    XBOX feels like Sega's last system to me actually. So many sega exclusives were out on xbox. It was like an upgraded dreamcast.

    • @kevinsimcom
      @kevinsimcom 7 лет назад +18

      xobx was spiritual sequel to dreamcast, microsoft strarted planing their own console when they deisgned the windows CE for dreamcast, and microsoft got a lot console design experience from sega, acturally sega had discussed possibility with microsoft to make xbox compatible with dreamcast game, but microsoft finally refused

      Funny how that works... Peter Moore's "Manifesto of the Future' was the reason Sega discontinued the Dreamcast. He then made a deal with Microsoft for 12 of the upcoming Triple-A Dreamcast games to be Xbox exclusives before leaving Sega of America to oversee the Xbox launch...

    • @davidgeorge3944
      @davidgeorge3944 Год назад +10

      It really does. It was a mix of the graphical power of the console ay the time and great optimisation and utilisation of the hardware available. The first console with a HD also it was so awesome no more buyng memory cards. Only downside was the DVD player function locked without the bloody add on. That was their revenge I think for the Hard drive lol

      @@Rimurutempest8833 For sure, I remember when I got my 360 I lost interest in gaming for awhile. Of course most of the good stuff was basically unknown to the public so I missed most of that gen until about 2009 or so when I got a gaming laptop. It was glorious being able to take 360 quality games with me while hanging out. It wasn’t till later when I got my ps3 in 2011 (and much later actually) that I actually explored that gen while buying a ton of used games. I have much fonder memories with the og Xbox, including halo lan parties and the birth of Xbox live.

    Story time: when I was 9 I asked my mom for this. She convinced me I wouldn't get it, so I gave up hope. I opened all my Christmas presents totally forgetting I even wanted one. About an hour after I opened all my gifts my mom brings out my last gift, The Xbox. The first game I got for it... Bloodrayne. It was fucking amazing. I'm getting all teary eyed just thinking about it.

      Bro that's crazy I literally have the same story I lived with my aunt and uncle and asked them for an Xbox the year it launched but they had convinced me they couldn't get a hold of one but I would instead get a PS2. Well when Christmas came me and my cousin were opening gifts and he opened one and it was a GameCube. He wanted one really bad but my aunt and uncle told him the same thing they told me they weren't able to get one so when I saw that he actually got the GameCube I immediately scanned the room for the biggest box and opened it and low and behold there it was the Microsoft Xbox. I got so excited that I had an asthma attack and had to use my nebulizer machine lol. It was awesome tho I also got Dead or Alive 3, Tony Hawk 2X, Project Gotham Racing and Halo Combat Evolved. That was the best Christmas of my life and I still have that Xbox all these years later.

    GameSack's videos are so well produced and informative that it's an absurd they have only 150k subs and less than 100k views on videos like this while many other horrible game channels where they barely show the games and most of the time is spent showing the youtubers saying nonsense have hundreds of thousands of subs, sometimes even millions of them. @voltare2amstereo 7 лет назад +2

      nope, it's all done in software now.
      The soundstorm chipset was the only consumer level product that could take 2 channel audio (music, dolby surround encoded stereo etc) and recreate an acurate 6 channel output, 5 for the speakers and 1 for the sub, All in hardware.
      Development stopped after this and drivers were never written past XP - it's how the xbox was able to do 5.1 from stereo sources too.

    The OG Xbox had a lot of forward thinking design choices. The custom soundtrack feature still impresses me. A lot of sports and racing games utilized it so you could use imported music instead of the songs from the game soundtrack, but it allowed for custom radio stations in the GTA games just like on PC, a feature that sadly never came back for console GTA games.

    I was 20 years old when the OG Xbox first came out. When I was deciding between it and the PS2 I chose the Xbox mainly because it had an internal hard drive which saved me money on memory cards. I remember being amazed how huge it was and how amazingly bright the graphics were. And the original Duke controller really didn’t bother me probably because I got descent sized hands. Eventually I did get a PS2 and while I had fun with it looking back I had more fun with the Xbox.

    I like that you guys started with Panzer Dragoon Orta, one of my favourite ever original Xbox games! Kinda surprised you didn't feature Outrun 2 though, that was basically the entire reason I bought an Xbox in the first place. Although Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast came out on a lot of other systems a bit later, Outrun 2 remains an Xbox exclusive and has got content not featured in any of the C2C versions (namely the bonus courses made up of all the tracks from Daytona USA 2 and Scud Race and the original 1986 Outrun as a bonus unlockable).

