Yeah in many videos he does tricks with his back facing the flatrail really close to it gives me anxiety every time. One primo away from either breaking his spine on it or smacking the back of his skull into it
As a longtime Jonny Giger fan and longtime freestyle-only skater, this was so rad. (And a little enraging how quickly you pick up tricks that I still find difficult, like the rail-flip to rail.) Please by all means do another one of these in the future, Jonny, and show us your latest skills on the smaller board with blunted nose/tail and offset wheels.
back in middle school when all my friends were street skating. i was the only one who did freestyle. it was so unpopular back then.. i think it may be a little better these days but street skating will always be #1 it looks like. i never cared though. i thought freestyle skating looked way more fun and creative. and still think that.. also i had a blast doing it. don't be afraid to be different people
to me the only attractive part about freestyle is it being unpopular, but i just actually enjoy street skating more. imo freestyle skating is still percieved as "cool" generally and i just posted a basic rail stand heelflip out and that was one of the few times i've got any attention (not that i care, because if i did i would just stop skating at this point). my first and probably last "actual" freestyle trick just because it's just not that fun. i can't jump off something with it, i can't do it while rolling (it's 'theoretically' possible, i know:P), it just takes some set up i feel like. i gotta say tho, it feels good to street skate for some time and bust a rail -> heelflip out just us a surprise, works every time xd
Honestly tho Jonny you should give us a video series with just doing and learning crazy freestyle tricks. I'd love to see you come up with a full free style routine. 💙
I follow him because i love his style as is, if he wants to do a series with it i'm here to watch it but i'm not going to push him to skate a style he doesn't enjoy :)
When I got my freestyle skateboard from waltz I was just in awe in how beautiful it looked. They are so perfect for freestyle. I learned how to rail stand in a day.
I love how nothing is ever forced or fake with any of your content johnny , and just to see how much you love skateboarding and its community. Keep the OG stuff coming brother !!!!
Come check out the World Round-Up Online showdown contest! Starts July 11th online. But our real world contest should be back next year, we have run it for 10 years now :)
You’ve helped me with so many tricks in just two months, I’ve been skating for the years and I’ve learned more tricks watching your videos than anything else before , you truly are a godsend and you know damn well Rodney knows it , Thank you Johnny Giger
Very awesome to see a talented skater like yourself on a Freestyle board! The rail to rail was nice! Some more tricks to try: Pogo (no handed and regular), Flamingo, Coconut Wheelie, Railstand to casper, Casper to Railstand, Truckstand to rail, Varial Fingerflip, 360 fingerflip... :)
I'm an old bmxer and I love this man's skate vids. I loved Mullen before I got into bmx so it's awesome to see someone with similar style and especially the trick attempts.
I think the first professional level board I ever owned was a Per Welinder freestyle deck back in the day when the other Powell decks were the size of small boats. We've come a long way.
Never knew you can buy specific boards for freestyle skating. And long ago when I watched a Johnny Giger video. Well, I am glad that slides still work with the add ons underneath tail and nose, which can come in handy for Caspers. By the way, I use gloves for skating. You should do the same.
Oh Johnny it's so great to see somebody have honestly fun with their board I love your vids And that there is su much uploads recently thanks Bleib dabei
Its interesting to know you can still do nose and tail slides with skidplates. I'm bout to put some on my next street setup, bet it would make the board last way longer.
Awesome, Jonny! I watch all your videos and really love the content. I actually got inspired to pick up skateboarding again after many years, and bought this reissue of an old 80’s Mike V board. However, I strained my leg really bad just pushing, so I guess I’m done 😂 I’ll tell you, it sucks getting old... Your mind forgets, but the body remembers oh so well. I guess mid forties is too late if you haven’t skated in 25 years 🤣
Lol love watching these videos I learnt and learning o much it amazes me I went from my Skateboard to doing a manual on a penny board , I was amazed at myself and my friend was too at the fact that I could manual on my Skateboard and a tiny penny board tack för dina fantastiska videor Jonny Giger🙏🏾🤙🏾
Ive always wanted to pick up a freestyle board. Sick video, dude. That merlin twist was a trick I'd do in the Tony Hawk games thinking it wasn't something anyone would ever be able to do.
Ahha! ... I see that I rubbed off on you. 🤣 Look at you ... Freestyler. Welcome to the '70s ... er' ... 80's .. giving props to Mullen who perfected what we started "...🛹" Kendall
Love the videos man! I'm not a skater but can certainly appreciate some sweet tricks, and you post a lot of them! I was wondering about a possible new trick. Street style utilizes the pogo trick here and there. I've seen you primo slide...has anyone ever done a pogo slide?
Wow this video was full of great trucks! Your ability to learn is amazing!!! You've got an extraordinary, powerfulmind man. Freestyle is just another language to learn and your english is better than many Americans too haha
Hey Johnny. Thank you so much to inspire me to skateboard again after 19 years of not skateboarding (gonna be 34 this year) Even got some kickflips, heelflips, varial kick/heelflips, switch stuff going. So much fun. However, i'm really wondering if i can do something about constantly getting hurt - i mean you don't use any protection. Since i already broke my wrist 2 years ago and had some unpleasent expierence with falling onto my wrists i use wrist protectors now. Any tips on how to learn how to fall? Are there guides for that or is it pure expierence? Regards and the absolute best wishes of health and career from Germany.
One major thing you can do to avoid injury, or minimize risk of injury is to build strength throughout your body. Get a workout program that focuses on strengthening the keys muscles used in the things you are doing. It's a little known fact that nearly all of the aches and pains people experience are due to weakness and not mechanical malfunction. Lower back, wrists, ankles, hips, knees, etc. can all be made pain free by proper and consistent strength training. Pain is your bodies way of telling you that you are weak in that area. Learn the right exercises to do to strengthen that muscle group, and you'll be surprised at how much easier things become and better you'll feel.
I Love freestyle Skateboarding. Before the Operation at my knee but especially after. So normally i use an 8.0 Deck. Is it so much easier to learn freestyle with an Special Board? Truckstand, Fingerflips and so on works with the normal one. But Combos are so hard for me
Ah yes the classic nose and tail pads. I had a freestyle board years back, sort of like this but more concave and less nose curve. Both ends were a little flatter. idk how I feel, Rodney and Daewon just skated with a street board eventually so are these really necessary, idk
I'm not sure but that was just the natural evolution of the skateboard shape, I am assuming the very specific freestyle market of boards came out later. Back when Rodney was young they weren't freestyle boards, that's just how skateboards were shaped and the shape changed over the years to fit the progression of skateboarding and now they design boards to fit a specific style.
There is always something special when Jonny posts a new video
AHHHH! You crushed it duuuuuude!!!!
Now get Jason Park on one of these so they can play freestyle skate xD
Thank you for sending him this board then we can have fun watching him do tricks ! Your the man Mike !
Why didn’t he pin your comment or heart it lol
Hes so good he can practice right next to the bowl without fear of falling inside lol
Yeah in many videos he does tricks with his back facing the flatrail really close to it gives me anxiety every time. One primo away from either breaking his spine on it or smacking the back of his skull into it
I can think of many reasons why this guy is a nuts skater but that isn’t one of them. Definitely not close enough to actually worry about that.
Please tell me cruzschrube translates to "shity screw" or something like that
@@mtnbikeman85 chrüz stands for "cross" schrube for "screw"

