It's not a jab at the soldiers themselves, it's a jab at the ones who sit behind the desks and give the orders, disposing with peoples lives as if they were chess pieces.
1000% Half of the lyrics are written from that perspective.
Yes it is about soldiers being used as a Pawn.
Nailed it.
"Why do they always send the poor"
Exactly what I was going to say, hence the "hero" part
I’m a war vet. It’s not a jab at military. He’s telling the story from different perspectives. In that part he’s speaking from the perspective of the suits that send them off to fight and how they view these men as disposable hence the name “Disposable Heroes”. He’s (the politician) calling anyone that questions the motive behind it or doesn’t believe in a coward and telling them to fight like maybe a draftee. He’s calling the soldier a blind man because they’ve sold the war to the nation (including the soldier) as they’re fighting to protect America when in reality the reason has nothing to do with protecting America’s sovereignty. This song did come out literally only eleven years after the last military personnel were withdrawn from Vietnam so it was still a war that was fresh on the minds of many Americans at that time. And what they’re saying is absolutely %100 true. That’s how it is. Your life doesn’t mean anything to those people. What’s interesting is that their goal of telling this story from all of these perspectives is to get people to think about these things and talk about them so people will think and question the necessity of it when the leaders of your country are talking about sending these real people off to war. As citizens it’s our responsibility to keep our government in check to make sure our military isn’t sent off to war unless it’s %100 necessary because these aren’t just pieces of garbage to be used and tossed away but real people that do matter. And it appears that even decades after it was recorded they’re achieving that goal because here you two are listening, thinking about it, and talking about it.
Its a song about old NFL players
@@theotherLewbowski Ha! Riiiight! 👌🏻😉
@@pulsatingsausageboy2076 it is..hetfield said it himself on Joe Rogans podcast a few years ago. I suggest u watch it
@@theotherLewbowski I’ve seen it and that isn’t what he said at all. I suggest you watch it with someone that understands English that can explain what he said to you.
Absolutely 100% this. I know for a fact James respects soldiers. What he doesn’t respect is the government and their cavalier attitude towards sending Americans off to die for what’s essentially lies. So many wars and “skirmishes” or “military actions” weren’t about ending threats to our sovereignty. They were political wars with other agendas, but soldiers are lied to and have it drilled into them that they are protecting the country. That doesn’t mean they don’t realize this, but when you are out getting shot at, it doesn’t matter, you’re there to protect the people there with you. That’s not on the soldiers, that’s on the leadership, which is who this song is condemning.
I served 20 years in the military and I never took this song as a jab at us that were serving. I always saw it as being more critical of the industrial military complex.
Best workout song! 11B GBR!
Its a song about NFL players
@@danielsawdyjr.3642 Amen..I second that. I have mad respect for the military....and not much respect for suits that send them to horseshit wars for no good reason. I never blame the warrior and want those who use them for fodder held to account. I'll always support those in uniform and their families. 100%!
Lex is definitely a metal head at heart. I love seeing her enjoy this.
As a former petty officer in the USN, I never took offense to this song & I don't know any of my friends who served in the branches who did. Basically COs just throw human bodies at the enemy during war.. just fodder. Cheers to all the other veterans out there 🥂
Agreed.....what years you serve, ships? I was 89-93...USS Missouri BB63 and USS Fox CG33. Thanks for your service shipmate.
Exactly! This is always how I felt .. this was our jam in Korea
08-12, I was on the Ike for the '10 cruise. AT3 (AW) and I felt the same way as OP.
Navy vet here and I love Metallica. No offense taken. Kill em all to Justice are incredible!!!
I Thank yall for your service. You all are appreciated and your sacrifices will never be forgotten. Thank You.
When Lex is smiling on a riff or solo, she puts a smile on my face too. She is definitely a metalhead! Rock On girl! Metallica has one of the best riffs and solos. Brad is more into the meaning of the songs. Perfect combination for reviewing a song. Congratulations guys! I enjoy your reactions.
I always took the lyrics during the “back to the front” chorus to be spoken from the commanding officer.
That is exactly what Metallica was going for, well said.
It exactly that.
that’s because that’s what it is.
