I've had one of these for a few years now. Although the pop-out hidden cupholders may seem neat, they're actually pretty terrible, and I've gotten into the habit of lining them with paper towels before using them for cold drinks in order to keep condensation from dripping all over my stereo. The acceleration? Yeah, it's more than 'adequate' and it has torque for days- but I wouldn't call the engine note 'satisfying' by any stretch of the word. It's not very rev-happy for a 4 cylinder, and seems happiest at 2500-3000 rpm. And it does indeed get tail happy if there's even a hint of moisture on the pavement. It's the worst car ever in snow. But you hit the nail on the head about everything else. It's extremely roomy inside for such a tiny car. I actually like the lack of a footrest because it allows me to stretch out... a couple of years ago I took an 8 hour road trip and could have easily gone another 8, it's just that comfortable. PS- how could you do a review of this car without showing off the roof? The heaters in these things are more than powerful enough to allow top-down drives in colder weather!
I bought a SLK 230 in silver colour last year in october and I must say it´s the most joyous car I ever had by far! Just can´t waite for spring and summer, driving with the roof down wich I hardley have not done yet because of winter season.
I just got a used 2003 slk230 and am in the process of fixing the roof. They have a tendency for the o rings in some of the pistons to get worn out. Although there is that it is a nice car
You didn't mention that this car has a retractable roof. It's a coupe as well as a convertible.I agree with your remarks about how great the car feels and sounds under hard acceleration. It likes to go fast. I love to take corners at high speed.

This is not a facelift edition. It's pre-facelift. Notice the plastic rather than painted door handles and the missing signals in the outer mirrors. No ESP button on the inside. Other than that, well done.

Those 2 humps on the hood and the exact matching wheelbase are a direct nod to the first supercar/roadster of theirs the 300sl.

No No NO! its not an SL230 Kompressor edition. Its an SLK 230. The SLK is a completely different car to an SL. Surely you should know this.
Great review! But some of the interior bits are cheap and flimsy. But gotta love the supercharger!
