@Spegimation Wasn't the iphone 10 around $1k. At $750 w/ inflation the ps3 is still cheaper. The only logical argument would be that phones are generally more important hardware than consoles.
@Spegimation The target audience is very different. Iphones are considered as luxury items, while consoles are the Corolla of the gaming industry. Cheap, mediocre and pretty common. Not as the iphones aren't common, but apple makes people believe they are exclusive or something.
Many phones today are filled with better HD tech, and better camera quality tech, which overall makes them cost a lot. That is just the 2 big extras in phones. With consoles, you just need a tv, which most people that have a home have. The consoles are only made to read the disc, send that to the tv, which displays it on the screen. The reason why the consoles are so expensive, yet cheaper than a lot of the newer phones, is because they don't have any really extra stuff that phones have. BUT, if you put a X-Box 1 or PS4 and a tv together, they equal out to be pretty close to being as expensive as the new IPhone. So in reality, they both equal out to being the same.
One of my strongest memories of my late grandfather was around 2016 he asked why we had an Xbox 360 and no games. (we only ever had like 6, dad stopped playing consoles) This man just opened it up right there and just messed with it for like 20 minutes, never touching one before, and fixed it.

I had to send my Xbox 360 for repairs a total of 7 TIMES! On the 7th time, the customer service guy said my unit has been repaired too many times so they gave me a brand new 360 lmao
Dan the Man | Funny Videos! Had that happen too. Wasnt sent that many times, but i owned 3 xbox 360s ( myself and twin sons) and 2 out of 3 RROD. Sent my one sons twice and mine once. While i still prefer my the xbox brand over PlayStation, always have, but no denying this was the worst hardware issue of any console. It was so bad that everyone i knew, that were early adopters of the 360, were victim to the rrod
+knightofdreamz Yeah when I sent my 360 in a got one back with a new/wiped hard drive. Was mad I lost all my saves. I've always assumed it was a different refurbished console.

Mine went in three times. My console was never crammed into an entertainment center or anything; just open air. I finally got one of those Arcade models and it is still kicking.
CoolBreeze90210 my Xbox is over 10 years old and still works. It was used for many hours everyday for about 5 years, until I got an xbox one - then I started barely using it. That’s probably why it still hasn’t died. I use it to play old games and watch movies occasionally.
Hey man , recently had the same experience with my xbox 360 . what i did ( works 90 % of the time ) was taking the console apart , cleaning the fans (dont use compressed air ,it could break the fans ) . And changing the thermal paste (extra) . Should work , atleast it did for me.
Funnily enough, the RROD happened to me SO freaking often, the deliveryman came to recognize me easily given how often I had to send the console back to repairs. Hell, I had RROD happen even when I was just booting up Halo 3 for the first time ever. As noted, it was Microsoft increasing the warranty's lifespan as well as paying upfront for delivery what made me stick to the console, and love it for all its flaws. As much as I hate corporations, that was honestly a goodwill act that made me trust the brand a lot at the time. It honestly pained me to have to finally pack up my 360 and its games for one last time. For all its problems, it was one of my favorite consoles ever.
@@aurastrike i guess the "hardware problem" was because i plugged it into a surge protector with a lot of other consoles into it so it didnt get enough power idk
So I was gifted an Xbox 360 a couple years ago from a friend of mine. After about 2 months of using it, it got the RROD. I looked everywhere on YT and couldn't find an answer. Then I found it. A random video by a 12 year old saying that all I needed to do, was get only half of the red ring. In his video, all he has to do was take/scrape off the end of a Q-Tip, then stick it into the fan so the fan would stop and give me half of the red ring, and when you get half of the red ring, it activates an automatic system reboot, removing all problems with the console. I was so happy, so happy that I now keep those Q-Tips in the Xbox 360's case, everywhere I go incase I ever get it again.
@gabriel sanchez it is very easy to not do it correctly though, I know from multiple experiences of friends ruining their 360's because they were too impatient to send it in
That's because it wasn't actually a red ring of death. The red lights can blink in different orders to indicate other problems, like your A/V cables not being plugged in.
Both my 360s have red ring and the disc drives wont even open to get the game out its a joke :( they both worked out em in storage for a year got em back out the ova day n they was both red ringed :(

