I remember buying Drake of the 99 dragons at a gamestop several years ago for 25 cents. Cashier said that I'm over paying. Played it for ten minutes and had to throw up. On the bright side, a friend from work was collecting video games and said that he was looking for it. I was going to give it to him, but when I announced that I had it, the guy cut me off and said he would give me 5 dollars for it. So that's how Drake made me lose my lunch and helped me buy a new one.
@melon4200 Yes, I did. The fast-moving camera in the game, complete with the visuals and a full meal beforehand, made me literally vomit. Had to cover my eyes a bit for the game in the video section.
Always felt that Kabuki Warriors is a flawed yet sorely misunderstood game. Definitely not "worst game ever" levels of bad, but there are better choices out there.
@@user-wt2mo9eb6i I've got $7 into a complete copy of it. I'm sure I can find $7 of value/fun into it. That's how I judge the worth of my time with it. If I can get much fun, it's worth that cost. 💪🏻
i honestly really like the concept. imagine a game with that premise but with a weapon-based fighting game system as good as soul calibur... that would actually be interesting
It interesting that most of the worst games on here actually seem like really good games on paper. Like, Kabuki inspired fighting game. A children's platformer where you play as a troop on mice. Third person shooter with parkour and 2000s comic book graphics. Those sound really fun. It's just the execution of them all.
I wish I could remember the title but, the worst Original Xbox game for me was this detective game that took place in two time periods. You played a female detective tracking a serial killer her great great grandfather was also tracking. Mysterious😮. I rage quit the game when I had to figure out a gingerbread man recipe. I’m not joking, each ingredient had to be measured and added according to symbolically what makes the gingerbread man a “man”. This happens in the first hour after investigating a murder scene.
Oh my god! I totally forgot that I played Still Life until reading your description. I was so excited to play it but it was truly abysmal. Would you believe that was the SECOND game... in a TRILOGY!?
This was a enjoyable concept, going after low scores games on the Xbox! I haven't heard of any of them, but you covered them well, with excellent gameplay of each! One of the worst rated Xbox games that I personally love & think is quite good is a official George Romero "Land of the Dead: Road to Fiddler's Green" & was created with the then new movie in mind which it's loosely based on. When seeing the movie opening week at the theater, they showed the video game as a preview before they showed the actual film. It is a original Xbox console exclusive, but also on PC. I was a diehard PS2 gamer then but as I absolutely adore Romero's several famous Zombie films like "Dawn of the Dead" I saw in 1978, I had to play "Land of the Dead", so that was my excuse to buy my first Xbox & the game did not disappoint! Years later with the advent of the internet the game got destroyed by numerous jaded game reviews at that time, but I never knew it was considered bad until years later. It is certainly janky but is still a fantastic & somewhat disturbing zombie game. The harder the difficulty you set, the faster & more aggressive the zombies come at you, it was ahead of it's time as simplistic as it looks. The zombie noises & eerie electronic music really makes the experience. I can't recommend it enough, it is one of the most subjective "bad games" I've ever played. I made a video years ago picking out low Metacritic scored games I really enjoyed, which made for a entertaining video montage!
Bubbling under on the worst list is Chicago Enforcer. It's ridiculously unfair; enemies will pop out of nowhere and wreck you with perfect accuracy like a DarkSim.
