- Gilbert the alien on 1980s kids' TV show Get Fresh with co-stars Charlotte Hindle, Gaz Top, Gaz Top's Ludicrous Mullet and a plastic fish.
Fun fact: Gilbert was voiced by Phil Cornwell from Stella Street.
Apologies for the quality of the video...
I was a presenters on Get Fresh - I did all the nature stuff and was just a teenager at the time. Gilbert was a totally live and spontaneous vocal performance from Phil Cornwell complimented by some brilliant puppeteering from John Eccleston who had no idea what to expect from one second to the next. I've just been watching back my own home video of the Get Fresh days and wondered if anyone remembered him. Nice to see it's not totally forgotten cos it was bloody funny.
Omg that's so brilliant..!!
In watching 2022. Loved Gilbert's snotty nose. And Nobby the sheep
No way! I'm getting a tattoo of him soon. Lol
He's my avatar on Facebrick, there's never been anything funnier, other then hyperbole.
Pure genius.
Phil Cornwell.... absolute genius.
Gilbert , Gazs’ ridiculous Mullett & Michaela made Saturday morning worthwhile 😁👍🐢
Gilbert rocks & the 'Gilbert's Fridge' series needs either a re-run on the box or at the very least putting onto DVD so we can all have a laugh. Phil Cornwell - absolute genius..
remember guys this is phil cornwell the guy who voiced murdoc niccals
I LOVED Green Gilbert. How did anyone concentrate on what they were doing with him rambling on in the background? Brilliant. I was telling my son about him this morning. Never knew it was Phil Cornwell though.
OMG!!! I cant believe how funny GILBERT was.. He clearly isnt working from a script.. and even in the first 20 seconds complains that they make u watch adverts for shit u dont want to buy.. I wish i was old enough back then to realise how amazingly funny he was.. His humor was seriously directed at the adults.. because i remember just thinking he was a CRAZY alien.. i never even listened to what he was talking about .. i think i was.. 12 or 13 when it was on.. WHERE HAS ALL THE SATURDAY TV GONE!!!???? Replaced with FUCKING COOKERY PROGRAMS!!! WTF???????
Innit. Glad I got the golden age of wierd kids tv! 60,s n 70,s madness plus this as an adult hehe
@@fuzzilu even tho i was born in 76.. i didnt really know about TV until i was about 4 or 5.. so defo the 80s.. BUT.. back in the day.. it wasnt a FAST SYSTEM!! We were STILL getting late 60's to late 70's TV shows from America.. shows like BANANA SPLITS!!! LA LA LA... LA LA LA LA.. LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA... remember those?? one potato two potato three potato four... hahah.. the theme tune was amazing.. still gives me goose bumps NOW when i watch it on youtube.. it really was a MAGICAL TIME.. sometime i fear is now permanently lost TO time.. you are a lucky person, as am i.. to experience these utterly life long memory giving shows.. i couldnt name the last 3 shows i watched.. but ill always be able to sing the theme song to sesame street :) tnx for the reply.. loved thinking about it all again!! peace..
Yeah yr comment is still valid, coz there're still just cookery things on TV sat morning. Poor kids. No Tizwas etc
fantastic!!! bring back Gilbert!!!!
This sounds silly now but I remember watching gilbert as a kid and I had nightmares for years 🤣
Hi I actually met Gilbert when he landed in Bristol and managed to get his autograph on a Rizla..Bring him Back........
Gilbert was amazing ... I wanted him to replace the TV-AM crew and have him read out the news.
Bit late to the party here, but now TV-AM's back, we can want him to replace them all over again.
Stuff Richard Madeley, just get Gilbert back. He'll soon knock 'em into shape.
@@slacknhash never too late to the 80s nostalgia party..
how far to Hitchen? It's Hitchen we're missing!
Our catchphrase at work lol
every time i look at my missus i think of gilbert. She shares his amazing good looks.
oh
NOOoooo! Lol!!!!
You need to get to Rotherham then, you will be in heaven
@@jonathanteasdale4412 😅
Explain the PG joke? If you didn't get it the first time round I'm not going to explain it! Brilliant. I appreciate Gilbert's humour more now as an adult. Good old Phil Cornwell - genius.
Gilbert, Zig & Zag & Dustin were all great watching...
the more off the cuff it was, the greater the potential for genius to flourish... or trainwreck
- It's PG so get your parents' permission.
- Yeah, take a load of tea bags with you!
I too have been affected by gilbert, class stuff! i do have the whole series of gilberts fridge, maybe i should post sum but not got around to see how to do it yet! But if ya want a copy on dvd then just get in touch ok, Dean
Ooh wanty!
Watch this live at Edinburgh Castle in the 80s, and Mel & Kim where the live act, the 80s what a decade.
Anyone remember "Swing that bucket baby... Barry! It's not the time for singing, oh!" When he was halfway up a ladder.
Gaz that mullet good god 😂
brilliant
It was always fun to watch Gilbert but like others have said a lot of it was wasted on us young folk. Better to watch now just for Gilbert
Note that we're in the Millennium Dustbin all the time in these clips - so these are probably from the pre-recorded Sunday morning editions, made by Border Television.
Because my original video had a copy of a documentary about Island records which was shown on Channel 4 (That's Bono's bum at Red Rocks) and I couldn't cut it fast enough without losing the start of the show. And in those days there was no such thing as CITV, just Saturday morning ITV (STV, Southern TV as was)
yes i remember this , childhood memories
"They've got guns! THEY'VE GOT GUNS!!!!!" Classic
Absolutley fucking hilarious. And I was about ten when this aired on tv. Brilliant.
Ian the fish went on to great things at the BBC!
Gilbert the Alien - Get Fresh 1050am 12.10.23 gaz top!!?
@pipecleanergirl23 It IS Murdoc! It's Phil Cornwell, his voice!
Phill Cornwell just got done puppeting a goofy green guy about 4 decades after this
Fr
"~Don't waste it, General....they've got guns....THEY'VE GOT GUNS!!!"
Fantastic loved him xx
brillaint program. The space ship landing on towns around britan. I remeber it came close to me, landed in colchester. My parents would not take me. Why not do programs like this again. ah, the memorys.
if you aint got it first time luv I'm not going to explain it to you...legend!
I too would love to know what happened to Charlotte Hindle. She always seemed such a good tv presenter, very unpatronising! I remember her Mum being "killed off" in Corrie a few years before this was shown.
@Aaronation1984 he became Murdoc Niccals from Gorillaz.
We are not allowed to quote MP! Haha! It's Monty Pythons election special reference. Amazingly high-brow for a kids show. I miss Gilbert still. It's like an audition for Stella Street! Genius!
The blue sofa was on the location set, i.e actually inside the "ship" exterior used on Saturdays. The Border set is the larger one in the clip at the end and the one leading into black beauty.
XDDD The man who voices Gorillaz's Murdoc Niccals XDD
I am looking for get fresh filmed in whitehaven which was july 1986.
The haircuts are amazing
Apologise all you like for the quality, but when you're trying to use the one E240 TDK tape (still got it) you own to record all your favourite bits on TV when you're about 15 (so that would be 1987 or so), quality isn't really the main thing on your mind. I grabbed as many things as possible (which is why there's a second or so of a documentary on 30 years of Island records at the start, with Bono wiggling his bum at Red Rocks) and stuck what I found, many years later, on a torrent site. Voila!
Much appreciated
i am pretty sure he(phil cornwell) was out of it alot of the time.....wish I hadn't chucked out my recordings of Gilbert. His interview with Voice of the Beehive was classic
I used to have nightmare's with Gilbert in them!
Me too 😂 Had nightmares for years as a kid haha