I don't need to put more fans in because for whatever reason neither of my Xbox consoles have ever died. I remembered when my Red ringed, I was terrified of it happening, but by the time it occurred they had the process down smooth. They sent me a another one & I simply returned mine in the same box with the included prepaid shipping label. Was actually extremely easy. Microsoft although had ample opportunity to fix the issues before it got that bad, in the end they really did do the right thing for the customer. That's one of the main reasons I've been a loyal Xbox weenie since day 1. I've owned the original, the original 360 (that red ringed & was replaced) & I sold on eBay to pay for the Halo 3 Edition 360, One, One S traded all three in towards the Halo Edition One, I traded that one in towards the One X on launch Day. Now I'm just waiting for the Series X to launch...
At least they took care of you! 🤗 The true mark of a good company isn't how often things go right, it's how they take care of you when things go wrong! 😇
Yeah I remember mine too. It was something like 8 or 9 at night when my Elite finally red ringed after having given a lot of service for a couple of years. I called and spoke to someone when it happened and they set me up for the replacement unit. The biggest problem for me though is that I didn’t have a credit card at the time on which for them to place a hold for the swap. So I had to wait until they received my faulty unit before they would ship the replacement. I was over a month without the console before it finally made it back to me. That was a pretty terrible month as I had gotten rid of all my more modern game consoles at that point. I had to go all the way back to the N64 and Super Nintendo to have something to play.
About two of mine have died, but my third one's been excellent for the 6 years that I've had it. My only qualms is that there's the two versions that can't play other PS2 games. Really bugs me.
dangerous1989 Less parts in them and more simple, especially the PS2 Slim. Pretty much the same with the Original Xbox as well ! Although I think the lasers for reading the discs can be dodgy sometimes in the PS2's , but they are cheap and easy to replace.
WAIT... I remember playing on my Xbox 360 when i was younger and leaving it on while I ate dinner... I can back to see that it was completely broken... I thought that was because I left it on. Was it perhaps the red ring of death?
I have a fun story. My father won an XBOX before launch in the big microsoft/mountain dew event beforehand. It lasted until we sold it in around 2012/2013, and so until today, I had never heard about the red ring of death. I guess we got lucky. EDIT: I didn't think this was relevant before, but I'm putting it in anyway. My dad actually won the console by going through the trash cans at his office and finding all of the mountain dew caps inside, because a lot of people there drank it. He then, since there was one every hour, submitted them all within one hour, and won.
Cool story. It's possible the ones they gave away were from a good batch which didn't have any problems. The system ran hot because of bad thermal design but the actual point of failure was the lead-free solder they used. It basically started to crack and the CPU and/or GPU would lose contact with the PCB. They could have used better solder on some batches like the ones they gave away, which would explain why they lasted longer.
@@hattrickster33 They weren't allowed to use leaded solder. Lead free is usually fine, really the problem is the the lithography of the processors. They got too hot. I've repaired these professionally and while replacing the solder with leaded can help, they still tend to fail again.
I'll never forget. I woke up and threw a CD in my 360 to listen to before work. Boom, red ring. Extremely saddened, bought a PS3 and skipped the Xbone. Not sure if I'll get the current one, maybe later on but I'm happy with the PS5 atm. Had a lotta good times with the 360, loved that damn thing.

Aiden one of the potential causes for the red ring is a power cable that's not inserted all the way. If it red rings less than a second after it turns on, then it's a power cable issue
Microsoft is lucky this all went down pre-social media explosion. If social media were as as thoroughly integrated into society in 2006 as it is in the present, the 360 Would've been DOA
Yeah, can you imagine how the internet would have responded if Crowbat made a video on the Xbox 360 red ring DURING this time? Hell, ever since his Nintendo Switch video people are now just assuming ALL Switch consoles are faulty. Couldn't imagine how bad that would be for the 360.
Bottom Glass Cinema What's the fail rate of the Switch? 2%? The long-term failure rate of the 360 was what, 90%? People are just hysterical these days...
TheBlackRavenclaw interesting postulation, but I think what you really mean is MEMES and REDDIT... because MySpace was already dead and Facebook was in full force by the time the 360 released
Yeah I meant the full integration of social media into everyday life - which was still a few years away. The gamer community on RUclips in particular wasn't really established in earnest yet. It was definitely enough to wound the 360, but in a world where headlines and culture generate on Twitter and Reddit faster than in traditional media, the 360 might not have .
+NRK MKW no, hes right. compared to today, social media was a baby. you had myspace and fb was considered the lame site, twitter wasnt as big as it is now and that was pretty much it, today everyone has a smartphone where they can constantly check their handful of social media apps like fb, instagram, snapchat, twitter, and whatever else there is.