I remember really wanting to try Drake and the 99 Dragons. But then i saw the reviews. A few days ago i finally saw a copy at a retro game store and its been on my mind to go back and get it. But i feel like thats a terrible idea
16:13 actually, another game did this first. This was implemented in Jet Moto (1996) for PS1, and it felt great there. This mechanic would return in the other two Jet Moto games, both also on PS1
do you remember the Deadliest Warrior fighting games? They were simple but me and my bro loved playing them. The dismemberment was pretty cool and different weapons etc
That "New Legends" game that you said was worse than Sneakers got actually halfway decent reviews, comparatively, but the failure of sales actually stopped that studio from making a Sam & Max title. And considering that studio was made up of lots of LucasArts veterans on the squad, I think we could've been relatively hopeful for their efforts in that specific type of game, that LucasArts did so well for so many years. I don't have a point to any of this just thought it was kind of interesting. Enjoyed the video! First one I've seen from your channel. Thanks for making it! 👍
Most of these games weren't as bad as they were labeled, just came out at the wrong time in the wrong format. Kabuki Warriors' 'simple combat' comes from Samurai Spirits, where the game focuses on footsies and big hits over combos. Deadliest Warrior did this better, but without Kabuki, wouldn't have been possible. And the other games would've had a better review had they waited to be Xbox Live Arcade titles and not 60 dollar games. Speaking of Nezmix, the game is so unfairly judged. The west wasn't used to "weird Japanese games" as it is nowadays. It was sure simple, but the game still featured great graphics for its time, an amazing soundtrack (the intro theme in Japanese: Magical Eyes by Folder 5 is such a banger), but not only that, the voices aren't "rat squeaks"; it's fully dubbed in Japanese. How many games of that era can you name with fully voiced characters? Out of all games in this list, it's one that deserves to return.
The mouse game wasn't as bad, just people weren't used to 'weird Japanese' games. Just see the amount of games that were never released outside of Japan due to that, like Doshin the Giant.
Just got my copy of Kabuki Warriors today, thanks to this video. Im a firm believer that video games are art first. And that game looked amazing as far as art direction and game mechanics go. Definitely unique
Kabuki Warriors looks incredibly simple, but also a bit satisfying with an interesting concept. Sneakers looks incredibly cozy, if a bit bland. Drake of the 99 Dragons will always be legendary. They will never get me to hate it. The other two just look awful. Who’s idea was it to put heart attacks as a racing game mechanic lol.
hey i loved the Shrek game, it was rough for sure but it had some positive aspects to it. Game got brutally hard at the end though i never beat it as a kid
Interesting coverage for these five titles. Yeah, I only known from searching them at a cursory glance and assuming they don’t have anything to offer…yet, I often gravitate toward Sneakers for some unknown peculiar reason. I guess seeing the graphic being not bad and some good music alongside the title being at least playable in a mix of a 2D platformer with elements of fighting really surprised me. It doesn’t have that much going on outside of that…but it’s not as glitchy or unfinished compared to the others on this list. Kabuki Warrior had a very good premise of a Kabuki theatre fighting game and I wished to have loved to see how Genki doing more with this if they had more development time…shame it’s not content rich enough though. The others don’t have much to say, although the idea of an automated track feature sounds amazing had it been better executed in a better title than Pulse Racer. And of course Drake of the 99 Dragons is still very much….an extremely difficult game to come back and I don’t think the 2018 PC version can simply fix the issues of the bad level design.
On another side note was that Genki also developed Kakuto Chojin and that one was also lambasted by critics and was recently reviewed by Digital Foundry more recently too. It’s pretty interesting…
Only ever played the demo for Drake, but as a 10 year old that loved The Matrix (ostensibly because of the action, didn't have a clue of what the film was actually about, lol), i thoight the game was cool as hell. Thinking about it, i recognized the game wasnt great (the controls really werent intuitive) but appreciated the attempt and enjoyed what it was trying to do, which i think kickstarted my love for weird, janky games that had ambition but failed the execition, like Alone in the Dark 2008. Either way, great video, thanks for shining a light on some games I'd never heard of!
Alone In The Dark 2008’s real time inventory system was such a neat idea. Doing away with menus entirely and just having your character check his pockets. I’m surprised no else has tried this. If I had to guess, it’s too animation heavy to make it work without glitching nowadays.
Sneakers being made by Media Vision is so odd. I agree with you that the game isn't nearly as horrible as reviewers claimed. The soundtrack is excellent
The music has a cute charm to it! I seriously think a big issue with it for many at the time was that it took place on a 2D plane and people really wanted it be a 3D platformer.
Drake of the 99 Dragons don't seem that bad to me, I love 3rd Person shoot em ups, like Max Payne, Dead To Rights, Devil May Cry etc. So I'll check this out, see for myself.
