This morning, as more roads become available the more the destructive power of Hurricane Milton's storm surge is revealed. Manasota Key, Florida was by far the hardest hit. Some homes were completely swept off their foundations, others who were cracked during Helene caved into Hurricane Milton's final blow. Some residents told me a couple of people had just bought their dream retirement home here, and were awaiting to move in to start their retirement. Sadly, that dream is now a nightmare.
Thank you for not putting an infernal soundtrack over the video. The silence makes the images much more impactful.
Capitalism and freedom is why people build where they build. The market is never wrong. Now go tell the poor people in the mountains how not bright they are for living where they do/did.
After these 3 Hurricanes, land will get sold and the beaches will never be what they were. Just memories. Tourism will decrease for sure. Maybe they just won't stay long in a junk pile! Sad but true.😮😢
Best video I’ve seen!!! News anchors won’t show this!!! What a devastation!!! May God be with everyone that got hurt!!!
maybe the insurance companies be with you before god gets around to it . . JS
W do u know it's not footage fro mk Helene or Ian. How do u know it's current? U don't
Все им оплатят и восстановят😢😅
Huh? News anchors LOVE to show stuff like this. They’ll go to a place with little damage and stand in front of the one little pile of rubble while they give a report. There’s plenty of devastation and it’s all fair game.
Apparently your imaginary sky hero was not there for them. What a smarmy ""virtue"" posting.
And we wonder why are Insurance is so high here in Florida!! Nice Video of the damage!
No house in the state of Florida is insurable anymore
There may be an insurance crisis after Milton and Helene at least.
@@stephenpowstinger733there has been an insurance crisis for four years already in Florida! At least half these homes don’t have insurance!
@@jtpalooki7757 Yup, there used to be a state funded insurance program but DeSantis caved to insurance lobbies to remove it. It was providing competition for regular insurance companies but now they can charge a whole lot more. More and more home owners are going without hoping to luck that nothing happens. Something happened.
The insurance crisis isn't the product of hurricanes. It is the product of criminals and litigation. Hippies know everything tho
5 Stars! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Best video I've seen by far showing ground zero - Exactly what to expect from a Cat 4 storm along the beaches.
IT WAS A CAT ** 5 **...NOT * 4 *...
@@odettetenney409 No both of you are wrong it was a cat 3 with 120 MPH sustained winds when it made landfall. If it had been a cat 5 or a strong cat 4 those houses would have been completely gone.
@@cruzanmongoose we have a winner! Cat3 it was. However some of those raised houses with little to no damage look as though they were constructed to handle a 4 or 5.
@@marlac1334 not even raised house on stilts 20 feet high can survive a cat 5 with 30 foot surge.. keep dreaming.
It was a Cat 3 with 120 mph at landfall. For you non Floridians, landfall is determined when the actual center of the eye itself touches land. I have lived in Brevard county and Orange County for 35 years and have been through 20-30 hurricanes. The damage in the video is mostly from the surge. 120mph winds are not strong enough to blow concrete walls down like that but the entire ocean slamming into those walls will no problem. Most of those homes were built to withstand very strong winds but unless you have a 2 foot thick concrete reinforced 25 foot high wall around your house protecting you from the ocean then you’re screwed.
Thank you for sharing. Praying for family and loved ones affected by the hurricane and tornado’s .
The stilt houses performed as designed. The ground floor partitions are designed to break away during a storm surge. Unfortunately, the ground level homes did not fare well.
I'm honestly a bit surprised seeing just how many ground-level houses in a row were on a barrier island and close to the water. Not putting a home in such a place on stilts just seems like starting a very slow game of Russian roulette.
@@AlohaChips Mainly due to the age of those homes. Little thought or planing went into the houses in those days, hurricane wise. This is why in wealth Naples, even fairly new luxury beachfront homes are being torn down and replaced with more robust building.
I believe building codes changed quite a few years ago applying to homes built after that date. They should have listened to the original inhabitants of Fl. The Indians made use of the coastal areas for fishing but they didn’t build permanent structures on the beach.
@@AlohaChipsyes… I know many of the homeowners. They all knew it was only a matter of time. Most homes were built in the 50’s and people enjoyed them while they lasted. Now that they are gone they will all be rebuilt on stilts - about 20 feet above sea level. When / if this happens again the water will just roll underneath.
@@baconnic My grandparents had home on the Key. Will miss that leafy canopy on streches of Beach Rd
Thanks for the Drone videos
Everyone thinks it can never happen to me. That I have lived here for years and never got any flooding or damage. Well I lived in NJ when Sandy hit me. I said the same thing and bam that day we got flooded out. Rebuilt , sold and moved out of NJ. It sucks and I feel so sorry that anyone has to go thru it.