Could be commander, or internal "I have a job to do, get up and do it". Both correct
@@ThomasTallant Well, not really considering the lyrics in the first chorus. " Do just as WE say"
This is a 2-point perspective...one from the soldier's point of view whom has become conditioned by the military to follow orders without questioning them, even if he feels he's fighting a pointless war. The other perspective is from the commanding officers, whom bark orders and send people to their death as if their soldiers are disposable. Once again Lex is appreciating the music and it feels like she really wants to rock out. Brad is thinking hard but feeling less. Brad - take Lex to a metal gig soon or I will😂😂
Yes,PLEASE take Lex to a metal concert ASAP!!!! She NEEDS to experience the live energy in person!! You too!!it will open your mind and set your soul free to fly!!🤘
YES!!!@@stephaniegeer1691
"If I was a service member how would I feel about it?"
Army veteran and this song is my favorite track from my favorite band off of my favorite album.
This is what many of us feel/felt like our superiors thought of us. But, then you have badass officers like General Patton dropping quotes that would motivate the dead to stand up and run into the depths of hell if asked to.
I can second this comment as a veteran myself.
I will 3rd that... When I left basic, I wanted war so that I could kill.. who wants to be highly trained and never go to war. Like sitting the bench your whole career.
Yes sir Ive heard the same from several military personnel. I heard for guys in combat it actually got them hyped up for the mission at hand! Thank you for your service sir its very much appreciated! My grandfather served in WW II and I miss him he was great man!
Ty for your service guys, it's too bad politicians use our soldiers how they do but that changes nothing for us citizens. We are grateful for all of you who serve.
Thank u for all of ur service, gentlemen!!
Best song on the Master of Puppets album! The build up of the opening guitars is incredible and continues through the entire song. Masterpiece!!
The smile on Lex's face, during the solo. She's hooked, and she knows it :D
When she looked over at him and he was stone faced and she just closed her eyes like... Not today Satan! 🤣😂🤣
I could watch her listen to Metallica all day.
Yes!!!🤘🤘🤘🤘 She needs her own channel. She has more insight than most of the reaction channels out there.
Somebody! Get the lady her own channel! 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂💪💪💪
Take her to a concert, man!!!
Lex gets it. She understands what the soldiers go through. God bless our troops & America!
Fade To Black
Yes! Fade to black.. musically, lex would LOVE it!
It is always great to see a new metal head being born
It's amazing the effect music can have.
I would like this 10 times if I could!
I was a soldier and myself and a lot of my brothers in arms listened to Metallica all the time! They are the greatest!
I don't think Metallica meant any disrespect to soldiers themselves, these songs were calling out the hypocrisy of government sending fresh 18-21 year olds of the masses to war, sometimes their only sons. These were basically children, just turning of age, off to fight in a foreign land for the greater good. They were barely adults. These albums came out barely ten years after the Vietnam war and it was still a big deal and fresh in the mind of the country in the 80s. Ten years before Desert Shield/Storm this was the biggest war of the era that most people thought we never should have been a part of, and most don't think we resolved anything by sending our youth off to die. Something we had done previously in WW2 and WW1. Remember Vietnam we also had a draft, not everyone who was sent volunteered, lots were drafted and forced to serve.
I am a vet and totally agree with you
Exactly. This was the 80s. We thought icbm"s with nukes was going to be the only war of the future. Dude, I'm getting old.
Well said Sir 👏
This guy gets it!
Add to it the primary strategy midway through the Vietnam War was fighting a war of attrition, believing that the US can replace the fallen faster than the NVA. It turns out that the US had underrepresented the total manpower of the NVA, leading to replacement of leadership midway in the war.
not a jab at soldiers , its a jab at the higher ups starting the wars. They totally support the troops , I am a vet served in Dessert storm and I loved this album . This song came out when I went into the Navy . I cranked this song all the time on the ship and they have done shows to honor the troops on Veterans day , they did songs like this "For Whom the Bell Tolls " and others in support of the troops .
Lex, you get it. Welcome to the metal fam 🤘
My entire line of men in my family served as far back as we go. My blood is all over this land. I have always seen this as a bittersweet song, with the most incredible spoken lyricism being the actual music. Hey, Lex, I JUST SAW METALLICA IN CONCERT TWO WEEKS AGO. I'm 47 and a listener since I was 13... Brad & Lex: please if you've ever seen anything, see them LIVE.
