After so many recipes with ramyun and canned tuna and other bachelor items, I guess it's fair to have one a little more complicated! Personally I still haven't done all the Tuna things yet! I'm getting further behind.

This is one of my favorite dishes from the Korean restaurant I frequented for almost 30 years. Sadly they have closed for good and I moved away but... now I can faithfully make this dish myself. I already have a Ttukbaegi that I bought from a Goodwill store last year and I use to make SoonDubu so I will make it Dolsot, probably next week. Thank you both so much for helping me to realize what for 30 years were my most favorite and healthy meals when I was working in New York City. Special thanks to the owners of The Mill restaurant at Columbia University for introducing me to Korean foods. The owners always made me feel like I was the most special customer in the restaurant every time I visited, often providing me with a no-charge Lime Rickey without any request from me because they remembered how much I liked them. I always remember the mama and papa with sincere affection for the kindness they and their family showed me over the years and I honor them with the memories that I share. Aaron you are a great entertainer, not only do you have great knife skills but your sense of humor and timing are excellent, Claire is a lucky woman indeed. Thank you for helping me continue to enjoy the meals I have cherished for so many years.

I'm two years too late, but I think my memory with Bibimbap deserves to be posted.
I went to a private highschool that has a cafeteria that offers cuisines from all over the world, and Bibimbap was one. I loved the dish so much, on one occasion, after I ate my home cooked lunch, I immediately bought a bowl of Bibimbap, transferred it to my cleaned lunch box, and brought it home to my mother.
Perhaps one of the very few fondest memories I have of the school or my mother.
I still make Bibimbap from time to time these days. Eating it alone hits differently, though.

I love bibimbap and the korean rice bowl! Sometimes I like to add jasmine rice instead of short grain rice and sometimes i love to add brown rice jasmine and brown rice have so much flavour and they are also quite sweet and nutty! I also like to add toppings like pork bulgogi or kimchi or sometimes fried chicken and I also love to add some seaweed paper and eggs to go along with it! I'm a student and these recipes really help me out! I love there is so much variety 😍😋

You know? That DOLSOT stone bowl is not that expensive! I also think that if you prepare the different vegetables and possibly meats for this, it might be easy to make enough for several servings, and have it on a few days in a week? I don't think I'd get tired of it, might be better than most leftovers! I just thought of this now. It's a lot of prep, but might not seem like much spread out over several days.

This is probably my absolute favorite dish, ever! I ordered it at, of all places, a bento restaurant owned by the loveliest Korean woman, twice a week while my daughter took ballet classes. She moved back to Korea a few years ago, and I’ve never had it since she moved back home. Aaron, I feel inspired! Thank you so much for your cheerful, fun videos! You and Claire are adorable!

I couldn't wait till next week. I did not have bean sprouts or cucumber but I made it all the same. I had plenty of carrots, mushrooms, green onions, baby bok choy and I added the whole egg just before putting it in the oven. I used shredded pork and I do not have a gas cook top so I baked the Ttukbaegi in my oven at 400 for 10 minutes. When the egg yolk began to become cloudy I knew it was done. It was very good, but the rice was not crispy the way I like it. I have to wonder if I put the Ttukbaegi on my ceramic top range if it would be a bad thing. I very much enjoyed the dish, it brought back many pleasant memories and the pork was not disappointing, the sauce as you say is the key to the flavor. Next week I will have soy bean sprouts and will do this again. 💙
It is with a somber note that I offer my sympathies to those families who lost loved ones in Seoul recently.

    • @gordonshaffer5560
      @gordonshaffer5560 Год назад +1

UPDATE: A Ttukbaegi can be used on a ceramic cook top. But you do have to compensate for the time it takes to heat up. I made this again tonight and it was great. Last night I didn't use enough sauce and I used precooked shredded pork, tonight I used unseasoned ground pork and more sauce and it was delicious. I only had a small amount of the rice turn the tiniest bit crispy, but I will cook it longer next time to compensate for the slow heat time. The flavor was just like the best restaurant and I can't wait to make it again. Tomorrow I hit the Super G Mart in Greensboro and will restock my fresh veggies and a few other goodies.

I made your Bibimbap yesterday. Also i got radish ( The italian works too) this was so good , i made whole container with preped radish with the left overs. Turned out too salty and hot , used sugar ,white pepper and oil to balance it. Now its amazing, i will use it for later food enhancements, easy to make.
Beside the much work in cutting and cooking each part its very easy and delishous ! First time i tryed Korean Goshujang and Goshgaru love the heat and aroma, its so diffrent to the chilli we have here, more sweeter and full of Aroma. I made it how you suggested . Added some green onions on top and Sugarsnap Peas ( delishous). Fresh Mixed Salad leafes worked amazing too.
I steamed the carrots while my rice was boiling in my rice cooker , quick fry with oil and sugar a in the pan for sweetness , amazing. Our kitchen was smelling so good hours later. Your food ideas givin me a much healtier daily eating behavior. Since i own a digital rice cooker very simlar to your one in the back , its no effort anymore.

The only changes I personally make is replacing the cucumber (not a fan of cucumber) with the Spinach recipe you shared years ago.
Then after you shared the Beef and Pork version of Bulgogi awhile back, using that beef version for this round. But that Pork version, man does that hit just right even without it being in the style of Bibimbap.

Thank u 4 your wit, humour and wonderful recipes...
I tried the minced meat and sauce, and it came out just great... I fried the mushrooms in the same batch... and thats something i usually don't do... use onion or mushroom in my food...
Thanks for making me go out of my comfort zone and experience Koreas wonderful dishes :)...

I love you guys so much, so thank you for teaching me to be around the kitchen again. Well, I grew up always in the kitchen. So, I live in United States 🇺🇸, my mother is Brazilian 🇧🇷 and my father is Italy 🇮🇹.
But I would’ve never thought that I would be learning Korean cuisine and all of you videos has been inspiring to eat healthy.
I think have watched literally all of your videos and if you do come to my house everything in my pantry is from Korea because I live about 20 minutes from NYC and thank goodness there are many Korean/Asian supermarkets, so everything that you show on your videos I am able to find near my house 😋
Again, thank you so much and you guys are wonderful and very inspirational.

I've made this several times for my family, honestly korean food changed the opinion of my moms cousin who said she hated asian food, she loved this when we made it, and then ate the kimchi all by herself within the next 24hrs and asked us to send her the information on where to buy the ingredients

The dolsot bibimbap looks like a nice winter meal. Going to make that for dinner this week.
Don't worry Aaron, I was married because of my cooking/knife skills too. My husband's only means of food were frozen dinners before I came along.