I left because I knew it was just a matter of time before the gulf coast got a major hurricane. It's going to take years for the state to recover.
Move to the mountains where it never floods, oh wait
And that's only from DeSatans governship😂😂😂.
Great footage -thank you for sharing -sad -so much destruction
Really fantastic work. Just what I was looking for. Can you do all the barrier islands from Manasota to Anna Maria Island? That would be great
Today video was out of mind Just the images connected with the perspective of each of us in this terrible and sad devastation. Thank you for your work .
The sea walls tell the story of beach erosion. Also the rocks. These efforts are hopeless, the ocean continues to take more and more beach. Sadly the owners need accept the facts, and limited zoning for rebuild.
Sorry to hear it. I left Florida a few years ago because of the rising cost of living, traffic, insurance costs and lack of high paying jobs. I don't see how average people can "rebuild" if they can't even afford the rising cost of living. Only rich people can afford to "rebuild" or have a new 2 level house with hurricane rated anchors into the foundation and high impact windows built!
Oh Tampa Florida hasn't had a direct Hurricane hit in 100 years. Untouchable by a Hurricane ! Doesn't Hammer have a house there ? " Can't touch this " ! 🤔
Truth.
It kinda sucks down here. As a musician there is a weird hierarchy down here, the best play at home and the hacks have the gigs. Illegals ruined the trades. The work situation sucks. I hope Trump wins and mass deports.
@@ag4allgood 🤣
@@peter-ek3uh It's sad. I did notice a lot of illegals in Tampa and surrounding areas. Was not like this when I lived there.
Can't imagine why, oh why one would imagine building anything on a sand bar at sea level on a barrier island in the face of hurricane alley that nothing could possibly happen.
Man !!
That is amazing footage !
Great video !!
Thanks for making these vids 🙏
The first words out of my mouth, were HOLY SHIT !!
👍
How r u sure it's current footage though? Could be from Helene or Ian
Sad how I always think of the poor stray cats & dogs that are probably dead after all of these storms. People are resourceful but stupid, animals are helpless. 06:50... wtf is a garbage truck doing out there?

I've watched so many videos to see if The Pearl is still standing, and so happy to see that it is. Great video. Thanks for covering the beach homes. Most sand the key has had in 40+years.
Sort of surprised this did not happen prior ...they are right on the water ...these folks.. cant get any closer..
Only if they build out on the water with pontoons ! 😎
The beach used to be much longer.
This place suffered a lot of damage due to the storm. Thank you for sharing it for the world to see.
My heart goes out to these families that are experiencing total devastation, but one must wonder why anyone would build and live THERE? Its not a matter of "if" ... its a matter of "when" a storm will destroy you :(
Absolutely outstanding video , thank you
Got a great idea lets build right on the Beach front ! What could possibly go wrong ?
Where there is a beach, there are houses right on the beach over all the world. I personally will not live in a beach house long termly, but it doesn't mean people should never build houses there. There are a lot of disasters happening all around the world, tornados, earthquakes, floods, mudslides, landslides, severe droughts. If there is a perfect place free of all disasters and everyone lives there, can you imagine how crowded it must be?
Mother Nature sent her drone named “ Milton” and it left a message for sure/ this is her territory…
It wasn’t registered as a Cat 5, it was registered as “ Independent “…
Four observations: 1. Ground level homes don't have a chance. No pilings; no house. 2. Extensive rip-rap doesn't help in a big storm. 3. The bay side fared much better. 4. The sable palms were unscathed.
I was just at this area last year. Some of the homes I remember are no longer standing. So sad.
Mostly OLDER construction got destroyed, but some newer ones took some big hits too. The "eye" went right over my house and there was very little damage, but then again I am less then 10 miles away from Lido Key. Sarasota could have been wiped off the map if it was a CAT 5 with it's HIGHEST speeds. We were fortunate.
What were you thinking when you built a house on a Sandspit?
❤да, так близко к воде😥
It’s a barrier island and they were thinking they wanted to have a beautiful house with a better view than anyone else and a nice beach access. They shouldn’t be allowed to build in these places.
Play expensive games, get expensive prizes.
Move to the mountains where it never floods, oh wait
@@richardmesser1091 No place is safe! Climate change is coming for all of us!!! 🫣
Excellent footage! Thanks from New Hampshire!
Lesson learned, don’t build on a sand beach. Who gets to pay the increase insurance that we all have to pay for these folks to rebuild on a sand beach?