@@ryanishungry7409 No it wasn't. The best version of the PS3 was the launch version (also known as "the phat") which is counter intuitive, i know. Usually later versions are better. It was built out of more expensive materials, had touch sensors, made less fan noise because it was better ventilated and most important of all... It was backwards compatible with PS1 and PS2 since it literally had the PS2 chips inside as well while the slims did not and could only play PS1. As far as I remember it had more USB slots as well. Overall it was just more expensive to manufacture so the later versions cut down on some of the features to reduce costs.
The problem with the 360 was a super easy fix . It was all due to the fact that all the fans airflow was going to the cpu and not the gpu . I have successfully fixed and modded hundreds of Xbox 360 at the time by just adding a plastic divider in the fan shroud so that the airflow was devided into 2 streams , one to the cpu and one to the gpu . Its failure was all due to a simple issue of basic mechanics. Because the shroud had been altered to make way for the standard size cd rom by making the gpu side 1/3rd the size of the cpu side ! The airflow was no longer evenly distributed between both the cpu and gpu and it all went to the cpu , basic mechanics that was obvious to anyone who had ever experienced airflow issues with their car etc . A simple piece of plasic glued into the shroud meant that now both the cpu and gpu would receive air . A case of to many geniuses and not a single basic mechanic to realise the airflow problem. Cheers to all who understand the simplicity of the fix . Ps my units have lasted and are still running strong today.
If the fix to preventing an old Xbox 360 Core model from getting red rings was to barely modify the internal fan, why the actual fuck did I never hear about it, or anyone around me who also owned Xbox's during that time period?? >>:''''''(((

My launch 360 never red ringed, even after six years. What killed it was the disk door jamming, followed by a small child brutally murdering it with a can of Pepsi.
If my Xbox 360 jams, I just hit the top of it and the disc tray comes out fine. Overheating is an issue of I put too much stuff on top of it, but other than that, it works just fine.
To think that they only had to spend 2 Million for test hardware and they could have prevented this. Instead, it costed them Billions for warranty and returns.