"Disposable Heroes" is about a country's disregard for their troops, who are heroes. It is an anti-war song. Kirk wanted "Disposable Heroes" to sound like the music he'd heard in war films.
The term "Disposable Heroes" comes from the book Fahrenheit 451.
@Yeltnerb 1 It’s all governments not just the US we’re just the most publicized.
@Yeltnerb 1 And their criticism of government is UNIVERSAL.
@Yeltnerb 1 No, that title belongs to China and Russia. Are you daft or stupid?
@@Ryan-sb5pc as the u.s. are the ones pushing the craziest agendas and starting everything. Open your eyes man.
@@hughjanus9557 So China and Russia get a pass? You are guillable, ignorant, or mis-informed.
I've seen Metallica live twice. In 2005 and 2011. Both were amazing. Riding on a adrenaline wave for a few days after, with ears ringing. Best feeling! Lex need to experience it, I can see the metal in her! ;)
Lex is smart as hell,i love this girl, you understood everything!
Congratulations you two, you just leveled up!!!
This album for starters is the greatest metal album ever recorded. In 2016, it was honored with being added to the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress!
I've seen Metallica live over 30 times!! Prior to 2005, there was no band on planet that kicked ass like they did; they were untouchable. Obviously father time takes its toll on us all, and it is true with metallica as well - this song was released 35 years ago!!! I was 14. It was this album that I first found this group, fell in love with metal and this band, and have been a huge fan ever since. Sadly their shows aren't like they were, and their albums don't inspire me like their first 5 did.
I hope Lex gets to go a metal show. If you weren't all the way on the east coast I'd take you both to one. It's like The Matrix. There's no way to truly describe the emotions and energy of a live rock/metal concert. You have to see it for yourself.
If you haven't already, you need to do Master of Puppets, too.
Must do!
ABSOLUTELY! The way Lexi talked about the Music representing the message, there is no better representation of that than Master of Puppets. With the song being about drug addiction and the music itself cycling through the addicts journey of Craving, Getting(the high), and frantic NEEDING of the drug at the end until ultimate death.
I’m assuming when you say master of puppets, you mean the entire album. From front to back. In one sitting.
I was not an infantry soldier, which I believe is the focus of the lyrical content of this tune, but I did serve in a support role in the Army at Ft. Stewart, GA in the mid-'90s working as a Petroleum Supply Specialist (drove a tactical fueling vehicle) keeping the Bradley Fighting Vehicles and M-1 Abram Tanks full of diesel on the ranges during their live-fire training exercises. Our battalion was in the process of preparing a convoy to the Port of Savannah to load our equipment onto a cargo ship being sent over to Kuwait and I distinctly remember our Commanding Officer addressing us in formation prior to departure. He asked us, "What makes the grass grow Soldiers?!?" Our reply..."BLOOD makes the grass grow, Sir!!!" His response was, "WHO'S blood?!?" Our reply to that question was, "The ENEMY'S BLOOD, SIR!!!" It's their way of desensitizing you in preparation for the possibility that, when it comes down to it, it's Kill, or be Killed...
This is the song that made me a fan 30 years ago.
Она звучит так, словно её написали только-что...
Remember the guitar stage in 97
I am fan since 1985 and recently I am trying to understand the lirycs, ( I am from Chile-Southamerica).🤘🤘🎸🎼🎶🎼🇨🇱🇨🇱
Honestly Lex gets it. There are two types of people, people that feel the music and people that completely focus on lyrics or videos. Don’t get me wrong, lyrics are important, but a true metal head ALWAYS pays attention to the music first. Lex is a natural metal head. That being said, this song IMO is a critique on what governments do to their soldiers, it’s not a critique on the soldiers themselves. It’s about the war machine that views their soldiers as cannon fodder. It’s about a war machine that molds young men and women to serve their purpose, and sometimes that’s needed, but sometimes it used for the benefit of politicians and their contractors. Metallica is very pro troops, and have always been. If you haven’t checked it out, check out The Day that never comes video.
It’s important to know that “Perspective” in this music art form is almost NEVER from the first person view.
This song shifted from an “overview” of how the soldier is viewed from a critical eye “ Little soldier boy made of clay, doing exactly what he’s told.”
Then shifted to the view of a soldier by a politician/superior; “BACK TO THE FRONT, I say when you die.”