    • @FragLaser
      @FragLaser 5 лет назад

      It's underrated because it sucks. Seriously, the original Xbox was like the Sega Master System of the 6th gen consoles. It had boring, generic, lackluster, and uninspired games that nobody wants to play (with the exception of Jet Set Radio Future (thank fuck for emulators now)), the controller was terrible. It was a fucking hamburger sized controller, and the S controller wasn't any better. They still kept that horrendous D-Pad and used those stupid ass black and white buttons as opposed to just using bumpers like the PS2 (and somewhat like the GameCube with the Z button). Then when you move the Xbox when there's a disc inside, it scratches it, and apparently Microsoft still doesn't understand that. I don't know many people who still has their original Xbox. Most people said they took it back because of how underwhelming as shit it is. I haven't met one person who took back their PS2 or GameCube.
      So yeah, it's underrated because it was a terrible console with terrible games. I feel sorry for anyone who grew up with only this console. I'd regret getting such a shitty console if I were any of those idiots who bought one.

    I think the thing with the XBOX is that it did everything that everyone else was doing but it did it way better. The landscape at the time was the PS2 and the dreamcast. The PS2 had a vast library of games but they were beginning to look outdated. The dreamcast had improved on the graphics and was trying to do next generation stuff but it was too early. Then comes the Xbox, what impress me to begin with is that the games started out fast. Damn did the system have memory built in. Before you had to buy the external memory packs and they were used up quickly, not the Xbox... shit I dont think anyone who didn't hack it even used 10% of its memory. Add to that Xbox live! Halo 2 was the killer app. Awesome episode guys.

      During this time I was an undergrad student and I felt that the GameCube was marketed to kids, therefore I didn't use it, with the exception of smash brothers that I would play at my friends house. I didn't get a GameCube until 5 years ago, wish I was playing it back then. But yes I was aware of the system, however it had lesser graphics, it still used physical memory cards, and no online support.

    Naturally I've gotta mention Fable. I mean I think this is the 129th comment, so I'm possibly in the top 100 people to mention that game, but it was just such a fun RPG title. My friend and I rented it and it was one of the first times we ever stayed up all night glued to a game. I guess in a similar guise there's also Morrowind, which was a great game, but I didn't play it as much. And while Japan exclusive, I have to throw out Shin Megami Tensei: NINE.
    The last one I want to mention is a game that is just burned into my mind for some reason, Black Stone: Magic and Steel. It was sort of like if Gauntlet was made by Japan. I remember it being a decent on couch co-op title.

What I did was try to go on xbox live via a copy of madden 07, and then downloaded the latest xbox firmware from the disc.I then went to the dashboard and hit both triggers and clicked in both thumbsticks at the same time to run the dashboard in 480i, afterwards I did this again to put it back to 480p. • @michaelwolfe9496
      @michaelwolfe9496 7 лет назад +6

      I heard a rumor that SEGA went to MS for financial aid back in 2000. The deal SEGA proposed was that if MS would hold off on releasing the Xbox and supported the Dreamcast, then SEGA would develop games exclusively for MS after the Dreamcast ran its course. For whatever reason, MS declined and the Dreamcast had to be discontinued. There were still several games in development for the DC at that time and the Xbox was the easiest system to port them over to.
      I'm not sure how much of this is factual though.

      But also Sega did ports to other consoles, sonic adventure 1 and 2, as skies of arcadia were port to the gamecube, as crazy taxi and grandia 2 to the ps2.

      Two thngs got Microsoft into the console market. The Dreamcast failed it used a MS os. And two Sony wouldnt agree to use Direct X in the unpcoming PS2. Just like Sony got into the market because Nindendo backed out of the CD expantion for the SNES

    Wish you guys included Out Run2 as it was an exclusive for some time and the best version of those games. Alos the arcade release of it was running on xbox hardware. I was shocked not to see it.

    I can tell you the Number one reason that this console managed to make a name for itself: Halo: Combat Evolved (2001).

    Original Xbox hardware was indeed impressive at the time.But why did it failed in the asia region?

      ps2 had everything they needed, jrpg's..., cheaper, small controllers and it's a Asia console. Canada loved Xbox, it was the best selling system here :)

      1 Not Japanese console.
      2. Bad representation of games for audience. Halo and most other games is for murikans made by murikans or europeans.

      PAINNN666 Yep if they had more japanese games like the ps2 did and controller like the x360 it will be successful.Also the OG xbox was huge so they need to slim it down.

      Not really, Japan won't support anything from Microsoft even if they owned all the companies. Just reality. 360 failed too... And that was probably the best console ever made since snes.

      microsoft was not a japanese company and xbox had very few (if any) japanese rpg's

      Because it is so short to live. They only live in 5 years and then they released X360. They also continued to make a game for Xbox cause they abandoned it and then focus to make a game for X360 instead

      I'm surprised it's network was very stable compared with the PS2's Online Service

      @@hunterkrovac I know right. Playing Halo 2 Multiplayer online, Unreal Championship online, and Counter Strike through the Xbox live network were great and be able to support an online game than PS2 did
