- Here it is everyone the reason why I chose the 2.0L Turbo engine for my 2022 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon purchase. In this video I share some of the reasons why I did not want the another 3.6 pentastar engine and we also install the turbosmart blow off valve for the 2.0L Turbo engine and get that Fast And The Furious vibe now when letting off the throttle. So come along for a install and some explanation on why to choose the 2.0L Turbo engine over the 3.6L pentastar in the Jeep Wrangler. Enjoy.....

I've had many Jeeps. AMC 360, 2.5 YJ, 2.5 TJ, 4.2 YJ, 4.0 YJ, 3.8 JKU. 3.6 JKU and of course- the 2.0 I-4 Turbo. I FLIPPING LOVE THIS 2.0!!!! They are loud little engines, and they demand premium fuel, but they are also amazingly efficient, with amazing MPG's and they are QUICK little buggers. Mine is a 2020 JLUR with 50K miles so far. I adore this engine!
Nice! I need this same mod asap! I’m 5k into my two door rubicon turbo and I love everything about it. I also had a weak 3.6 2014 jk with loads of issues so I had no problem gambling with the turbo, so far I’m very happy!
I’ve had mine since 2018 and I owned the v6 JK before that it’s a little beast of an engine I love it never had an issue.
Excellent one HAMMERDOWN! Definitely worth the effort and i can't wait to see and hear this Jeep take on it's new character! #Turbo -🤘
Sweet! Have a 2020 Willy’s JLU with the amazing 2.0 turbo. Like you I had the 3.6 and earlier 3.8. Dogs in comparison. I reached as much as 28mpg on the highway way above the double nickel. It’s impressive is an understatement. Thanks for the vid and review…I think it’s on my bucket list.
Actually, it’s the same engine that’s in the Alpha Romeo Giulia and Stelvio. I own a Giulia 2.0 and no issues. The engine was designed in Cooperation with Ferrari (which was at least at that time still part of FCA).
It’s not the Romeo engine. I wish people would stop saying that.
Turbo - heard the whoosh! Another great video. :)
Keep that Turbo HammerinDown! Was awesome to see you at olde carr guys live stream
There are quite a few differences between the Jeep and Alfa 2.0T. The Jeep has a home grown VVT whereas the Alfa 2.0T uses Fiat’s MultiAir valve timing. Chrysler/Jeep’s 2.0T is DOHC whereas Alfa’s is SOHC. Also, the Jeep uses an open-deck block design where Alfa uses closed-deck. As for similarities they do have the same turbocharger, induction tube, and Intercooler. Somehow with all of the differences they still consider both in the same engine family and the same nickname. Maserati does have a twin-charged variant of Alfa’s 2.0T.
I did hear that they are moving production to an engine plant in Michigan, not sure how true that is. On my Cherokee the window sticker says the engine origin is Italy as well. I was actually looking into getting the BOV from TurboSmart. Great video! 😁
I will say I think the 8 speed transmission makes all the difference with the JL Wranglers. Both the 3.6 and the 2.0T benefit greatly from that new transmission. I had a TJ, three JKs, and now a JL with the 2.0T and I love it so far.
Definitely heard the woosh. It never gets old. Turbo.
Turbo! Great video
Sounds good!
That’s awesome!!!
Got Turbo smart on 2.7 f 150. It's Great alot fun. ..
I went from a pentastar from a grand cherokee WK2, those have 295 horses but the wrangler have what? 280? But I bought a 2 door Rubicon as well with the turbo. Stock height, did rugged ridge fenders (more clearance) and 17x9s with a -4 offset and 35x12.5 ATs. Bro, it destroys the trails. All I did the BANKS CAI for sound and have their programmer to eliminate all turbo lag. Im in love with it.
I had an issue with the alternator getting mud and splash water in it 2021 2 door rubicon took it in twice had some corrosion issues, i live near the coast and it floods often. I noticed the alternator is pretty low and i can see all the way to the floor, is there maybe a skid plate that could cover that? Also the battery is lower than the 3.6L V6, im kinda regretting it even though i love the feel of the 2L turbo when driving around and off-roading and its great driving up mountains but If i had noticed that detail before buying it I would have picked the 3.6 I had to wait 3 months for parts and repairs.
