When I think of killer snare tone, Joey always comes to mind for me. He had his own signature snare that sounded INCREDIBLE, too. Plus, he just played with so much ferocity when he hit the snare that it always got that perfect crack. Dude was a monster.

I have the tattoos. I am a maggot through and through. But I do not support this band they call Slipknot now. At all. Corey and Shawn are two of the most disloyal and selfish scumbags on the face of the earth as far as I'm concerned. To throw away arguably the greatest drummer to ever hold a pair of sticks, due to his illness is unforgivable. Replaced him with a wannabe on a watered down kit that they could pay half of what they were paying Joey. Joey was one of the main reasons they had so much success. Now as you say, they will have to live with it for the rest of their lives. I doubt they'll give it much thought though. Matter of fact, I heard they were profiting off of Joey's death by charging people money to touch Joey's kit at their shows. It's truly unreal. Joey was THE reason I chose drums as a musical passion 20 years ago. Slipknot post joey is not slipknot. And joey was able to fit right into how many other bands? He's simply the best of his time when youtube tutorials was not a thing and learning to play any instrument was done with hard work and passion! What a shame it is to loose such talent!
He actually started playing guitar first when he was young, now he is known as one of the best metal drummers of all time, he was truly a talented person, he will be missed R.I.P #1

You picked the exact correct video to see joeys talent. And your face at 7:27 describes everyone’s feelings of how sic he is with the double bass! Iowa is there best darkest album and probably the best heaviest metal album of all time! I really wish we could have seen a reunion wit him and slipknot but that won’t be happening unfortunately :( but joeys memory lives on! My favorite drummer of all time! Thanks for reacting and please do some more on him. I’ll be subscribing! :)
The water was poured on his head to keep him cool. The jumpers they wore on stage were pretty hot and Joey had said in interviews that it was hard to not get overheated. You can't see in this video but there were also fans on the floor around him, too.
I remember well when i first listened to Slipknot in the early 2000s, first thing that caught my attention inmediatelly was the drums, end then when i watched their videos Joey was instantly the coolest member of them all, i remember my friends talking about how good he was even though any of us knew anything about drumming, RIP
I have been sad for artists and/or celebrities passing away. Joey Jordison's passing is the one that made me break down in tears. I heard 'wait & bleed' in high school and was amazed! I don't have the words to express his importance to drummers & musicians everywhere. I'm so sad for those that were also close to him and have to go through the pain of losing a loved one.
I've been watching a lot of drummer reacts to Joey this past week and the one thing I took from it is how technically good Joey was before he got ill. You were always gonna get the best every night from him and that's really an underappreciated trait.
Joey was the reason I started drumming!! He helped shape/inspire a generation of drummers! Sadly I never took the opportunity to see him play live! Which is something I’ll regret for the rest of my life. Much love Joey! You’ll be forever missed!!
This whole concert was incredible.. if you ever get a chance to watch this entire concert do it you will not be disappointed at all.. I think this concert was their best show and best sound of all time.. As far as slipknot goes.. Definitely Joey at his best.. 🥁🤘🏻😎🤘🏻🥁RIP Joey he is one of the reasons I started playing drums..
As a person that doesn't LOVE Slipknot but very much respects what they did for opening me up to harder shit ultimately leading me toward the technical death metal and grindcore I listen to now I have to say...... Joey Jordison was the fucking man. Dude has a top spot among all metal drummers. The Dude is a legend. I love Jay Weinberg but Joey is impossible shoes to fill.
Paiste Rude : - Dave Lombardo - David Silveria - Joey Jodirson *Honestly, u should react to "people = shit" and it is better than "the heretic anthem". More energetic and power with beautiful fills. Once again thanks for the reaction Andrew. We really appreciate. Good Nyte Joey ✊
