- Last month I brought you 10 games that I felt were above average despite what their Metacritic review scores may have offered - and while I liked that video, there was rightfully some push back on my scale from folks. So I'm back this month with 10 more - this time listing only games that scored below a 70 rather than going from an 80 and below.

I’m surprised it was rated so low. It’s a really good game. I wish they would rerelease both games. They are very pricey used.
A problem is that people see 70% as being a low score when it is in fact well above average. It's like 70 has become the new 50.
This. 100% accurate. I've had people say to me 'Why would I pay it? It's only got a 70.' and I'm absolutely flabbergasted.
Most of that is because of places like IGN giving even mediocre games around the 70% or 7/10 score when they aren't deserving.
Something has to be really terrible for them to give a lower score than that, and because people see games getting over inflated 70% scores, they've just decided that 70% means average, but as you said, that's far from average, and actually means it's really good game in the grand scheme of things

Just bought two dozen cheap PS2 games and I'm having a blast playing these.
Gauntlet Dark Legacy getting 54 on Xbox, 60 on GameCube and 73 on PS2? I can't even begin to explain how they come to those scores.
Same with Burnout Dominator. A 76% and the worst rated Burnout game? That doesn't make any kind of sense to me at all.
So many games get shoved to the side because we've been conditioned to only look at anything 80% and above, if not worse.

Great topic Jay. I’m a big fan of the ssx series, but I’ve not checked out 1080, it’s looks cool. A movie tie in I enjoyed at the time was enter the matrix on the ps2, I don’t know how it holds up now but I enjoyed it at the time... it doesn’t score well 😄 Top video bud 👍
I remember a friend of mine suggesting the Matrix game to me from the PS2 days. I didn't dig the films, so I never gave it a shot - I'll have to track it down!

Totally agree about Captain America. I absolutely loved this game. One of the few games I ever got all 1000 achievement points.
PAC Man World Re-PAC is a solid 2.5d platformer. I enjoyed it on the Switch. The depth perception on jumps can be frustrating at times but a good game.
I think I need to find a copy of Lilo and Sticj 2!!
100% agreed on the depth perception, that's my biggest issue with it as well!
I need to get myself a copy of the two GI Joe games on NES. Both are awesome. Also I saw this RIGHT after I just finished a very similar video. I just covered games that are (mostly) universally hated that I love :P
Nice. I always love videos like this because I can poke my head in and see what I was right about. I had been praising Teen Titans and the Speed Racer games for years so glad to see everyone catching up...and I did say Speed Racers gameS. Plural. The DS one is really good. Very fast, very smooth, much more normal racing than the more combat focused Wii game.
I wonder how long before everyone discovers how brilliant We Cheer 2 was.
Just tossing this out there, but capcom said they are looking into more ways to make new mega man games. Let's get hyped up

Also, more in the X series, more in the ZX series, and more in the Battle Network series. There's SO MUCH potential for amazing gameplay in that universe!

Oh dude...it's legitimately so much better than anything else MCU related from the time.
Captain America is one of my favorite super hero games from that generation. I've been wanting to revisit it by the only one I have is a sealed ps3 version that I dont want to open just yet. I'll have to keep an eye out for a loose copy.
Wow, some of these surprised me! 1080 Snowboarding is an excellent game and was so popular back in the day - I had no idea that it didn't score well at the time.
I've also never understood the hate that Atlantis Factor gets. It's definitely tough, which I know makes it a tough sell for some folks, but no harder than a lot of other Capcom games.
Also a Speed Racer mention? Dude, that makes this video S-tier. 😄
Actually I remember it did review pretty well back in day in video game magazines. The thing with Metacritic is it tends to have reviews mainly from contemporary audiences.
You know what's interesting? The 70 is actually from reviews at the time - I made sure of that.
What I DIDN'T do was verify that the reviews were for the correct game - because why wouldn't they be? But sure as anything, while the scores are accurate for the 90s, they're actually for Mischief Makers instead of 1080, which is bananas.

Seriously though, that game is absolute fire. Weird, completely insane, and hard as nails, but so much fun.

I always thought 1080 Snowboarding was praised and highly reviewed. Surprised it only has 70 on metacritic.
So - fun story. Metacritic fucked up. 😂 And so did I by taking them at their face value.
Another commenter mentioned the same thing earlier, so I went back to take a look and see if someone just REALLY hated it that brought down the overall score - and for some reason, Metacritic is using the scores for Mischief Makers to calculate the core for 1080. So it's COMPLETELY wrong, and I just didn't question it. :P
@@SquarePegs Lol! I thought Mischief Makers was critically praised too. Though it didn’t sell well and I believe it is overrated. I think it gets love because it is a Treasue game. I don’t believe the GameCube 1080 did as well critically maybe you can replace n64 version with GameCube version.
Finally someone else likes the Speed Racer movie! I get so much crap for loving it 😄
To be fair, Strider would bring diwn the score of any compilation 😉

A review is just one person's opinion. I watch reviews to see if a game is objectively broken, or if its something I'd want to play.
Absolutely agreed, which is why for this series of videos I'm focusing on Metacritic as a source to be an aggregate score of all reviews. If there's 10+ reviews on a game and it's averaging a 6/10 or 60 for a score, and I think it's better than that - then I'm hoping I can give the game it's flowers here in these videos.
I'd much rather I say something positive about a game in hopes that it encourages someone to give it a shot, rather than seeing a review score and passing it by.
The Capcom Classics Mini Mix could just have gotten bad sound/video ratings for a GBA game (compared to system capabilities) and dragged the overall score down? Had fun watching!
How about the opposite - most overrated games for each console?

Speed racer is 100% better on PS2 imo. You should try that it if you like the Wii version. Normal controls make the car-fu waaay easier, making you feel like a ninja on the track.
Is PacWorkd better than the Ghostly Adventures games?
I think so, at least a bit more. Your mileage may vary, since we all like different things, but I felt that PMW was a bit more well rounded than the Ghostly Adventures games (which I also enjoy).
From the games you showed. I honestly think the critics were dead on with their ratings. I don't think any game you showed were like top tier games.

I respectfully disagree with MetalJesusRocks bring the grand pubah of RUclips gaming. I like and watch MetalJesus, don't get me wrong. But I feel that honor goes to Mark Bussler of Classic Game Room.
Ugh licensed games - never played one that I liked...they are just usually copies of other games with licensed characters forced in. Just yuck for all of them.

Pac-Man world is a solid game wild that it didn’t have great reviews
Especially the time period it came out. It was a great game. It gets overlooked. At least the fans love it which means the series got rereleased in a collection.

Going to make this short and sweet. I agree, there are always games we like better than the critics. I completely agree with the Batman game, especially co-op. My wife and I enjoyed that one immensely. A couple I like that didn't review the greatest is Little Red Riding Hood's Zombie BBQ on the DS and Need for Speed: The Run on the Xbox 360. Take care! 🟧
LRRHZBBQ is legitimately so wildly overlooked by people. Incredible game. And NFSTR is my favorite in the series. :D
