@GrannySquirts69 That was WWF Raw or WWF Raw 2 that allowed you to use your own music. The entire WWF/WWE Smackdown series was exclusive to PlayStation and did not have this feature.
There was never a game called "WWE smackdown 2005." all the smackdown games with smackdown in the title are: WWF SmackDown!, WWF SmackDown! 2: Know Your Role, WWF SmackDown! Just Bring It, WWE SmackDown! Shut Your Mouth, WWE SmackDown! Great video! Just a teeny tiny correction: when X360 released it didn't initially feature an HDMI port, it only had the Multi AV out. They added HDMI in the next minor revision (Zephyr motherboard) after hdtvs became more widespread
@@StratMatt777 The OG Xbox never had HDMI, period. It wasn't widely used during the OG Xbox's production run. It only really started to take off around v1.2 which released in 2005. The original Xbox was pretty much done by then. Even the 360 missed HDMI 1.2's adoption until, as mentioned, a system revision came with a 1.2 port in 2007. And @linoxyard - Just a teeny tiny correction: the AV only Xbox could actually do 1080p with a VGA adapter, plus, and I'm not 100% on this, I think the AV 360's do even output a full 1080p signal through component, it's just most TVs aren't capable of processing a 1080p via component signal. I think there are sets that can do 1080p over component but they are pretty scarce so the majority will simply display a 1080i picture when connected via that cable, but the AV Xbox 360 is capable of pushing 1080p over component and the cable itself has the ability to carry that 1080 progressive resolution.

My dad was, and still is a Playstation loyalists. Getting the original Xbox back in 6th grade was like my first act of rebellion. I got it with Stubbs, rebel without a pulse, and the original big controller with the black and white button down on the right side. Good times.
I was anti-Sony long before they joined the console races due to the shady dealings they've pulled for decades in music and movies and repeatedly trying to corner the market with a format monopoly. (Which they finally did with bluray and why movies are still so expensive) They even screwed the inventor of the Walkman, the whole _reason_ they became a household name. Sega never had a chance against Sony's cutthroat business tactics and paying developers like EA and Square to keep games off Sega's and Nintendo's systems. I still bought each PS eventually as I'm a gamer first and wanted the exclusives, but any time I had a choice I'd buy games on other platforms just because I hated supporting the company. Now that their exclusives are on PC I've had no reason to buy PS5. Fortunately I've never had to buy an Xbox either as MS aren't dicks about keeping games off PC.
I've been gaming a long time. I remember first playing pong and space invaders as a kid. The two console releases that blew me away the most were probably the original Nes with Mario (although I loved and still have my Atari 2600) and the original xbox. Halo was awesome. I had played Wolfenstein 3d, Doom, Duke and Marathon amongst others before then but the experience of the Halo games with friends just felt like a game changer. The xbox just felt so much more powerful than the other consoles available. Better graphics, games ran smoother, you could save at any point with the Max Payne release where as you had to use checkpoints on PS2. As you essentially pointed out the online gaming just blew the competition out the water. These days it is all pc gaming now on home built rigs for me but I remember my console roots fondly and still own many of the classic systems. I have modern consoles but they are for the kids. Great video and walk down memory lane sir, thank you.
hey Kurt - (or anyone:), i was wondering if you could answer a question for me. i've got every Xbox along the way to my current one (xbox 1S). here's my question - is there any reason these days to not just go pc? i've always just bought the games on disc for my xbox because i'm off grid with no internet in alaska & idaho half the year (i'm a guide/outfitter). these days can you play every title imaginary on a pc setup? is it possible to load pretty much any game on said pc/laptop hardrive and play off-line/off grid? sorry for all the slightly newbie to pc gaming questions, i could probably ask a million different people but your post really hit me. i must be a similar age cuz i too remember pong when i was really young & also remember going on vacation to hawaii with my parents in 1979 and spending more time in the hotel lobby playing space invaders than going to the beach hahahahaha. my favorite arcade game of all time was asteroids though... i liked it better than invaders then, and i'd rather play it now:))) -thanks heaps Kurt.
@@8barbies779 Hey m8, I built my first pc about 7 years ago and never looked back. Have had consoles since but they have been for the kids. The amount of games on pc dwarfs the consoles. You also have the steam platform available with hundreds of free to play games and regular sales of up to 60, 70 even 80% off games. Even recent ones. Game back catalogues are not really an issue as you do not need backwards compatability. There are also emulators that allow you to play older console games like the Mario collection etc. On my steam account there are about 270 purchased games. The majority can be played offline but there are games that can't. If you like shooters keyboard and mouse offers a significant performance upgrade in moving and aiming speed. If not just use an xbox pad. If you can make the switch to a pc/decent laptop I can't recommend it enough. Hope this helps sir 👍

