    Good video, but 2 counter-points:
    1) The V5 already knew the danger the ants pose if they are not exterminated. If the invasion failed and the Rose had no poison, they'd likely immediately act to mobilize all the forces of humanity. Meruem wouldn't be able to take anyone by surprise.
    2) The Rose may not have had poison, but it was still devastating enough to blow ( weaker version ) Meruem to bits and nearly kill him for good, and it was described as a "compact and low-budget" device. Besides the fact that humanity may have hundreds or more of those bombs in stock, they could easily have higher yield weapons too, maybe even specially designed large-scale weapons to take out the ants. Meruem MIGHT be able to evade any future attack by himself, but he cannot have his army escape those. He'd be by himself in a desolate post-apocalyptic world by the end, if he wasn't gonna be taken out by poison from other devices.

I'm curious about wether or not the human traits they gained from eating humans (nen being the big one) would make them better, or worse equipped to survive the dark continent.
Since chimera ants take on qualities of what they eat, there wouldn't be any ants like the ones we've seen on the dark continent, so they'd be alien even in their "natural" environment, would they thrive? Or be more vulnerable due to their human qualities? We haven't actually seen what the place is like, but it seems actively hostile to humans, would their newly developed human qualities really help so much? Could it perhaps make them vulnerable in other ways?
Meruem was vulnerable to the poor man's rose, if humanity brought all it's force to bear on those voyages to the dark continent, then wouldn't that imply that those aren't powerful enough to defeat the threats found there?
As another example, the immortality disease and the Ai both target humans, do human qualities make the ants vulnerable to those too? Or are they still not technically humans, and resultantly immune?
I'm not interested in proposing answers to these questions, I'd just kinda like to see it, it's fascinating from an ecology standpoint.

    2) While people like the Zoldyck family aren't heroes, they do need humanity to survive for their business to thrive. And they're aware of this. Similarly, the battleclown would probably not be happy with the human preserve and realize that if he wants to continue having fun, meruem needs to be taken down.

It is unknown how limited It abilities are, but we could guess they would try to capitalize this power at some stage.
And while your hypotethical scenario stated that the nuke did not have poison in it, on a later stage humans would go full gardening carpetbomb the area, planting plenty of roses...
And even before this I am sure there is some protocol with the Hunter Association, because while we know the ants are a big threat, it was not unknown.
First we had Kite, whos job was to extreminate the ants (or keep them in controll? cant recall his original job)
The intel was given that there is an Ant Queen present and the threat was known that a high level hunter was killed.
Thats why they sent Netero and 5 people altogether.
And we know theres been numerous lookout hunters around the area because their job was to isolate the area completely.
Knwoing the Extermination Team failed would definitely trigger some defcon protocol, possibly instantly carpetbombing the area, or calling all hunter + army to the area.
Look, they already had a "summon all hunters" to a mere chairman election vote, they could use the same for the hxh equivalent of a BusterCall...
While this is quite a world building plothole in HxH, but keeping nen as a "hidden world" troupe was one of the main thing.
On a world threat like that, the world could shift into a different direction:
    - reveal the existence of nen
-not just recruit and train nen users but straight give as basic education (nen-civil war is unlikely, but not impossible, but Im sure humanity would have a common enemy at this point)

While I loved the thought experiment, I feel like there was this underlying assumption that no organization or country anywhere would ever take pre-ememptive or coordinated action against the ants. We've seen in human history with world war 2 that once it becomes apparent someone is genuinely taking on a quest for world domination countries come together to resist it. I can't imagine this being less true in a world full of superhumans, let alone superhumans WITH nukes and government

As humans are the souls of the ants, and M is intelligent, the question of how he would modify his actions once he realizes it arises.
I think that his best option is to move on to the dark continent entirely, making the old world the site of his reserve. It is the logical next step in view of the above, when you consider he will also learn of the origins and biology of the original ants. Very likely he might see the Hunter world as a holy ground of sorts.

Small issue Liam... it's been demostrarted that nuclear bombs, more powerful than the miniature rose, exist in the world of HxH. The where several reasons why the miniature rose was chosen, one being that the V5 wanted to keep the ant affair secret and the other being the ease to tranport it as well as it's ridiculous effectiveness for it's size.
Say what you will about Merum, I don't think that he can take an H bomb to the face, much less his army, and the ants saga makes a point about proving that humans are worst than the ants.
So I can definitely see a scenario where the V5 nuke the ants together with whichever poor city or country they happen to be invading at the time. After all, what's merum gonna do about sonic jets dropping nuclear bombs on him?