@@rav1997 I disagree. PlayStation is a company built off corruption and greed. Not saying Xbox haven't done it in the past but as of right now the Xbox One X kills any PlayStation in terms of specs and performance, the X is also the closest platform to the PC. That happened to me, ruined one of my discs of Blue Dragon back when that was new. I learned from that though, and I've never moved the console when it was on again. Or any console really.
While this is true, it can also happen totally randomly on its own. I fondly remember playing through Sonic 2006 with a friend over at my place (we love laughing at shitty games) with the 360 just lying on the floor and me using the wireless controller. Out of nowhere, horrible crunching noise, game stopped. Take the disc out and it's got the circular scratch. Thankfully the Video Ezy did DVD buffing and that made the disc playable again. We joked that the console couldn't handle any more of that awful game and decided to sabotage the disc.
Yep, that happened to my friend as well. Our Halo 3 disk got scratched to hell. Couldn't read it at all after that one tiny move from one level of a shelf to another.
Even after everything that has happened with the Xbox 360, I still think it’s the greatest console of all time. The games, the controller, the daily use, the OS, the media, the players, the hardware, and the support. So many things made this a good console, if this thing didn’t have the red ring issue, it would’ve become an absolute legend. Even the original Xbox 360 with the red ring issue was reliable without the airflow issue. These things were absolute units. And they will forever sit in my heart on a podium as the truly ultimate console. It still has great looking games even after 15 years.
GMLY yo i even dropped mine atleast 3ft to hardwood off a desk. Put it back upside down because it was dark. Ruined my mw2 disk lol. Xbox was fine though.
Man, what a story! Like two gladiators fighting! My original Xbox 360 never had the red ring of death but only because of the cool temperatures we have where I live, what killed my 360 was when I was playing in summer on hot days playing Red Dead Redemption and the GPU slowly and progressively died due to overheating, it never completely stopped working, but started to become unplayable. What a legend.
Melody Storm This is probably what happened to mine! I loved my Xbox 360 to death (Oof close to literally) and due to my climate having insanely cold winters and unbearably hot summers, my Xbox died in the summer. It never gave a red ring, but I became unable to play games like Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts and Viva Piñata, two of my favorite all time games. In fact, I couldn’t play Minecraft anymore either. Or anything else. I could still turn on the system and play downloaded games, but not discs. Eventually I couldn’t play my Xbox all together; sold it at GameStop for 3 bucks or something.
My dad bought my brother and I a 360 like a year after launch. We were so excited to finally have it. We brought it home, plugged it in, began to set up live, and 3 red ring, hardware failure lol. Called gamestop to complain and they were like "yeah you gotta call Microsoft" We didn't even get it to dashboard before it red ringed and we had to wait a few months before we got our replacement. Good times
Playing on the 360 was a pivotal moment in my childhood, and probably the happiest iv been. The IRL friends iv made on it and online friends will never reach that height again. Il probably never be as happy again to be honest, the excitement of Skyrim coming out, playing Reach all day… Oh man. I then switched to PS4 and now back to the Series S. I still get the jitters turning my Series S on, remembering what it was like playing my 360.
Microsoft is a confusing company. They have such a monopoly on Operating Systems, they have the money and time to develop something until it is perfect, and more advanced than anything else, and even sell it at a loss. But instead, they cut corners, the zune, their phone os, early tablets, and so on. It's amazing the console even lasted.
It's kind of amazing that Microsoft made a top-tier console. Nintendo has been in the hardware and software (specifically game design) business since the early 80s (and basically makes all of the major games on their consoles), Sony was primarily a hardware manufacturer (do they even have their own first party games?), and Microsoft was 100% a software company until the Xbox launched (which is one reason I was so hesitant to hop on that hype train...I'm a Nintendo fangirl and only bought a 360 for Guitar Hero III and Rock Band because the Wii versions were so terrible). And just think, if Nintendo a. kept their deal with Sony and the Playstation was a SNES add-on and maintained all of the awesome third party support and b. adapted their business practice to be more inclusive of outside software developers once optical discs became the medium of choice, Nintendo would have choked the life out of every potential rival console before they could even launch (especially after Sega crashed hard on the Saturn). And Microsoft wanted to be the first console of the next generation. They knew they had no chance to compete with the PS2, so the quicker they got their Gen7 system out, the easier it would be to get the one-console-only crowd. They definitely feared the PS3 being just as dominant as the PS2, and if the PS3 launched first, the 360 would have been the TurboGrafx16 or Atari Jaguar of that generation.
It's not all about research, business does not work this way. You have to start making money at some point, you can't fund 15 years or more of development without any way to make at least compensations - Don't forget, employees working in other projects of Microsoft can not fully assist in any development, as they have another (more money making) job. You will have to hire new people, hundreds of them. For years with no payback. Microsoft ain't the state.
@Bobby Jones your school must have specialized in xboxs with that specific problem then,i used to do electronic repair years ago and got ALOT of 360s and almost 95% of them the problem was the disk drive. the other 5% were dipshits who thought modding their systems was a good idea and damaged it in one way or another
Three lit up segments of the ring = ring of death, signals error with hardware. Four lit up segments/complete red ring = you don't have any controllers connected to the Xbox.
Malachi C I got 3 a couple times... my Xbox box is an original I think... has a 120G storage and the disk tray doesn’t come out until I hit it a couple of times...

2. Remove the red LED.
3. No red LED = no ring of death.

With consoles, you just need a tv, which most people that have a home have. The consoles are only made to read the disc, send that to the tv, which displays it on the screen.
Wow! I only had to send mine in 3 times. I guess I'm lucky! Went with PS4 this generation because I wanted a reliable console.

