Tortas ahogadas - means drowned tortas. It originates from Guadalajara, Jalisco. Carne en su jugo is meat in its juice. 😋 Thanks for your review. My family is from Jalisco... gotta go try!
The best Mexican restaurant in Torrance California is called la capilla. On Torrance Blvd and Carrillo. And the best taco truck it's in Gardena California called tacos El Antojito on Figueroa and 168th st. They have everything, and seafood etc....
Honestly, putting aside my white man.... conservative Catholic upbringing... Mexican food is my absolute favorite food.... My point.... political views should never interfere with great food..... people assume I want "white" London broil....etc etc.. No I prefer Mexican food first choice
My mom is from Cocula Jalisco, it’s a little city that’s right next to Guadalajara. She would make Carne En Su Jugo all the time when I was kid. One of my favorite dishes of all time.
Are these videos as much fun to make as they are to watch? I’m really liking these Mexican food videos lately. Maybe because I’m Mexican and can relate lol
I order from this restaurant every other weekend and it always hits the spot. I recommend the carne en su jugo and lonche de lomo. The service is always on point as well.
I can walk there from my house... Although I wouldn't recommend it... I've seen the place when driving by but haven't stopped in yet.... We've got a lot of good Mexican Food spots in the area...
What a fabulous tradition of generations of recipes! Everything looks so wonderful and cooked with love. I really appreciate and admire the family owned restaurants that have been passed down from generations, keeping it in the family means that the love will ways remain there. Awesome videos Steve, keep up the great work.
My hubby is from GDL and we'll definitely give this place a try! I do hope you took all that food home to eat later rather than tossing into the basura. Barbacoa is actually the style of meat not indicative of a crispy taco as "dorado" means crispy. Thanks so much for the review!
@@phug0id Yes and no...thing is, in Guadalajara you have Birria, and Barbacoa which are pretty much the same, beef stew with some spices and red chiles, but anywhere else is a cooking style, i know, but thats how it is, just like in Mexico City a Quesadilla doesnt have any chesee...quesadilla without queso...so Barbacoa tacos are basically birria tacos but made crunchy, sort of fried on its own fat.

Traditional birria is indeed made with goat but many restaurants and birria trucks do use beef instead because goat tends to have a gamey flavor profile.
You can make Birria with goat or beef and barbacoa with lamb, beef or goat, all depends on where you’re from and preference. But those are definitely Birria tacos, not barbacoa at all.
@@yvonne3582 thats "Guadalajara barbacoa tacos", yeah pretty much birria tacos, but thats how we call them here, anywhere else thats not barbacoa...we know it.
I live in Guadalajara and I’ve never seen that orange sauce with a torta ahogada (the “H” is silent). Usually it’s a mild red sauce and a hotter sauce. they really didn’t drown it, it looked very dry. Also the secret is to use birote for the bread (usually only found around GDL). Many customers take it to go “para llevar”, which means that they stuff the torta in a clear plastic bag. People then mash it into a mush and eat it with a plastic spoon. Also, tacos dorados just means that the corn tortilla if fried golden brown. In the states what are “taquitos” are tacos dorados in Mexico, although the shape doesn’t really matter. Taquitos are just a name people sometimes use for small tacos.
@2 Wimpy I agree with you. That is not the authentic torta ahogada. That doesn't look like birote salado which is the classic birote. The food is based on Jalisco style food, but has been americanized somewhat. Not so authentic