Don Mattrick a former *EA* executive led the Xbox One. I just realized this may have been the massive influence to the whole 'Xbox always online' requirement. Microsoft were not completely innocent in all this, but the stench of E.A. didn't help matters much.
Don mattrick completely stomped on all the momentum the 360 built up in one giant swoop. The dude just gave the keys to Sony and then was fired. Xbox has been slowly picking up the pieces and trying to change consumers minds. Them buying up all the studios shows that they're minds are in it now. They know they can't rely on gears, halo, and forza anymore. They need to stop being so hands off when they buy studios though. You can't just buy studios then just leave them to do whatever they need some Kin of road map or guidance. Like if I was a ceo all the funding that the halo devs have would be cut, all that funding would go to id software and arkane studios for 2 new ips. Another scifi game from arkane and whatever id wants to make. I'd get the evil within devs that they own also to make a new third person shooter horror game.
Halo on PC had online play but I remember we used to rent a space in a cafeteria in Netherlands, put 4 tvs and 4 xbox together and play tournaments. AHH those were the days. In Netherlands we had broadband since 2000 but really took off in 2001. The xbox was released there in 2002.

I happened to find an original Xbox at a local charity shop several years ago. It did not have controllers, but it did have the AV and Power cables, and it only cost $8AU. I purchased it, and checked it out, and it still worked perfectly!
The original Xbox kicked ass and still does to this day. I got it on Christmas Day 2004, but it stopped working in June 2016 so I got a new one to replace it. I have hundreds of games for it, games like MechAssault, WWE RAW 2, NFL Street 2, Halo 1 and 2, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell 1-4, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon 1 and 2, Full Spectrum Warrior, True Crime: Streets of L.A., Grand Theft Auto III and Vice City, Project Gotham Racing 1 and 2, ESPN NFL 2K5, Forza Motorsport, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Midnight Club II and III, THPS 2x-4, Beyond Good and Evil and many others. The best part about the console is the custom soundtrack support, where you can put your own tracks into selected Xbox games (WWE RAW 2, Counter-Strike, ESPN NFL 2K5, NFL Street 2, Grand Theft Auto III, THPS 2-4, Dave Mirra's Freestyle BMX 2 and a few others). Xbox is such an amazing console.
I love OG xbox, my second favourite console after ps2 (ps2 wins because of it's amazing library). There are so many great and diverese titles, many of them very unique. I have modern consoles, but there is something about 6th gen that makes me most interested in that period. The video was great, subbed :)
During the original XBox market life, I only had enough to buy one console thus I never had an XBox because I was dedicated to the Nintendo GameCube. That was what my life was during my teenage years as I only had enough from helping my parents out and getting pocket money just to buy one console and 1 or 2 new games during each of my School Holidays. XBox was a console I found games I would have loved to buy if only I had enough to get more than one console. As soon as the XBox 360 was released, I got Kameo Elements of Power so I could have the game and get the XBox360 a few years later to play it once I had the money to get more than one system. Also got Dead or Alive 4 and Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 the Beach Volleyball and relaxing holiday game. JRPGs like Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey that were XBox 360 Exclusives as well as initial releases of Star Ocean: Last Hope as well as Tales of Vesparia that were originally XBox exclusives but released later on the PS3. Even if there were games I wanted on the original XBox like Conker Live and Reloaded, I felt that the XBox 360 was a better choice in the long run and I was happy to wait until I was in my 20s before I owned more than one console at a time in a console generation. But the original XBox was always a console I could have had, if only I had enough money to own more than one console at a time.

I don't understand the original comment. What "half the market" are you talking about? The PS2 sold 155 million units while the OG Xbox sold about 22 million. That's about 15% of the market. I suppose you're talking about the Xbox 360 then? But even in that case, Microsoft lost its share as soon as the 8th generation started and they haven't been close to regaining it any point so far. It makes no sense no matter how I look at it. Either way, crying about what console is better and which of the fans are worse is a pretty stupid thing to do to begin with.
Sega biggest mistake was not being partners with Sony before the first PlayStation came out and to think it would of been known as the sega PlayStation!
The xbox is basically the spiritual successor of the Dreamscast. So Sega isn't really dead in gaming, and Sega games are great like virtua fighter, they release the games in other systems, which is more than Nintendo does by keeping the games defunct to their original console so giving the customers no way of playing the games unless they own the console
Sega also had the opportunity to partner with Sony but sega of japan decline the offer due to Sony not having any experience making hardware at the time!
I noticed there was one detail left out the original xbox was 1 of the 1st consoles to allow you to rip your music on to the console and play your music while playing your game
I got one for Christmas 2005 along with Halo 2, Battlefield Modern Combat 2 and a year subscription to Xbox Live that created some of the best years of gaming in my life and now I own a Xbox Series X and my love for Microsoft keeps growing
This was a really great video, and a great retrospective on the original Xbox. Just 1 minor correction. At 39:30, it is mentioned that the 360 would include HDMI. While true on later revisions, I don't believe the launch model had HDMI.
It’s so hard to watch videos about the original Xbox. It’s just such a marker of my life. I was 13 and had my entire life in front of me. The sleek green cases for the games that sported the orange “Xbox live” stripe and the coveted yellow “ONLY FOR XBOX” stamp. Me and my younger brother played halo for hours a day for a long time. Then came halo 2 which took me into online gaming for the first time. Then halo 3… then I joined the military… then my brother joined… and then all the sudden it’s 20 years later and I’m married with 5 children. Where does the time go? I’ll always thank the team who made Xbox a possible for the countless memories. Pitiful me to see the state of Xbox now.

