Caught a 40+ pounds 112 cm grasscarp with floating bread and it was the strongest fish i’ve ever caught these things when active are like torpedos in the water.
Would love to know where this is Duncan! Been lookong for somewhere to catch a big grassie for the last few years. Im in Surrey so hoping to find something local. Happy for you to PM if you dont want to make it public. Tight lines 👌🏼
Hi Mike, It's Mill Lane controlled by FAS which also has Badshot Lea Big Pond on its books that contains a few good Grass Carp so both close to you. If you join mention my name as a referral as it might be beneficial to both of us!
@duncancharmanangling1136 brilliant cheers mate! Was a FAS member a few years back and caught some small grassies out of badshot but would love a go for those bigguns so maybe have to rejoin. Will give you a mention, thanks for the help.
The lake I fish has a few grass carp in Caught one just over14lb last year on meat Went off like a rocket round an island with me in tow , followed by a mega fight Was as calm as anything on unhooking mat Total opposite of everything I’ve ever read
Very nice! Which country is this? Well I’m go to tell a true story here in the USA, Colorado to be exact. Grass Carp. We used small Marshmallows that floated with a floating bobber. Anyways this true story was when I was about 17 or 18yrs of age. (I’m now 47) It was a power plant lake. Every cast with a bass spinner lure was a large mouth bass monster! The cast would not even touch the water yet and the bass would jump and take it out of the sky! Every large mouth bass we caught there was no smaller than 18” and as big as 30” for a large mouth bass. You can fit 2 adult size fist in that large mouth bass, that was crazy!! I want to say it was definitely a record and we was too young and dumb to claim such trophy status. Well we started to see large dorsal fins out about 50 yards out. From the dorsal fin to the back of the tail had to been at least 4ft to 5ft long. Well that is when my cousin said let’s catch it. So we saw the big fishes eat cotton balls that float across the lake cause the wind blew them off the trees into lake. The cousin said I got marshmallows! So we rigged up a #2 hook with bobber on a 10ib braided line. We cast it out there and within 1min we got one! It was like a thunder in the lake splashing. We fight this grass carp for over 10min until it tired. We got it close to the shore and this thing was monstrous! We all looked at each other and said…😅 You go get! Lmao! No one wanted to because of the size of this fish! It’s eye 👁️ balls was about the size of a cows eyes. Its girth was 40inches round and we measured it to be 4ft 11inches. This thing weighed 56ib on our scale which was maxed. Well the 2nd one we couldn’t bring in and this fishes was even bigger!!! Every time we got it 10ft from shore, it would jet splash back into deep waters. That went on for 30min and we meaning the 4 of us was taking turns trying to reel in this monster with 10ib braided. Well the only glimpse of this monster was his head, dorsal fin and tail at 10ft out in the water was at least 6ft and over 100lb the because it was a tank! It finally bent our hook and that my friend was the MONSTER that got away, till this day I wish I can still have it back! 😭😭😭 Grass Carp are no joke when they get that big and it was GODZILLA because of the power plant! Yikes!!! I just wanted to leave a true story here for everyone.
Anyone know where I can buy a very few live young grass carp? I've a 450m² pond that's rammed with Canadian pondweed, and I understand these will graze it to manageable levels.
Grassys are mostly herbivores so any particle will work. If theres lots of nuisance fish bring some tigernuts. They love em. Ronnie rigs work well with getting the hook in on a good angle
People don't like them caught my 1st grass carp over 37 odd years ago loved them ever since .

Thank you...
(bottom bait or bait placed in mid water will be best for catching grass carp?)
that is a NOPE bug. Also known as don't touch it because it will probably irritate your skin or worse !
Thanks mate, always was told not to touch brightly coloured insects etc...