I was so happy, so happy that I now keep those Q-Tips in the Xbox 360's case, everywhere I go incase I ever get it again.
did you thank that kid

Yes, seems like such a simple issue to fix and I can't believe they didn't realize it before it shipped.

I have a xbox 360 since 2005 around the launch date and still works I think mine is the longest lasting 360 console ever
Graceshot YT I still have my 360 for the day it came out lol
TakeoutLemon937 k
TakeoutLemon937 You're a fucking lier. Ur voice in ur Roblox videos sounds like u we're not even alive when the console even came out.
2005 is the year I was born

I've always been a PlayStation kid, so I never really thought to give Xbox a try. Now that I'm grown, it's interesting to catch up on all of the stuff I'd missed! I'd heard about the red ring stuff but I was young enough at the time that I didn't really care lol. I really appreciate how in-depth this was, as someone who's kind of a noob to Xbox. Okay that's enough outta me, great video man :D
Red Ring Of Death is just a “Cool” way to say Your console is broken
My launch 360 never red ringed, even after six years. What killed it was the disk door jamming, followed by a small child brutally murdering it with a can of Pepsi.
Even PC can't stand against a small child with Pepsi
Computer Nerd 128 So you can kill it in "self defense."
smashhawk mine was just a disk door jamming and soon resulted in a red ring. I lost my hitman game in it
If my Xbox 360 jams, I just hit the top of it and the disc tray comes out fine. Overheating is an issue of I put too much stuff on top of it, but other than that, it works just fine.
Mine had disk jamming problems too, eventually the tray stopped opening.
Looking back on this makes me miss the good old days.
BIGWORM 510
Yup. But I gotta admit, I’ll give up the good old days for games like today. Even if it means tearing my soul in half to pay for it
To think that they only had to spend 2 Million for test hardware and they could have prevented this. Instead, it costed them Billions for warranty and returns.
Yup. I’m pretty sure they learned from this really well!
My Xbox red ringed then my stepbrother yelled for my mom. She pressed the power button and turned it back on. It still works just fine.
notaphan then it was a normal "tier 3 error" not a RROD
notaphan the rrod can also be caused by an improperly inserted power cable.
You : letz play som moder warfare

bro: the xbox is broken mom :

@@Luca-ci8sd lmfao rofl Xbox One X is not even selling more than Nintendo Switch Lmfao Rofl kiki
Luca lets be real Xbox is not fun because there are no game on it that will make you enjoy 4K and the only game people buy Xbox is forza don’t act like you don’t know this is what I hear from every Xbox owner just for forza
@@Luca-ci8sd i dont get why people would buy xbox. xbox is a fail everywhere in the world except US. if you go to japan, some people dont what what is an xbox haha. xbox is a joke. the real gaming units are either PC which is known worldwide, or the playstation which is known worldwide. only US knows xbox. and we all know US is a joke as well, so xbox is a joke.
@@rav1997 I disagree. PlayStation is a company built off corruption and greed. Not saying Xbox haven't done it in the past but as of right now the Xbox One X kills any PlayStation in terms of specs and performance, the X is also the closest platform to the PC. Not only all of that but Sony is also responsible for not allowing cross-platform matchmaking and other greedy moves like PS Now. (Though Cross-Plat with other consoles changed with Fortnite)
While it kills Xbox is sales, Xbox is still headed down a much better direction than Sony, think about the future.
Make no haste, I'm not a Xbox "fanboy" I actually owned a PS4 until I sold it for a new phone and keyboard for my PC, just in recent developments I'd much prefer an Xbox over PS4 any day.
And the US is a joke? Have you seen some of the weirdest shit in other countries on a real talk?
Tentacles, lots and lots of tentacle porn.
One Hardware issue i remember is that, when you move a running Xbox with a Disc inside that it damages the disc
2ExtremeReviews it damn sure did. ruined my copy of Guitar Hero 3.
2ExtremeReviews
The disc drive was made so poorly it didn't even have typical disc-protective thingamajigs.
I I got red ringed a bunch of times on one single Xbox
Solution : Just unplug the system

First time a saw a red ring on my Xbox my hand moved faster than the speed of light to the plug and yanked it out 🤣
O welp my 360 has never done that o.o
It’s 13 years old now I think?

