Lance's mc5 is jn the shop today for a new clutch. it has recently started to slip and with adjustments maxed out we went ahead and ordered a new clutch for it.

Everytime I think what a great camper a bus would make, I watch these videos of engine/transaxle access and quickly come to my senses. Let's hear it for truck style flip up hood and fenders! I admire your work but don't want to trade places with you. Great video!

In the beginning of the video, you mentioned that 'this should be quick', pointing to the replacement clutch laying on the floor...can you resurface the flywheel at your shop, or do you have someone nearby with a table mill that can? I personally NEVER go into ANY big diesel clutch job without KNOWING that I'm probably going to have to resurface that flywheel! I've taken in what appeared to be PERFECT flywheels, to find that they have terrible face warpage....and while you'll often see it on 'frequent stops' vehicles (buses, dozers, etc.) it can show up on 'long haulers', too. General rule, my local machinist can table a flywheel for $50...and it will make that new plate seat LIKE NEW with a few extra years of life...money well-spent.

Usually within extensive modifications an auto swap to an mci requires you go to a 6v. Not that being said rick does have a mc5b with an 8v71 and an auto. That's the only one I know of that has that combination.
I have experienced the clutch gripping better in reverse. You make a good teacher, Tyler, but sometimes you get to talking too fast and some of our old, slow ears miss important things you say.

clutch couldn't have been slipping that bad, I didn't smell it from here . . .
And this is why I want an MCI, my father changed the clutch in our 96 courier in a field with just a few tools, all because the cradle rolls out.

We have a machine shop local for it if needed as well as a spare flywheel. But we always inspect and measure prior to sending it out.

An Allison 740 would be a good transmission for one of those if he ever wanted to go automatic with it.

@@Spyke383 I've seen a custom 8v92 with an auto in a mci mc5. I'm currently trying to talk my boss out of a '69 mc5 with less than 200k on it.