Yup and a law that says insurance agencies can be done through AI and nobody needs to be making those salaries unless your doing grueling skilled manual labor. The kind of slimy bastard it takes to let alone be an insurance agent just screams lazy/ greedy/ manipulative/ selfish and unskilled.
Look at those two homes at the 4:50 mark. Almost unscathed. Who constructed them and how are they made? The roofs...the facade...incredible resilience.
Remember these words "Own nothing and be happy"
How many homeless folks are happy
And people continue building on barrier islands?!?!?!
Money and greed! It should all be public camping and beaches on all of our barrier islands. The state should've never sold them off...
That part I don't understand is that some of these homes are built flat to the ground.
The laws for coastal construction have drastically changed in the past few years. Newer homes are built to withstand tidal surges from hurricanes. Notice that some of the homes have minimal damages.
@@DeathByFishing and people keep building on barrier islands.?!?!?!
@@DeathByFishing Yes the structures seem to be intact but that can be deceptive.
0:29 that's what you get for taking over a beach. The beach is going to take you over
My home had a tidal ditch in South Carolina I didn't live on the beach it flooded twice in 3 years. This was in 2018 and 2020. I packed my bags and left 😮
stop building on the beach
The turtles second your opinion. There need to be higher premiums for the fools that build on the beach, and coverage limits to discourage these "pink elephant" homes.
oh brother this guy stinks
But Manasota Key is 6 feet above sea level. So it's all good until sea hits 7 feet or 10 feet or 15 feet. But that will never happen...right?
@@glh_somemore florida gonna sink in the next 60 years 😭
@keeperwalls1437 Society is sinking along with it. Waterworld here we come.
I don' feel sorry for these people anymore. They're homes are an inch away from the coastline. Live on a boat if need to be that close. 🎉
it's so eerie, to se it like this😢
You can build on Barrier Islands, but you have to build higher! At least 20 feet above the water.
Great coverage, but sad to the residents. In many of the homes I do not see furniture as part of the debris.
You do an awesome job. That is way to close to the water for me.
I know you are very close to Nokomis.
Can you please cover Nokomis also? I would appreciate it. I have a aunt and cousin that lives in Nokomis.
Thanks for silent footage. It just shows you that sound construction is possible. If one can not afford that, move elsewhere.
Look how slender Manasota Key is. Plant mangrove trees and grape leaves to start building up to help other barrier islands as well.
Those homes have a nice open, airy feel to them now. Great views from every room. Not much privacy but hey……..
It's crazy how most of the homes are a complete loss and a few look like they have very little damage
Even if they look good the water got in- except for the houses on stilts.
The ones up high suffered less damage, up on columns so the water goes under.
The quality of the materials, design and builder clearly show in these photos. Some homes are simply gone. Others remain intact.
Think of the story of the three little pigs.
Would love to see some footage of the southern part of the key - from the "downtown" beach area to the south.
A new pass was formed about 1/4 mile south of the state park parking lot!
It’s a great place for a park
seeing some of the destroyed houses, land, roads etc, how much stress can a person take before you throw in the towel and move
What a beautiful elegant home at the beginning. What a shame.
Nature has never intended houses to be built there.
Unless you build solid concrete houses. In Mexico they don't do wood down there, only concrete!
Mangroves used to inhabit this area, mangroves will reclaim what some took from mother nature...
It doesn't matter what they're built with when they're built on an impermanent piece of land. Barrier islands form from waves depositing sediment parallel to the shoreline. As wind and waves shift, so do the islands- constantly moving, eroding, and growing.
Did any of the round hurricane/tornado houses survive the storms?
"1000 year storm" say the global warming deniers. "Wait until next year" says Mother Nature.
Florida needs new building codes! Only steel reinforced concrete walls and concrete roofs.
You mean build back better ?
The current building codes are much stricter.
The new codes are already in place. Notice how the newer homes have very little damage?
Is this the section between Blind pass beach and Englewood for somewhere else? I stayed in that area last winter and wondered how it fared. Watching it again I see the Pearl beach inn. Your drone and video skills are incredible!
It's south of middle beach in the area we used to call the reef
It’s north of blind pass
Almost all of this is the north end of the key. I’d like to see the public beach area, the stores, circle k and the white elephant bar. Otherwise, good job. There is, or was a small trailer park on the south end also. I wonder if any of that is left.
Agree, video of the southern part of the island would be nice.
There is a video of that side, I watched yesterday, I don't remember the author but yes the trailers and pre-fab houses didn't fair well
That area was hit hard. All of the old 1 story homes were ruined. The newer higher buildings to code did ok.
The insanity of a county garbage truck trying to do its normal weekly trash pickup on a now deserted sand bar with no trash cans in site.
