Not all heroes wear capes. Some put headers on their wife’s broncos. Thanks for not rambling for 20 minutes about how much you love these old fords and la di da. Straight to brass tacks. I’m definitely putting this kit on my 94 F150
Sounds pretty good!👍🏻 We really appreciate the quality of your videos. Thank you for taking the time to get these focused shots and make it look like we are working alongside you.
Man so happy you work on 1990 Bronco, I have my EB since 20 years now. I learn so mush from you, cant wait for the next vidéo. Now struggling with fuel pump (no more pump noise and no start) have to remove it and upgrade it. Many thaks for all you do for us. Hugo from Valleyfield near Montréal Québec.
Greatly Appreciate your video. I have a 1994 5.8 4x4 f150 that recently started blowing blue smoke, backfires, sucks gas & loss of power. I replaced the PCV VALVE and seemed to solve the problem for about 50 miles and now even worse than before. Long story short I came across your video on smog deletion and believe I'll see if this works. Thanks again
Thanks, I try to clean and detail piece by piece after every repair in the area that was being repaired. It takes some time and patience especially since it is a daily driver and keeps getting dirty.
Only thing I would have done different is put some anticize or never size that stuff that keeps them from rust and sticking on the header bolts. Good job and Great truck.
Wow best step by step video I have seen! Awesome job I will do the same to my 302. Thinking about converting Efi to carb as well but can’t find a good video on that.
Thx man. I would definitely install that coil support. That whole assembly is pretty heavy, and I’ve had it break on the other 2 mounts that screw into the lower intake. I also haven’t found a great way to mount my dipstick bracket yet
I did this upgrade. It wasn't as easy as it looked. One of the problems was the EGR fitting. The thread on the EGR fitting would not screw into the header as the threads were different. I had to go to my local logging supply, find a fitting that would thread into the header port. I then TIG welded the threads onto the stock fitting. The passenger side rear bolt was also hard to reach. I figured that a tiny ratchet, wobly and 3/8 socket would do the trick. The biggest problem was the y pipe would not bolt right up to the header flanges. Imagine this, a heavy duty ratchet strap pulling one of the y pipe legs in one direction, a long steel bar moving the pipe leg in another direction and a ball peen hammer in your other hand hammering up the flange to receive the header bolt. I felt like I was standing on my head spitting pickles. OMFG My wife said my hair looked funny after that. PS almost forgot, the drivers side headers were not tapped for studs😮 It was a great video and inspired me to upgrade. The exhaust gaskets I had put in 12 years before had bought the farm.
That’s a good idea, I’ll look into it. My favorite is the 4th gen otherwise know as the brick nose. I know that is the least favored generation but it is my personal favorite, especially the interior. Maybe I will post a comparison video showing the differences.
@@TheFixTechI wrote the Wikipedia page for Ford bronco around 2009-10. All the options listed was mainly me. Also a brick nose fan. Have two Eddie Bauer's.
I would say minimal performance gains, 5hp max. I did this upgrade mainly for the looks and sound. These sound very good and I can tell the flow is better. BBK does state a 10-15 hp increase but I would assume that is with an open exhaust. I am currently running dual cats and a muffler, and it still sounds great. The biggest bottle neck on these engines are the E7 heads, if you want good performance numbers you would either need to port the stock heads or go aluminum aftermarket. A nice set of heads, mild cam and these headers with open exhaust and you’ll pass 300hp on stock bottom end.
I have a stock 1994 Ford XLT f150 he has a stock 302 or as people like to call it the 5.0 I was thinking doing some headers like this and place in my stock cast-iron, just for the nice sound and a little bit bottom end torque, already upgraded the stock 94 fuel injectors over to a stock 97 Ford explorer fuel injector nozzles that had the four holes instead of the single she run smoother better fuel economy came with that time for something like this hope it's worth the time and money
@@TheFixTech yeah I'm doing all my homework before I do anything because I know there's a lot of pros and cons about adding headers to a stock motor I'm just looking for something that's going to let her breathe a little bit better
Do those headers have a 2.25 inch outlet on the RHS and a 2.5 inch outlet on the LHS like the stock exhaust manifolds do? It seems that fact is sometimes overlooked and that might be why you had an exhaust leak on the RHS in the first place if your y-pipe had a 2.5 inch inlet on both sides. Great video!
My 1994 has a bad leak on the passenger side, gonna have to fix it soon. Can you tell me if there were gaskets there when you pulled the manifolds? I hear there are and aren’t, there’s some conflicting information.
Mine did not have gaskets, I added a gasket on the passenger side to help the leak but was useless since the leak was from the collector. That’s when I decided to upgrade to these BBK shortys. From my research Ford did not use gaskets from the factory, if gaskets were used it was after they left the dealership.
On the truck shown in the video the fitting was a little tight but went on nonetheless (I assumed due to the coating) On my 90 the fitting was spot on. Both 5.8.
By chance does anybody know for a fact if these will fit on a 1996 f150 4x4 w/ 5.8L? It looks like it’ll fit but on summit racing it says it won’t fit.
I didn’t end up using the BBk headers. I went with the JBA performance 1628SJS. I just finished bolting them up today and they fit perfectly. Now just gotta put everything back together.
@@Acosta-on7do I could definitely tell the difference. The added torque was noticeable and the sound of the exhaust was deeper sounds less restrictive. It was worth the work to get it swapped out lol
You can use a mechanic stethoscope or the manual way, on cold start feel around with your hands around possible suspect areas. Be sure to only do this on cold starts as the exhaust gets hot fast. Also visual inspection, If you see black soot near manifold or exhaust flange and clamps that would be suspect.
Did they match up to the Y pipe ? I have a Flowmaster Y pipe that i haven't installed and am going to get headers my truck has the wrong manifolds for the Y pipe and it's a fresh long block so extra flow should help some the flowmaster Y pipe for the 5.8 liter looks like its nearly 3 inches from an inch or so back all the way past the catalytic converter
Yes, absolutely. Also check the muffler, if the muffler has been removed or is an aftermarket. Gibson exhaust has a factory sounding muffler, and Walker exhaust will have the cats.
@@TheFixTech ok thx, gonna put a cal cat back on to start and see how it does. I have a rough idle. Also, do you think not having a cat would cause this? May be running rich?
Unfortunately no, the previous owner installed an aftermarket replacement y pipe catalytic converter (not the best quality) I am looking for a nice stock one.
Help! I ordered a other set of Headers for my 1993 F150 Windsor, installed them and the EGR pipe doesn't reach the EGR!?!? Has anyone found an EGR pipe that fits this Header and links up with the actual EGR? Thank you!!!
How far is the pipe away? I know there are a couple different egr valves that will work that are longer (lower, to reach egr pipe) than others, this may help.

Header gaskets make a huge difference too I recommend Percy's gaskets they reseal if they ever leak but I've never had any leaks with mine and they've been on for years I'd also upgrade to ARP header studs if you don't already have them the Percy's gaskets are thicker than the in box gaskets

I used the hardware that came with the new headers, they were 3/4 length.
Did you gain any power?
Unfortunately this was only for sound, to free up power you will need better flowing heads and a cam for best performance.
What did you do with O2 sensor
The o2 sensor should be located on the y pipe. If yours is in the header you can relocate the o2 to the y pipe

So u don’t need to tune after installing the headers ?
No tune needed as this upgrade helps exhaust flow easily giving a minor bump in horsepower while sounding good.
