I got a Jaguar SS shortly after it was discontinued for $320 (originally $199). It is my favorite bass of all time. I sold my others (including a high-end Fender P-Bass) and use only this one now. I wish I had had it long ago.
I did replace the pickups, but it didn't really need them. I just wanted a little more power in the bridge pickup.

I've owned a silver metallic version of this bass for the past two years, and you're right, it's a really nice instrument. The construction quality was simply amazing at this price point. I think with a little effort someone could find a nice used one for around $200 these days.
FYI, the tuners on mine were never that great, so I put in a set of Taiwan-made Fenders ($36), which required a tiny bit of drilling for a few of the set screws. I also swapped out the bridge with a Hipshot KickAss ($55), which dropped in without any modifications. I can now be much more precise with tuning, intonation and string height.
Thank you for the heads up on those Duncan-designed pickups. I was considering a Nordstrand replacement for the P pickup, but after watching this I think that would also be a bit "too much" for this little bass. I'll try and find the Duncan-designed on eBay.

Ebay is where I got my jazz humbucker pickup used. Great deal. You may have to order springs and screws if the person reused them.

    Really good review.
I have one of these and a pj player mustang also.
I find the necks really similar but my jaguar is a whole pound heavier.
I put Dimarzio DP126 in both basses, prices for these basses seem to just keep going up here in the uk

i just scored a sunburst one of these at a pawn shop this week. i love this instrument, the Jag neck is so lovely to play. its a bummer the only squire Jag these days is a 32" with just one humbucker, but thankfully pawn shops still exist :D
As a dummer without a working pinkie on my fretting hand, I really cant fault this bass. It's everything I could have asked for.

I have 2 of these, 2011 and 2012, both candy apple red. I put CTS pots with an orange drop, new Switchcraft jack, full shielding, and American Jazz bass knobs on the 2011, nice upgrade there. I have to do the 2012 one soon. Just picked it up a couple months ago. These are awesome!!

@Drizzydid Bought one new in 2011, one used last year. They were made in Indonesia. Watch all the used places, you'll find one.

@@debhart4302 Thanks. Are you in the US? I saw two on US ebay but they don't ship to Canada. Canada ebay is a ghost town but maybe I'll get lucky on a facebook marketplace deal some day or something. Also how much did you have to pay for a used in 2023 vs brand new in 2011?

@@Drizzydid I'm in the US. New in 2011 $180.00. Used in 2023 $299.99 filthy and needed a new jack.

@@debhart4302 Wow. Amazing how a used filthy cost that much more than a brand new. Geez discontinuing something really adds value I guess. Thanks.

I picked one up at auction for $60 with a new set of flat wounds. and liked the feel so much I went ahead and put a real Fender
P-Bass pup in the neck leaving the bridge one of weak so I put a used jazz humbucking pup there. Figured since I’m keeping her , I’d change out the alpha pots for CTS ones and she sings for sure now. The neck is perfect for a guitar player who sometimes doubles on bass. Bonus. She fits into my Jaguar hard shell guitar case perfectly if I bring her out.

Yeah the Fender pickup is a great choice for upgrades. I get used Fender Mexican pickups online dirt cheap and have used them on this and some Affinity basses as well.
