- When I say "Long" I really mean "Fancy-ish, somewhat obscure word that considerably more people won't have heard of, than will have," but you can see how just saying "long" is a decent bit shorter.
And there's a slight contradiction of my logic intentionally left in the video, so for the self-righteous guy who's going to come to this video, spot it and try to sound like some Sherlock Holmes-esque smartarse by pointing it out and making a big deal out of it, try not to comment about it lol. It was left in for comedy's sake, please relax. Put down the knife and step away from the keyboard.

When my dad hears a fancy word in a conversation, he likes to ask the person what it means . It’s really embarrasing for the other person if they fail to explain the meaning of the word.
What's even more frustrating is when the person refuses to explain their complicated word, and tells you to look it up. Ok, you used the word, the onus is on you to say what it means.
when people don’t know what a word means that is say and they ask, it’s kinda hard because if you add “oh it just means___” then they’d say “well why didn’t you say that?”

Cyno [referring to dog I believe) followed by Phobia (Meaning to fear [phobos being fear]. However when people make up their own word at the beggining using a mash of latin, greek and other languages to make a word that would translate to something like (Long wide spacious lengthy fish) in a variety of languages, and then call it longfish seems a bit, well stupid to me.
I believe if my sources are correct that is very similar to what has happened with the word you used.
honestly none of the words mentioned or examples were blatant abuses of vocabulary, the real problem is that too many people only know the basics of language and have not learned enough to actually understand the massive plethora (large amount) of words that are out there. English is a beautiful language we should bother to learn it, and honestly if future teachers could not understand that example of readings then they are not qualified to teach children; as you know they are educators! they should be, oh I don't know educated!

Randy Orton I priortize the concept of a largely expanded vocabulary to allow the other humans i am conversing information of a specified topic to expand their knowledge of me knowing a vast amount of words.

I'm _so_ glad I've been led to this video. This is one of my biggest pet peeves. It's one of the least effective ways of communication, as it prioritizes the speaker's own perceived intelligence over being sure that the message they're getting across is clear. It sabotages the conversation, because anyone who knows what those words mean likely won't take the speaker seriously, since they sound, frankly, like a complete tool, and anyone who doesn't know what they mean has no idea what the speaker is trying to say. On top of that, even though the speaker may be using synonyms for their original message, it still changes it ever so slightly, because different words can have different connotations! If something is described to you as "humongous", you'll likely imagine it to be much larger than if it had simply been described as "big".
Plus you did a great job of making it an entertaining video to watch. If I had made a video on this topic, it would likely just be half an hour of me going on about how it sounds completely ridiculous when people talk like that. Nobody on Animal Jam knows that you mean your cat's ears when you say your cat "perked it's zeniths", and none of the official definitions for zenith that I've seen are even remotely related to cats so I don't even know how that became the popular phrasing of it. Just say ears, dude. It's not that hard.

It's not even the usage of big or complicated words, like you said! Sometimes a more obscure word might even be better, due to the subtle connotations of different words! But it's pretty easy to tell the difference between someone who just has a large vocabulary and thinks that a word like "reprehensible" fits better with their message and someone who thinks that referring to eyes as "orbs" makes them smarter.

I know it's a million years later but I'm gonna say something controversial.. Some people are actually used to these words because they're bookish. "Tacit" for example is neither a big word nor particularly rare. My parents were working class, both from families that knew hardship and would know what tacit meant. I went to uni but they didn't teach vocabulary, my large vocabulary comes from having spent a childhood reading books. I kinda think that while your point is true, it's also something people should work on. Words aren't just words, they're thoughts, the more complex your vocabulary, the more complex your thoughts can be. There's a whole scientific area of research given to understanding how language effects perception. Even down to having more words for colours leading to having a greater colour recognition. Literally seeing the world differently due to language. So like, yeah, clarity is important but words are building blocks of meaning, collect them.
I quite agree with what you state, however, its important to take into consideration the amount of Native English speakers around the globe vs non-native english speakers who are struggling to learn english, and in a simple conversation can´t decide if its better to use however, henceforth, there after, or thus, We will develop our language not only based on words or sounds that we can pronounce or sing, more focusing on the message that we want to deliver instead, until we get to the final stage of any language, in Ten thousand years no one will speak english, nor spanish or even chinese.

Here in the Netherlands we're pretty good at that as well, as a one-way road sign is "eenrichtingsverkeersbord"! I also like "arbeidsongeschiktheidsverzekeringsmaatschappij", which is an insurance company for incapacitated workers. Even though the word is really long, it's not hard to read, pronounce or understand for Dutch speakers, as, like in German, it consist of separate words glued together.

Sometimes, the long word is the proper word. The nice thing about having a million words in our language is that you can be very precise. My parents had great vocabularies and they never talked down to me, and I am better for it
I only use it depending on the situation, but I never try to confuse the other person, I feel like some intellectuals purposely try to use hard language to sound profound b/c the average person can't understand them, while in reality you can have intellectual conversations while only using tough words that are relevant to the topic, and still have most ppl understand fine based off context clues

It's important to actually know the words and their use instead of just replacing them with synonyms. Sometimes, a synonym may hold a slightly different meaning. To be fair, the only word I didn't know prior to posing was cinematheque. I'm still not sure if it's an apt usage of the term.

That is saying that ”century” owns something, I believe you meant ”centuries”. Fourth, why is there a question mark after ”wtf, this is math class”. That would imply that the teacher didn't know it was math class, but that doesn't make sense considering that they are reading your essay. These are 5th grade level mistakes, so I decided to question your age.