One small fact to point out, Microsoft didn't exist until the contract for BASIC for the Altair 8800. Bill Gates and Pail Allen were students at Harvard at the time. Having had a past in developing simple systems, when they read in a magazine that MITS Electronics was holding a contest for the first implementation of BASIC on the Altair 8800 would get the contract. They coded an emulator on a PDP system the DOD had loaned to Harvard and wrote BASIC against that emulator. On the flight to NM, Paul Allen remembered that they had forgotten to write a routine to load the paper-tape, which was essential at the time as computers at the time did not have a BIOS or a boot loader, so he punched one in by hand on the plane ride there. The loader routine worked, BASIC worked, and Bill and Paul dropped out of college to form Microsoft, a company that would license programming languages.
The Atari Jaguar was ahead of its time. The Jaguar had every bit of the power as Ps1 and N64. Not only that, but the sound on the Jaguar sounds just as good as ps1 and Saturn, which is surprising for a cartridge based system.

Hopefully you can find Forza Motorsports on ebay. You can find a code online that gives you a million dollars.... It's "T3amForza" or something similar to that. If you like Ferrari Testarossa, 288GTO, F40 and 550 Maranello, that is the game you want.
Skyrim music in the background made the video. Very subtle, yet perfect.
The soundtrack is actually from Morrowind and yeah its great
I've been gaming a long time.

I never thought about it this way holy shit

The Kinect came for free bundled with the console, you don't have to use it you know it's not like all xbox games require the kinect to be played. yet d***as**s like to create drama and insult other people for no reason just to create stupid drama. Any person that talks shit about the kinect is like that and they need to grow up
Kinect is good bcuz you can exercise
@@techstoryph7245 I do admit Kinect was great on the just dance games which was funny as hell drinking with some friends and trying to dance LOL
Soooo Thank you Jurassic Park Trespasser; You've done more for gaming than you know XD

Aah, the famous clock capacitor leakage in the first xbox - oh the memories
Geez. Imagine if ms took Nintendo's 25 billion dollar offer...
Loved this video, loving every video from you so far.
Hopefully you've done a Nintendo 64 one aswell. 😊
Where is Atari , What happend to them ?
Now that's a story for another day. Gonna be awhile before I can devote enough time for Atari!
Atari for the most part is dead . Last I heard the brand got bought out
They're a Hot mess now
The stock crash wasn't to do with the lawsuit, it was to do with the tech bubble crash..
thank yo so much for history on consoles i now have gained one brain cell for gaming
The problem with the Jaguar is it released 3 years earlier than the N64. Jag and N64 both had 64 bits. The Jag just released ahead of its time...The industry didn't know how to develope games for it because the technology was too new. If you look at games like Raymond and compare them to the Saturn and ps1 copies, you can tell the Jag had power. Developers just didn't know how to tap into it, so you got garbage games with garbage graphics.
Jaguar had two 32 bit processors... it was not 64 bit.
@@kskeebs94xx You're wrong. I suggest you do your research!!
@@thegamingchef3304 No, she's right. Jaguar technically had two 32 bit processors rather than one 64 bit processor.
@@HardcoreGamer4Ever 32+32=64. Both those processors were made to work together. The design is what made it hard for developers to tap into its full potential. Go to bed lolol.
@@HardcoreGamer4Ever yup one sound32 and one grafix 32 does NOT equal 64. The jaguar was shitty, a lie, lacking esxlusive games, poorgraphics, pricey and a terrible controller. Also poor marketing and atari being a z-tier gamecompany.
I couldn't pick just one console from that generation. Loved 'em all.
PS2 for me all the way. But then I got a 360 a year later got an HD monitor and never looked back