I think it would be a dope “what if”, if they made a spin off where merium (the ant king) went to the dark continent and tried to take it over. With all that we know about it, how would merium handle those obstacles? We know he is powerful but how would that match up against the creature on the dark continent. How would he handle trying to get the rice or that rock that has energy in it. I think it would be dope to see.

The ending of the arc showed that the rapid evolution of the ants didn't matter, because humans had already evolved past them. As huge and powerful and scary as Meruem was, he was just an ant. Humans had developed technology to kill him decades ago and neither had realized it. If Meruem had somehow killed Netero without being killed by the Rose, humans would have just nuked him and he'd be dead.

I think you are missing a huge point.
Togashi made Meruem with the instrinsic value of rapid exponential growth, specifically his character development in becoming more and more human (Netero mentions this being the most dangerous aspect of the Ant King).
The more Meruem is exposed to human civilization the more empathy he would gain and probably still pursue world domination however most likely primarily seeking world peace through dismantling nation leaders and their armies/capabilities for war à la Injustice Superman.
Also depending on his somewhat infinite power scaling factor and how strong he becomes, I think he would be very susceptible to assasination letting his guard down in times of peace.
anyways excellent content as always keep up the good work (y)

I fear that Isaac Netero bombing and radiation poisoning the Ant King Meruem is equivalent to stating that the only way humanity could have conquered and occupied the Dark Continent permanently was by adopting the Ant King's methods. With a leader like Meruem gone, humanity now has no chance against the Dark Continent, and the only hope that remains is for a few survivors to emerge, perhaps as rare as one in every few lifetimes, like Don Freecss or Beyond.

  • @bankuei
    @bankuei Год назад +4

I think there's a lot of backup plans that would probably go in if the mission failed. As a number of people point out, nukes are likely to get everyone except Meruem (killing Komugi would probably set him off on a super rampage though). Without the army of ants, the logistics and situation changes to some level - it'd be less Meruem controlling continents as much as killing his way through lots of people.
Both Ging and Beyond might see fighting Mereum as a good test to see if they're ready to take on the outer continent, so I give it 50/50 whether they'd fight or let someone else handle Meruem. I'd assume they both would have some deep intel and make relatively informed decisions on that.
Nanika/Something's wishes would be an option of last resort, though I don't think the Zoldycks would make that wish as much as offer some nation the option to wish away Meruem at an astronomical price and a ton of stipulations on who makes the wish to try to reduce the odds the blowback comes back to them.
Which brings up the other issue; there's still the Five Threats (is Nanika one of them? Unconfirmed!), and the question of whether Mereum would come across them by accident and whether there'd be a conflict there as well. It's still completely unclear what all those things can really do, but given that despite all the resources available humanity is still like "they could destroy us any time and we're JUST LUCKY they're choosing not to" it has to at least rival Mereum if not surpass him. It wouldn't really be a "victory" for us as much as "small pockets of humans probably survive" but I don't think Mereum has an easy win here.

Great vid, but one hugely important factor that you left out is Komugi and Pouf. This scenario makes sense from a pure power perspective of meruem asserting dominance over the rest of the world, but as with most things in hxh pure power isnt everything.
Remember, up until the point of the poison killing the guards Pouf had effectively lost favor with Meruem by failing to reveal the existence of Komugi. Poufs betrayal wouldve most likely resulted in his death or his exile from the ranks of the ants, and Komugi as Meruems "queen" would essentially be the focus of any group trying to control Meruem or change his behaviors. Komugi is extremely frail and now Meruem lacks the protection of all three of his guards, leaving her insanely vulnerable.
If Pouf survived she would be his main target, would he team up with the hunters to dispose of her? Maybe the phantom troupe? Pariston sounds like he'd be all over this. As for the hunters, would they try and capture her with an ability like hide and seek? Control Komugi and you control the king, simple as that. Also how would Komugi feel about all of this? Would her opinion of Meruem change? I feel like there would be a ton of potential conflicts involved and wouldnt be as straightforward as "and then Meruem takes over the whole world the end", but thats the beauty of HxH: it never is that simple

The V5 only did the whole song and dance with Netero to make him take the fall because none of them wanted the bad PR that came with nuking East Gorteau. If they absolutely had to drop nukes on Meruem, they would, and I don't think Meruem is surviving the full might of 5 nations' militaries.
The truth is that Meruem literally never had a chance to begin with. Netero didn't bother with negotiation because he knew this. Meruem's best outcome if he survives the Rose with no poison is to fake his death and go off the grid. Preferably bringing Komugi with him.

