A quick video to introduce you guys to our newest lease-on Ray! As you guys can see he has such a awesome setup and we are super excited to have him on the team!
Thank God somebody had enough sense to put a CB radio in the truck all trucks should have a CB radio and it turned on I have been driving a tractor trailer 44 years I never go anywhere in my truck without AC be live in learn from this man truckers
If you are cdl hotshot you really need the sleeper. Cant say enough about Roadmaster. Buster is a great and puts out an excellent product. Have had mine for over a year and love everything about it. My wife and I sleep in it every night. We will sometimes be on the road 60 days straight. I would recommend quad cab. More room for a bigger fridge, etc and entry through rear doors much easier. But it is heavier. Of course, With that aux tank you are giving up 1000 lbs of cargo.
@@Kaatu-barada-nikto The Fords are a nice truck. You can buy a ford with a roadmaster sleeper from battleground ford in Virginia. I believe you can finance the purchase as well. For the Ram, theres a dealer in North Carolina that will sell you a ram with the sleeper. For cdl hotshot, a Ram 5500 or a Ford F550 is the way to go. Better for towing all around, and not much more money than a one ton. Love my 5500 Laramie! Registered at 43k, and we are close to that on most loads.
A FYI for your driver, instead of carrying a gas can if his generator is gas, most pilot/flying j has RV Fueling that should accommodate his setup with gas pumps on both sides of RV pump lanes.
"This one's not supposed to flex, but, we'll see." I know you've done some miles. Them damn things always flex lmao. That's one hell of a setup dude. Best of luck to you!
great video thank you for showing the setup. Question why a gas generator vs a diesel? Seems like with a diesel you could share the fuel and the tanks. PJ makes a really nice trailer and this is sure one of them.
*Question: With a driver choose to drive a semi if he has the option to do so, or is driving this professional hot shot actually better overall? I would be interested in knowing what his and your views are based on finances and other considerations.* Thanks. And very nice truck set up.
It’s easier to maneuver a hotshot rig it can and fit more place with relative ease. More respect on the road from 4wheelers. You will be targeted by the DOT because you will be easier to inspect than a semi.
The F600 has the carrying capacity as the F650 but in a Super Duty body...they were developed for the electric companies and/or contractors that carry their bucket beds but needed a smaller truck for tight places...I was going to order a 600 but it was going to take longer since their production was going to start on a later date due to COVID...
whats up JL! i need your advice i have a 2019 ram 5500 its setup with a 5th wheel and take3 5 car hauler im in the process of getting my cdl license do you think i should stick with the hauler or get rid of it and transport freight i guess my ? is can i make good money in hauling cars or freight?
Freight pays better than cars. BUT theres not alwsys freight on the board. There are ALWAYS cars. I can haul both, but i end up hauling a lot of trucks on my flatbed. You cant compete with a 9 car hauler for average size cars. They go for about 50 cents a mile. But trucks and vans go for much more. $2.00 a mile isnt unheard of. And No tarp!
Great setup but air ride is a great option. I would be worried more about an electric dove tail and hydraulic stands than air ride in regards to moving parts
The hydraulic piston can be unpinned...so you are still able to use the ramps without the worry looking for parts immediately...air ride, if you can’t air up the bags, you can’t move...just saying
The cheapest 2021 f550 I’ve found was 55k. Another 25k (guesstimate) on the trailer. The base model sleeper cab is 10,500. So minimum I’d guess just over 90k
I hotshotted with an F450 for a short while. If I were to do it again, I'd get a medium duty truck such as a Freightliner sportsmobile with probably a 13 speed. Pickups just don't hold up to the mileage. You're going to be getting single digit fuel economy also. That's a nice setup though don't get me wrong, but it'll never pay for itself in the long run. That truck will be worn out in about two years, and the resale value will be low. If you find 7 dollar frieght, not an issue. I loved LTL freight. If it paid the bills, I'd be back in a minute. Good luck out there.
@@BM-if9zn Actually, where a pickup shines is on the East Coast from my experience. The East Coast hates Class 8 trucks. A pickup and trailer doesn't scare the Karen class of people that live there as bad. I've even parked in residential areas and never had an issue. I've also have never been hassled by DOT in my pickup. This was a few years ago, maybe things have changed? I bailed before the ELD manadate. Twenty thousand miles a month is a lot for any pickup.
Only problem I see is the middle section in the front seat should have been left out. Would have made it easy to get in the sleeper with out having to open the door and slide the seat to access it. Other than that nice 550
We were not able to remove the center counsel because the people at Ford decided to put some components under the counsel...now that I have driven it for a couple of weeks...the plan is to remove the passenger seat for easy access🤔
Climbing over the console to get in the back is like climbing over the doghouse in the old cabovers. It can be done, just not very handy. I never like getting out of the truck at night to get in the back. Unfortunately in the old cabover trucks climbing over the doghouse was the only option. I'd sure hate to have to remove my passenger seat just to get in the back. My wife wouldn't appreciate sitting in the bunk when she goes with me. I suppose if you're always by yourself it's not as big a deal. Nice truck overall by the way. I'm sure you'll like it and make lots of money with it.
“ I didn’t get Air ride because I didn’t think I would need it“ 😂 you would actually need air ride before you would need some of that other stuff😂 just giving you a hard time all in good fun
Ford needs to go back to a manual transmission for these trucks. It would be a better fit than the auto. Or outsource the trans to Allison or Eaton/Fuller.
BEAUTIFUL SETUP... but....there's always a but....that truck will be down before 60k...should have done it with a 21 ram.....hate to be a downer but YOU need to be READY...
@@jlovetheflash5371 i posted another question before on another video. Question is what do you do if you break down with a load on, how do you get itto its destination
Great truck, hope it does everything you need ...but the trailer ramps, wow. Flipping two max ramps seems quicker and MUCH less maintance/things that will eventually break. I'm shocked this is an option...not really helpful