Still find it odd there are 7 people that disliked this upload. Giger is like the nicest and he's good. Potators gonna potate.
Freestyle haters :)
I am always afraid he is gonna fall backwards and hit the rail with his head
Good content jonny
me too 😂

Freestyler is cooler.
Being different is always cooler.
Street was freestyle while actually getting some where for me 🤣

Fantastic idea! This video was so fun to watch, he was killing it, the smiles alone were a giveaway

Johnny learns to freestyle series sounds amazing
he might as well. like a legit freestyle series and run, not a rodney series
Awesome to see you on a street board J! Can’t believe you haven’t tried it till now!
Now that's a name and picture I didn't expect to see in the comments, hello! How small our large world can be.
I thought the same thing. I didn't expect to see cuckoo here. The skate and synth nerd world do overlap of course.
Love your jams!
You ever contribute music to this channel?
When I got my freestyle skateboard from waltz I was just in awe in how beautiful it looked. They are so perfect for freestyle. I learned how to rail stand in a day.
I'd love to see a rematch anything counts game of skate with you and Andy Anderson

Soooo good! Continue to bring freestyle back from the dead!

Awesome vid, Jonny! Also: Conratulations on securing the part as young Einstein in that new series, brilliant acting!
nice stuff, thanks for promoting freestyle skateboarding!
I feel like if I add those wheels to my street board it would be like the perfect hybrid setup for versatility.
This was fun to watch. Awesome seeing you tricking with a different board too.
Beautiful day and he looks so happy 😀 fantastic slo mo also

I ordered the exact same board from Waltz, I’m having so much fun dancing with it 🛹

Fantastic video as always Jonny! :) well done! :)
This video was LONG overdue. Glad to see you finally try out a freestyle board!
loved this one! you should learn the rolling rail stalls that those freestylers do. that's one of the reasons why the wheels stick out past the axels
Mate, UR my favourite skater! Your line is insane!
You look right at home on that thing Jonny! Awesome graphics too! 👁🤚
Your videos are always 10/10

5:39 ollie airwalk to fingerflip to manual!!! WHO DOES THAT? Apparently Jonny can~
its so cool to see someone skateing a freestyle board street
Casper 360 Flip to Casper would be sick on this Board. (Start with Casper, scoop the 360 Flip an land back in Casper Position)
I love the way you put your videos together. Keep up the great work 🧡
I comment to help statistics
Du bist der beste Jonny! Vielen dank aus Schottland.
This was more entertaining than expected.
I’ve thought for a while that force should work you up a set of freestyle wheels for all the rail tricks you do.
This made me cry... so happy. Jonny goes freestyle?!? In my happy place.

Are some of these tricks impossible on a regular skateboard? I'm a beginner so I'm curious
now all revive has to do is make a jonny giger model freestyle board !
Yes! Or Waltz.
This needs a part 2
Jonny Boyyyyy takin me back to 1988 with this one 🤘😂

very cool vid to see, he's looking to have so much fun too
YAY, is the first thing i said when i saw you r new video. i love freestyle skateboarding.
you should make more freestyle videos.
When you make the rail-to rail flips on the board the key is to jump as low as possible :) (and keep shoulders over the wheel)
Three weekends in a row, I really love the consistancy!

Dude we all appreciate the adooooshional one. If it ain’t perfect... it ain’t Giger.

When you 'accidentally' land crossfoot, it's the perfect opportunity to do a heelflip varial like I saw in one of your other videos.

That merlin flip though...🤯
I've never seen anything but Philips screws on a skateboard here in the Netherlands. But the last time I bought a board was about 10 years ago.
