Thank you for having us along onboard. I don't think your graphics are intrusive at all. Thank you also for not subjecting us to an annoying music track while you're underway. I'd much rather listen to the actual sound of the motor, water, and wind. Much respect to you for being a conscientious skipper and not causing others problems with wakes, etc. Well done.
Thank you for letting me know what you think! it took me a good 2 days to learn how to do the basics of the text on screen this week. I agree about the music, I also don't understand the rules around RUclips about music so its simpler to leave it out.
For passing, the etiquette is to ask for a slow pass. You radio the boat ahead and ask them to slow so you can pass without waking them. You would want to be much closer to them before you call though. The problem is, a pontoon out for a day trip, may not have a radio or may not have the radio on. You are a very courteous power boater though and that is greatly appreciated. You could give lessons to many. Enjoying your videos.
You can also use the horn to tell them you are passing them. One blast to pass them on your port side or two blasts to pass on your starboard, assuming the know the nav rules.
Good point! although I generally assume that small boats may not know the rules. if someone behind me honked i would have to think for a few minutes to relies that they were trying to tell me lol.
Thanks for your input! I do try to be aware of those around me. I have seen some really well equipped pontoon boats over the last few years but never looked to see if any had a radio installed. ill have to look closer next time i see one at a show!
my radar can filter out some rain but it also means that low profile fishing boats don't show up as well. it does get fatiguing running in fog for a few hours though.
Another great adventure, as far as the pontoon in the waterway, if it’s wide enough, allow some distance, and pass at speed, i cruise the lower st Mary’s river, and this is the common etiquette
Well done!! I would have gone around the pontoon. They are very stable and no danger to them. I understand your reluctance I'm sure it was appreciated.. I'm looking forward to your next videos heading east. This is water I have not run...yet:) Take care.
love your graphics!!!!! boy, Lake Superior is so volatile changing quickly ... great to see a responsbile boater. I would stayed behind and just made up the time
I'd say I decided to turn on the TV at the perfect time. I'm really enjoying going on this journey with you. I couldn't get a good look at the tug that honked at you. It looked pretty nice to be a fishing boat, was it a pleasure craft?
to pass the pontoon you call them on the radio or sound your horn for a pass. on this canal you would want to overtake on their port side - your starboard. you absolutely can overtake.
I think I would have gotten closer to the pontoon and tried to either pass off plane or waited for a wider section and passed there on plane. Pontoons can handle wake.
Love the video. I think you were being too conservative by staying behind the pontoon boat. They go out on the water they take their chances. I'm not saying to swamp them but you could go by them at a reasonable speed.

Wise captain to constantly watch for vessels, radar doesn't work in rain and may glitch in the Misty morning.

good tip thanks! Normally out on the lakes there is tones of space but the channel seemed too narrow at the time.

Thanks for your input! The lake superior coastline was full of surprises and I would recommend the trip to everyone at some point!

Thanks for letting me know your opinion!
Hope you video serie can proof for my wife that great lakes don't have tooth and don't bite the boaters like she thinks😂

I am glad you are enjoying it! I think the boat that honked was either a Nordic tug or American Tug.

Thanks for your comment! I don't think a pontoon like that normally has a radio though
they dont need to have a radio. thats why you havethe alternate horn sounding. @@MillennialAfloat

You could pull up next to them and let them know you want to pass. I normally follow bigger boats center-line wake when that happens
You sound like the Yacht Rock guy on Sirius radio (compliment)
Haha, Thank you! I haven't listened to him before but ill check it out next time i am driving!
Graphics are good!!! And i dont mind if you make the videos a little longer! Just seeing you under way is cool
Thank you! I will take your opinion into consideration. longer videos may work well.