Found your channel because of Joey's videos. And i really appreciate you doing more of him! Can't wait to see more, i saw a comment saying "do a week of just Joey" it actually does not sound like a bad idea, seeing you react to him makes me smile i really loved the guy! Keep it up!
Your Joey RIP message is beautiful. I've listened to Slipknot since they started and I was a kid, and he was the first musician to die and make me cry...at the age of 34! He was a god when he was alive and now he's a real god ❤️
I took drum lessons back in year 7 but used it as a way to get out of math class, it wasn't until I heard Joey playing drums I saw what drummers were capable of and ever since then I took drums seriously. He was the reason I'm playing today, miss him, what a legend.
This was my favorite dvd in my early teens and I have it to this day. Joey was one of my favorite drummers at the time along with the likes of Morgan Rose. The dvd had the option to change camera angles on a few songs so I’d literally just watch joeys angle. This was the best song to watch.
Yes they have a DJ, the band is actually 9 members, 2 percussionists, lead and backup guitar, DJ, keyboard, bass, vocals and drums. Can't wait to watch the rest of these reactions, And I hope you do the solo the people were asking for, because its otherworldly
What I love about Slipknot reaction videos is the appreciation of skill from someone who would normally NEVER take the time to listen. I wish I got to experience the 2004 Download where Joey played for Metallica (Dave did an amazing job too, especially with the song Battery)
Yeah but they are not mic'd... the other guys on stage may be able to hear Chris & Clown but from the audience & especially the recorded aspect they can not be heard!. Its more theatrical than musical.
Второго такого же яркого и легендарного ударника не будет никогда, Джоуи при жизни стал легендой и стимулом для множества будущих ударников по всему миру. Покойся с миром, гуру и великий ударник на многие века😢😢
Sad week for the drum world. Joey was a legend and like all legends taken before their time - leaves a giant hole that will be empty for a long time to come. Rest easy #1 we love you!
I normally don’t watch reaction videos, but this one was really good. As a longtime Joey fan I enjoyed seeing a genuine first reaction to his drumming in the disasterpiece video, and I really appreciated the respect and appreciation given to his talent especially from someone who isn’t particularly a heavy metal drummer.
Grew up listing to Slipknot and always loved the drumming. Checkout eyeless one of my favourite songs. RIP Joey. Thanks for the reacts video mate enjoyed it.
I remember when I last saw Slipknot with Joey, 2012 Jiffy Lube, they set off some type of cannon at the start of their first song and it was epic, thought it was one of the most intense acts I've ever seen, and Slayer played right before them.
Check out "we the sad" by Tallah. There's a nice drum breakdown. The drummer is Max Portnoy...and yes, it's Mark Portnoy's son. Joey was Max's biggest influence.
There’s something so satisfying with watching someone who is a master in their craft appreciate a style that is completely out of their area of expertise. Whether it’s a football player appreciate a rugby players work ethic, or a musician appreciate another musician of another genre. It shows that skill level and love of the craft can be appreciated across all areas
This does appear to be the "wrong" video, however it's a song that was really worth checking out anyway. I made exactly the same mistake initially (as you'll see in the comments in your previous video). Slipknot have a song called "disasterpiece" but also there is the "disasterpieces" DVD; one of the features on this DVD is the Joey Jordison drum solo that the comment was mentioning. You can find that specific drum solo here ( ruclips.net/video/tUibKh0Z--c/видео.html ), it is seriously worth your time watching. Another song that is well worth a watch is "spit it out" from download festival in 2009, it's a perfect example as to why slipknot has the cult following it has amassed over the years ( ruclips.net/video/72rq16h1IOg/видео.html ).