Thanks for the video! Super informative... Since you would have opted for the 2.0L, would you have considered a 4xe?
Would this same blow off valve even work for a 4xe with the 2.0L turbo engine?
If one was there I would have checked one out for sure
This has been an awesome engine / I had a 3.6 in my jkur and this thing hauls with stock gearing and 37s
Did you do that just for the sound? Does it help or hurt performance and mpg?
When Jeep is parked and you rev it , at what RPM ‘s does it cut off at ? Mine at 3500 RPM . Is that how it’s suppose to be when vehicle is in Park. Please let me know . thank you
I hope you can hear it more in person than on the video, because I could barely, barely make it out. I had a Ford Raptor and that was really cool for the blow-off because it's diverter valve ran through a rubber hose into the engine, so all you had to do was disconnect that hose, and it would blow off to atmosphere, and you could hear it really well. Of course it helped that that was a bigger engine with twin turbos :-)
I couldn't hear either
Do you’ll think this will work on a 2023 jeep compass?
Do you need a tune/ retune after installing this?
Blow off valve baby. I knew it! Lol
If you put a cold air intake, it should get louder 😂
Aftermarket intake will make the "sucking" of the turbo louder. When you start adding things like this though it can mess up the engine mapping
Nah minor bolt ons don’t really do much it’s usually cooler less turbulent air and higher flow larger filter and tubing
Do these jeeps have a MAP or MAF sensor?
Recall on water pump bolts. They just need lock tite
Hey , I got a good idea you should do for a cosmetic mod on bo peep is remove the rubicon decal and replace it with Dixie 🤔😊😁👍🏻
Would be awesome
Any warning lights? I figured that there would be since you changed the air flow.
nope it just sounds cool now had it on for a while now love it
Don’t you need a tune for this? I just bought a 4Xe but I used to mod boosted cars and it may not be the same but the metered air going in the intake needs to be recirculated…I’m
Hoping you don’t need a tune because I want one as well haha
Ram 3.0 eco diesel is an Italian engine too no problems
Nice song I like
Still no check engine lights?
How did you get past the mapping not being happy with the extra air not being recirculating
everything seems to be happy
And they have Garret Turbos from factory...great turbochargers
Honeywell
I read all the good reviews about the 2.0T and decided to order my 2023 rubicon XR with it..
I currently have the 3.0 diesel, hopefully i dont notice the lack of torque to much
When did you order? I ordered 3wks ago
@@bzgent I ordered about 4 weeks ago, looking forward to it
@@Sam1986E so what are the comparisons and pro/cons?
@@MexiChriS So far the 2.0T seems to be better than the diesel. It doesn't have as much torque but the 2.0T is much lighter! It performs much better on obstacles when off-roading.
Highway driving the diesel is better
I would say both are great but the 2.0T is much simpler and lighter
You can hear the turbo a bit as well. 🤔Would an aftermarket exhaust make a difference?
Would be louder all together
@@HammerdownMotorsportsUSA yeah lol
I've had my 2.0T Wrangler for 3 and a half years now about 25k miles and have never had a single thing break. Just oil changes
Will this effect your warranty ?.....besides the sound does it effect thew performance at all ? ....Cheers I got 2.0L on order as well Rubi Xrecon package \/
No it functions similar to the factory one just made with aluminum that will last much longer
Good choice! I just purchased a Rubicon 2.0, and its fast, and rides so nice, you will love your new ride!!!!
I heard the 2.0 turbo overheats? Any truth to this
Don’t u need to tune for the bov
You will hear it better when you do a intake
Yes. I have a BANKS CAI without blowoff and that suckers loud with the bigger cone filter and tubing. With the blowoff valve it would get louder for sure
What gas type for this jeep? I heard you have to put premium gas. Is this true and secondly, do you have to change the oil more often because of the turbo.