Discounting any possible reaction from the V5 and Hunter Association immediately after Netero's defeat and letting Meruem go towards Meteor City and York New City...
Didn't the Chimera Ant Biological Understanding explicitly mentioned a new queen splintering off to create their own "king"? And with the growing population of Chimera anys and hybrid ants in the scenario posed, I would believe there would at least be 2 or 3 "king" that would possibly be born to clash with Meruem...as a possibility. The manga and anime already showed direct lineage Chimera ants that were not meant to be Kings wanting to create their own "kingdoms" because of their human characteristics.
Second, eventhough they were created Hybrid Chimera ants, would it automatically mean absolute loyalty to Meruem? I don't recall how much imprinting of control Pouf is able to do during the cocooning process to ensure ultimate loyalty to Meruem but maybe I forgot it. It has been quite a while. But Palm was able to plot against them right? Or was her programming incompletely and she 'hatched' prematurely?
Third, because they are hybrid and have retained their human personality like Palm, even if they do can't rebel against Meruem, there will surely be infighting within the "colony" to establish heirarchy and it will cause development of Nen abilities but also thin the "herd".
Lastly, in the event that the V5 Nations would crumble, the leaders would most likely have planned to "escape" to the Dark Continent as a last resort (maybe) if they could not stomach staying in the Known World. While at the same time, with no V5 to oppose, Kakin Empire could launch without permission, right?

Interesting hypothetical, but I think that the association would learn about the failed invasion way before total domination of the first continent. I also belive that, depending on who became chairman they would go through desperate measures to try to stop the king before he grew too much. Something like making nen public knowledge and accessible so by the time Meruem reaches other places he will have to deal with an insurmountable number of people who know nen, even if they are really bad at it. And I think it would be worth the potential chaos that that would cause in the world. Other possibility would be to make it requirement for the armies all around the world so trained soldiers have a fighting chance against the ants, but that would also mean that the privileges of the hunter association would be under risk because they heavily rely on the fact that nen is not something that the average Joe can use to function as a type of elite in the HxH world. But I don't think it would be that easy, Meruem would meet some resistance and the human world would go through desperate measures one way or another. Now, If that means that Meruem would fail, that's another story altogether, however there is a possibility that during that time another ant king appears, we should consider the idea of multiple Meruems fighting against themselves and against the humans for power.

    Mark netero's words
"Meruem.... Humanity ability for evil knows no limits"
He would get continually nuked and die on the several explotions or worse die with the whole continet of radiation potion.

If Chimera Ant Arc was ongoing today there would be people who would speculate that "The Palace Invasion Will Fail" just like how some One Piece fans speculated with Wano except it's actually more probable in HxH than in One Piece considering it's Togashi we're talking about and he does whatever the f he wants.

Sounds like Meruem would just become Ainz Ooal Gown at that point

HxH is one of the few anime's where I'd really want to see an A.U. if the villain won, I feel like if there was a spin-off in an A.U. where Mureum won that it could still be a compelling story, and furthermore watching the world be diplomatic with him would also be interesting

Meruem is literally an ant from the dark continent.
He’ll get squished before taking over a single piece of land.

The idea of Meruem playing Greed Island along with his royal guards is fcking gold, i can just imagine them either killing everyone just to get it done or having genuine fun with everyone.

I think that your thumbnail with Komugi would be the truest answer. His affinity to become more human didn't stem from him being poisoned and about to die, it came from her. If she's alive I'd wager that he'd continue to see what really matters in life and his humanity would ever deepen. Pouf would go insane because he only sees Meruem as world king, he doesn't care for human Meruem. I feel like he'd want a long life lived in obscurity with Komugi. He'd ask Pitou to use Dr Blythe to give him a human appearance and body so that he could live as human a life with Komugi all his days as well as be unrecognizable, and she'd oblige him because she cares about what Meruem wants. They'd probably take Pitou as a butler/still his servant but they'd move somewhere quiet and play gungi and raise a family all their days. I don't think world dominance would peak his interests when he has his beloved Komugi with him, personally.