Yeah. The guys talking about the drum solo he did from the disasterpieces DVD. Worked out well though. Because seeing a full track you can appreciate joeys playing more. The solo itself isn't all that. It's more about the actual performance and stage setting. So...third times a charm mate. Don't think anyone would complain about seeing more Joey 😉
About the "linear" stuff being "ahead of his time": Those are Portnoy fills (RLRLKK and RLKK) that Portnoy made popular in the early Dream Theater albums, so before most of Slipknot's discography. Nevertheless, Joey just hit another mark with how effortless and tight he played them at such high speeds
Joey was so precise. While being fast, wearing a mask, playing a character, and, sometimes, hanging upside down. His set is different, almost every video you see, yet, he hits everything, without having to look. I'll not claim that he's the goat.. but, certainly makes the list.
At 08:30 the tecnic he use to stop the cymbal have Tommy Lee done from 1983, and on another video like the way he spin around with the drumset have Tommy Lee done in 1987 :p
One of the drummers that made me pick up sticks when I was a younger lad. craziest thing to me is Joey always considered himself more of a guitar player, and is till probably the one drummer that turned most now 20-30 year olds into drumming and heavy music in the late 90's early 00's
Slipknot would have stayed relevant with Joey, without him it turned bad. Joey wrote lots of the guitar riffs on the 2 first album, so he wasn't just the drummer... Drummers should write more riffs.
Gotta disagree their newest album is their best work in ages. I love their old stuff but jays done a great job and corey sounds better than ever since he stopped smoking
@@Madzguy007 Joey was good, Slipknot is a decent band, but that's quite a bold statement to say they changed the metal industry. I'm going to have to strongly disagree. Pete Sandoval of Morbid Angel was blasting faster than Joey before Joey ever picked up sticks. Fear Factory and Ministry was using odd industrial sounds before Slipknot was Slipknot. Mushroomhead was doing the whole mask / costume thing before Slipknot, GWAR did it before Mushroomhead, Kiss did it before GWAR. Meshuggah and Pantera were grooving before Slipknot. Anthrax was putting rap into metal before literally EVERYONE. I mean seriously, all Slipknot did was incorporate what had already been done several times by various other bands. Slipknot is Slipknot. They didn't start an entire new genre. They broke no new ground. Meshuggah started djent, Celtic Frost, Possessed, and Death is why there is death metal, the big 4 is responsible for thrash ( with Venom, Exodus, Testament, and Overkill) which should rightfully be included in lifting thrash off the ground, and there were also bands like Nile, Cannibal Corpse, etc floating around. Like I said, Slipknot is Slipknot, a very good band, but they didn't really change anything, not even with bringing in a DJ. Anthrax did that with Public Enemy. As someone who has been in the metal scene since the very beginning of thrash and has seen it all, I have to strongly disagree with your statement.
@@lefthook4878 I hate this discounting a band narrative crap anytime I see it. Slipknot went pretty mainstream with techniques that most people who weren't already into underground stuff didn't care about at all. Super groups are rare to this day and to have 3 percussionists is pretty much unheard of still. Sampling in songs is basically dead these days. Quite a few unusual things they did that they got right even if they weren't always "the first to do it". Finally Slipknot switched in between different metal genres fairly seamlessly, something extremely uncommon up until fairly recently I'd argue. Nobody else sounds like Slipknot.
I know I'm late to the party but I just found this video and not only have I been a fan of Slipknot for the past 20 years but I absolutely love your reaction to this.. Your smile says it all and reminds me of exactly how I felt the first time hearing them play and I about lost my mind the first time I saw them live.
Joey was the pioneer of being brutal and still grooving. His drum writing inspired most of the young metal guys we listen too now. Most people have no idea how talented at songwriting the guys in Slipknot are. They just get written off because of their look.