Mine was made in 2007 and is still gong strong.
Ah making me miss my 250 gb elite.
Was going strong till 2013, fucking tornados.
Mine has never had a red ring of death at all, but it gave a ring around some of my Xbox 360 discs or scratched them leading to them being unplayable
GMLY yo i even dropped mine atleast 3ft to hardwood off a desk. Put it back upside down because it was dark. Ruined my mw2 disk lol. Xbox was fine though.
greenthumb lol that's one tough xbox
Are you fn kidding me still going till this day wow
Man, what a story! Like two gladiators fighting! My original Xbox 360 never had the red ring of death but only because of the cool temperatures we have where I live, what killed my 360 was when I was playing in summer on hot days playing Red Dead Redemption and the GPU slowly and progressively died due to overheating, it never completely stopped working, but started to become unplayable.
What a legend.
Melody Storm
This is probably what happened to mine!
Good times
I still remember FPS Russia shooting an X Box with red ring
Da lol

Yes I noticed that too
STBC SniperZ nah that games an a classic
Pododododo Ehoh i still play it on the xbox one
Playing on the 360 was a pivotal moment in my childhood, and probably the happiest iv been. The IRL friends iv made on it and online friends will never reach that height again. Il probably never be as happy again to be honest, the excitement of Skyrim coming out, playing Reach all day… Oh man. I then switched to PS4 and now back to the Series S. I still get the jitters turning my Series S on, remembering what it was like playing my 360.
Congratulations on making this video! Detailed research, beautiful writing, amazing editing, it's pro from all points of view. Keep up the good work!
Microsoft is a confusing company. They have such a monopoly on Operating Systems, they have the money and time to develop something until it is perfect, and more advanced than anything else, and even sell it at a loss. But instead, they cut corners, the zune, their phone os, early tablets, and so on. It's amazing the console even lasted.
they are a software company. consoles and the other things you listed are hardware.
Watcha playin on?

It's not all about research, business does not work this way. You have to start making money at some point, you can't fund 15 years or more of development without any way to make at least compensations - Don't forget, employees working in other projects of Microsoft can not fully assist in any development, as they have another (more money making) job. You will have to hire new people, hundreds of them. For years with no payback. Microsoft ain't the state.
Actually, on second thought, the microsoft surface pro is kinda a tablet, but I think they actually did quite well with it in my opinion.
The only reason red ring happened to people is two things...
"You did not leave it flat and you did not allow the system to be fully ventilated" lol
Damn, I’m speechless.
The 360 was garbage. Having separate storage? WTF!?
@Bobby Jones your school must have specialized in xboxs with that specific problem then,i used to do electronic repair years ago and got ALOT of 360s and almost 95% of them the problem was the disk drive. the other 5% were dipshits who thought modding their systems was a good idea and damaged it in one way or another
Microsoft didn’t even know the source of the problem lmao
This is in my recommendations after 3 years
Can I just say the only thing I can focus on the Xbox RRing in the back ground XD....
You noticed too?
I did dat to
My Xbox 360 always red rings and it never dies.... idk why it doesn’t die for good...
Do you get 4 red lights or 3?
Three lit up segments of the ring = ring of death, signals error with hardware.
Four lit up segments/complete red ring = you don't have any controllers connected to the Xbox.
Malachi C I got 3 a couple times... my Xbox box is an original I think... has a 120G storage and the disk tray doesn’t come out until I hit it a couple of times...
Same with me
Because it's God
You And I both seem to love castle crashers.
Castle crashers is such a good game, me and my friends used to play it for hours and hours lol
why don't you just put it in a fridge while playing the Xbox you will never have to worry about it overheating again
This is the opposite of your goal it will eat all your food therefore overeating
well then just spray with a fire hydrant
@@euanpc3322 that still doesnt solve your xbox's overeating problem lol look at your comment you said overeating not overheating
