on the school girl subject , unbelievably Robert plant was 19 when he sang this song , schoolgirls go up to 18 in the UK( i don't know about the us) so there is nothing untoward, don't panic. Girls were regularly married at 16 in the senventies. Actually RP was already married . This song is from the first album which was produced published and financed by Jimmy Page without a record label. they toured the songs in London and then Scandinavia as the New yardbirds and then as led zep.For a live performance of this song try the Danmark TV version - you'll b eseeing LZ as they were first seen and also seeing what Jimmy Page does with the violin bow.its an astounding introduction. Jimmy Page had been a session musician prior to jing The yardbirds and then forming LZ.Hr alks about the constraint of having to stick to a single tempo and wanted to break away from that, this song is a prime example of that its a roller coaster and that became a defining quality of led Zeppelin music - transitions, drops and dead stops - its a whirlwind . Another good song to check out is what is and what should bnever be which is like being coaxed then swept off your feet. They didn't release singles , this is how good the album tracks are, they were an album band .
Best way to enjoy Zeppelin is to grow as they did, starting from the first song, first album, then each and every track until you reach the last track on the last album, you won't be disappointed, and you'll have Led Zeppelin fans throughout your journey
That is the best way if you are a beginner but as you know ,isn't it amazing how most bands have 2-3 great tracks on each album but Zepp has 4-5 ,even more on EVERY album ????????????? :)
@Newfie-zc7ug That's what distinguishes great bands, having an entire album with amazing music throughout, not many can do it, 70's Pink Floyd, mid to late 60's Beatles albums, first 3 albums of Bad Company, first album of Boston, and the list dwindles from there, however I'm sure I'm missing a few great artists that had a complete album of outstanding music
The lyrics are basically "how many more times are you gonna treat me bad, after I give you everything (rings, pearls, etc.) It was a common trope of blues songs to sing about the "good man" and the "evil woman" that done him wrong. Someone else described Robert's singing as that he "floats" his singing across the music. The title is a nod to Howlin' Wolf's song "How Many More Years" and came about from bits and pieces Jimmy had, per this quote: In an interview he gave to Guitar World magazine in 1993, Page stated that the song "was made up of little pieces I developed when I was with the Yardbirds, as were other numbers such as 'Dazed and Confused'. It was played live in the studio with cues and nods." That wasn't a harmonica in the middle section; it's Jimmy using a violin bow on the guitar. The "schoolgirl" reference was just a saying of the time, like calling your significant other "baby girl". The Rosie/Hunter sections were spontaneous additions the day of recording. "The Hunter" section comes from bluesman Albert King with Booker T & the MGs. Near the end, Robert sings "how many more times, barrelhouse all night long" a "barrelhouse" has been a term in other blues songs and was a bar or saloon (sometimes a brothel) that had lively jazz, dancing, and cheap booze so "to barrelhouse" would be to go to a juke joint for raucous jazz, dancing, and boozing...and maybe some "company". Jimmy produced all their albums very well in that he usually made the entire band sound good. He doesn't get nearly as much credit for his production prowess as he should. This number f*cking *SWINGS*! PS - PLEASE do not pause during a guitar solo!
We who love Zeppelin are used to long songs...especially improvised live...Dazed And Confused live at msg in 1973 was 28 minutes of MAGNIFICENCE!! They played 3 ir 4 hour concerts!
I don’t think the school girl is what people think. Another great song called Ten Years Gone, is about a young love Plant had, I’d say he was likely 16 or 17. I’m not saying the two songs are linked, but in that a young love made him choose her or his music. He was dating his wife from about age 18, they married in November (1968). Robert turned 20 the day after their first rehearsal, which took place on August 19,1968.
All their songs were jam sessions. They were a touring band and soon stopped having opening acts as they extended songs and tried to play their popular early songs and their new ones and would play for 3- 3 1/2 hours
If you like harmonica then you should listen to When the Levee Breaks, Bring it on Home and You Shook Me. But I recommend starting from song 1 album 1 and going from there. Great reaction, I'll sub for a zepathon.😊
Your 3rd Led Zeppelin, I subscribe, I’ll unsubscribe if you stop doing Zeppelin. Plant’s vocal range tone & textures, are always perfect for every song. Jimmy often has more than one solo, & even better ones live. They are great improvisations live, & each live for a song is never the same.thank you again for your reaction.
The part you are wondering whats making the sound is why you should watch the live version. Spoiler, it is a bow on guitar, not sure if violin or cello.
There real popular hits are albums not singles, unless you are talking about the songs that radio stations would play, mostly influenced by length and record labels pushing them.

Yes yes yes!!!!
@@juliemanarin4127 Hi Julie haven't seen you for a while- hope you are good, sue
That opening bass line! I play it every time I pick up my bass.

Yes, "every member shines". That's by design. Jimmy Page had a clear vision of what and how he wanted Led Zeppelin to be. Pure genius.
Don't worry about the meaning of the songs. Just enjoy the music and after listening to them again you'll pick up on the meaning.
Thanks for the Led Zeppelin
My favorite band since 69❤
The greatest band ever ❤
Mine too!! At 65 years of age today...I can't get enough of them!!!
I saw Led Zeppelin in Oakland California July 23rd 1977❤❤❤
Every live version is different, they're the greatest live band ever with incredible improvisations.
Absolutely!
Led Zeppelin for ever!✊🏻💯❤❤❤❤
The weird sound is Jimmy playing electric guitar using a cello bow. Genius
They are each the greatest at all the instruments they played...song writing...and JPJ and Jimmy arranging and Jimmy producing every album!!
We who love Zeppelin are used to long songs...especially improvised live...Dazed And Confused live at msg in 1973 was 28 minutes of MAGNIFICENCE!! They played 3 ir 4 hour concerts!
Sometimes it’s just better to listen, & listen again with the lyrics.
My very favorite is the song remains the same/ rain song. Madison square garden live 1973
That's my favourite too. That transition between these two songs is just awesome!! Emotional!

Badass 😊😊😊
I enjoyed your reaction. Alot of times listening to the lyrical versions is a good thing to do first. Thats just my opinion.😉
Stay safe.❤
Good reaction. Bring It On Home & Nobodies Fault But Mine are 2 you'd enjoy by LZ. ❤ Stay safe
The sounds you heard when said "What's that sound" is Jimmy Page with a cello bow and an electric guitar.
It’s Jimmy with a violin bow on his guitar.!!
Robert Plant sings in SLOW Motion ❤😮
If you like harmonica then you should listen to When the Levee Breaks, Bring it on Home and You Shook Me. But I recommend starting from song 1 album 1 and going from there.

Plant is famous for singing in slow motion

The eyes are windows to the soul. If all we can see is the peak of your cap, we can’t see any reaction.
The school girl is his daughter

You stop the song too many times
