Make your practice time efficient. No matter how much time you practice, you have to make sure it’s efficient. You can sit there for hours and come out accomplished and you can measure your progress. Let me know if you’ve tried this method before and let me know if it’s working for you.
I appreciate your content so much! I've been stuck in 180 for a while and I've really needed to restructure my practice methods and you have been a huge, HUGE help, thank you!!
So glad you posted a video. These videos are another facet of my motivation, so even if they don't necessarily apply to my practice I just get more excited about steno from watching them. Thank you for sharing your journey!
Thank you for sharing your experience and being honest. I’ve realized over time that not everyone enjoys this or is meant to follow this path. 😊 good luck in whatever you decide to pursue next
Yes definitely try it. It’s time consuming but you have to master those words somehow 😁😁 make sure to create a hesitation list if you haven’t already and go over those words no matter what.. incorporate that into your routine 😊
I like to do something like this with the harder tests, after I finish taken them. Even if I never hear a word again, practicing the outline reinforces theory so that you can write similar words faster.
I've passed 3 of 6 120s and boy has it taken longer than I anticipated. For the first minute of a test, it feels easy and my accuracy is high and then , almost without fail, I begin to lose focus and I just can't keep up and begin to drop majorly. We have an endurance practice dictation library that I could do more of, but I feel like I get a ton of endurance practice, especially from the long and draining warmups we are required to do right before our tests (60+ minutes of speed pushing)--which ironically, I feel exhausts my brain before tests. Any suggestions?
I have some questions for you. But first, I took the basic project steno class. I loved it so much that I also took the A to Z free basic class. I am unemployed and can't afford to go to school now, however I am practicing for an hour each day with the booklets that were given to us. I am now getting bored. Are there any books or dictation cd's, you recommend that I can purchase while waiting to go to school? Thanks So much, I so appreciate your videos!
Do you have a theory book? If you do you can start going through the chapters... you can try to create your own sentences or record them on your phone and practice those sentences... the words that you’ve been practicing make sure that you can write them faster and faster each time.
You can also go to the brief exchange on Facebook and look under files... there are a lot of words and phrases that you can practice... medical terminology, car accident terms etc .. hope that helps
@@Stenohood I want to buy a theory and finger drills book. I am still searching but not 100% sure what to buy. Any suggestions? I'll give you a hug...lol
Watch my video titled 4 tools to help you succeed ... you’ll get info about dictation... you can try to start listening to dictation... it’s all free and the other resources listed will help you with finger drills and worksheets also
Yes it’s an uphill battle each time we go up a speed 😂 it’s amazing what we’re capable of doing after so much practice, you think you aren’t making progress until you finally pass a test 😁
Working on my 140s currently and I practice a very similar way! Just curious, when you're working on a dictation this way, do you choose one at your current testing speed? I feel like I get more benefit from practicing slower speeds and nailing the accuracy, but I worry that it may be holding me back speed-wise.
I have a question totally not related. I don’t know if you can help me with this but google is not giving me any results lol my steno machine is overlapping words on paper. Instead of the words being spaced out, they are crammed on top of each other. Do you know what this is and how to fix it?
I can’t diagnose but I remember that would happen a few times on mine when it was low on battery or the ribbon wasn’t working properly... have you tried posting the question on Facebook groups I’m sure veteran reporters will know exactly what to do in this case ... let me know if you get the answer I’m sure others have had the same problem
@@Stenohood Oh thank you so much! I’ve had this problem before while testing out and my instructor said it might be the ribbon. We were going to replace it but it started working again, so I’ll definitely request a new ribbon. Thank you again!
Hi, every school has different requirements. This program is not like a traditional college or university and many schools don’t use “units” to award credit. There is a list of specific academic courses that you have to take along with speed building to complete that school’s requirements. I would recommend to look at the school’s catalog to view their requirements. There are also options where you don’t have to take academics, you just complete sped building but I would recommend to speak to a school representative 😊 also not every school offers an associate degree for court reporting.
Is it a gud option to opt for being a foreign student (india).. I already know shorthand (pitman) bt we don't use machines over here. I can write 140-150wpm. I was thinking to move to usa nd learn to type nd work over there! Pay is not gud in delhi(india)

Hey! How’s it going? Did you pass 140 finally?
Thanks for checking in! Yes, I’m finally passing 140 tests and continuing the climb one test at a time 😁😁
Been watching your steno for a couple of years and getting back into it - thank sm for the help on steno

Practice, rinse and repeat.

I got a machine, practiced one day and failed so hard. There is no way I could ever do that job. My hats off to you; you guys kick ass!

You explain well Pamela in Detroit
My instructor just suggested this yesterday. I need to start doing this.

60 minutes before a test sounds draining 🤔
Well...idk if I should be worrying about this right now. I am barely getting started on theory 1.

Hi I’m currently working on passing 140... I’m so close I can taste it 😁😁

How did you get your keyboard to look so pretty like that?
I use keypads from KLORSTENOKEYDESIGN on Etsy

Definitely try to practice at higher speeds... that’s what helps the most... but certainly accuracy is always key.
I was wonder what book is the best to learn short hand?
I would say Magnum Steno

I was wondering what classes do I need to take for court reporting, and how many units do I need to get an associate degree

If you transfer to the US, it will be helpful to learn to use the steno machine or you can also try voice writing 😁
