And the coolest way to tell the story of how a massively outnumbered Amount of Swiss Guards chose to give both their sword blades and lives up to protect and guarantee his Holiness's escape, that is what I call a true story of sacrifice ⚔️✝️
*The last stand - LYRICS* In the heart of Holy See In the home of Christianity The Seat of power is in danger There´s a foe of a thousand swords They´ve been abandoned by their lords Their fall from grace will pave their path, to damnation Then the 189 In the service of heaven They’re protecting the holy line It was 1527, gave their lives on the steps to heaven Thy will be done! For the grace, for the might of our lord For the home of the holy For the faith, for the way of the sword Gave their lives so boldly For the grace, for the might of our lord In the name of his glory For the faith, for the way of the sword Come and tell their story again Under guard of 42 Along a secret avenue Castel Saint’Angelo is waiting They’re the guard of the Holy See They’re the guards of Christianity Their path to history is paved with salvation Then the 189 In the service of heaven They’re protecting the holy line It was 1527, gave their lives on the steps to heaven Thy will be done! For the grace, for the might of our lord For the home of the holy For the faith, for the way of the sword Gave their lives so boldly For the grace, for the might of our lord In the name of his glory For the faith, for the way of the sword Come and tell their story again Dying for salvation with dedication No Capitulation, annihilation Papal commendation, reincarnation Heaven is your destination Dying for salvation with dedication No Capitulation, annihilation Papal commendation, reincarnation Heaven is your destination In the name of god For the grace, for the might of our lord For the home of the holy For the faith, for the way of the sword Gave their lives so boldly For the grace, for the might of our lord In the name of his glory For the faith, for the way of the sword Come and tell their story Gave their lives so boldly Come and tell the Swiss guards story again *Historic fact of the song* The story of the 189 brave soldiers in the Swiss guard during the sacking of Rome in 1527. Since Charles V, ruler of the holy roman empire couldn’t pay his troops they mutinied and forced their commander to lead them towards Rome where plunder was plentiful. When the invading force entered the vatican pope Clement VII escaped to Castel Sant’Angelo via passetto di Borgo. The few remaining guardsmen gave their lives on the steps to St. Peters Basilica.
Fun fact, the german soldiers were called "Lanzichenecchi", from the italian word "Lancia", which means spear, because of the very long spear they carried. Those soldiers werent imperial soldiers, but mercenaries, and thats why they mutinied. On the other hand, even the Swiss Guard was made out of swiss mercenaries, but instead of surrending while being outnumbered, they decided to gave their life for the Pope.

Ok I did some research on "The Stand of the Swiss Guard" as its called. It is true that they swear in new recruits on that day, May 6, to honor those who died. However, you dont get people excited about joining your group by telling them all about the ultimate sacrifice they might have to make. You dont shy from it, but dont lead the conversation with "you might die like these guys did". However, this song is inspiring, emotional and a good tribute to the brave men who gave their last to protect that which they held most important.

Sabaton is more than a band, it's history.
And the coolest way to tell the story of how a massively outnumbered Amount of Swiss Guards chose to give both their sword blades and lives up to protect and guarantee his Holiness's escape, that is what I call a true story of sacrifice ⚔️✝️
We're all history and the future, that's the beauty of it
*The last stand - LYRICS*
In the heart of Holy See
In the home of Christianity
The Seat of power is in danger
There´s a foe of a thousand swords
They´ve been abandoned by their lords
Their fall from grace will pave their path, to damnation
Then the 189
In the service of heaven
They’re protecting the holy line
It was 1527, gave their lives on the steps to heaven
Thy will be done!
For the grace, for the might of our lord
For the home of the holy
For the faith, for the way of the sword
Gave their lives so boldly
For the grace, for the might of our lord
In the name of his glory
For the faith, for the way of the sword
Come and tell their story again
Under guard of 42
Along a secret avenue
Castel Saint’Angelo is waiting
They’re the guard of the Holy See
They’re the guards of Christianity
Their path to history is paved with salvation
Then the 189
In the service of heaven
They’re protecting the holy line
It was 1527, gave their lives on the steps to heaven
Thy will be done!
For the grace, for the might of our lord
For the home of the holy
For the faith, for the way of the sword
Gave their lives so boldly
For the grace, for the might of our lord
In the name of his glory
For the faith, for the way of the sword
Come and tell their story again
Dying for salvation with dedication
No Capitulation, annihilation
Papal commendation, reincarnation
Heaven is your destination
Dying for salvation with dedication
No Capitulation, annihilation
Papal commendation, reincarnation
Heaven is your destination
In the name of god
For the grace, for the might of our lord
For the home of the holy
For the faith, for the way of the sword
Gave their lives so boldly
For the grace, for the might of our lord
In the name of his glory
For the faith, for the way of the sword
Come and tell their story
Gave their lives so boldly
Come and tell the Swiss guards story again
*Historic fact of the song*
The story of the 189 brave soldiers in the Swiss guard during the sacking of Rome in 1527.
If you just click read more in the description...
wew, you just got trolled epic style@@midknightranger71