23 years later, still getting goosebumps every time I hear it. RIP Joey.
Legend has died, this drummer is why I like slipknot.. when I hear slipknot I listen to the drums primarily… RIP we love you Joey
Iowa was an all-time great album and there’s so much of it in this concert.

*Honestly, u should react to "people = shit" and it is better than "the heretic anthem". More energetic and power with beautiful fills. Once again thanks for the reaction Andrew. We really appreciate. Good Nyte Joey ✊
Don't forget Charlie Benante.
He should do the drum solo at the Atlanta amphitheater
nicko mcbrain also uses rude
@@fubar1217 yup dude...charlie,nicko mcbrain,John Dolmayan,Marky Ramone,Inferno(Behemoth) n etc...

Found your channel because of Joey's videos. And i really appreciate you doing more of him! Can't wait to see more, i saw a comment saying "do a week of just Joey" it actually does not sound like a bad idea, seeing you react to him makes me smile i really loved the guy! Keep it up!
This review made my entire day!I GREATLY APPRECIATE THIS!!✌
Your Joey RIP message is beautiful. I've listened to Slipknot since they started and I was a kid, and he was the first musician to die and make me cry...at the age of 34! He was a god when he was alive and now he's a real god ❤️
He was the one that made me become a drummer. RIP legend.
I always thought that those 3 consecutives chokes were sick (min 8:37)
All of it is sick!
(Sic)
Joey was one of the most precise drummers, it's insane how accurate he was at such insane speeds while also headbanging. RIP Joey
The drum solo you're looking for is either in "The Heretic Anthem" or the clip of joeys rotating drum set solo.
Or the people = shit one, it's like 10seconds but there's a solo in the song basically
I took drum lessons back in year 7 but used it as a way to get out of math class, it wasn't until I heard Joey playing drums I saw what drummers were capable of and ever since then I took drums seriously. He was the reason I'm playing today, miss him, what a legend.
Disasterpiece was one of the first heavy drum songs Ive ever came across after I picked up the sticks. The amount of groove in all that craziness ♥
This was my favorite dvd in my early teens and I have it to this day. Joey was one of my favorite drummers at the time along with the likes of Morgan Rose. The dvd had the option to change camera angles on a few songs so I’d literally just watch joeys angle. This was the best song to watch.
subbed because of Joey, this things are hard to watch man, i still get emotional watching Joey's stuff. I feel like a part of me has died.
Yes they have a DJ, the band is actually 9 members, 2 percussionists, lead and backup guitar, DJ, keyboard, bass, vocals and drums. Can't wait to watch the rest of these reactions, And I hope you do the solo the people were asking for, because its otherworldly
What a talented man we've lost...R.I.P. Joey!!!
One of my favorite videos of Joey.
IMO, one of the best drummers in my time.
RIP Joey
SO GOOD
What I love about Slipknot reaction videos is the appreciation of skill from someone who would normally NEVER take the time to listen. I wish I got to experience the 2004 Download where Joey played for Metallica (Dave did an amazing job too, especially with the song Battery)
I was there that year...moment in history 🤘
"They have a DJ?!!?"
Wait til he finds out they have two percussionists...!
They have more than two
@@ericbarkewitz7586 I think he meant two percussionists IN ADDITION to a drummer.
Yeah but they are not mic'd... the other guys on stage may be able to hear Chris & Clown but from the audience & especially the recorded aspect they can not be heard!. Its more theatrical than musical.
@@airsickgrove They absolutely are mic'd on the record.
3 of them
Второго такого же яркого и легендарного ударника не будет никогда, Джоуи при жизни стал легендой и стимулом для множества будущих ударников по всему миру. Покойся с миром, гуру и великий ударник на многие века😢😢
He inspired me to be a drummer. I am also very small. Joey showed me it doesn't matter how big you are...❤
What's even more impressive is he's self taught. I knew he was an amazing drummer. Never truly appreciated just how good he was until I saw this video
I know this is drum related but another legend this week RIP Dusty Hill.
Grew up listing to Slipknot and always loved the drumming. Checkout eyeless one of my favourite songs. RIP Joey. Thanks for the reacts video mate enjoyed it.
I my opinion most everyone who loves Slipknot they do because they heard the drumming first
I got chills half way thru listening to that. RIP Joey
I saw slipknot twice. Their stage show is absolutely insane. My two fav drummers Neil Peart and Joey Jordison are both gone now, rest in peace.
As a fan of both. Yeah it does suck a lot. Neil was in a class of his own too!
Eloy is the next potential great in my opinion

RIP Joey huge fan/ idol through my childhood. Slipknot got me through my younger years
May I suggest their performance of Spit It Out at Download Festival 2009 where Joey ends the song by going vertical.....I'll just leave it at that.
He actually does a full solo mid concert on this DVD if you can find it.