Finally from the Soldier’s POV dying in the mud griping his Gun.
Metallica are very pro-soldier & anti-war.
Seems to me that the lower, condescending sounding lines from the critical eye and superiors that you mention are acting as 'voices' in the soldier's head, and that some of the other, later lines are sung from the soldier's own voice. The entire song sounds like it's being played out from the soldier's own mind. It actually reminds me a lot of how the title track was written between the master and the puppet, where the voice begins the song and later you hear from the person themself
sorry if this comment doesn't make any sense, it's quite late as I'm sending this lol maybe in the morning I'll have no idea what it meant
Just watch the video for The Day That Never Comes. You see that they are very pro soldier
I wanted to say this myself. Metal songs typically aren’t autobiographical.
I love how you guys jump right into the music. You don't waste any time😊
This WOMAN is CLEARLY a METALHEAD! LOVE IT! Keep going, and have fun with it. And yeah, it is insanely more fun to experience these metal bands in person. Get out there, Jinjer will be doing a ton of shows in America soon.
I can’t wait, honestly one of the few new bands that excite me. Got their last album and it’s genius, can’t wait for their newest one that’s about to drop.
Thank you Brad and Lex for reacting to this song. Metallica songs don't have nice and easy topics to discuss yet provide such thought provoking subjects ... Its easy to agree with pretty much anything Tom MacDonald says but Metallica is a different type of animal ...
Try to remember that MOST metal songs are written as a narrative, often a cautionary tale. It's really not often that they write songs about themselves.
Most metal is about dungeons and dragons..and the devil. Metallica are so different
@@andrewmcgill9544 Lmfao. No it's not. Unless you're stuck in the past.
@@andrewmcgill9544 lol 🤣
As an old school metal head thank you for the laugh 🤘🤘
I’m in my mid 40’s and I STILL enjoying playing the Metallica guitar hero game with my sons!! It’s the best!
The "you coward, you servant" is referring to the war machine and military brass in general, not a dig at the soldiers, themselves, "personally." Back to the front. You're correct, Lex 10:17 Exactly that.
As a decorated US Marine combat veteran this song speaks to me on numerous levels
Lex...In the immortal words of our 👸🏻 Su-Metal (Babymetal). After her first live experience with Metallica during an interview she uttered the famous quote. " Don't think, feel!" Great words to live by.
I must add that advice goes with everything, not just music. su-metal is a smart woman.
I prefer thinking
Music is about life not just the happy moments. This is a masterpiece of musical writing. Songs throughout history have been about heart ache and pains of all kinds.
If you want to feel some concert energy I would suggest either Creeping Death or Enter Sandman live in Moscow.
I SO AGREE
Anything from Metallica's Seattle 89' concert..that was their best concert and they were in their prime.
Absolutely.
Creeping death
Sandman sucks
1989 Seattle is way better
This song gets me every time. I have a weird mixture of pride, embarrassment, and guilt that wells up whenever I hear it. Soldiers are pawns. We're fodder. It's the old lie, where you're told that going to war will bring honor and make you a man. Yet, for those that have seen, there's only destruction, death, and madness.
"Only the dead have seen the end of war"...-Plato. How right you are my friend.
She got it, it's the soldiers perspective. They must do what they are told. New subscriber. Love the vibe. 👍
No. Its a song about old NFL players
Metallica have so many great, introspective tracks. Ya gotta do “fade to black” their best song for sure
I got to see Metallica live 4 times in the late 80's and 90's. Some of the best concerts back in the day. Yep, I'm old
I've seen them live 5 times. Once front row at red rocks (I was in front of Kirk Hammett) for And Justice For All Tour... my friends and I were shouting for this song. They never did this live at any concerts I saw of theirs in person. I've seen some on youtube though. Great to see these guys in concert every time.
That is awesome. I wish I had taken the opportunity to see Metallica back in the day, but it just never happened.
Absolute favorite band to blast in the shop though, they had a real impressive run of albums.
For me it sucks that every time I see a reaction like this it reminds me how old I am. LOL
I hear you there, although I would not trade in having lived through this musical period for anything.
Musically the mid to late 70s through the early 90s is priceless.
A lot of us here old when we see the young listening to the music of our youth.
Got to see them a couple of times too. Right before Newstead left....