I use 93 but you can get away with less I believe, I change oil every 3k like everything else
You can run 87 without issue. But keep in mind most, if not all, 87 octane fuel is up to 10% ethonal. You may see slightly lower fuel economy and the reduced octane will not allow the ECU to tune for the best overall engine performance. Use a top tier fuel and you'll be fine. Probability more importantly, do not follow manufacturers suggested oil change intervals or the oil life monitor in the vehicle. People think I'm foolish, but I agree with this content creator, change oil around 3,000 miles. It is the life blood of your engine.
Perhaps it’s my aged hearing, but I’m not hearing it on the road. I did hear it with the hood open though…
Besides the whoosh noise is they’re any real benefit to this modification?
It replaces a plastic part with a billet part and turbo noises of course
I also have a 2021 JLU 2.0t I just hit 30000 and not a problem. The 2.0t makes it fun to drive but what I hate is the cold start engine noise I get but after 2 min it gets quiet. Anyone else has the same problem? Dealer says it’s normal not to worry about.
Mine is a bit noisy on a cold start too but don’t remember my pentastar being much better turbo is way more fun
I usually try to warm up the Oil Temp to at least 100degF in the New England Winters to allow everything to flow properly. And then, I'm off.
Ours rattles on cold start and it annoying. The dealer says it is normal. After 2 minutes or so, when it warms up, the noise goes away. This engine is quick and powerful. We have 40,000 miles on our 2018 and love it.
I have to agree on the engine noise during cold starts. I've had people ask what what is wrong with my vehicle. If I can get them to stand there long enough, like you said two minutes top, the uncomfortable noises disappear and they realize it's not going to drop a valve or anything. LOL Have this in a 2021 Cherokee High Altitude and this little shit hauls ass. Much bigger kick in the ass when passing or pulling out in a tight spot than the anemic 3.2 V6 in the Cherokee or the 3.6 I had in my 2018 Grand Cherokee.
My 2021 sahara same noise it is normal drives me crazy but it is normal
Wow the woosh pretty much disappeared with the engine cover back on
Yeah when you are in the cabin it’s definitely there
Does this install in any way affect the fuel economy? Increase - decrease? thanks!
Don’t think it does just sounds cool
I waant ittttt
What year was the other jeep you had that had the oil leak
It wasn’t a leak it was a bad oil pump that was a 2013
Will this void my warranty🤔😂
Link ....
I guess I’ll keep my dog 2021 JL rubicon 3.6 6 sp, row my own gears to my own tune.
What year Jeep 3.6L did you have?
2013
@@HammerdownMotorsportsUSA Ohh ok..thx
Did you get a check engine light?
Nope
Damn, wish you could hear it from outside
Does this actually do anything for performance or is it just sound?
It will last longer than the stock one since that is plastic but mostly for the sound
@@HammerdownMotorsportsUSA You should check out this video from the Rubiconian, if you're into sound. Me personally I want to get a quiet exhaust coz I don't wanna be super loud in the forest/camping areas etc.
but he put this exhaust on his 2.0 OMG dude. It's louder than my 2008 Mustang was with a loud exhaust. I never knew a 4 cylinder could sound so powerful lol.
water pump issue
will this work on manual transmission
Yup
Nope. Because at this time, you can’t get the manual transmission with the 2.0 turbo.
This is not the Italian version. This is the FCA US Hurricane engine. I know this is an old video, just thought I’d share that info. The Italian is for the Alfas. The GME family is just the project manager of both!
Nicccccccccce
Changing bov with aftermarket unit on a jeep wrangler is a waste of money imo. But something to do... so enjoy.
wasn't a waste for me love the sound
My suggestion is to drive without the engine cover you will hear it more
Can hardly hear that thing. Should have got the supersonic bov. That one made my miata sound like a rally car at 14 psi.
I didn’t hear anything what a do do!😅😂
I didn’t hear anything
It’s there
56k on my 2.0 JL. No issues whatsoever
Check out the service bulletin on the water pump bolts. Mine JUST had a problem at 51k.
