember those hooks were being used for ropes to secure tarpaulin sheeting meant to keep the goods dry and feeling them for tightness. Great to see you taking on saving another vital piece of rolling stock saving it from scrap, you're a brave man!! Wish there were more like you, and thanks for doing what you do. 👍
Sadly not too many have an interest in wagon preservation but I’m trying to do my bit!
*End of 2022* “Hi guys this my new Class 43, 10 car set.”
😂😂 not really my interest, more wagons maybe 😆😆
Another wagon!!! Your full of surprises Ollie...its going to be great to follow the progress on your fleet now. All the best.
Really superb channel, I've enjoyed the brake van up to now can't wait for the boxvan & the tube wagon over the coming months. I did notice a glimpse ofa brake van that was in a real poor state maybe another one for future project , keep up the GOOD work 👍 . Can't wait.
My brake van brakes are 90% complete so the next video from the brake should be the last of the brake rigging before I finally get on with something different!
OK this is getting serious we've got to save Ollie from this addiction of his hahaha 😆 😂
I don’t need saving I don’t think 👀😂😂
Get that coach......LOL
There just isn’t room ( or money ) 😂
Fantastic. Just at the point about the hooks. They are for tying down loads. They would also be used to secure tarpaulins over any other potential loads that would go in that may be required to be covered from the elements
Hopefully we won't need to use them considering we don't transport any material anywhere! haha! Glad you enjoyed mate :)
At 6:34 you ask about the hooks.
They're for tarpaulin straps.
I need to do more research before I do a video like this! lol
Now it,s a proper train set. All the best. Carl.
Just need a loco to pull it all now! Hope you enjoyed :)
Looks great mate if you need any help with this be happy to as I'm only down road
Should join as a volunteer then get stuck in!!
Another series for us to enjoy - very interesting this one was too - looking forward to seeing lots more - Thank you Ollie!
Plenty more to come, just need to get the brake rigging finished first on the brake!
@@WardleRestorations that’s great !
Please explain why it is called a tube wagon. Did it originally carry pipes etc?
thank you for another wonderful video Wardle Road
Cheers
The hooks on the underside were used for tying the ropes on the tarpaulins if the wagon needed to be covered. These would carry a variety of different loads - not just tubes and pipes.
Thank you for the info! I’m learning as I go along 😂
Hi Ollie Another wagon project! you must like hard work too much, lol. Is there any more videos on the box van coming soon or are you trying to finish the brake van first, you are taking on a lot of work but then someone has to do it, lol. Good luck with this and no doubt more future wagon projects. Its nice to see your work come to fruition, by the time you have a rake of 5 or 6 wagons they will look fantastic, being pulled along by a loco. 👍👍
Yeh, as time is limited on the pit, its best to get as much as I can done but trust me I can't wait to work on something other than the brakes but it had to be done! Will get a video on the box van done once I am off the pit. As you say, someone has to do it lol!
Will this carry a Wardle Road livery as well?
Empty return to Wear Yard!
This will most likely Civil engineers grey with yellow strip 👍
Wonderful video
Cheers mels 😊
It's good to see it all dry and workable, Ollie. A relief at least. Rigging air-brakes sounds like a lot of piping but if it brings it up to the CVR's running requirements, all power to your elbow! Thanks for the post. Keep safe Ollie. Cheers!
Indeed but still plenty of work to do, hopefully the next couple of years she’ll be top notch!
just scubbed to you channel from james freeman (d1661NS) on railcam
Thank you for popping over to the channel James, much appreciated!
You're a glutton for punishment, Ollie!
All part of the fun!!
The hooks may have (or may also have) been used for shunting in yards where heavy horses were used for this purpose.
Honestly didn’t think of that, would make a lot of sense!
The metal plate on the planking at about 5:40 is likely just a patch put in to cover a hole in a rotten plank.
Your brave in trying to air fit this wagon. I would have thought the design of the handbrake mechanism precludes this from being converted.
The Axleboxes are definitely BR replacements. Originally it probably had split boxes where the bottom half drops away for servicing
Yes the axle boxes were changed when BR took it over. The wood behind the metal plate is fine so it can't have been patchwork
WOW 😮 another wagon repair video fantastic 👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it, this may not be as frequent as the other wagons video wise though!

Spelt Diaries wrong ;)
@@WardleRestorations oh
wont be long till you own half the stock on this railway XD, cant wait 2 see all 3 done and running together
Long way to go before we get to that stage but what a day it will be when it does happen!
@@WardleRestorations never say never, especially with the progress you have made
@@GWRailFan Thats very true :)
You have got to be kidding me... XD
I'm literally restoring one RN! What are the odds?
Though I must say, yours is in a MUCH better condition with the frame at the very least!
Fantastic to hear you are doing the same, what railway? If you have any pictures of the progress feel free to post them on the Wardle Road Community Facebook Group!
@@WardleRestorations It's on the Battlefield line in Bosworth - A project for the NRM even!
My only problem is that the brakes have been partially dis-engaged so they are locked on and I have no idea (as of right now) how the brake rigging should look... XD
Otherwise, it's exactly the same as your wagon having been built, I do believe, in 1923!
@@lordalexander8005 Well do keep me updated with how you get on :)
@@WardleRestorations I'll certainly try my best, it's literally just a wire-wheel job for all of the rust atm... XD