I grew up in the Bay area San Jose seen the many a times and I'm old!!!!
Lex is spot on; it’s from the soldiers point of view. “Made of clay, now an empty shell”, “bred to kill not to care” is targeted at how the American military industrial complex influences American culture in a way that young men are “manufactured” to be disposable heroes. “Now an empty shell” is alluding to the “thousand mile stare”, ptsd.
Hetfield is one of the great lyricists in music, not just metal, almost always writing in layers with double, triple, meanings.
The song is indeed about the disposability of soldiers.
The verses are from the soldiers' perspective and the chorus is from the commander's perspective.
I was a soldier and I never felt used, I did my job and covered my brothers backs, And took life when it was the only thing left to do to save and protect others. Just remember no one ever knows what they are getting into when it comes to war.
Guys, PLEASE do Metallic “Orion” it’s 10 min instrumental and it’s fantastic. It’s the creation of the original bass player who shortly after died when their tour bus crashed. It’s a masterpiece and Lex will LOVE it. But review the version on RUclips call “Metallica Orion (Original Creation 1986)”. It incorporates awesome outer space visuals that match the instrumentals perfectly. You’ll definitely enjoy. I’m here to watch you guys watch it! 💪
I often like to say that Orion is my favorite classical music piece to date.
@@bjorknasty2870 Exactly. And Lex likes classical music and metal. I really think they’ll like it. I get that they don’t want to do it live but I think they should at least try it because it’s a musical masterpiece.
He’s not saying that they are cowards, he’s saying that’s what they will say to guilt you into going along with it and not question it. It’s about callousness that military people can sometimes experience.
Lex you said exactly how I feel when listening to Metallica. Its a feeling..everything together. The message/lyrics and the music/guitars/ drums makes it an experience. Metallica is so amazingly talented in bringing you into their story/music. Great reaction! You both are becoming my favorite!💖
I'm 57 yrs old and watching you Rock Out to music I grow up listening to and coming really close to figuring out the songs are about on the first try does an old man's heart good. Please keep on Rocking Out! Y'all are Great.
Lex got it!!! It is from the soldiers perspective he is calling himself a servant coward blind man for the way he is being used. To get a true sense of Metallicas energy live you need to watch Creeping Death live in Moscow 91. Over half a million people at the show closest you can come without seeing them live
This song has one of my favorite Metallica riffs. The end of the intro riff that plays again several times in a row at the end is awesome. As for the meaning, I never took this as anti-soldier but more about how politicians use the military sort of like brain washing them, sending them to fight, then casting them aside. The coward lyric isn’t them calling soldiers cowards but a representation of how people would treat someone who didn’t want to fight. It’s the third person like “you don’t want to fight, you coward”.
James Hetfield said he was honored to have the military use their music for psychological torture prisoners of war
I think Het's perspective has also changed somewhat since this was written. Not just on this, but on a lot of things. ...And Justice was very anti US government. So much so that Don't Tread On Me followed it up as if to say "hey, but we love our country". I think this song is pretty explicitly anti-military. He's probably much less anti-military now.
We "United States Marines" that served with me in the early 90s love METALLICA! Saw them live in Rota, Spain. Metallica performed Free to Allied Military.
Creeping Death (live from Moscow 1991) Lex will flip her shit seeing this crowd lol. Master of Puppets, Seek and Destroy, Fade to Black, Blackened, ...And Justice for All. Just put remastered at the end of any of those, all of them have very good remasters!
Brad and Lex, you guys are in a special position to parlay your RUclips channel into access. The guys on Lost in Vegas have established a path to actually meet rock stars and see concerts. Good luck, I enjoy your channel.
Its Metallica, turn it up🗣️🎙️🔥🔥
This song was actually written by James, and was actually originally wrote towards football. Being a diehard Raiders fan, he heard the announcer refer to players as disposable heroes. Because back then they used to just inject them with pain killers and put them back in the games, when they'd get injured. Once their bodies can't let them play anymore they're just dropped from football, and the NFL wouldn't help them with their crippling injuries in retirement. Only to be replaced by the next up and coming star, just for the cycle to repeat over and over. Crazily enough it had strong meaning for anti war as well and was written in that direction as well. It's crazy where so many of James lyrical inspirations came from.
Another nice reaction.
