I heard a shotgun as the wrecker was coming on the property....that would be that skeet shooting knuckle head shooting across the road that Scott mentioned.
I'm all for going out and shooting i do it quite frequently but yea, know you backstop or whats in that direction. People like that are the reason we loose stuff like that.
As someone who drove a tow trucks of all sizes and types for over 20 years I’m not sure why the tow truck driver got his nose out of joint for being requested to use the wheel lift as opposed to the axle under reach one is just as easy as the other additionally I’m also not sure why the driver would be bothered by the police calling him to check on his eta to the scene. The only thing that would occasionally get my goat was sitting around all day without get call only to get one when sitting down for dinner with the family but sooner than later you just have to accept that as part of the business.
My guess is he wanted to flat tow it due to the length of rear overhang. That's how I would have done it, and it looked like the front tire strap rolled forward, proably after dragging it...because it was not flat towed.
I watch Ron Pratt’s channel, and the underreach wheellift attachments on the rotator are quite heavy to install and UN install. I’m going to guess he didn’t want to do the labor to do it. Axle grab us much less work.
Great video, Tyler. Damn didn't make it out of the County (I watched your dad's video). Glad the Troopers were there. Would have been a really bad day for the bus to be hit.
Great work Tyler I'm sure the owner was glad you showed up to help out and take direction I've had to have 1990 v Vanhool towed a 110 miles before it took all day and it was stressful to say the least.
Well, at least property values on the stretch of road he broke down on doubled for a few hours that day, lol. The dwellers must have felt like we do when we go on vacation and step into a 3-4 star hotel! Lol (No, I’m not making fun of anyone, I’ve been there!! I’m inputting some fun into a shitty ass day for these guys! It’s never fun for this to happen anywhere’s and sends stress into overdrive like the wrecker operator had when he got there so my comment is only to break the tension some)
Aren't many worse places to have to stop. I think they brought a big enough tow truck. Thanks for showing us the goings-on. How's your bus coming along with all the shop work coming in?
OK this makes sense - I ASSumed that they hauled it up the hill. Glad it was not as bad as you thought. Tow truck drivers can have their own mind - I had one once that wanted to tow my car out of a snow bank with the cable on a diagonal, which would have ripped the front end out. He did what I asked, and I drove it away.
As far as shooting across the road, when I lived in Crossville (TN), my wife was in the front garden digging potatoes. She heard shots, “pinging” on the tractor roll bar and zinging bullets passing her head. She crawled behind the tractor and yelled/screamed. The GOB who lived across the street told the sheriff he thought the trees were a sufficient backstop for his target shooting. Also, it was not a shotgun. Good thing my wife was not physically hurt, although she was quite shook up.
@@jeremypriest4062 the mounts for the hydraulic ram hangs sevral inches lower that the axle and the low forks needed to fit under the axle would hit the steering too. This isn't the first time we've had one towed and really got tired of paying them to try then having to go to wheel lift anyway. When we called rhe tow in we very clearly stated that we were only wanting it lifted by the tires and if they couldn't or wouldn't we'd call someone else.
@@Spyke383 Correct, you can do it with tall skinny forks, BUT, to get it high enough you need to lift the nose to the point that the axle and wheels are hanging from the bags... not good. Also, using tall forks/ high lift will drag the ass. Wheel lift permits the lowest possible tow angle, a big plus with a scenic.
Dang... Sorry that happened .... It did make a great video. Of course the police show up making things even more tense. Looks like it turned out; well, as well as it could. I'll be watching for follow up videos ... LOL... make sure you do it right.... Like I know how to .... I'm sure you'll get it things going again ... see ya on the flip flop
It wasn't too bad, i was thankful they were there for traffic control. One officer was rushing a bit to clear the road but as always it gets done as quick as possible but sometimes it takes a while. Axle shafts were pulled prior to arrival, and we had the air connection ready so just a quick hook amd throw the lights on it. From the truck backing up till the bus left was less than 10 minutes. That road is the highest traveled one in the county so i understand them wanting to open it back up.
The axle sits low, that combined with the way the power steering ram mount hangs down in the center you'll be hitting the steering if you try. The only way to lift and not hit the steering is the wheel lift.
@@Spyke383 Oh I get it. Like suport it by the axle and not the tires. Suppose they aren't responsible for damage when they unhook it and your tires are cross eyed either.
I am glad it worked out. It is tough to sort out a multi part problem when your broke down in a spot like that. God, knows I have been there.

A total dckhead that guy..

Cool to see after watchin your dads live this morning he was talking about it..thanks 👍
Brings back memories. I broke down right in the middle of a busy intersection in an old Eagle bus. People were cussing me from every direction. 😆
Tyler, lucky 🍀 that he broke down near you guys and you were able to help get him to the shop for repairs and back on the road.

Love the sound of that 3406 - C 15 CAT purring at 6:15
yes, caterpillar engines are like something out of heaven

i was not that highway patrol, but just got to keep people safe. just doing there job. i'm not highway patrol my seft, state trooper my seft.
what?
Seft... ??? Do you mean "myself"?

Good for you standing up to the tow driver ,do it my way or we get someone else👍. I'm sure utube will no doubt impact his towing request.
Or...maybe he actually knows his shyt, and would have preferred not dragging it in the spoons like he was forced to do.

One helluva day.. I need to prep this stuff for whnn it happens to my bus
learned the transmission is just fine, simply power steering fluid spill, heat on a hill.
Nice recovery!
Thanks Tyler enjoyed that
What was the reason for wanting the wheel pick instead of axle pick? I am assuming if done properly either would be ok
Axle pick will hit the mounts for the steering ram.
@@Spyke383 w/out seeing the front axle I can't say it wouldn't have hit, but if I thought I could flat tow it, I would have.

Amazing story.
I bet that was a pricey towing bill

Welcome back how does the bus come along you’re home
I'm just curious why an axle pick was a bad idea.

What other way would he of towed it? With the front wheel that far underneath the was it was done seems proper to me.
They want to use the forks on the axle. But it would be hitting the steering if you grab it that way.

What?!!? A trucker with an ego? do tell...
Transmission air shifter not in alignment.
That’s a beast rotator..👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
I hear gunshots. lol

You're a good bloke don't take shit from towies.
Have the same issue here too think they know best.
Maybe because if something happens, the tow driver is liable.
You sound so much like your dad sometimes!
One downfall of a giant bus, tow bills 🤯, to bad the highway patrol won't let ya pull it off the road with the diesel dually