They made the water pump bolts a recall now. They sent me a letter to come get it done. Only took them about 40 minutes to do it though so no big deal.
People should know to achieve the factory performance numbers you need premium fuel.
That's alot more money out of your pocket..
You can also expect to replace your turbo sooner than later.
Very expensive.
I always use premium plus let turbo cool before turning it off and regular oil changes should give it a good chance at survival plus warranty for 5 years
Premium fuel is cleaner for. Your car no doubt.
I've seen a ton of vids on RUclips and it seems everyone sees the V6 having more power.
In that case it seems premium fuel will cost alot of money unless you don't drive alot.
I have the v6 one too the turbo seems faster@@Ken-qq6gp
You're supposed to use the octane that factory reccomends, I could be wrong but my research shows no benefits of using higher octane then recommend
Hey just a PSA for y'all tipping the hood alll the way back....if theres any wind out, take min to tie it back. A decent gust could be bad news, real fucking bad if ura working under it.
in have spent the last 2 days changing the cylinder head on a 2.0 turbo on a wrangler, def not an easy job, lot of cuss words, lol
Oof why are you changing it?
Doesn’t FIAT own Ferrari ?
No idea 🤷♂️
@@HammerdownMotorsportsUSA fiat’s parent co. Owns Ferrari. FIAT used to own it but became part of a bigger conglomerate and separated
The Engine is an Alfa Romeo
sei impazzito o cosa 2000 turbo e un gme non e niente fiat alfaromeo ecc
Sorry I didn't hear it I'm old so a lot of 💩 gets past me.
Have u had a frame stud recall...wtf is a frame stud
Just so you know the 3.6 pentastar motor you didn’t like and said it was under powered put out 285hp in a jeep and over 10 million yes 10 million of them were produced it is an epic motor now your super tiny 2ltr I no nothing about well except that my lawn mower motor is bigger lol
The 3.6 had a little more hp but the 2ltr has a little more torque. The engines are really similar in power though
Torque is what matters in a vehicle like a Wrangler and the 2.0 makes about 40 ft-lb more than the 3.6 and at a lower RPM.
In the video, he mentioned that he constantly had to stomp on the gas to keep up with traffic in his 3.6. This is because it doesn't make peak power until ~5000 RPM.
The 2.0T only makes 6hp less to the wheels, but has 47lbs-ft more torque to the wheels. Going from a 3.6 Gladiator on 35s to a Wrangler 2.0T on 35s, it's definitely a noticeable difference, both on the highway, in the city, and off-road.
I'll take the V6 over an italian made turbo motor any day of the week. Yes the turbo might be faster, but it's italian. It WILL break.
2.0 T is made in Detroit
it said italy on my window sticker
😂. Nothing yeb no difference
Waste of money so you have to drive fast to hear a blow off noise.Save your money.
Nothing and the 2L is a dog compared to 3.6L
The 2.0 makes about 40 more ft-lb of torque and at a MUCH lower RPM compared to the 3.6. You must be smoking some strong shit 😂
Not to mention, it also gets better gas mileage.
He’s a hater
No it's not. I've had the 3.6 and the 2.0T, both on 35s. The extra 47lbs-ft wtq in the 2.0 wins, hands-down. Pulls harder, doesn't even notice the larger tires like the 3.6 does, and still gets better mpg.
You should throw a bigger turbo on that tiny pathetic motor.
have the same jeep sahara model and its giving me a hard time getting a check throlley body and jeep goes in lime mode check engine light on tring to find throlley body and no luck 🥹
2022 3.6 RUBI OWNER. FUNNY YOU COWBOYS WHO HAVE TO A. SHOOT DOWN EVERY MOTOR OTHER THAN, AND TALK SMACK. B. SING THE PRAISES OF OWNING A 2.9 TURBO "GEEP!" FACT, A 4 BANGER IS CRAP. A 6 IS BETTER EVERYDAY OFR THE WEEK, AND TUBBI3, GETS SOME EXERCISE AND STOP LYING IN YOUR 4 BANGER.
Yeah… I have one of each 4 banger is faster but both work good
I didn't hear anything
