We did it, guys! How many publications do you need? Is it paid? Can you be a PhD student? Can you have two-year residency? Do you need to have US work permit? All these and other questions you asked I'm answering here for you. Like and subscribe if you find it useful!

All my videos about AI Residency: • AI Residency Program
    Transcript:
In this video we'll pass all the way from application process, going to interviews, actual work as resident and opportunities after finishing.
First and the most important thing I want to explain is how #AI #Residency is positioned and how the perfect candidate should look. This is important because it affects every part of residency process and also define how you should write your cv/motivation later about which I will tell in a moment. Basically, understanding this one thing will answer most of your further questions.
AI Residency is a program for people with atypical backgrounds which is aimed to diversify AI Research field. if you have Undergrad in CS and experience in ML go and apply for research engineer, if you have PhD - research scientist, this program is not for you. If you're doing PhD in ML and want to gain some experience - apply for internship. But also you should not be a complete noob like a random person from a street. So, this borderline is quite thin, but I hope rest of the video will help you to catch it.
Another thing, some companies have residencies which last 3-6 months where they take current PhD students, this is a complete bullshit, because it's just a regular internship. I will not discuss it here.
    Application process:
Can you be an undergrad? Technically you can, you can have any level of education. But majority or Residents have Master, because it gives a bit more time to demonstrate your research potential while leaving space for further movements.
Can you do it part time? Can you be a student? No, it's a full time job. If you are currently a student you will need to take one-year academic leave, or how do you call it, you will put your program on pause during this time.
How many publications do you need? It's good to have to illustrate your skills but you don't have to. When I applied I had a few papers at no-name conferences, it's good to show that you are trying to do some research and can write a manuscript which can be accepted to a conference or a journal but you have not reached level of CVPR or NeurIPS yet. When I applied I have two papers submitted to CVPR (by the way they have never been accepted, it's actually a small life hack how to make your cv look better)
How to prepare your cv? Follow general advice, I would recommend video from google recruiters, but particularly for residency I would highlight that you should not omit any experience which you consider irrelevant. Tell as much as possible about yourself, because your diverse background is particularly valuable now.
Motivation letter: is particularly important. You cannot change your working experience in a day, but you can easily write a good motivation letter. And actually it plays a pretty big role. Apart of regular stuff like describing why you are a perfect candidate and how much you want to do AI I would advise to concentrate on the next things. Describe your previous research experience, and how you solved one particular research problem. Also, like in PhD application be a good narrative and create a good story about what you want to do in the future, how it combines with your background and how Residency can help you with it. Another thing which no one ever will tell you: make a research for particular teams and projects in a company you apply for. Example from my life: I wanted to do comp. photography, but there is almost no computational photography in Facebook, hence - no team which I could be assigned to. One of particular goals of your research statement is to match you with a team, so, if you will do it yourself, you will guarantee a success at this stage. Search through company website, ask people, check publications, and eventually write down particular projects and particular researcher whom you'd like to work with.
Do you need to have work authorization or US citizenship?
    Is it paid?
    Do you have working hours?
    Is there free food?
Are there performance requirements/ do you need to write a paper?
    Can you convert?
Can you extend Residency to another year?
What are you expected to do after?
... and more ... in the video!

4:18 Thank you for this life hack! I've been hesitant to put a paper I submitted on my CV/resume that wasn't accepted, but it's good to know this flies. Well, I've been hesitant to write a legitamate CV at all, and I just have a resume. A Google recuiter told me a while back they get so many applications that they can't really waste time on CVs so she felt that they were a waste of time to write. But I think now that I'm a MS in AI grad and I'd like to apply to essentially Research Engineer roles, I should put one together and care a bit less about how I haven't done anything that groundbreaking and care more about how I look on paper.