Keep in mind when this song was written the previous war that America had been in was the Vietnam war and that war had a draft.
Don't take for granted that the militaries actions are being executed to protect your freedoms. Sometimes that's just a slogan to get the public on board.
I've seen them 2x in concert ... you guys are great... and Lexi you'd been head banging with the rest of us watching these guys live.....
She is just a Metal Head inside ready to come out. That is awesome, so glad to see you're enjoying this music. Hope you check out Iron Maiden next. You will be an instant fan. I recommend Hallowed Be Thy Name lyric version to start your Maiden journey. Hope you check them out.
This song is like a blizzard of sound. It hits from the start and never lets up. Metallica’s best IMO.
Lex...You MUST,MUST,MUST react to Iron Maiden-Hallowed be thy name. You need to feel the amazing guitar melodies in your bones!
When I served in the Army during the late 80s-early 90s I never took this song as an insult against the soldier. It felt like the contempt from politicians & the elite. When it really come down to a fight, we don't fight for the politicians, the elite, or the ideals we swear our loyalty to. We fight because we love our brothers & sisters fighting next to us.
It's all from the soldier's perspective. The first verse and the choruses are what his commander is commanding him to do, the rest of the song is from the soldier's internal monologue.
Cold War era. No one more for peace than a soldier. I was in the service when this came out. We loved it. We were trained to kill. Like our Drill Sergeants said: There is killer in each of you and our job is to bring it out.😍💃💃💃😍
No one wins a war by dying for their country but by making the enemy die for his.
Seen Metallica 3 times live just awesome
The way I hear the lyrics, it's not about dissing soldiers, it's about blindly following an order that will most CERTAINLY get you killed.
A coward for not standing up to the stupid order given, a servant to the commanding officers, a blind man for just blindly heading off to your death.
Great vid. Just found you guys. Liked and sub'd for more!
Another awesome reaction, someone needs to send Lex a Metal T-shirt then her transformation will be complete lol🤘🤘🤘
The Soviets used to shoot their own troops who retreated from the front line; they had machine guns pointed at their own troops from the rear instead of the enemy. Watch the movie Enemy at the Gates; they depict this well in the beginning. “Back to the front! Or you will die!”
Metallica - Dyers Eve
Edit: If you want to keep with the war theme then I would recommend ‘For Whom The Bell Tolls’.
I agree with you Lex, you absolutely DO need to go to a live concert ASAP!!! I have been attending them since my very first one in 1980 when I was only 9 years old (my step-brother, 6 years older than me took me along with our parents' permission) and that was Van Halen's first big headlining tour. My first Metallica show was "And Justice For All" in '89, the year I graduated high school! Most recently I saw them in Charlotte, NC in October 2018...nothing in the world like a live concert, in my opinion - especially Metallica. Peace & Love, Y'all :-)
They have the best live shows on RUclips, and they sound great!
What really got me into Rock/Metal was the guitars. A great riff or solo is just pure eargasm! I feel you girl! 🎸 🤘
I can definitely see lex starting a mosh pit at a metal concert.
I am a metal musician (Drummer, Vocalist) and combat veteran who served 16 years with combat tours in Bosnia, Somalia, Iraq then i was severely wounded in combat in Afghanistan which changed and kind of ruined my life with that being said there is no offense to this sing its written from the civilian and generals point of view who see numbers or comodities instead of people. They play the acceptable losses game to accomplish a mission and in some Colonels and generals cases for their own glory. Then a brief glimpse into the soldiers mind after they (we) become "immune" to what we see and do. Well we only feel immune to it until the reality hits later hence PTSD. James Hetfield (guitarist, lead vocalist, song writer) is a patriotic person and supports our military 1 million %. Yes sometimes the missions we go on we wonder if we matter at all. Anyway just letting you know the opinion of a nobody guy who served. You two are awesome fun to watch, Lex you are metal, lol.
Another great reaction! Need to check out "Fade to Black!"
she got it right. from the soldiers perspective, i bought this album when i finished basic and it first came out. very motivational song, when Metallica was great. still my fav album.
Keep in mind that in the serious end of metal like this, a lot of things, like a ton, are written with a huge amount of sarcasm and cynicism. I always took this as from the perspective of someone feeling disposable, with the chorus being how thier orders often sound to them.