Best perform from best drummer.. RIP No.1...
Yes please this all of this
Yes PLEASE do a Disasterpieces react to that specific drum solo 🙏
That drum solo is definitely worth a watch. Thanks for the link. 👍

Joey snare work was fantastic
Joey started using Triggers later in his career with Slipknot, but not here
Thanks for the info bro!
@@AndrewRooneyDrums Of course! Thanks for reviewing some Joey footage!
@@iMatty_2 More to come. Can't believe I missed this band TBH
When his legs started to give way to the disease. Which would eventually take his last breath. RIP
This one leaves a scar. What a force and an absolute surgeon behind a kit
Can't wait to see/hear more

Solo in question.
Thank you for doing this video. I knew Joey was awesome but listening to your qualified comments makes me appreciate him even more. Again, thanks.
Thank you!
About the "linear" stuff being "ahead of his time":
Those are Portnoy fills (RLRLKK and RLKK) that Portnoy made popular in the early Dream Theater albums, so before most of Slipknot's discography.
Nevertheless, Joey just hit another mark with how effortless and tight he played them at such high speeds
A legend lost too soon. RIP Joey! A childhood hero of mine!
Joey was so precise.
While being fast, wearing a mask, playing a character, and, sometimes, hanging upside down.
His set is different, almost every video you see, yet, he hits everything, without having to look.
I'll not claim that he's the goat.. but, certainly makes the list.
Yup what a legend
At 08:30 the tecnic he use to stop the cymbal have Tommy Lee done from 1983, and on another video like the way he spin around with the drumset have Tommy Lee done in 1987 :p
👌
React to Joey playing "People = Shit" its hella amazing
One of the drummers that made me pick up sticks when I was a younger lad. craziest thing to me is Joey always considered himself more of a guitar player, and is till probably the one drummer that turned most now 20-30 year olds into drumming and heavy music in the late 90's early 00's
Slipknot would have stayed relevant with Joey, without him it turned bad. Joey wrote lots of the guitar riffs on the 2 first album, so he wasn't just the drummer... Drummers should write more riffs.
Slipknot is arguably better than ever, carrying on Joey's and Paul's legacies. We Are Not Your Kind is probably their best album to date.
Gotta disagree their newest album is their best work in ages. I love their old stuff but jays done a great job and corey sounds better than ever since he stopped smoking
Their newest albums has just a few goods songs..the rest is meh... Slipknots first 2 albums literally changed the metal industry forever
I am so happy I stumbled on this video. I love Joey’s drumming. Great concept for a channel.
Aside from Joey's impeccable drumming...just listen to Corey's voice. At his peak back then and still the best Metal vocals ever! (imo)
I know I'm late to the party but I just found this video and not only have I been a fan of Slipknot for the past 20 years but I absolutely love your reaction to this..
Your smile says it all and reminds me of exactly how I felt the first time hearing them play and I about lost my mind the first time I saw them live.
I love how much you appreciate this 😁
Joey was the pioneer of being brutal and still grooving. His drum writing inspired most of the young metal guys we listen too now.
Most people have no idea how talented at songwriting the guys in Slipknot are. They just get written off because of their look.
Who write them off? Their last album was widely regarded as a metal masterpiece
@@kobainage people that don't listen to metal.
With all the respect Joey deserves, I would say that John Bonham was the real pioneer in being brutal and groovy. RIP both of them.

Thank you for doing these. Joey was my childhood hero and still is to this day. Forever in our hearts ❤. RIP Joey #1. Best way to appreciate his talents is to simply just listen to the self titled album,Iowa, subliminal verses and all hope is gone. Also the stuff he did in the roadrunner all stars sessions.