Idk if that Bruce Lee game was an exclusive but it’s the worst Xbox game I ever owned or played. I got it on launch full price and electronics boutique only gave me 15 in credit back within a week 😂
Me and one of my best friends back in high school used a free rental to check out Drake of the 99 Dragons AFTER seeing a scathing review for it on X-Play (which I believe at the time was STILL ON TechTV). You forgot to mention how in kabuki warriors, all you need to do to win is to hold the stick left or right and mash A. Instant win essentially every time.
I don’t know if you have played 7 days to Die but it’s brutal. Zombies spawn on your head or 20 of them will run out of a closet? If you drive over a rock or stick in your vehicle it takes tons of damage. You can path the zombies like lemmings, they are beyond simple. And the game took 12 years to make it this bad.
I remember playing a demo disc of a bunch of games and drake was one of them, and as a kid i thought i liked it lol, def would like to see a full review on that.
Kabuki warriors is made by the guys who made Kengo and Bushido blade. They were definitely trying to make things a little wackier than their other games and just didn't get it down all the way.

You see people be like "game reviewers dont use the full scale, everythings a 7/10 at worst, they need to use the full scale, Suicide Squad and Starfield should totally be 3/10 games" You do not know what a 3/10 is. This video is a good reminder on what 3/10s are
@TheSultan1470 part of what makes it hard to judge these games. But I think every game here was a full price $50 release at launch, so their scales are probably not that much different (other than adjusting for era) But also when there's so many indie games released at a budget price that makes the scale messier too, much less stuff like f2p games or Gamepass games. I think Jeff Gerstman's halo infinite review was like, a big essay of "what are we even doing here. If you want to know how this plays the mutiplayer is literally free, go try it yourself. If you want to know if the campaign is good, we already kinda super recommend having Game Pass anyways, you should go try it yourself there too. What purpose does a review have in informing a consumer when it's already so accessible to just play a game?" (Then the last paragraph was a generic review summary followed by a score, to trap the people who just skip to the end of the review just for a score who doesnt read the rest of the review lol) Reviewing games nowadays is a weird complicated mess anyways
the sound effects in kabuki warriors are really funny to me because ive played MULTIPLE games with kabuki inspired sfx that do it so much better than that
the track builder in PulseRacer looks interesting- and I've never heard of Stake before, but at a glance it looks like something I would play (now that I know it's flaws, I might stay away).
Sneakers should have been ok as a cheapie but they knew it wasn’t going to do well, I think. Sneakers is a TERRIBLE name which tells you nothing about the game and regulating it to TRU really did not do it any favors.
No Breakdown?? That was the most BROKEN POS I have ever played. Boring bland graphics, awful shooting and targeting mechanics. Breakdown ranks between Drake and the 99 Dragons and Batman Dark Tomorrow.
Drake of the 99 Dragons is so bad it's funny. It might not be the worst game ever, but it's no where near good. You can CLEARLY tell they wanted to make a good dame but they just SUCK at making games. 😂
It’s more acceptable to be a Sony fanboy these days. Both Sony and Microsoft are trash now though. I will say at least Microsoft makes some older games backwards compatible unlike Sony.

You see people be like "game reviewers dont use the full scale, everythings a 7/10 at worst, they need to use the full scale, Suicide Squad and Starfield should totally be 3/10 games"
You do not know what a 3/10 is. This video is a good reminder on what 3/10s are
Well, not all productions can be judged on the same scale, right?
@TheSultan1470 part of what makes it hard to judge these games. But I think every game here was a full price $50 release at launch, so their scales are probably not that much different (other than adjusting for era)
But also when there's so many indie games released at a budget price that makes the scale messier too, much less stuff like f2p games or Gamepass games. What purpose does a review have in informing a consumer when it's already so accessible to just play a game?" (Then the last paragraph was a generic review summary followed by a score, to trap the people who just skip to the end of the review just for a score who doesnt read the rest of the review lol)
Reviewing games nowadays is a weird complicated mess anyways
A game that did Drake’s gameplay style better is probably Bloodrayne. Way more responsive with a peak soundtrack and some edgy vampirism
I had high hopes for Bruce Lee game but it was hard so I didn't finish the game
Microsoft X Box Japan Region 3 NTSC and 32 G.Bit Hard Drive and 500 G.Bit Hard Drive and 2 T.Bit Hard Drive
Old descriptions of games always crack me up.
