========= Soldier Of Heaven LYRICS ==========
    I won’t be coming home
    I won’t be going anywhere
I will guard this post forever
Here on the alpine slope where I did my final stand I shall remain
Among the ice and snow that binds me to this mountain
A force of nature too strong, sent from above
Where spirits lead the way, the winds will never fade
    White Friday, I’ll take the
    Stairway to heaven
I’m sky high, when I die
    I’ll be immortal
    Forever, I never
    I won´t return to
    Blood Mountain, I am the
    Soldier of heaven
I saw the end of war
I watched the soldiers come and go
And I kept my watch forever
So many brave men fell in the battles that were raging down below
I have seen it all but none will hear my story
All of these years I have been frozen in time
I cried for spring to come but here, winter remain
I always dreamed that I would, serve high above
Where spirits lead the way, the winds will never fade
    ========= Historic Fact =============
High above in the alps close to heaven, in the most extreme circumstances, men fought and protected the borders during WWI. At 23:30 on April 17, 1916, the Italians, who were up against the Austro-Hungarian Empire, detonated 5,000kg of Nitro-Gelatine to secure the Col di Lana summit.

Some historical context: Aside from the Italian Alps front, this song is referencing 2 particular events. "White Friday" was a series of avalanches that caused the deaths of 10,000 soldiers from all sides when all was said and done. "Blood Mountain" was the nickname given to a multi-year long struggle for 1 mountain (Col di Lana) in which neither side had any clear winner. Its tragic that the front is not talked about as much as it should be considering how hard both sides fought in the region. Thank Sabaton for immortalizing and honoring those sacrifices in song.

All I know is that his final resting place is somewhere out in the finnish woods. I also know that he is still till this day guarding his post in those same woods. Rest in peace great grandfather Birger Nylund, in my heart you truly are the soldier of heaven. My hero! Salute!❤️🇫🇮👋

My great grandfather was a Hauptmann (equivalent of capitan) in the slovenian homeguard regiments of the austro-hungarian hungarian army. He was present in 10 of 12 battles of Isonzo. When he returned home he burned his uniforn, insignia and medal. The only story he shared was of a battle when italian troops were attacking up a ridge under them and they were shooting down on them them like they were rabbits (his words). When they ran out of ammunition they started hurling rocks and boulders towards them and managed to repel the attack. He told his wife that no matter how much he prays his ticket to hell is already booked. Italian lads had the "luxury" of going directly to hell but he had to live with what he saw and did for another 50 years. In his words: i cannot find a valid reason what was the point of it. My generation did what we did, noone of us is proud of it. Your generation must realize what to do of it. The least you can do is trust us to never do it again...
If u cant already tell im hyped for this one. Just the fact that Isonzo or Soča is less than 40km from my home

Many Sabaton songs are in fact anti-war songs. After listening to this one (on iTunes) I have the same futile feeling as is seeping from may Sabaton songs. But it's one hell of a song, pretty catchy with cool lyrics!

Greetings from Italy, my friend. Even if we were enemies once, I hope that your great grandfather found peace and forgiveness, since it appears he was so tormented for all he had to do. War is hell, and may that ticket he mentioned be reserved for the warmongers and criminals that truly deserved it, no matter which flag they fought under. Riposa in pace.

As the great-grandson of Tyrolean Kaiserjäger this means so much to me. Plus, the fact that it was published on the day of the "Drei Könige / Befana" is particularly special. In Tyrol we speak 4 main languages, and my family has been divided on both sides of the Alps, so the message of peace is always so very important, whether you swear allegiance to the Empire or to the Republic. Man, I wish your songs didn't make me sad 90% of the time. Such a bop, but so sad...
"I will guard this post forever" is such a powerful line. It reminds me of the last verse in a Vazov poem, called "The new cemetery over Slivnitsa" about a decrepit and abandoned military cemetery he visited.
" Rest here, under these tombs of ice
You won't hear again a clarion or a chief
Or the thunders of your glorious fights.
Your final march is towards eternity - Heroes, rest in peace"
The entire poem is very beautiful and my translation would, obviously, not do it justice, but it's exactly what this song reminds me of: People who just died and were forgotten - only their mothers felt their absence and remembered their names. it's just ridiculously sad.
I also love how the WW1 planes in the video transition into WW2 planes.

    I won't be coming home
    I won't be going anywhere
I will guard this post forever
Here on the alpine slope, where I did my final stand I shall remain
Among the ice and snow that binds me to this mountain
A force of nature too strong, sent from above
Where spirits lead the way, the winds will never fade
    White Friday, I'll take the
    Stairway to heaven
I'm sky high, when I die
    I'll be immortal
    Forever, I never
    I won't return to
    Blood mountain, I am the
    Soldier of heaven
I saw the end of war
I watched the soldiers come and go
And I kept my watch forever
So many brave men fell in the battles that were raging down below
I have seen it all but none will hear my story
All of these years I have been frozen in time
I cried for spring to come but here, winter remain
    White Friday, I'll take the
    Stairway to heaven
I'm sky high, when I die
    I'll be immortal
    Forever, I never
    I won't return to
    Blood mountain, I am the
    Soldier of heaven
I always dreamed that I would, serve high above
Where spirits lead the way, the winds will never fade
    White Friday, I'll take the
    Stairway to heaven
I'm sky high, when I die
    I'll be immortal

A mountain where nobody will ever live, where no resources can be extracted, where no value can be found outside of a slightly more advantageous position and moving a line on a political map. And when the Italians finally win on one mountain, thinking finally they can move on from this hell, they realize there are more mountains the Austro-Hungarians have dug into.

Plato's philosophy about war is probably right on, but also gloomy. So, keeping Plato in mind, I'll also keep Thomas Paine in mind, with the quote from his 1776 pamphlet Common Sense. Get rid of kings, stop seeking "leaders," and we can enjoy peace, with peaceful transition of public servants the goal. "In the early ages of the world, according to the scripture chronology, there were no kings; the consequence of which was there were no wars; it is the pride of kings which throws mankind into confusion." ― Thomas Paine, Common Sense

Fun fact: At 2:38 you start seeing WW2 era german planes. At first this might seem as an anachronism however it is done so to show the fact that the soldiers that died on White Friday were witnsesses to two world wars and still kept their posts...
EDIT: This was not obvious to me at first but I read it from a user called Bite Me on another video from Vlogging Through History.

I’ve never listened to Sabaton before. But from what I’ve gathered so far, the leader singer has the energy of Freddy mercury, the closest physical appearance of chuck lidell, and the vocal strength of Ivan moody from 5FDP, and it’s honestly a pretty great mixup. I’m quite intrigued by this songs energy.

The fact that the latter half of the video has BF109's is a neat touch. It might not make sense at first since White Friday happened during WWI. Seeing a WWII airplane implies their body is still frozen there many years later, as a new World War rages on.

One real cool detail is how the ww2 era planes fly by, signalling the world moving on and time passing, but his body stays the same. I think it’s because in WW1 when soldiers died in the alps their bodies would stay frozen and preserved, and some almost untouched Austro Hungarians and Italians are still being found today.
