"Fear of missing out" (FOMO) is probably the term you're looking for those limited-time mounts, animations, costumes, outfits, etc.
I have made a lot of Crown Store faux pas. I bought Skyshards, Chests, Motifs, research scrolls, and bag inventory. Best quality of life upgrade is the banker and merchant. I didn't understand the inventory slots pets until this video, so I just bought all three of them.
They started to put in the info when you can get the styles in game - but only on their homepage in the monthly store preview artikle. In game it still does not say that you can earn 99% of the styles by simply playing. I agree, scummy behavior.
For a lot of these things, motifs, bag space upgrades, etc, if you _want_ to buy those for crowns, if you want to not grind? Sell that same amount of crowns to another player. You'll make more gold than say your bag space upgrade or almost any motif (with a very few acceptations) will cost.
@@CasualLamer it's generally trivial to get it unlocked. It's one help desk ticket on the website and as long as you're a player in good standing you get the feature unlocked in a few days.

Some of the customized actions are 'bad' to me, as they are of little differences from the defaulted one (a simple recolor), while some crown exclusive motifs can be 'good' to me (Khenarthi's Pride). For housing enthusiasts, houses and furniture packs are definitely something they look for, so you cannot simply suggest they are bad.

I've purchased bundles for one item that was crown only, and the rest of the bundle would have cost me a few tens of thousands of gold. It is, objectively, exploitative. Even if they want to have crown only items, those items should be available on their own for a lower price than that bulk pack. The amount of gold I spent on a crown seller to get a _goddamn toilet_ at the last jesters festival burned.

Don't worry I am too and many people are. Imo buying cosmetics is fair game, as long as they're not charging you ludicrous amounts of money for something you can very easily obtain in game
Part of the reason the store has in-game items for Crowns are for those who have ESO+ and can just use thier Crowns to grab items they don't want to farm. As with all games you have the choice to buy Crowns or not buy them.
You don't need to farm for these items. You can buy them from in game vendors for significantly less than the crown cost, even if you obtain the gold by selling crowns.
@drackar understood, however it's still your choice to buy or not buy Crowns. It could be worse, look at Wow for example you pay retail for the game, you pay retail for the expansions, you have to pay monthly to play above lvl 20 and then there are exclusive paid items in the game. Why they can get away with is because people willing pay, so why not take the money. It has allowed ESO to continue to release content for over 10yrs now and not just become abandoned like all other MMO's.
The biggest difference between buying houses with gold vs crowns is that with crowns it comes fully furnished. It does not with gold.

I didn't say they are per se bad, I said they're often obtainable in-game and everybody should check beforehand if it's a good purchase

u also nee to calrify the merchant is not really a merchant. it's a customer. they dont sell anythings and they do not repair ur gear.