Sneakers geometry remind me of voodoo vice I obsessed over that games case the weekend I got it because my power had went out
That first Kabuki warriors fighting game looks pretty Rad ..
If there's anything I would give to Stake, it would be the character designs being pretty cool. But they are pretty derivative of 90s Capcom designs.
What HDMI solution do you use, I need something that will look good on a HD TV and also allow me to use my HD elgato capture lol
I use Xbox2HDMI with my elgato
the sound effects in kabuki warriors are really funny to me because ive played MULTIPLE games with kabuki inspired sfx that do it so much better than that
Kabuki Warriors!! EEYOH! - that game was the tits when it was new. We played that until the disk stopped working. EEYOH!
I never heard of Stake: Fortune Fighters and Pulse Racer.
Microsoft X Box USA Region 1NTSC and 32 G.Bit Hard Drive and 500 G.Bit Drive and 2 T.Bit Hard Drive
WWF Raw (2002) is probably one of if not the worst Xbox exclusive in the history of the world
Microsoft X Box South Africa Region 4 Pal and 32 G.Bit Hard Drive and 500 G.Bit Hard Drive and 2 T.Bit Hard Drive
the track builder in PulseRacer looks interesting- and I've never heard of Stake before, but at a glance it looks like something I would play (now that I know it's flaws, I might stay away).
Has a game missed the target audience of the console it was on more than Sneakers?
Microsoft X Box UK Region 2 Pal and 32 G.Bit Hard Drive and 500 G.Bit Hard Drive and 2 T.Bit Hard Drive
Playstation ad on Xbox camp channel is wild
😂
Wait, wait..... Aquaman is not in this list?
It's super low, but that one also had a GameCube release. Never played but I've heard it stinks.
Honestly the only one of these that I have even heard of was Drake of the 99 Dragons and I have never played it.
Sneakers should have been ok as a cheapie but they knew it wasn’t going to do well, I think. Sneakers is a TERRIBLE name which tells you nothing about the game and regulating it to TRU really did not do it any favors.
i cant believe theres a game with the gunkata from Equilibrium and it was *bad*... what a waste
How do you capture footage from the xbox?
My xbox has an XBHD hooked into it to have an HDMI output which goes into my Elagato Game Capture.
No Breakdown?? That was the most BROKEN POS I have ever played. Boring bland graphics, awful shooting and targeting mechanics. Breakdown ranks between Drake and the 99 Dragons and Batman Dark Tomorrow.
That game only relied on immersive first person fist fighting, not first person shooting.
Back when every game wasn't 7/10
Kabuki isn’t really great for a fighting game. Since kabuki artists are actors
I think drake of the 99 dragons is on steam,im not sure
Yes its on Steam.
Drake of the 99 dragons sucks for me because it could have been better.
Sneakers was awful even as a kid lmao
Metal Dungeon is a guilty pleasure of mine, but if i recall, it got HORRIBLE reviews
Yeah not the best received. I honestly don't love it, but it is very unique on the Xbox.
Drake of the 99 Dragons is so bad it's funny. It might not be the worst game ever, but it's no where near good. You can CLEARLY tell they wanted to make a good dame but they just SUCK at making games. 😂
damn Barty, ok❗️
Sneakers? You mean Mouse Quest II from Smiling Friends?
I really like kabuki warriors
No sound effects?!
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeYOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
no mention of the worst game on any xbox console, halo 2?
you sound like Mark Proksch
I love that guy!
@@campxbox hell yeah 🪀
Im suprised none of the WW2 combat games was mentioned
And Combat: Task Force
This man is beyond positive all these games ass
lmao😂
You say exclusive a lot
Ee-yooo
They still doing it regardless if it’s good or not they give every Xbox game review bomb nothing has really changed
It’s more acceptable to be a Sony fanboy these days.
Both Sony and Microsoft are trash now though. I will say at least Microsoft makes some older games backwards compatible unlike Sony.
@@CellShadedVisual ugh
Adult reviewers should not be allowed to trash children's games. Game journos just suck.
