    Anyone else feel like this is the real Braille. Not just a gimmick skate channel? The games of skate are enjoyable dont get me wrong but I just feel like they have to change it up a bit. Do more of lances progression. Go back to skate supports. That kind of stuff is why alot of people came to this channel in the first place. I understand though that doing daily videos it would be quite hard to try to keep the content fresh.

  • @Adam-TheThorn
    @Adam-TheThorn 4 года назад +2

    This is old and was playing in the background while I was working, but I heard Lance talking about how he found it interesting that backside 180's are harder than frontside. I was the opposite. Normal backside 180's are way easier for me, and switch frontside (including all variants of that way of turning) are all easier for me. The normal frontside 180 and switch backside 180's are tough, but somehow I can pop switch backside 180's and nollie frontside pretty high. They just feel so odd and take so much energy and deliberate thought about what my shoulders and head are doing.

  • @shezli5715
    @shezli5715 10 лет назад +1

    Nicely done. Lance is really getting the motion by the end and that's a hard trick to learn!

  • @justinpittman4854
    @justinpittman4854 6 лет назад +2

    Agreed that the last 20 degrees of turn was a bit of a barrier, but for me I just focused on fully rotating my head and shoulders and it just happens naturally. It'll even help pivot through if you keep your shoulders turning all the way through the trick. Also agreed about lifting your feet a bit higher, that made my BS 180s a little cleaner! Love this trick, so simple, but looks cool

    Great job Lance. Progress is progress man. Love that you made the effort to improve your skill, which is the name of the game. It's also a good tip to watch oneself on film. Sometimes you don't realize that you're not centered over the board, but video catches everything. Aaron's suggestion to film head on was perfect, because you can see how far forward Lance is leaning. Even when the rest of his body is centered, tilting the head and neck down to watch the board shifts the center of gravity off-axis. I realize this has nothing to do with skateboarding but from a pure physics center-of-gravity standpoint, some tips that tennis players and golfers use might help. Keeping your eyes on the ball without tilting the head and neck down improves the game of many a tennis player/golfer. Anyway, keep up the great work, and keep skating. Practice is everything !! :)

    @matthewdrury6443 8 лет назад

    Trying to learn to skate again at 33 and I have the same issue with this trick, my board lands behind me on my frontside 180s. I've been thinking about why. I think you're right aaron, it's very easy to lean forward, and then jump forward, when doing the frontside 180. For the backside, it's pretty much impossible to lean backwards and jump backwards, just because the hip joint on your body only bends one way. I'm going to have to focus very hard on jumping straight up.
    Thanks for all your content and instruction, it's very helpful to someone like me.

    • @matthewdrury6443
      @matthewdrury6443 8 лет назад

      I'm finding nollie kick turns (just a 180 kick turn off the nose in your regular stance) is helping me get more comfortable with moving my weight around in the way you need to for the frontside 180. Going to keep practicing that until it's really smooth.

    Im learning Ollies for about 3 Months and I still have some Problems to Land it straight, especially while Im moving. I know from skate supports that I have to keep my shoulders straight and that I should be Balanced when I jump. But still it turn a bit...
    Maybe it's because my board is to small? Got an 7.75 Deck and shoesize US 12/12,5... Does anyone Gott the same problem?

    I was jsut out trying BS 180s for an horu and couldn't do it. I wasn't even close. I got like, 2-3 close trys and that's it. Hopefully this helps me next time I go try them. I find BS 180s WAYY harder than FS. My FS 180s are very clean and nice, while I can't do shit with BS 180s.

      If you haven't figured them out yet, try this: When preparing to pop your BS 180, turn extra with your body before popping, like atleast 90 degrees to backside direction, then just pop straight up and remember to lift your knees. This helped me getting them, also helps with your big spins when it comes to them.

    I find it kind of interesting that with such a technical sport, that there's not a lot of sports science done on skateboarding. I've seen physics videos of it, but I haven't seen anything that explains all the aspects of muscles and balance used in skating.
    Like the backside 180 and frontside 180 require balance, the ability to squat while distributing your weight fairly evenly, leg abduction from your lead leg, the ability to quickly twist your body, the ability to jump explosively, and to balance on landing.
    Do pro skaters go to strength and conditioning centers to work on these fundamental movements? Because to do these tricks it requires a lot of squatting, balance, jumping, and leg abduction.
    Probably misinformed, but in my assumed ignorance, it bothers me that the culture of skateboarding is so anti-establishment and outsider that it seems bereft of the tools other sports use to further their athletic technique and ability.
    Like even in terms of proper athletic wear, it seems impractical to skate in tight jeans and a cotton T-shirt instead of like a specialized lightweight kit that reflects the sun while protecting the skin and having anti-sweat tech.
    But I guess that's embedded in the culture and history of the sport, which is part of the allure that kids really like I guess.

    • @ghagzor
      @ghagzor 8 лет назад +13

      very interesting outlook....

    • @tfaaren
      @tfaaren 8 лет назад +6

      most of the allure that comes from skateboarding, is that it's fun and slightly dangerous. the conditioning for skateboarding, is skateboarding. no one goes to gyms to work on their skateboarding athleticism because it doesn't reflect the techniques or keep your mind in a skateboarding state like skating does by just doing it. the jeans comment was unnecessary. it isn't about looks. some people just like the style and feel believe it or not, and the amount of technique prevention due to what clothes you wear is almost non-existent.

    • @NeonLeonNoel
      @NeonLeonNoel 8 лет назад +1

      Satanic Heathen Thanks for the comment. Yeah, it's peculiar but makes sense that you can't really develop a lot of conditioning exercises for skating because those movements only work when you're on a skateboard, so it'd be tough to come up with exercises. It's also interesting for me because I thought surfers and snowboarders had pretty fit bodies, and wondered why skaters seem to be very skinny. Brandon Biebel is pretty big though.
      I've seen some more skate clothing, it seems like brands make chinos/khakis that have a stretchy feel, almost like the material used in board shorts, breathable but durable. I guess jeans have their function as well because of the durability, I guess skinny jeans in particular are made to be stretchy. Or i've just seen kind of baggy/straight jeans sold by skating brands.
      I've seen Adidas and Nike make shirts that are a little more durable than workout shirts, but have that kind of dri-fit material.

    • @suckmydiakbiach
      @suckmydiakbiach 8 лет назад +1

      Skinny jeans are amazing for skating, they feel like they give you more protection than chinos, they are stretchy and you actually get a lot more freedom of movement in them than baggy clothes. Plus they look great.

      I guess it's becouse you can kinda see where you're going, the whole time, so it's less scarier.
      Well, to me, skateboarding is 60% mental and 40% physical.

    I'm learning this trick switch and I discovered 2 things that help a lot that I've never really heard anyone mention before so maybe I can share what I found and anyone is welcome to tell me if it helps (or if I'm just crazy). Tip#1 : As you start to extend you your legs for the Ollie, your shoulders should be turning backside, but once in the air at 90 degrees, try to throw your shoulders the other direction (frontside), this actually helps the lower body swing the rest of the way through the 180. This can be practiced with or without the board. Tip #2 : This is strange but it helps. Exhale through the trick. I noticed I was having a problem committing, and like my body would just stiffen up at the peak of the Ollie. I then noticed that when my feet touch the ground, I would exhale a big breath, as if I was holding my breath in the air. Because my airway was locked up, my body locked up. I'm trying to get in the habit of inhaling when crouching and then exhaling as I pop and keep exhaling until I land, similar to how weight lifters time their breathing during a rep. Try it out, it really helped me!
