I dress modestly for spirtual reasons but it is my pet peeve when people look frumpy. Incompletely agree that it is important to use texture movement and visual interest. I love bright colors too. It is possible to be more covered up and look extremely cool.
Modesty is always more elegant, and more acceptable in public. I always look to Jackie Kennedy, Princess Diana, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, all classed as sexy, style icons, but modest.
I’ve always dressed modestly and I’m 63. By the time I was 12, men were always staring at my full bust and asking me for dates, I hated it, so have never shown cleavage. Dressing super-sexy or wearing super-tight or revealing clothes is just low-class. After swinging so far the other way with the Kardashians, etc., women are beginning to value dressing appropriately again. With modest dressing I feel confident and comfortable in every situation. I’m always amazed that so many women wear those very short and tight skirts when sitting for television filming, etc., then spend the whole time tugging them down. A little forethought goes a long way. That said, if I’m going to show any skin, it will be my legs, they’re good-looking, even at my age. But there are limits, nothing super-short or tight. There is such a thing as age-appropriateness, some women just don’t get this, but the majority do, and adapt beautifully. It’s so sad to see an older woman wearing outfits suitable only for younger teens, they’re only making themselves look like they’re desperately hanging onto youth, and pathetic.
Great tips. It’s possible to dress modestly without looking like a member of Fundamentalist Church (not that there is anything wrong with that) We have so much vulgarity now in the way we look and act, it’s very unfortunate. Your picture references are excellent.
When I’m elegantly covered up men open doors and greet me. They give up chairs in waiting rooms or allow me move ahead in lines. I think modesty naturally accompanies elegance. Particularly in clothing worn everyday.
Accessories are key, I agree. Before I retired, I got comfortable wearing statement, jewelry, sometimes bling, sometimes Southwest turquoise, great pins, etc. with my formal business suits. I still wear fun jewelry retirement.
These are beautiful tips. I dress modestly and more form fitting, alluring when I take a mind to (I’m a singer in a show so it’s just par for the course). But I will say, men who lust will do so no matter what you wear. I say, Dress for yourself and feel great and celebrate your femininity.
I always loved to dress modestly. When I was younger I had friends that sometimes commented that I dress like a grandma because I never liked to show my legs. I love midi and long pleated skirts or I wear a lot of linen and tailored trousers in summer. I never liked mini anything or shorts. I live in a city near the beach with a lot of tourists that in the summer wear only a bath suit and I see this sooo annoying.
Loved this! So many great tips for looking modest on a budget. I always opt for a shirt dress. A scarf can also elevate a basic look, or a kitten heel.
I love your choice of fashion topics and presentation-- you are so refreshing and almost always throw in a few subtle laughs, keeping it real, at least for me!! ( i.e., we "love" the nuns!😄)
Thank you for these helpful tips ❤ I'm trying to dress more modestly but in a stylish and modern way. I'll definitely incorporate your suggestions I think modesty depends on the culture, place and location (like it would be nice to wear a mini dress to the beach, but inappropriate for work). Modesty is also a way of showing respect towards others, by not displaying too much that it makes other people uncomfortable.
I always say men want to “date” (my euphemism for you know what), flagrantly-sexy women, but they want to marry the classy ones. They won’t marry a woman they’re ashamed to introduce her to their families, friends and colleagues, nor do they want one “available” to other men. People will take you at your own evaluation, so look and be dignified.
There is definitely different definitions of modesty depending on religion and ethnicity. I'm a Christian and the definition of modesty has an emphasis around covering all body parts that are deemed alluring to men. But, if you research, the biblical definition of modesty is much more than that. It's about not drawing unnecessary attention to ourselves or not intentionally being the center of attention. Rather, our clothing should indicate to others that we are Christ followers and leave that impression with others. Not too difficult to figure out, right?😂🤔 So, a very bold, bright printed maxi dress, no cleavage would be considered immodest??? But, skintight leggings & a tight turtleneck, both black, would be modest???? What about your body shape for each outfit? Your personality: how you carry yourself or walk or sit in each outfit? Modesty is not easy to figure out, is it? ♥️🇨🇦
I don’t have a specific brand for more modest pieces. I’ll usually just have those guidelines in mind wherever I’m shopping and find pieces that fit into them. But Massimo Dutti and Lilysilk are two brands that always seem to fit into my fashion needs and have a more discreet and feminine offer 😉
Not for moral reasons but I like modest, minimal clothing. I feel the term “sexy” is a very overused and contrived word. Dressing sexy isn’t something I’ve ever wanted to do. That’s just me. When dressing I like to be as put together as I can be with the least amount of effort possible, but hopefully there are more interesting things about me than my clothes.
My big problem is that I cannot for the life of me find good clothing anywhere. All clothing in the common stores is the lowest possible quality. They are either cut not in favour of the female body, or the fabric is all plastics, or they're straight up ugly

So true!!
It's so much more fun to dress modestly by also playing with layering .
It seems that the main goal of church women is being fashionable

Modesty is such a lifesaver for those of us who can't be exposed to the sun.

If there is nothing wrong with that, why not?
That women are really being - or trying being - modest

Another reason to cover up is for sun protection. Leathery sun damaged skin is not attractive. Great vid
Trueeeee

Mariana, you look fantastic! The ladies who follow you appreciate your modest beautiful style!

"modest and form fitting, alluring"
Ok, prot Stacey

Great video, Mariana! You choose the best topics and this one is no exception! Modesty is the best accessory!! Have a great week!!
You too Celia! Glad you liked the video 😌
Could you please share what you are wearing in this video. I really like the sleeve length and slightly loose fit.

Loved this video, very informative and detailed ❤️
I love all of your earrings. Can you linked them up?

Spot on!
You’re right. And if men don’t want to marry you, you have no value.
I hope that last comment was a joke.
You're valuable, regardless of what you're wearing or what men think about it...
From where is the skirt you showed in the video? I would love to buy it if you are ok sharing the link. Thank you 😊
Hi Cassandra! It's from H&M (I got it this Summer, but don't see it on their website anymore). Perhaps they'll bring it back this year 😊

Thank you so much for this video. Are there stores you recommend to shop at?

I really like what she has on now actually

Exactly! Clothes should be just the frame to our personalities, values and attitude.

princess Diana is Dead????
Yes she has been for a while. I think she was killed or it was a car accident. I don't remember exactly
Car “accident” I think they didn’t like that she spoke her mind. She was beautiful
Sleeveless, short dresses and skirts are not Modest
