I have 03 beetle 2.0 and it stopped pulling so I checked the trasmission fluid.started it up it smoked really bad.its never done that, ran for 10 minutes and stopped.its got a loud tap so do you know if it's a valve, timing,or the engine just shot.if you could reply I would appreciate it bro
I just replaced my timing belt, tensioner & water pump after watching this video. Thank you for the "junkyard version". It really helped to have a clear view of the work prior to doing it.
Thank you for this video. I'm 5 miles from a fire and desperately trying to save my VW from the fire. Had it all torn about and this morning working on getting timing done so I can get everything put back together and drive it off.
Very good demo, thanks. Having the engine out was a big help for me. I just learned that the water pump is driven off the timing belt as compared to chain cam engines where it has to be driven off the serpentine belt. Thanks again!
hey cody.i just got the entire kit and about to atemp this job tomorrow. part 2 would be greatttt.plz! this is the best looking video that i can use to get it done accurately.and the water pump and replacement of the timing belt is what i need.
3:10. Before you remove the serpentine pulley, you should note that there is a timing mark on the edge of this pulley that lines up with a slight depression on the metal timing cover. I painted these white.
Cody, please either post the link to part 2, or link someones good video that covers what you lost, or just pull this down. Its really great to see this job without the car in the way so thanks for that but you rea)y should put the rest back up.
Thanks for doing this video! Excellent tutorial, I am glad it's outta the car made it to easy to grasp! Do you have a video of this engine being put in the car?
Yeah i have nice impacts but always find myself wrenching i feel like its better that way. Part two was going to be tonight but i got side tracked shooting my mini web series called scrappers , so ill finish the timing video tomorrow soon ill be shooting multi-cams too just waiting on my new computer to be finished being built to keep up with editing multi
ok i shot the part two but it seems to have gone missing so part two will be back up later this week sorry bout that everyone i dont know how that happened. Thanks for watching !
Any luck with part 2? Really I'm just looking for a picture of the engine with the water pump removed so i can see if anything is missing from behind it.
can't seem to find pt2 vw jetta 2003 timing belt replacement. was you ever able to upload after it went missing? I like the video it has really helped big time.
I don't know what ever happened to part 2 but I don't see it here and shouldn't the video automatically load right into part 2? Do you have a link you can post that takes us right to part 2?
Great video helped me out alot with my 1st vw timing belt, but my camshaft position sensor has thrown a code. So is that normally off 1 tooth, or do these sensors go bad if removed, I had to replace camshaft gear too
Quick question . I have to get my cam lined up to the mark on the plastic , I have to turn it by hand . Before I do this . When I stick my screw driver in the #1 spark hole. Is it suppose to be down or up? I believe #1 and #4 are down right now .
My engine is disassembled and parts are spread everywhere in my garage since 2013. I've been waiting for almost 7 years for freaking part 2 and it doesn't look like it's coming out anytime soon. Well, guess I'll throw my car away or take it to the dealership :(
I'm looking at a 98 Jetta 2.0 to buy and was wondering if it's fairly easy to get to the timing belt to change it and the water pump while the motor is in the car? How many miles are one of these motors good for?
I can't get my timing belt back on without a lot of force. Do you have any tips or tricks on how to get it back on? Its on the water pump and crank sprocket but just cant seem to get it on even with tensioner very loose. Also, I don't have a tool for the tensioner. Any idea on how to do final adjustment? My engine is in the car btw. thanks!
Yes it takes a lot to get it on then after you slide it over the pulleys' water pump, crank and cam it will loosen up some. I actually use a flat piece of metal to help slide it on.You dont need a special tool for the tensioner , anything like a small allen to hold it back will work then just simply line up the arrow to the v , tighten it and your done.
This thing KICK MY @$$!!! Everytime I thought I had it, the crank would turn a few teeth backwards. I finally got it to work by a) turning the crank a few teeth forward to account for it turning back and then b) sliding the tensioner halfway off the bolt it sits on. Had to get a lil mirror to line the the "V" and tha arrow and guessed my @$$ off as to what 15 ft/lbs feels like with a wrench. LOL.. The sad thing is. I saw a youtube video where a guy slipped his belt back on with tons of room to spare. That made me really think I was doing something wrong. you really ought to post part 2. People would probably vote for you if you ran for office. :) Thanks for responding.
Nfocus Onu yeah ive seen a few that people seem to have plenty of slack with the belt but i always seem to get the ones that are tuff to get on myself but i rather it be tight than too loose. As long as you got it in the middle of the v and tightened it then you are good. I always rotate the motor by hand a few times to make sure nothing hits and if nothing makes contact then your good. Yeah ill have part two up for the second time here soon. Ill have more jetta videos going up as well
I recently got on 03 Jetta (with a 2.0) as a project car, but I seem to be missing the lower timing cover bolts, I know you said they were a 10mm head size, is there any chance you know the thread size too? I want to go pick some up.
Hey, I messed up the cam sprocket timing. how can I tell if its timed with no markings? I keep checking the bell housing and I cant see any indication what so ever. this is so frustrating. please help :)
Can anyone help me I removed timing belt to replace the water pump but seems like I didn't set timing right and my car won't start now what shall I do?? Any suggestions . Please
need Some help, changed the water pump on my 2004 Jetta, Not easy at all. Got it back together and it starts but is out of timing, it runs. Any suggestions?
Really appreciate this video .... really helps! I hope you might be able to show a little more close-up detail on how absolutely, positively set the timing marks? I bet a bunch of us would be willing to chip-in and buy you a very large pizza for this :) !! Thanks again .... great video --
And what do you do when some moron prior to you owning it has stripped the 6mm hex bolts that hold the bottom pulley on? I am tempted on seeing if a mechanics will pull them off and replace them.
I pounded a 12mm Socket onto each one and they finally came out. Thankfully didn't have to drill them. Went to hardware store and got some new ones that are much nicer grade 10. Was not a fun job very little clearance on the Golf to do it. Now to replace my Inner Tie Rods and ends.
Hello, i have to change my cam position sensor. Any idea how to remove my cam gear with out damaging it.... went to the junk yard and totally destroyed them. Pls help :(
depends cuz a cabrio is a way diff 2.0 for those years and a 2.0 pre 99 is also different and some have fly by wire throttle bodies and some are cable you just have to look also some older are distributor and then they go to a whole diff system after 98
I was told the transmission code would be located in the trunk under the spare tire but no luck, anyone can help with this please. (99 jetta 2.0L stick shift) thanks in advance
Dude....WTF! You make no reference to the crank pulley mark and the pulley clearly moves when you pull the belt off. Wow!! Hope you're bonded :-) Luckily you have no liability for ignorant RUclipsrs fucking their engines based on your video.

Well done,I like the fact that you don't hammer everything off with an impact gun and air ratchet! Looking forward to part 2.

they are all sorts of fun to remove and yes if its in any kind of way messed up i always replace them!
