"I killed my wife" (1:42). The way she said it the first time would have been an easy case for the prosecution, unless she was court reporting for the O.J. trial. But if it was a question, I see what she means.
Hello.. i am a stenographer student.. i am confused and i really just wanna know if i really need to take gregg shorthand seriously or i should really focus on steno machine itself because gregg shorthand is not really necessary in the court?
Gregg shorthand has nothing to do with the steno machine. You need to focus on shorthand on the steno machine. It looks like gregg shorthand has to do with physical writing
There's literally no difference between I killed my wife and I killed my wife. It is not up to the court reporter to insert conjecture or make inferences into what is meant. You write the words, period.
So you are advocating the reporter use no punctuation. That would certainly make the job easier, but it would not reflect an accurate record, and it would be harder to read.
One is a statement and one is a question. Court reporting isn't foolproof, but it is what it is. I was once asked to review a court record where I was actually the person who was deposed. I could indicate where I thought there were errors. There were a few, but it really didn't make a difference in the whole scheme of things.
I like how they have the power to say "one at a time",so they can make sure they get it right. They have to get it right.
Love this! I just enrolled in ACI's Court Reporting program. It makes me happy to know this profession is not going anywhere.
You will meet high quality individuals throughout your career. Thats just an added benefit.
How is it going now two years later? :)
Why does it look like this was produced in 1999
They spent all their money on the steno machines
No one ever wants to think their job can be replaced by technology or eliminated but it truly can.
i love the fact that you apparently dont need to be drug tested 🥴
Even if technology could replace Court Reporter in the future, there is no incentive to do so.

Inflection, there was an upward inflection toward the end of the second example, which made it "i killed my wife??"