So since I was retired from the military, I quickly realized how we are Disposable Hero’s.. We are hero’s when it fits an agenda, but disposable after they have used us well…
Gotta react to stuff of theirs off of their Ride The Lightning album, specifically their song Fade To Black!!! It's amazing.
I think someone became a metallica fan... It's great to see your enthusiastic reactions to this legendary band lex
Check out “The Four Horsemen” The guitar switch ups will blow Lex’s mind.
yea would be nice to see something different even if it's still Metallica, there's like a hundred reaction channels now reacting to same dozen or so songs
I was in the military for seven years (navy). Every branch had a lot of Metallica fans. I think those of us smart enough to catch the “get down” we knew what we signed up for. And we knew the different perspectives of it. Now I’m a CO at San Quentin. Y’all should check out the Metallica St. Anger video filmed at the Q.
Think Orion would be a great choice
Oh yeah! About to shut down and sleep. Checked my notifications and now its on!!!! Cant wait to see this 😁😁
nice guys, now you HAVE TO listen to the other great metal band ever, do Hallowed be thy name from Iron maiden live 82'
Hey yall, I served in the U.S.ARMY but I discovered Metallica from this album back in 9th grade and ended seeing
Metallica in concert Live ! 8 times !
I hope we can all witness the phenomenon of live music again!
You should try” the unforgiven “with lyrics.
At some of their concerts, they'd combine a whole slew of riffs from multiple songs, from multiple albums, into one 7 to 10 minute arrangement and James would call it a rhythm guitar solo, hehe, fantastic. When this song was written America was still only about 15 years out of the Vietnam War (out of the bulk of the actual fighting), where the average age of the U.S. soldier was 19...so in a way, it's saying that here you go Death (whether physical or mental/emotional), we used him up for 2 years and now he's yours. It was the first U.S. war with embedded video footage by the media, daily death tolls, etc., and it really impacted the U.S. consciousness in a way that previous wars didn't...so it's no surprise that our art would reflect it for years to come. Yes -- there's a reason besides lucky geography why the USA has never been invaded by a foreign force -- the all-volunteer military we have, and the honor & sacrifice of all who serve in uniform.
Lex... I was 13 when this came out...I get your energy..and I appreciate your energy. Those of us around that time had a lot of pent up energy that Master Of Puppets helped us release. Thank you to all the Veterans... love you all. thank you for your service.
Extreme emotion only can be describe by high brutal energy. Like "One". You scream inside desperately as loud as you can but no one can hear you.
I’m fortunate enough to be from a city that was a HUGE Rock town. We were known throughout the industry as a great audience so EVERYBODY came here! San Antonio TEXAS. To Some bands, we were their favorite city. If you could put out onstage we rewarded you. Had to be at a certain level because we had seen all the best.
It's not a jab at the soldiers, it's aa savage critique of the way we treat soldiers.
James has the utmost respect for those who have served/serve.
I was in the US Army Infantry for 20 years. We love Metallica, we understand that we are in a sense "disposable" for the greater good. I embraced the lyrics of this song when I served. Weird huh? A lot of guys listen to some heavy stuff to get their mind right before we went outside the wire. When you face the enemies of your nation in combat it gets real. Fast.
Metallica is in my top 10 live acts... Lex, you would definitely love a metal concert... I could totally see you in a pit, stage diving, and crowd surfing.
One of my favorites by Metallica. Saw them live in 1998, most incredible concert I've ever seen.
This at things not just from the perspective of a soldier, but one from a military family, growing up only knowing life as a soldier, raised to be a soldier.
Take her to a concert!!! Expect two things high energy and loudness. You are going to feel every kick drum in your chest. I might even suggest taking ear plugs if you are concerned with hearing loss. I've seen Metallica 3 times. I thrashed for 4 hrs straight. After effects were my teeth felt loose, hearing was muffled for the rest of the night, and I couldn't turn my head to either side for a few days. Man that was awesome!!!
The theme of Master of Puppets was control, manipulation, power. This song is sung from the perspective of those who control the "pawns". The voice is the one who gives soldiers their orders: "Back to the front, you servant, you coward, you blind man"
this is such an honest genuine reaction and breakdown of a song. yall are inspiring.
The instruments are the ENERGY that runs through your body at a live show Lex you are ready for a live show, your ENERGY will triple🤘🤘🤘