Maybe he's trying to a clear road by impacting the sand.
Any chance you can get video of the 6000 to 7000 block of Manasota Key Road?
Absolute annihilation.
I am sorry for these families and the community.
Thank you for sharing
And then we have people wondering why they can’t go on the Key yet
I’d like to see barrier islands be declared nature reserves with permission for tent camping and hiking only, no vehicles except for rangers.
That sounds devastating! Storm surges can cause so much destruction. How is the community coping with the aftermath, and what steps are being taken for recovery?
How did Manasota key beach resort do during the storms?
I'm shocked how close to the shoreline these homes were built to begin with. So sad to see this much devastation. 💔 I can't imagine how hard this will be for anyone returning to be left with this.
Most of the homes that failed structurally were not built to the current codes. Florida changed coastal construction codes a few years ago to avoid total loss of your house. Very sad to see the damage.
Used to Tarpon fish there with a buddy out of Englewood.
Please tell me exactly where this is please?
Manasota Key
Could you put text of what place were looking at?
Manasota Key
Is this the section between Blind pass beach and Englewood for somewhere else? I stayed in that area last winter and wondered how it fared.
Development and gullibility
And we'll see it again before the seasons over.
How’s Boca Grande?
I would think they wouldn't allow people to rebuild there. We had an area in Texas hit like that many years ago and they weren't aloud to rebuild.
Florida People I will pray for you. Stay Safe
People build homes like this is the first hurricane to ever hit florida.
Most of those homes were built from 1960 - 1980
😢 Paradise 😢
American homes are not designed for this weather!!!.IMO😮
Paradise lost and found
@@MyLoganTreks This Earth will be a paradise after all mankind's nonsense has been removed!!
looks calm , now ! 👍
Build your castle on the sand.. watch what happens.
We moved here 3 yrs ago and watching how they bring in sand to build houses on top of it blew my mind. I have no idea how that is a sound idea.
Exactly 💯. What do they think will happen if your building on the sand. It's only god reclaiming his land. 😂😂😂😂😂
Exactly all rich people, so i really do not care!
Omg,, I didn’t even think that way about it,, u build a sand and OCEAN will wash AWAY…
It has nothing to do with the sand. It’s the water that causes this damage along with the wind. Not everyone there is close to being rich
Lotta key runs and memories on this key , won’t be the same anymore …
I would like to see a before and after of storm damage if that would be possible.
I've got chills! Guess we know where the eye was. I cannot believe this is us..
So sad😢
The houses are destructed... would be so hard to recover after all this
Wow. Paradise lost.
I looked at a house on the ocean side in Clearwater Beach and property taxes were $18,000. a year. That house is gutted now.
Prime example of not following coastal building codes. Hardly any homes on stilts.
El mar ! El mar puede levantar olas gigantes.😮😮😮
These days it is hard to decide what is the worst thing about Florida. The damage from the weather and nature, the weirdo population, or the high cost of living including insurance.
Aside from your other assertions, that "weirdo population" you mentioned...what is your basis for that statement and what city & state are you representing?
@@getbackinyourownlane any state that does not have to put up with Florida weirdos
People have to learn to respect nature and avoid building homes next to the ocean.
How did the homes on the Lemon Bay side fare?
Many of the single story homes around Indian mounds park were gutted along around Dearborn also. Homes and marinas around placida fared the same.
So heartbreaking to the residents there. In flood prone areas in other states, the government has bought out businesses and homes to relocate. Perhaps the government needs to do this on barrier islands and turn them into public parking, beaches, with modern hurricane structures to lease to businesses.
It appears the north end of the key suffered much more damage. Am I right about this?
The whole key got it… there were still so many older homes there that were not up to code. Very few old homes made it.. so where there were old homes, there was devastation.
Good Lord what a devastation 😱
Very sorry for the people who lost their homes, but this is truly nothing compared to Western North Carolina right now.
All of this waterfront property should be given back to nature. Have a few state parks and leave the rest alone. What is the definition of insanity?
People cannot get enough from " wondering".
Any word on how high the surge actually was? Only houses on stilts appear pretty unscathed and all one-story units would have been flooded.
It looks like the sand was washed away at least 4 feet deep along the water and who knows how many yards of beach are now gone.
It is a surprise these islands were not washed away
Question for engineers, does the building of homes & infrastructure affect the stability of these barrier islands. I'm interested to know. I'm concerned about the hoons we have on isolated beaches here & the damage they do ripping up the dunes etc.
Welcome to Florida
No way it will ever be cleaned up again. Sad to say. One person can and has resources to take care of their place, the next person does not. To restore beautification is nearly impossible.😥😥😥
